We've gone here several time and it used to be very good but both the food and service have declined. I got mussels and they were tasteless. My wife got tortellini with pesta sauce with chicken added. The pe to was congealed and the little chicken that there was (paid extra for it ) was burnt. Sent it back and waitress asked if she wanted it re made. She said no because of the way the sauce was. Asked for a plain chicken cultet grinder, no sauce, cheese or anything. Waited forever and the grinder came out with lettuce, tomato and mayo. She told the waitress "I said plain" but she didn't care. My wife didn't end up eating it and told the waitress that she wasn't paying for it. Waitress offered to get something else but we just wanted to get out of there as we had been there for 3 hours. Stopped on the way home to get something for my wife to eat. We won't be going back any time soon. read more

Vito's offers large portion for their pasta dishes, decent pizza and awesome deep dish pizza. The regular pizza I would only rank as average but the deep dish choices are what makes Vito's awesome. Extremely filling a small deep dish will easily serve 4 people. read more

I haven't had this place in over 10 yrs and I'm obsessed with Chicago style pizza. For the past few months I've been driving 30 minutes for UNOs and last night it was getting close to closing and I really wanted a deep dish. Let's get this straight: I LOVED VITO'S. My love affair has slowly soured over the past few years since the owner's daughter has taken over running the business. The final straw was last Friday, when I ordered a large red pie with spinach and mozzarella (usually add sausage, but it's Lent)... we were REALLY looking forward to a delicious pizza. What I received was an overcooked, dry disc with a very small amount of sauce and spinach... for all purposes inedible. There was no time to go all the way back across the bridge into Wethersfield (had to make a special trip) , so we had to buy another pizza at Luna's in Glastonbury. Vito's needs to tune things up, and I WILL GLADLY RETURN AND DELETE THIS REVIEW! FYI the pick-up entrance in the rear of the store gives waiting customers a thrilling look at the dishwashers scraping and spraying off dirty dishes... a real appetite-killer. read more

Recently bought a GroupOn that required me to eat on premises and thought I would update with thoughts on dining at Vito's: My son and I split a pie on this trip while my wife got linguine in clam sauce. Will say that my comments on the pizza still hold...Not as thin as some, but a very enjoyable pizza in its own right. I think I like it even more every time I get a pie. My wife's platter came with the clams in the shells, so you know the seafood is fresh...I didn't sample any, but my wife was very happy and large enough platter for leftovers that were promptly eaten the next day... We came on a Friday night and were greeted with a person playing easy listening tunes on a keyboard. Very pleasant, but glad that we were seated at the opposite end of the restaurant where the volume was more manageable. Decent crowd for a Friday night, but crowd is older and mostly family focused. You're not coming here for a raucous good time...Just to enjoy a low key Italian meal. Service was...OK?...It was slow for sure and our waitress started off with this attitude that said told me she really didn't want to be there. She perked up towards the end though...Décor feels like late 80's / early 90's...Wife and I agreed it could use a refresh. I can't recommend eating-in at Vito's in Wethersfield, but certainly will re-emphasize the quality of the food and keep it on my take-out list. read more

Ok everyone buckle up. I'm taking you on a roller coaster of an experience filled with some gut wrenching lows and some unbelievable highs. In defense of the restaurant this was Valentines Day at 6pm. Food: The complimentary bread was awesome it comes with rolls, a garlic bread topped with carmelized onions and little packages of butter. If I go again I will definitely get a side of garlic bread I'm sure its fantastic. We got the lobster ravioli as an app that comes with a vodka sauce, sun dried tomatoes, and topped with fresh asparagus. When our waitress brought it to the table I was assailed with a pungent smell that isn't pleasant when associated with food. It tasted like something terribly wrong happened to the sauce. Both my wife and I gingerly ate a very small bite, which I'm thankful for because that was in the top worst 3 bites of my life (right behind swigging sour OJ). I'm about 90% sure the ravioli is frozen so right out of the gate it can't be above pedestrian. I hope something was terribly wrong with my order, because I would hate to think that was the standard. We got a small meat chicago style deep dish stuffed pizza. Polar opposite from the appetizer, buttery crust, huge chunks of sausage, meatball pepperoni stuffed in the pizza with the bacon added to the top of the pizza along with the cheese. Very filling I had 2.5 pieces and was pretty stuffed. It also heats up well the next day in the oven.For dessert we got their special which was a chocolate mousse, also very good the chocolate was creamy and rich with a nice crust (perfect crust to filling ratio I hate when that is screwed up). Waitstaff/Ambiance: This is where the place failed miserably. So when we arrived we were seated at a 2 person hightop table that was butted up against 2 other tables. No worries we were the only ones there and choose the one farther into the restaurant. The table was super off balance and anything over 5lbs of pressure would have the entire table tottering like a seesaw. So we moved over to the middle table. While we were still waiting for our food another couple arrived so we moved once again this time to the table that was right by the hostess station. On one side of the table you have the hostess station and on the other side their was an empty keyboard about 2 feet from where I was sitting. Well wouldn't you know this is the night that they have their keyboardist play so I could've given the guy a pretty sweet scalp massage without leaving my seat (surprisingly the music wasn't too loud even though right next to us so that was nice). Once our waitress did finally arrive we could tell she was pretty frazzled because she got into a slight altercation with another worker about who had what tables. Upon taking out order I tried to add mushrooms to our pizza but she said that wasn't allowed (I called the next day it is allowed), so normally I would have asked why but I could tell this wasn't a night where she would be receptive to questions so I held my tongue. Looking around the restaurant I noticed everyone had bread at their table so I asked the host if it was complimentary and if so I would like some.. well it was and it was awesome. She failed epically at keeping our drinks filled (we rationed our beverages as if we were in the desert so luckily we made it through the meal). Not at the fault of our waitress but our app arrived 2 minutes prior to our pizza. This wasn't much of an inconvenience since we returned the app as soon as we tried it, but still less than desirable. I also had to ask for my leftover box of pizza after she'd disappeared ~15 min ago to box it up for us, I assumed when I asked they'd thrown it away considering the time. I did go to the bathroom and like most people I judge the cleanliness of the restaurant off of the bathroom. The vent fan in the bathroom was so caked with dust I could barely make out the outline of the grill (pretty gross), this certainly makes me question the cleanliness of the place (I should really stop watching Kitchen Nightmares it makes everyone think they know what the hell they're talking about). Bottom Line: Pretty solid food and fair prices with the exception of the appetizer that belonged on Fear Factor. If I did go back it would be during the day or on a weeknight, because they were pretty slammed so I'm sure I would have had a more positive experience in that regard. I would go back for the pizza if I was in the area, but not so amazing I'm going to drive 35 minutes for the food alone. If in the area give it a try and know you can add additional toppings to their Chicago deep dish. read more

I only really come to Vito's for their spinach pizza, lots of spinach a little cheese, garlic on a white pizza I add pepperoni it is soooo good! yum! Have tried spinach pizzas at a number of places and this is still the best. read more

Went their a few weeks back. Got seated by the greater. That was about it!! 10 min later two couples walked in after us. We told ourselves If they get a waitress before us where leavening. That was exactly what happened. They ask why we were leaving and we told them that we never got a waitress and we came in before the other couple. All we got was I'm sorry for that waitress and the greeter folding napkins with silverware in the middle of the restaurant. No I'm sorry can we get you a drink on the house or an app to make up for it. We will never go their again. As a manager of a very fast pace business that would never fly. You don't want customers to leave you want them to stay even if something happens like what happened with our visit. If I was told to stay with and apology and some kind of fix to the poor service as a drink or an app. I would if stayed and payed triple what that drink or app cost. I was going their because I remembered the good food and staff the worked at Vito's from a few years back going their for lunch ALOT because my past gf worked right next door at a law office. read more

I am a big fan of the Vito's restaurant but they are on a slide down. Owner (lady that read Avon magazine at the bar...she seems new) is rude. I had Lasagna and portion is not what is used to be. I visited here frequently over MANY years when I lived in Old Wethersfield and since. Take out pizza has held up over time, better than average pies. The restaurant continues to decline. On a quiet night, the hostess had a major attitude on when we requested a table other than her recommendation. Menus were old, torn and dirty. No specials. Waiter was above average. Bathrooms dirty. Mexican music seemed out of place in an Italian style venue. Oh, the food? Average , boring. Not what it has been in recent years. Several visits in the past year. Business seems to be off given the number of open tables. Bummer. In years past dining at Vito's during family gatherings was part of being home. I came here this weekend for the first time in over ten years to see if the food is still good or not, it turns out it is not as good as I thought it would be. I had the chicken parmesan dinner, the chicken and pasta were ok but the sauce looked and tasted like it was out of a jar or can and not a homemade one. I guess the owner did that in order to save some money. My friend I was with that night ordered the same dish I had and he was not very pleased with it either. For the prices they charge the food should be of better quality. I did notice that they still have a piano player like they did when the original owners owned the restaurant. I was there on a Friday night around 7PM and the place was dead and most of the tables were empty, it was not like that the last time I went here. We came here today and had the buffet. It was great -- pizza, stromboli, mussels, chicken with artichokes, eggplant parmesan, salad and cookies -- all for $11.00. Service was very friendly. We're still lingering at the table and no one is rushing us out. We'll definitely come back. read more

We really wanted to like this place it was suggested by 2 friends. We were between shifts so the service was not spot on. Also, we ordered grinders although they looked ok they tasted burnt we order 2 different grinders so not sure what happened. Won't be back. And their pizzas are super expensive. read more

Just in town visiting again, and brought 6 other people. Pleasantly served in a timely manner. Pizza was good, The garlic bread is a bit expensive for a large basket and the mozzarella sticks were very greasy. I'm not sure what happened there. But, other than that, everything was good. Returned again 2 days later as a good-bye meal, and that was delicious! No appetizers order that time. I didn't realize the keyboard guy was coming in. Hadn't been here in years but met a friend for lunch and was reminded why I used to like this place. The food is awesome! We had a nice waitress that gave us space as we had so much catching up to do. We settled in with our lunch and ended up ordering meals to go for our families for dinner. My family has been regularly visiting this restaurant for at least a decade. The waiters are nice, food comes out within a reasonable time and the food is a good value for what you get. Normally we order pizzas, which are quite good. They offer many toppings and are happy to do different toppings on each side of the pizza. the only bad thing is that I wish their pizzas had less oil. Normally everyone in my picky family can find something that they want to eat. Prices are reasonable and setting is intimate. read more

Awesome food and service by Janice Friday night. Janice is an experienced, mature servicer that made us feel comfortable the moment she came to the table. We shared the stuffed pasta shells for an appetizer, wow, so very good. I ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Romano, OMG, wow! Plentiful portion, with at least 5 sea scallops, and 6 shrimp! Veal Parmigiana was good, but the ziti was room temperature, as though it had been run under hot water to reheat? Wait staff was yelling back and forth to each other, felt like I was at a High School football game. House dressing was oil for dipping, or so it seemed. Canoli was ONLY filled on either end, 2 inches of the middle - no ricotta!. Coffee not great, had to ask 2 times for cream for our coffee. This restaurant was a delightful end to our week in your area! Fresh ingredients prepared with sensitivity and intuition made for a great meal. The specials tonight were unlike the ordinary Italian food one encounters everywhere and were reasonably priced. Staff and management left an impression of folks who really care to look after their customers. Excellent pizza, tasty sauce and crust. Not typical thin east-coast pizza, but quite good. They advertise a Chicago-style pizza. As a former resident of Chicago, I can state this this is certainly not Chicago style; I'd recommend their regular pizza. The new updates look great and the food and service are excellent. A good selection of wines, local/foreign beers on tap, martinis(mango is my favorite)and much more. My favorite dish is chicken Francois and best pizza is barbecue chicken with bacon and onions. The bolognese sauce is delicious if you are looking for great pasta. Food is very authentic. We have never had a bad tasting meal there.However on my last two visits, the amount of pasta has been reduced to the amount you would get as a side dish. When you are just ordering a pasta dish it becomes way to pricey. read more

Great experience. Five of us arrived at 9pm on a Thursday. We had a great meal and were not ever made to feel like we were being rushed even though we stayed a bit past closing time (10pm). Service and food were fantastic. Watch out - our waitress was a bit crafty and talked us into dessert and coffee! Not complaining though because that was excellent too. We eat at Vito's in Wethersfield on a weekly basis. The folks that are posting negative stuff out there need to wake up. This place is a standard in our book. The food and service at A+. I have to agree with one of the other yelpers- "If this was CA, it would be the best pizza ever". It is true. Good luck finding good italian food in souther ca.
