We ordered a medium sausage and mushroom pizza. The pizza was nicely done. The crust was crusty and soft inside, there was plenty of sausage and fresh mushrooms on the pizza. Not fancy, but who wants fancy, anyway? My son loves their penne alla vodka, and I have to agree, it's great. Pizza is good too; even my Italian grandmother liked it (it's Greek pizza so our hopes were not high!). Staff is very friendly. However, they are still using styrofoam to pack takeout, which is pretty gross. Eat in, and bring your own container for leftovers. read more

One thing I actually do miss about Connecticut is the calzones. The calzones here are just a little different, and by different, I mean way better. I stopped at Sax's Pizza on Sunday night after calling ahead to place my order of a calzone with mozzarella cheese, sausage, and of course the meatballs. When I finally got home and dug in, I got the exact calzone that I was craving for the past year. It was meaty, the crust was perfect, and the pizza sauce on top was the final touch needed to make the perfect calzone. Maybe this place isn't worth 4-5 stars to most people, but to me? Are they the best? No. Are they the worst? Also no. But I live really close and their pizza is pretty good and reasonably priced so they're good in a pinch. Service is so-so. Most of the staff is friendly but I ran into one woman who was literally whining about how much time she had left on her shift. I always order my pizza with light cheese and it's usually a luck of the draw if they actually get that right. Regardless, I'm willing to look past all that as long as they stay relatively consistent. I'd be interested in trying some of their pasta dinners done day as well. read more

my wife and i ordered a large and a medium pizza from sax's and the sauce was not all that great at all. when she ordered my large pizza she told the person that she wanted extra he called it meatball and it supposed to called hamburger. the sauce gave me such an upset stomach that i had to have saltines and milk to help settle my stomach big time. i remember at one time when the sauce was really good, i am not sure what happened. but on thing i do know is that i am not going to ever order a pizza from them ever again. and when he cut my pizza instead of cutting into pie shape it was cut into square shape. any other place that i have gone to to order pizza it has been cut into pie shape. when you go to this place, be real carefull as to what andd how you order your food read more

I used to go here a lot. Basic pizza shop, I mainly just had the pizza. There are a lot of pizza ace in the area and this is the only one I would eat at. That was until I pulled in today and they have a sign stating you have to wear a mask. Since I got vaccinated months ago I don't even keep a mask in the car any more. This review is only for their "cheesesteak". I have been going here since I was a kid and they used to offer free hot and sweet peppers to go with your meal. Anyways......I've only ever gotten the cheesesteak with the house made chili. The chili is basically just a simple meat sauce, but they load it on the bottom of the crispy oven toasted roll. Had a very great first experience here service was amazing fast, super nice, courteous. Food was amazing we got garlic bread with cheese which came with a dipping sauce that was absolutely delish. Then got the four cheese pizza which was absolutely amazing. Definite great experience. An added bonus, it was across the street from the GE charging stations which are free so we charged our electric car while we ate. All in all very great restaurant and will be back! read more

This is our go-to pizza joint. Kids love the pies, wife and I love the salads. Baklava is awesome. A bunch of years ago we had a bad storm and lost power for a week, rare for this area. Sax was one of the few places open. They had no power but the oven was still working. They made some pies for my family and told me to come back to pay, as I had no cash and card reader wasn't working. Only one thing I ever get here and this item rocks. Steak and cheese with onions. I have had this grinder in many places but they do it best. Steak melts in your mouth, right amount of cheese and the onions are cut small enough so they actually soften when it is mixed into the meat and cooked on the flat-top. My husband almost ALWAYS says "Sax Steak Sandwich" when I ask him what kind of take-out he wants on a Friday night. He doesn't even mind going to get them since they don't deliver (which would make the review 5 star...LOL) so with this ONE item, you can't go wrong. Went here last week to eat. Not impressed at all. If it wasn't that food I had wasn't good, this place would get 1 star. I had the fried clams and they were pretty good. Everything else this place has issues. For one the place is about as dated as it gets. Lamps my mom had in her kitchen in 1973. Waitress had this smug personality. I order my food and I'm not a fan of Cole slaw. I said extra fries... We don't do substitutions.. What?? And charge for refills on drinks. Get with the times. I get its one of those old school been around for years establishments. But nothing memorable except that crappy service this place has does it for me. Is this an artsy approach or did they run out and have to improvise? Daughter's lasagna burnt and lacking flavor, husband's steak and cheese quite unthrilling. Asked for veggies for the grinder on the side, they came out lukewarm and gross looking. Waitress OK, a bit pressing on "which number is it on the menu" and correcting the way we were ordering, as she did to other guests ordering in the vicinity of our table. One of those family owned businesses that have been around forever. Owner and waitress very friendly consistently every time we have come here. They know some of their customers by name. Smallish place, clean and comfortable. Ample menu to choose from-standard fare of a greek restaurant-food is tasty. Great baklava, eggplant parmesan and fresh, crisp salad.
