    "cheese burger grinder"
    Steve G.

2/26/21 - We've been ordering from Village Pizza off and on for years. But today was the last time. We're done. The quality of the food has declined even more sharply than the prices have increased. Today was the last straw, no more chances. We ordered a pizza and two grinders: a (half) tuna, hot, and a (whole) cheeseburger. The tuna was cold. Hey, mistakes can happen, but this is a recurring theme. The Cheeseburger grinder "is served with cheese, lettuce, and tomato" according to the menu. Mine was ordered with Provolone cheese as the cheese option. The grinder was delivered with what looks like maybe a single, grey-ish patty (obviously from frozen) that had been spread out to try and cover the length of the whole grinder, a small amount of Provolone that had melted away..... and nothing else on it...at all... nothing (see photo... how appetizing, what value!). For this "cheeseburger grinder" Village Pizza charged me $10.99. If they would have bothered to put the toppings on it, they probably could have hidden the sparse amount of anemic burger to a degree, but I guess that was too much to ask. This "cheeseburger grinder" illustrates exactly how much they care about their food, and how much they care about the customer paying for it.

Pizza pasta and salads There are bezillions of small pizza joints in Plainville and this one block must have at least a half dozen. Some are good, some not some good, but I guess it ultimately depends on the individual tastes of the person eating the pizza. Village Pizza is a small and kind of dumpy looking place from the outside. Certainly nothing about the building that is impressive or interesting but the inside is clean and nice enough, if somewhat spartan. The folks working there were efficient and pleasant if not exactly friendly. You get your pizza, pay and leave type of place. I suspect the vast majority of their business is take out. The menu is fairly large with lots of pizzas, pasta thingies, wings and salads. Nothing that really surprises you, pretty much what you would expect from a place like this. The veggie pizzas we ordered were quite good, not greasy and with lots of fresh veggies. Every sentient being in the universe probably has their own idea of what the perfect pizza is and and the very idea of the perfect pizza is probably an abstract idea that isn't obtainable in this reality. However if not perfect, everyone enjoyed the veggie pizzas and there were no complaints. Yes indeedy, there are a lot of pizza joints in this area and Village Pizza Restaurant is just one of the many. Certainly not perfect but it was good pizza, quick service at a good price. Not perfect but certainly good enough.

Every once in a while it's nice to have a pizza that isn't Greek style. Pizza tastes good.

This is the burnt calamari that they reheated with microwave.

After reading the great reviews about this place my wife and I had to try it for our "Hot Dog…read moreTuesday" lunch. I don't give out 5 stars easily. This little unassuming place deserves every one of them! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly man at the counter who seated us and brought menus. He turned out to be very helpful finding out this was our first time here. The store was well lit and clean. The tables were well spaced and not crowded in. My wife stuck to our tradition and ordered the RT 10 Dog with the spicy relish on the side. (Which was great for me) I couldn't resist The Hungry Bull burger. We'll just have to come back again for me to try their hotdogs. The 10' hot dog is a Martin Rosol's so the foundation of this hot dog is super strong. The sauerkraut was tasty and full flavored and just the right amount of mustard. My wife tried the spicy relish, that our server cheerfully supplied on the side, and it was a little too hot for her liking. Bonus for me. I got to put it on my burger. My burger came out stacked on a sturdy Brioche Roll with American cheese, onion straws and some very tasty horseradish crema. My burger was juicy and full of flavor. The onion straws brought the right amount of crunch. Halfway through I began to add in the spicy relish. Amazing. We got fries and onion rings and shared. The fries were big, crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Just the way I like them. The onion rings were amazing. I like when you bite into an onion ring and the whole onion doesn't come sliding out. These were perfect. Very good crunch and flavor. We have already decided that we will be back. I can't wait to try the hot dogs and the chicken sandwiches that were also calling my name.

I had a meatball sub, and my goodness, it was the best I've had in years; a perfect balance of sauce so that the meatballs didn't get overwhelmed. My husband had a chili dog and was gobsmacked at how they managed to elevate a seemingly straightforward dish. They used toasted bread, and the chili was the perfect amount. My son got one of their burgers and absolutely devoured it. Finally, their fries and onion rings are some of the best I've had in a while. I'm bummed that we are only in CT to visit family once a year, because this would definitely be added to our regular treat rotation.

The reviews did not even begin to do the food justice. We ordered stuffed shells, eggplant parmesan, and spinach and mozzarella, pepperoni, and, eggplant parmesan strombolies. The stuff shells, and eggplant parmesan were out of this world. The strombolies were filled from end to end. As for the prices they were exceptionally fair!! They also made it very easy to place the order and help with the servings. More than enough food for dinner and take home. I know that my family will be having next Christmas catered again from Tommy's Place! We are looking forward to trying the rest of the menu options, which there are many, very soom soon. The small restaurant was like a deli with several tables inside and a lovely outdoor patio that really elevated its overall atmosphere. We placed our order at the inside counter and grabbed a table outside. Throughout our visit, we experienced extremely pleasant and gracious service from Fina and a young man, both of whom were cooking and delivering the food. Though this caused things to move on the slower side, they really had their system down to a science, managing our meals and the several takeout orders that I saw being collected. The lunch menu had various salads, sandwiches, and burgers on offer. I selected the Chicken Gyro, which used a real grilled chicken breast that had been sliced, rather than those pre-cut strips that always seem to contain fillers. The chicken was a tad dry, but the homemade tzatziki sauce, which was heavily infused with dill, helped to add moisture to the sandwich. I had opted for a whole wheat wrap, rather than a pita, and I loved that they had lightly toasted the completed dish, even with its inclusion of romaine lettuce and diced tomatoes. That method gave the wrap an improved texture and a slight crunch. I sampled a few of my companion's fries, which were thin, crispy, and had a real rustic flavor that resembled potato skins. They were great! Fina's Kitchen was a real gem, hidden among an industrial area and catering to the local businesses. It was a great find!
