Big, mean, sloppy sammiches. * Also pasta, but sammiches are the most popular. * Meatball sammich, lots of Philly variants, Reuben. * CASH (or check) ONLY * Honor system payment; no cash register * One man show, this guy rocks it out Let me add a little flesh to those bones by saying this is like the lovechild of a food truck and a restaurant. You get all the small staff wonder of a truck, and the sketchy payment scene, the thing where you grab your own cup and your own chips, and they call out your order when it's done. But you also get the nice space, the tables to sit down (both indoor and outdoor seating), the facilities to fill your cup at the fountain, and you don't have to chase the thing down all the time. As for the food, I'm a fan. I got a mushroom Philly that had what can only be described as a boat load of mushrooms on top of a nice bun, melted cheese, and some peppers. I was tempted by the sausage sandwich, too, and there are a ton of Philly sandwiches there to keep you coming back. I've seen photos of the garlic cheesesteak with a bajillion cloves of roasted garlic on it. I also wanna give respect for having Barq's Red Cream Soda on the fountain. Who else has that? I mean, really. I love that stuff. Someone asked me how it tasted once, and the best answer I can give is that it tastes like red. Also, don't forget to pump a bunch of jalapeno sauce on your sub. Contrary to what the name suggests, there's zero spice level in it, but it definitely jazzes up your sandwich. Most of the sandwiches are around $8 for a 7" version. That gets you chips and a drink. It's worth it for the show, the excellent food notwithstanding. You get this one dude, with a full kitchen, who must prep a boat load of stuff before service starts, so he can grill, scoop, slather, and serve up his stuff super quick. What happens when he goes out of town? What happens when he's sick? I dunno... surely he has a staff. I love what's going on up here at Vito's. I wish I didn't live so far away, but it give me a good reason to come back and visit again. So many sandwiches to try. read more

It seems that I write reviews of the places that I really like. I have a lot of 4 stars and a few 5 stars, and this place belongs with the other 5's. I love cheesesteaks, LOVE THEM...and fortunately, we have some pretty good spots here in SLC where you can find really good ones. Vito's came highly recommended from a buddy of mine...he even muttered under his breath that "It's better than Moochies." "Borderline Blasphemy" I told him...but for him (who knows good food) to say that, I had to try it. First item: Place is CASH ONLY (You pay on the honor system, so don't be a putz) There is also an ATM if you need it. The place is super casual, clean and welcoming, and "Vito" himself was really cool and personable. It was crazy to see that he is the only cook, and cooks with lightning speed. I ordered the Italian Sausage Sandwich (Colosimo's Sausage - very nice) topped with grilled peppers and onions with melted provolone and gave half to my friend who went with me. HE got the Mushroom Philly - topped with an insane amount of mushrooms, onions and peppers. (Make sure to cover your sandwich in Vito's own Jalapeño Sauce...it is awesome. The portions are huge, and Vito DOES NOT skimp on the toppings. There is plenty of indoor seating and a nice couple spots outside right on Main St. to dine-out if you wish. So yes, I am giving Vito's 5 stars because I went in with HUGE expectations and had them not only met, but exceeded. I'm for sure going to go back as there are a lot of things on that menu that I am going to need to try. If you like a cheesesteak and haven't tried Vito's yet, you are really missing out. read more

This place is only open Monday-Friday 11-2pm or when they sell out. Which today some items were gone just before 1pm and all sold out by 1:30pm. Everything is made fresh that day. Be prepared for a line, moved quickly but he made it there as you ordered it. Cash only. Crazy system where you take care of paging and putting the money in containers. Really nice owner! I was really wanting to try the sausage sandwich and they were all out. So I opted for a jalapeño philly, which was delicious. Not the most amazing sandwich I ever had but it's up there. The bread was perfect. My sandwich got a little soggy pretty quickly, I wish it was toasted just a little so it won't. Very generous with the jalapeños on it. The red onion and pepper blend was delicious, and a decent amount of meat on it. Not too bad of price considering it does come with chips and a drink (7inch) for $9. A little pricy for a one man show. He does have 1-2 people helping restock chips and such. Personally I don't eat the chips and I don't get a drink, wish it was an option to not make it a meal. I tried the jalapeño sauce, it was fairly good. Too hard to get any out of the pump, but I liked what I had. If I was in the area I would definitely come back. read more

Now this is a proper Philly Cheesesteak. Good quality meats, and bunches of it. Plentiful toppings (I counted 16 whole cloves of garlic on my Garlic Philly!) (pic). And a roll that is perfect in texture and taste. There are several kinds of Philly's to suit your taste, including one he made just for me, a 'Jalafredo Philly' (pic). There is also a meatball sandwich, a Rueben, and several pasta dishes to complement the menu. I've been to Vito's a couple dozen times and this point, and everything is incredible. And, I can pick between my two favorite kinds of chips; Miss Vickie's and my beloved Cheetos. Vito is a passionate cook, and a savvy business owner. What a gig he has created for himself! He closes early, but he's basically a one man show, and his loyal following means he runs out of food quickly. I applaud him for working as little as possible, while still providing super quality food at a very fair price. I also appreciate his trusting payment system. This guy truly makes a superlative Philly. I crave a Philly with Cheez Whiz from time to time, but you won't find any at Vito's. I asked him about it, and he smiled and said, 'It won't happen. I know he touts himself as the Philly King of Bountiful, but I really think he is the Philly King of Utah!! I only have good things to say about Vito's. He is a one man band. He prepares and cooks all the food, and it is made fresh daily. I love that he only accepts cash. It kind of brings me back to my childhood when I actually still used cash. I also LOVE that he plays Classic Rock all the time. The place is always spotless, as there is 1 employee that walks around and sweeps crumbs up the second they hit the ground. The counters are always clean and the tables are always straightened up. The best part about Vito's is the actual sandwiches though. I always get a philly cheese steak with swiss cheese cause I love it so much. The price is extremely reasonable, and it comes with a bottomless fountain drink and bag of chips. The cheese steak is seriously one of the best I've had and it definitely beats out Moochies! I come here regularly and even take my baby boy with. He barely has teeth but loves the cheese steak too. Being from NJ, I've had Philly cheesesteaks in Philly, because that's what you're supposed to eat when you're in town. While they are good, they don't stay in my memory as long as my delicious cheesesteak from Vito's will. I had to wait a long time to try this place as the hours are not conducive to a working professionals schedule, but it definitely lived up to all the reviews I'd heard. Along with the hours, the long line, cash only, and tendency to run out of food aspects are not ideal...but in a way it gives this place character. They keep things simple and make delicious food. Tempted to give it 4 stars because it's highly unlikely I'll make it back very often if the hours stay the same, but the food is so good I have to leave my review at 5 stars. I got the Alfredo cheesesteak - it sounded unique and I felt like this place would make a great Alfredo sauce. I was not wrong! My sandwich was incredibly juicy, the peppers and onion were cooked perfectly, and the bread was soft and absorbent. As if I didn't have enough sauce going on, I added the jalapeño sauce which added even more flavor (cherry on top!). I don't think you can go wrong with the menu here. read more

Don't waste your time. There are only 4 very, very small tables in this place nowadays and the stool chairs are terrible. Plus, Vito switched to Pepsi products to increase his profit margin rather than serve Coke products, which is what most of his loyal clientele want. This place is crazy, it really is a one man show. Vito makes all of the sandwiches himself, and it is nonstop! You also pay on your honor; he tells you how much your order is and you put your money in a dish and make your own change. They are only open for a few hours at lunch time and there is always a line, but it moves pretty fast. All of the sandwiches automatically come with chips and a drink, which makes things fast and easy. The prices were very reasonable too. I had the meatball sub and my husband had the mushroom philly. First off the bread is delicious, crunchy outside and soft in the middle. All of the meat was really fresh and flavorful. They didn't scrimp on the mushrooms either, there were tons. I liked the meatball sub the most, it had big tasty meatballs and topped with romano cheese. It wasn't the best meatball sub I have had, but it was still really good. They also have a really good jalapeno sauce, that is great on pretty much any sandwich. Overall, the food was great and Vito's has a really fun atmosphere, I will for sure be back soon. read more

June 2015 The best cheesesteak outside of Philadelphia and better than a lot of the places in philly! January 2016 Ok it's 7 months later and I am back in town. Sitting outside Vito's on a beautiful sunny 34deg day only 22 minutes till it opens. The cook is busy cooking delicious sandwiches, and doesn't want to touch your dirty money. He will tell you the total and it's upon yourself to pay by putting it in the hole (20, 50,100 bills) or in the basket and take only what your change is suppose to be (basket: 1 & 5 bills). {See my pictures.} Yes he is only open during the lunch hour, it's his way of doing it, and he does it well. There's always a line 10-12 deep but he's a fast cook. Why is he only open for lunch you ask? I think he does well in a short period, or he has severe OCD. The standard Philly with whole roasted garlic has the perfect kick of garlic spice, roasted flavor, tender cuts of rib eye meat, and warm creamy provolone. The bread has a hard shell and gives way to a soft, but sturdy, interior. I can't thank Pat Olivieri enough for inventing this sandwich in the 1930's and Vito's for perfecting it in the 2000's. Being lucky enough to experience this establishment is difficult due to the limited hours and selling out of his daily fresh prepared meat. I do however, seize the day (as newsies would say) when I work from home and profoundly recommend you make a special trip to Vito's to proudly say, "I've been there". You won't regret it. read more

Go here. One dude cooking up sandwiches quickly. We had the Alfredo Philly and the Italian sausage sandwich. Both had some fresh and tasty bread. Tip for the wise. The jalapeno sauce is not spicy, yet excellent. I drenched the Italian sausage sandwich in it, so good. Sausage was my fave. The Alfredo Philly was also good, not quite as intense as the Italian with the jalapeno sauce, but a great sandwich. In Bountiful at lunch? Eat here. PS I actually like the change system... I don't end up in Bountiful very often, but found myself there this week. Someone at a local business recommended I try Vito's, claiming they make better phillies than what you find in Philadelphia. I'm always skeptical of hyperbole (and I've had some pretty great phillies in Philadelphia that are hard to beat), but this place did not disappoint. Truly amazing! I may have to make the drive out to Bountiful more often just to go to this place some more. They are only open until 2 p.m. and are cash only as others have mentioned, so be prepared on that front. What a philly! I hand the cream cheese based on other Yelp recommendations and boy it wasn't a disappointment! My wife had the mushroom and she was pleased with it too. When we pulled up at 11:30 on a Friday there was already a line that filled the store. The wait was minimal but definitely worth it. It's cash only. He tells you your total and you cashier yourself (honor system). About a minute later he had our sandwiches hot and ready. Here's the best part... EATING IT! The flavor of the meat and the cream cheese was a pleasant surprise. The bread was a perfect blend of chewy and crunchy. It was a great experience all around. When we got up to leave it was cold and raining outside but the line had defiantly gone right out the door and people were standing out there with smiles on their faces anticipating the deliciousness that was mere moments away. I waited a year to eat again at this location. All year I kept thinking and salivating over the tasty food. Upon getting there I find out that not only were they sold out half an hour before closing but that they wouldn't be open again until after my departure. Left the restaurant feeling sad and hungry. Lesson learned and I'm left waiting another year. Next time I'll be sure to show up before the shop is open for the day. The food is still great and I still love it. I just wish that they didn't run out of food so often? Seems like I'm not the only one who has encountered this. Until then, I'd recommend trying this place out but do make it a habit to show up earlier. read more

I know people are always disappointed to find out that Vito's only opens on weekdays from 11am until food runs out, but I am so glad that it is so hard to visit this place when it's open, otherwise I would be there a few nights a week. Vito's is a cash only business that provides various versions of cheese steaks. This place usually has a line during lunch time. Generally, most of the items are pre-cooked and just waiting to be put together with cheese into a sandwich. The restaurant is fairly small and gets crowded. You may have trouble getting a place to sit. The food tastes okay, but while veggies are plentiful, meat is scarce. That may not be a problem, if the price is lower. Unfortunately, the price is not lower (I think a sandwich runs around $10). For the price, you are better off making your own or going to SLC and go to Moochie's. I know that I will not be returning. read more
