We were excited to try this place but we were really disappointed. The three stars are for the showstopper of SmokeNBones , Ashtyn. Ashtyn was absolutely killing it and at bare minimum deserves a raise. She is The hostess, waitress, food runner, busser, and just about it everything in between. She not only took care of us, five other full tables, to-go orders, and still answering the phone. The food was okay, we got the meat platter with three meats and two sides. The brisket was the highlight of the meal and even then it was still subpar. The Mac and cheese came out a little bit colder than room temp, the rib tips were seasoned well but they were dry more towards the middle, and the spicy sausage was again seasoned well but the spice outweighed flavor. The cornbread was really bad, it was dry and the honey butter in top had a strange after taste that was reminiscent of laundry detergent softener. I really hope the next time we are there it is a better and Ashtyn is not running the shop alone. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely but there were quite a few flies, I think it was due to the influx of people coming and going. read more

I have been coming here for years with my family and we have had many family functions and graduations catered from here as well. I recently just went in person for a takeout order and noticed that they changed their setup from a walk-up line to a sit down order style. I spoke with one of the owner's and her intentions of switching things up and she looks forward to the new change! A= Appearance - Utah is not well known for their BBQ but this place makes you feel like you're somewhere else. The smell of the BBQ sauce and meat are quite enticing. T= Taste - For as long as I've been coming here I have ordered one and only one thing and that is their famous Frito Pie! I love it! I think it is so creative and nothing like I have ever had before. One tip that I do when ordering it is to make sure to get the meat lean cut, but that is just a personal preference because I do not enjoy biting into fatty pieces of meat. read more

Chicken plate was mundane.... cool not hot, tons of fries but only one piece of chicken (not hot) and not tender but dry, seated on the aluminum pan with no taste or sauce. $17 for a pile of fries and a single piece of chicken (tough and not hot) was not tasty, nor do I want to wrestle dry chicken . Too many fries, mundane Cole slaw was not good. Kill the flies and heat up the meat, especially if it's only a SINGLE piece. Fresh off the road all day I was expecting a tasty meal I didn't get.... Won't go back.... Seriously, much ado about side sauces, I was expecting a 'fallin off the bones chicken plate, not a single tough, dry not just ONE piece of chicken for $17...! Was so excited only be to be disappointed. We were seated really quickly and that was the only upside. Waited 30 minutes to finally be acknowledged and brought a drink. There was a table of 4 who came after my party of 2, they all ordered, received their food and checked out before we saw one piece of food. We were understanding of the short staff but there's no excuse to be at an establishment almost an hour and only being given drinks. We paid for the drinks and left, have never experienced such disappointing service like this before. read more

I finally went back for the mac and cheese again today and this time I ordered a pork salad with a side of mac and cheese. If BBQ is the whole business, I should be able to eat the meat plain and love it, but I didn't love it. I felt like I had to add sauce to really enjoy it. While ordering I was asked what salad dressing I wanted, but didn't receive any salad dressing. I also never got my side of mac and cheese, I had to go back to the front to ask for both. They were having some issues with the credit card machine, so maybe that's what caused it. The mac and cheese was, frankly, not very enjoyable. Which is a huge bummer! It felt about on par with a plastic container of mac and cheese from Walmart's deli section. I didn't like the flavor or texture. Overall, the best part of my meal was the soda from the fountain machine. Which is unfortunate. I really wanted to love this place on a second try, but I think this was my last try. read more

Writing a review concerning what was, frankly, racist behavior. I am Asian, my wife is white. Situation occured on 4/11/2026. Around 1230. The first question that we were asked when we were seated was "will you both be on separate checks?". A bit jarring, but ok. I then noticed that no one else who entered after us was asked the same question. Our food arrived. I had ordered the rib tips. This was not my first time here and every other time I had ordered it it had come on a plate. This time it was in a bowl. Not necessarily an issue, however it then proceeded to take about 10 minutes before the waitress acknowledged me and brought me a plate for my food. I still tipped 20%. Food was great but questionable if we'll return based on the unwelcoming attitude of our server. read more

Walked in at 6pm. There was one family eating and one family (6 or 7). The waitress looked at me then proceeded to take their orders. Not once was I acknowledged for even being there. After standing there for 5 mins and four orders I stepped up to the cook and asked if I just seat myself. The waitress snidely remarked that she would seat me and take my order when she was done unless I wanted a take out order. I weighed my options. Obviously I was NOT going to get decent service, and I was not going to be leaving a tip. I could take out but would I still have to wait another 5 mins to look at a menu? Would I be welcome to just seat myself while I wait? Would I be waiting for 6 orders to be served before I get mine? So I said never mind and left. On the way out the waitress remarked "fine!" Just completely disrespectful to the customers. Not only did she give me attitude but she did it in front of other customers. How she could have gotten it right..... 1. Acknowledge my presence. 2. If there isn't a host the please wait to be seated should be removed. We waited outside and then waited for longer before waiter came. Waiter didn't have time to check on us. Not only was it under staffed but management was struggling and loudly reprimanded the dish washer. I watched several groups of people leave because of waiting in line outside. Even with great food it will be awhile before I go back. I think we ended up waiting around 30 minutes added up. A host/ second wait staff is definitely needed. read more

We were looking for dinner and decided to check them out while we were in town (we're from Texas so we're fairly picky out our BBQ). Their building doesn't convey the 'BBQ' joint from the outside, but inside it is the typical wooden tables and such, so hopefulness was restored. The guy taking orders was very friendly and helpful - another plus. My grandson ordered the double brisket cheeseburger and fries; my wife ordered the loaded fries with chopped brisket and I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and some brisket. The fact that the guy taking orders knew what I was talking about when I ordered the brisket moist and burnt ends was promising. There wasn't too long of a wait for the food, which was nice. The double brisket burger was very tasty and moist - but the bun completely fell apart and wasn't correctly sized for the burgers - it was kind of a mess - a really tasty mess though. Their fries are great - lightly seasoned but not overly seasoned and they were nice and crispy on the outside - really good. The fries and chopped brisket was really good. The ribs - good flavor but a bit too much pepper in the rub that was used - but still very good. They were just a tad overcooked on the outside - nothing major, but noticeable. Inside the ribs were perfect - moist and easy to get off the bone but not falling off the bone like happens at some places when they overcook them. Overall very good ribs. The brisket was very good - the moist was exactly as it should be for moist brisket and the blackened ends were perfectly smoked - slightly burnt as they should have been but not overly so. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town. They have lots of sides and we didn't try any this visit but next visit we will. read more

What? Good BBQ in Bountiful? Yes, it's true, Bountiful has some good BBQ. The smoked Turkey is awesome, tender and full of flavor. No sauce needed. The ribs are big, tender, and fall off the bone. Could have been a little juicier. The BBQ sauces are tasty. The sweet original is my favorite, they have classic Carolina Sauce, by request. It's a mustard based sauce, true to the Carolina's. Cornbread with a slab of butter on top. I think it would be better if served warm, the butter doesn't melt and would be way better if it did. read more

South Davis County is a relative food desert (chain restaurant hell), so I'm always leery of trying new places here. I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. The ribs are definitely cooked properly and fell off the bone- excellent! I also really enjoyed the coleslaw and cornbread. My husband loved the Navajo taco, and the pulled pork was okay. The downfall is probably the sauces- they were just okay, and I tried the sweet and spicy options. I'd be open to trying the others, but they just weren't memorable in any way. I even had difficulty remembering which one was sweet and which was spicy (!) Ordering online was quick, and pickup was friendly. There's lots of space to eat in, but I could see that parking would be a challenge (small lot, some street parking). Would return for the ribs. read more

Just got back home with my order of brisket Navajo taco I've never eaten one from here or anywhere! Jess I believe is an owner was who greeted me and took my order, after her advice I ordered the Navajo brisket taco with onions lettuce and tomatoes all on a bed of delicious soft fry bread bbq beans. The taco is huge! I'll probably be eating on it for two days to finish it. I have had their brisket before and the brisket on the taco is excellent as usual, love the bbq beans! Service 5/5 ambiance 4/5 food 10/5! I haven't tried or eaten most things on their menu because I love their brisket and this time I went for the taco and it did not disappoint! I love it's locally owned and run by family. Mom and pop restaurants are rare and I always support local over corporate restaurants. read more

Had a craving for some BBQ and decided to finally give Smokin Bones a try. Takeout was delicious. The ribs were so tender and the meat easily came off the bone. Pulled pork was smoky and tender. Fairly good barbecue. The brisket was super tender. Ribs were a tad dry towards the ends but juicy in the middle. Mac and cheese was not our favorite, it's super saucy. The potato salad was really good though! The scone fell flat for me personally. Service was good. You walk up and order at the counter. They forgot the Carolina sauce we ordered but it was no big deal. The girl who took our order was nice. I was so excited to try this small local place. It's cute and inviting, but that's where the good stops. The food was so bad. Like so, so bad. My whole family was laughing about how bad it was. First of all the meat is cooked ahead of time (normal, I know) but then it just sits there in tin foil and is served room temperature. We got brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. The pork did have a smoky flavor, but that's it. Our portion was mainly a huge chunk of fat with very little edible meat, and a huge hair right in the middle. The brisket had a tiny bit of smoky flavor but not much flavor at all. The chicken had no flavor. None. And it was dry. We also got sausage. It was a mild/hot Italian sausage exactly like the ones you can get at Costco with the casing that is so thick and awkward. Italian sausage at a BBQ??? If you smothered the meat in BBQ sauce it was edible. But nothing special. Just normal BBQ sauce. The spicy one is just spice, very little flavor. The sweet one is just like any other cheap sauce you can get at a grocery store. The Carolina was super vinegary and I didn't dare try the mustard. The coleslaw was old cabbage with vinegar on it. That's it. Oh! There is one good thing! The cornbread is good! Tastes like it should! The portions are TINY. We are regulars at R&R and not only is it cheaper, but you get twice as much food. Like I said, I was so excited to try a local place and even left a tip in support, but wow were we disappointed! We ordered online and then had to wait in a long line to be served. Then the order hadn't even been started, even though it was past time it said it would be ready. So we had to wait for them to put it together anyway and ordering online was pointless. I wish I could give a better review and support a local restaurant, but I'll stick with R&R and support local places with other types of food. read more

We come here often but had this been the first time, we never would have come back. Tip to the owners- don't leave your Saturday night dinner shift to teenagers who struggle to work with any sense of speed. Our order for 4 people came out plate by plate over a 15 minute span and half of them were wrong. Multiple, multiple other parties were also waiting and I heard "I'm so sorry it took so long" at least a dozen times. On a positive note the meat was good but every other side was average at best. Smokin Bones is local owned and operated and at times serves some pretty damned good Q. It goes back and forth between "good" and "great" in my experiences. First, there's some sides I just love. The Mac and Cheese is second to none and the cornbread is a destination item. I look forward to those every time I visit. I've tried a few of the others and they have all been super tasty. The meats: The sausage is legit. It's spicy. They TELL you it's spicy. When they serve it they tell you AGAIN that it's spicy. It really is spicy. The turkey is my second favorite and they cook it perfectly. Just enough smoke and extremely moist. Their pork has been "okay" in my experience and I like it better as a sandwich than by itself. The bread soaks you some of the grease and makes it better. The brisket is where I struggle here. Usually the flat is served sliced and the point gets chopped or goes for burnt ends. I seem to keep getting point sliced and it's really, really fatty and greasy. So much so that I end up leaving a lot of it. The sauces are good here but they're a little too tight with it. You get a couple ounces with your meat and they have a sign saying they charge for more. No bueno. I want some sauce selection without going to the meter fund for it. Prices are very reasonable for BBQ. You won't eat cheap (Sammies are around $9 and two plate special around $15) but if you know what goes in to good BBQ, you know that's reasonable. Definitely going to keep coming back. Next time I'll try and remember to request the flat on my brisket and pair it with more of that turkey or sausage. read more

I think they used to better. In the past I raved about them, but the quality has slipped. The value just isn't there, paying $14 for a sandwich and one side is outrageous. I didn't feel like I got my moneys worth. The meat on the sandwich was cold and tasted old. Their mac and cheese is among the worst I've had and I wouldn't recommend it. The flavor was overwhelmingly peppery, but mixing in some the BBQ sauce helped. Maybe it was just this visit, a bad day for them, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to visit them again.
