First, I saw a youtube review of the burgers (in particular the diner burger). super excited to try a new burger place. I was driving so I just did a quick internet search of nelsons which brought up the I believe millcreek location which I dialed. I wasnt sure which I reached while I was on the phone until I asked if it was the bountiful location (which is closest to me). When I realized I didnt have bountiful I asked if I could get the bountiful location phone number. the girl who answered said she didnt have the number and didnt even offer to look it up. I asked if she could look it up and she wouldn't. Then I found the bountiful number, called it, I asked if I could place an order for take out, the guy who answered said "I'm not sure", then put me on hold, he got back on the phone and said :I can't take your order." So I thought f)((* it, I dont need to support a place w/horrible customer service. No other restaurant or fast food place would never not take my order. I will never darken Nelsons door and we ended up at burger king with the whopper which was fine with us. customer service to these people means very little. read more

I've never had frozen custard before. I thought it would be like frozen yogurt. BUT IT IS NOT! I loved the creamy (real creamy!) I am impressed with the quality and flavor and texture!! There are no ice crystal's like regular ice cream but it is frozen and pliable. Scoop it with a spoon and enjoy it. This is my first time trying it. The staff at drive-thru was very nice and excellent at their work. From the way they spoke to me taking my order to handling my payment to delivering my custard. I was impressed. The inside looks very inviting; the place has been around for years. I remember seeing this place when I was a little kid and always wanting to come because it always looked like it was the place to be. And Now that I know, oh heck, yeah, I will be coming back with my family. read more

Not a great experience today. When we got home and unpacked our food, the onion rings were way overcooked/burned and no one mentioned this before we left the store. Also, my daughter is a service missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the last time she went there, the manager told her that they only give the missionary discount to "real missionaries", referencing that because she's not a proselyting missionary, she's somehow less than they are. It's very disappointing to hear that they'd treat service missionaries this way. read more

I finally tried Nielsens after living here over 7 years! The burgers are so good and cheesy, but the buns ruin the experience a little. I don't like how thick they are and rip off some of the top so it doesn't take away from the cheese goodness. The fries and onion rings are phenomenal. I am currently looking for the best onion ring in the Bountiful area and Nielsens is at the top of my list (of 11 places) as of now. They are almost perfect. My only complaint was the onions had no flavor, but that probably depends on the day. They are perfectly crunchy with a thicker batter and good amount of seasoning. I also appreciate the portion size. It's perfect for one person, which makes it a decent price. Other local places have huge portions and are much more expensive. read more

Great place! Super busy when we were there. Limited parking & seating. The drive through was insane & wrapped around the building. Went inside & ordering took a while, but it was worth the wait. Custard comes out quickly. Quicker than the other menu items. Burgers were surprisingly good & very fresh. Onion rings & fries were a welcome addition. Often at Custard or other dairy dessert places anything other than the main faire is an afterthought. It wasn't here. Ice cream was top notch as well. Would recommend & hope to come back soon. You know what, their burgers, onion rings and fries are actually really good. I know most people come here for the ice cream, and that's good too, but don't skip out on the food here. The place is busy, a little small, and long lines, but I would say it's worth it. Not incredibly expensive, and the seating is clean and spacious. I'd come here again. read more

We are long time customers of Nielsen's. We went last night for a family dinner and from start to finish I was disappointed. They were busy although it was tapering off as it was almost 7 pm. We stood at the outdoor order window over 5 minutes before acknowledged. We ordered a variety of food. I had a grinder. There was almost no meat. It was largely chopped lettuce and plain bun. My husband had a corn dog and it wasn't hot all the way through, like it had been microwaved but not thoroughly. The onion rings were almost burnt. The fries were okay, but when I asked for ketchup I was literally given 3 small foil packets which were a mess with (leaked?) mustard on them. The custard was probably the only thing that met expectations. We won't be back for food for a while if ever. The employees just don't seem to care about quality. read more

Slow service and confusing menu but great concretes! I've never seen anyone get anything but a concrete (but I'll admit I usually go around 9pm) but wow they were great today as they have been every time I've gone! Today I got the seasonal pumpkin with brownie mix-ins (and the second concrete was the vanilla with bumbleberry), both were amazing. The pumpkin custard is made with fresh pumpkin, and while the bumbleberry has fruit syrup in it, they also mix in fresh raspberries. read more

Absolutely love the frozen custard here. My favorite is plain chocolate or either vanilla with double oreo topping or the concrete.

This is a little pricey, but the custard is beyond amazing and the food is good, too. The cookie dough mix-in may be the best cookie dough I have ever tasted. The interior is charmingly decorated like an old-fashioned diner. There's both a drive-thru and and a walk-up window outside, but be prepared to wait, because the place tends to run a little slowly. Happily, after years of refusal, the business now takes credit cards. Oh, and this is a great place for dates! My spouse and I had our first date here. read more

This place does NOT disappoint. I've been a fan of their custard since forever - anytime we go to the St. George location we HAVE to stop here. However- the Bountiful location also has FOOD!! Their grinder sandwiches are UNREAL. I opted for the pastrami sandwich and was in absolute heaven. Their fries are delightful and the fry sauce is perfection. My favorite custard concretes to get are (in no particular order) : raspberry, Oreo, cookie dough, and caramel cashew. Love this place. The custard is to die for. I also love the dough on their burgers. It's a charming restaurant that is a hit in the area. I love the neon sign too. Today we were in the drive thru to get 5 custards. We got them, but they were super melted. A worker delivered them to our car through the window, we commented on the melted consistency, and then she walked away. Terrible customer service. We ordered 4 concretes and only one was correct. When we said something we were told we would have to pay again and it wasn't their fault. Emily Nielsen the owner actually told us that it was fine if we never came back. Our order was over $60 and a fun outing with some grandkids turned into a mess. This place was PERFECT after a long, hot hike. The drive thru line was so long it was starting to impact traffic and my boyfriend tried suggesting going somewhere else but I knew that long line meant something! We parked and used their walk up window to each order a concrete and a burger and fries to share. Everything was so good and hit the spot, although I prefer my fries to be crispier. We have only been here a year and I finally came to try Nielsen's. I had avoided it because we had such a bad experience with the one on highland. The spot is located in a prime area right on the main strip of 2600s by the schools and just off the highway. They could probably use some more parking or a larger space to accommodate all the cars entering as it backs up in both directions with people trying to get into the driveway. The service is quick and the staff is friendly and the concrete shakes are done right. Over the top and solid. They have a great selection of flavors and a food menu to boost. Happened across this place by chance. It was a bit of a wait for my order but they were packed. The food was so delicious so I went back the very next day with friends. They all loved it too. I have the Junior burger, diner burger, fries, and root beer float. All delicious, hot, and fresh. It's currently my favorite drive thru place in Utah and my favorite burger place by far. The bread tastes really fresh and delicious as well. It's a cute little diner with a walk up ordering window and drive thru. I think the diner is closed but we did not mind. I have only had the custards at Nielsen's, but every time my shake has been super creamy and tasty! I love the bumbleberry, which is raspberry and Strawberry. You also can't go wrong with cookie dough. There are ma y flavors to choose from! Be ready for a long wait though on weekends. The drive thru takes while and inside is packed as well. It is also pretty expensive, which is why I go only if I want a special treat. $7 for a regular size, which seems pretty small compared to most shake places. read more
