The food was out of this world delicious! Best BBQ I've had EVER! However, I was extremely unimpressed by Sally. Granted, we were there on a Saturday and perhaps there were a lot of customers because of the chalk show. But the vibe she put off was anxiety, impatience and rudeness. The worst part was that she was SO MEAN to the young server who was really doing her best. I just wanted to give her a big hug before I left and tell her that she was doing a good job. The BBQ here is pretty meh. Thr chicken didn't have a lot of taste, the burnt ends were average, and the Mac & cheese was bland. We stopped in on our way to bear lake and were blown away by the excellent service and easily the best bbq I've ever had at a restaurant. The burnt ends were the star of the show with their crispy bark and tender center that literally melts in your mouth. Topped with hot honey made these beauties absolute perfection. The pulled pork was so tender and moist, we had to get another order because the kids gobbled it down. Don't sleep on the cheesy potatoes either, they were packed with smoky flavor and soft but still had a snap when you bite into them. The owner was so kind and showed me his off-set and explained the woods he uses and entire process. He made recommendations and took the time to visit with us and make us feel welcome. I also was blown away at how fast the food came out, from the time we ordered until it arrived at our table was less than 10 minutes for a giant sample platter. When you've had enough of the black air in SLC and want to see the Sun then take a beautiful ride to Morgan Utah and eat at the Smokin Boxcar. It's a BBQ place and they have a huge selection of smoked meats that you can eat how you want. I had BBQ Chicken Tostados and took home for my husband their giant plate filled with every meat and he loved it. My absolute favorite thing though were the BBQ Beans . I wish they sold them in a Barrel because I would buy it. I thought I made good Baked Beans but no not compared to these. Morgan is a very small town. Like Mayberry in the Mountains. Generous portions of tender, flavorful bbq ribs on dinner plate. They are four of the big ribs, not the small ones. The sides are all homemade and fantastic, especially the coleslaw. But, my favorite were the cheesy potatoes. Thinly sliced potatoes with cheese sparsely spread in between. The staff is friendly and competent. We ordered our dog a plate of brisket, but had a difficult time not eating the super tender meat ourselves. It tasted like well seasoned, savory, melt in your mouth pot roast. Stop here for food because there's nothing good in Ogden or Wyoming. A perfect stop for a short dog walk and excellent bbq. read more

Passing through Morgan and found this gem. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was great. The brisket salad (half) was filling and deliciously crisp. Especially enjoyed the slight horseradish bite in the sauce. The brisket French dip was tasty. The hoagie roll was pillow soft, flavorful, and fresh. The au jus was just the right flavor. My wife and I ate here 6/24/24. There are limited choices to eat in Morgan, but we thought barbecue sounded good and is not easy to screw up. My wife had a salad with some brisket mixed with the salad. She said it was OK. I ordered brisket and some potato salad. The brisket was a thick cut of some overly done meat with a chunk of fat the size of a silver dollar. Needless to say, I used a butter knife to cut off a few pieces because most of what was served was not worth the effort. I'm not sure how this place gets these other nice reviews. I had the burnt ends with cheese potatoes and beans with bacon, she had the brisket French dip with the same baked beans with bacon and fried pickles. Little did I know that we would be walking into Morgan's rendition of Hell's Kitchen. As soon as we walked into the place, the owner began yelling at the top of his lungs at the waitress, which completely startled me. We were not greeted and were left standing awkwardly not knowing what to do. Eventually we were told to wait for a table, although there were several available. We almost left, but then the owner showed us to a table. It was the absolute worst place to sit in the entire establishment directly next to the front door. Up against a window curve and ledge on one side and blocking the walkway on the other. There were two very nice empty tables right next to us, so we moved over. It was then that I noticed "DON'T" signs plastered throughout the restaurant. Not welcoming whatsoever, but evidence that others have been poorly seated before us and so the owner felt it necessary to place big signs throughout rather than fix the problem. Additionally, the acoustics were horrendous. I could barely hear my husband because the sounds from the other patrons were deafening. Despite all this, we were trying to make the best of a bad situation and were looking forward to a good meal. We asked the waitress for some recommendations but found out she was a vegetarian (in a meat establishment?!?!), so she could not help us out. She was very nice and adorable, though, which helped to make up for the abrasive, unfriendly boss. My husband ordered a boxcar thinking it was like a sampler based on its description and being listed on the menu under "Plates". What he got was a big pile of potatoes (fries and tater tots) with a spattering of meat and a bunch of cheese. Not bad at all if you like that sort of thing, but he doesn't like his food in a pile. Had there been a more accurate description or a photo, he would never have ordered it. He picked through it, but was miserable with his choice. (I did also notice that the table next to us left two boxcars almost completely intact and barely eaten.) I enjoyed my Philly bratwurst and really liked my mac-n-cheese. To note, restrooms were very nice and clean and the ambiance was pleasant with railroad artwork throughout. Yet, I never felt at ease or welcome, and, although we travel through Morgan often, we don't plan on returning. "The Smokin' Boxcar" just isn't our cup of tea. read more

Had some family coming in from out of State and our regular favorite near Morgan had an unexpected power outage, so this place popped up on Yelp. We were a moderately large group and the location was short staffed, but the service was perfect. Not in your face every time you took a mouthful, but close enough to keep the drinks full. I enjoyed the burnt ends. My Wife had the Philly Cheese Steak and my Father in Law had the ribs. There were four more family members with us with varying tastes, and always one in the crowd that there is no pleasing, but overall everyone was pretty happy. I don't know that I would make the drive up from Salt Lake just to come here, but I would definitely stop by again next time I am in the area. read more

My buddies and I had to rent a tube for the river because we discovered mine wouldn't hold air (my kids ruin everything they borrow). The lady at the rental place there in Morgan suggested we eat later at The Smokin' Boxcar just down the street. We had a great day floating the river (7/12/2024 and it was HOT) and we were all very hungry afterwards. As we were walking into The Smokin' Boxcar, some people from out of town came walking by and told us that we were making a good decision and that this place was fantastic! They weren't wrong! The owner actually came out and chatted with us and told us a little about his background which we all found really interesting. Our waitress was super cool as well. We were the only people in there at the time and I'm 100% positive that if this place was located in Salt Lake City and not on the outskirts of civilization, that it would always be packed with patrons. The food blew me away! We all shared a massive plate of nachos and I got the Brisket Philly. Even with my post-river appetite I couldn't eat the whole thing but that's ok because I was looking forward to the leftovers the rest of the day! EASILY one of the best places I've eaten at and I'll be stopping in Morgan whenever I'm near that area! Great food and we really enjoyed meeting and talking to the owner and his staff! read more
