Smokin Bones is local owned and operated and at times serves some pretty damned good Q. It goes back and forth between "good" and "great" in my experiences. First, there's some sides I just love. The Mac and Cheese is second to none and the cornbread is a destination item. I look forward to those every time I visit. I've tried a few of the others and they have all been super tasty. The meats: The sausage is legit. It's spicy. They TELL you it's spicy. When they serve it they tell you AGAIN that it's spicy. It really is spicy. The turkey is my second favorite and they cook it perfectly. Just enough smoke and extremely moist. Their pork has been "okay" in my experience and I like it better as a sandwich than by itself. The bread soaks you some of the grease and makes it better. The brisket is where I struggle here. Usually the flat is served sliced and the point gets chopped or goes for burnt ends. I seem to keep getting point sliced and it's really, really fatty and greasy. So much so that I end up leaving a lot of it. The sauces are good here but they're a little too tight with it. You get a couple ounces with your meat and they have a sign saying they charge for more. No bueno. I want some sauce selection without going to the meter fund for it. Prices are very reasonable for BBQ. You won't eat cheap (Sammies are around $9 and two plate special around $15) but if you know what goes in to good BBQ, you know that's reasonable. Definitely going to keep coming back. Next time I'll try and remember to request the flat on my brisket and pair it with more of that turkey or sausage. read more

I think they used to better. In the past I raved about them, but the quality has slipped. The value just isn't there, paying $14 for a sandwich and one side is outrageous. I didn't feel like I got my moneys worth. The meat on the sandwich was cold and tasted old. Their mac and cheese is among the worst I've had and I wouldn't recommend it. The flavor was overwhelmingly peppery, but mixing in some the BBQ sauce helped. Maybe it was just this visit, a bad day for them, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to visit them again. Visiting from out of town and wanted bbq so we went here. Service was incredibly slow and they were out of everything we wanted. The guy taking the orders did not tell us they were out of things , someone filling the orders came into the dining room and informed you then asked what you wanted instead. my mom here today for Mother's Day. She got the pork with potato salad and macaroni and cheese and I got the barbecue brisket, Indian fried bread. We also got ribs to take home to our families for dinner. My favorite thing was the ribs which were very tender, flavorful and had a lot of meat on the bones. The pulled pork was also very tender and had good flavor. Out of the different sides that we got, my favorite was the.cornbread. It was very moist and it was a nice size piece of cornbread. We were just in the area and decided to try this one night for dinner. We have already ordered more takeout a few times since. I will say it was best in person. We've only had good food here! I like it a lot more than a BBQ chain that can be found not too far away. I'm from KC, so the bbq isn't as good as what I'm used to, but the meat is still extremely tender and I've gotten the pulled pork sandwich which feels like a great deal for just 9.99. The cornbread is delicious and the fries are really good too. The Mac and cheese is yummy with a tiny kick. Be aware that service is pretty slow. When we are in the restaurant we had to wait awhile. This spot used to be one of my favorite BBQ joints in Utah. Their ribs were . The last 3 visits the ribs were crazy dry with very little meat. Everytime we visit Utah we make sure to come here at least once if not multiple times! Love the steak burgers, they come with cheese and pulled pork on top. Navajo taco is another favorite, it's a delicious soft scone smothered in cheese, bbq beans, chopped brisket, and bbq sauce. The bbq beans are really good, and the cream corn is a major favorite. I wish I took better pictures like I planned but we always get too excited for the good food and already dug in when I remembered to. read more

You know.....I really want to like these guys. I know it's tough for restaurants to survive in Davis County. But the BBQ is wildly inconsistent. I've had times where the Q was on point, but the last three times I've gone there it's been bad. Dry brisket. Burned ribs. Sides not executed well. It's too expensive to not be good. I got two three meat combos and it was upwards of fifty bucks, and they ask for tips. Seriously. Stop asking your customers for tips. They aren't doing anything that merits a tip. Until they can get it dialed in, I'll be going to SLC for my BBQ fix. read more

This place is actually pretty decent, not the best bbq I've had but not the worst. Prices are very reasonable - my favorite was the brisket. The only thing I probably didn't like abt our visit is that they're not practicing social distancing in the dining room so it was super packed and that made me nervous today. I never knew I would find such delicious barbecue in Bountiful, UT. Everything looked and smelled so good and the staff was great! Here's a tip! Try the "Our Style" Navajo Taco. It's a scone, mozzerella cheese, baked beans, topped with beef brisket. I got a side or cole slaw and dumped it on top. It was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. The sauce is so gooood. Perfectly sweet smoky and spiced. The brisket is succulent and tender. This combination on the scone made for just one of those perfect food moments. Was very excited to try Smokin Bones, but it just didn't hit the expectations. I ordered smoked turkey since it was raved by everyone in the reviews. It certainly did not disappoint. I would say that the turkey saved the day by being tender, flavorful, and in general, very tasty. I got the Navajo taco and it is a lot of food! It's a scone acting as a pizza dough of sorts, cheese, bbq sauce, beans, and choice of meat. I chose turkey. I highly, highly recommend the turkey if you were to try this place. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but no kidding, the Mac and cheese tasted like it was cooked in dirty water. It had a stink and strange taste to it that was reminiscent of a dirty sock. I guess I'm not in the minority when I say I've liked coming here in the past, but can't say that anymore. I drove 30 minutes for this? The brisket was okay but the macaroni and cheese was barely warm and had no taste at all. I tried a noodle and threw the rest away. My husband said the only saving grace for his three-meat plate was the bbq sauce. They "weren't making pizza today" which is usually the reason I come. It's great if they'll turn the oven on. I wish they'd just cover it on the menu if they didn't feel like making it. There were three other tables while my family was there and as soon as the last plate was served, the entire staff sat out on the floor having a grand ol' time chatting and on their phones. My first time but won't be my last. Went at 5:30 PM and the line eventually went almost to the door. Had a 1/2 rack of tender ribs that were falling off each bone. For $18 you also get 2 sides. I had the baked beans which were tasty and some coleslaw which was more vinegar oil recipe instead of the typical sugar/mayonnaise drenched kind. The corn bread was awesome with a good portion of honey butter left on top. It took a good 45 mins to get our food so will not be going during peak hours. Your leftover containers are stacked on a table for you to grab. Also there is very little parking so if the stores around are closed, use them. Well worth the money. read more

Of the meats, the brisket and turkey were probably the best. The brisket was a little dry but had a good bark to it. Just Okay: the ribs. They were a tad too tender and needed sauce, which usually isn't a good thing when eating BBQ. Needs work: the coleslaw is more of an Asian coleslaw. The pulled pork had zero bark mixed in and little smoke flavor. I'm almost positive the BBQ sauce is store bought, there was nothing special about it. Absolutely the best BBQ i've had in Utah. Everything i have had there is beyond delicious. I've had everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the ribs, or the turkey, or the brisket or the pulled pork. Ya can't go wrong. He uses cavatappi noodles for the Mac & cheese so more noodle to absorb the flavor. And the beans are to die for. The coleslaw is more vinegary than creamy but that is my style. Big chunks of cabbage. And of course the cornbread with honey butter compliments everything.
