HOWEVER i put in a to go order and i was missing half of my food. the place was being ran by literal children, preteen at best, who had no idea what they were doing. they couldn't decide whether they should give me the food i had ordered even though i checked it in the restaurant with the staff. very unwilling to help fix my order. it felt like i was the one working there. they then messed up again after attempting to fix it. i know a great babysitter if you need one. read more

Try the spicy barbecue sauce for that bold flavor (I'm not even a fan of spicy food and that one was my favorite). Delicious BBQ in Utah. The best in UTAH! I got the Navajo Taco and it's delicious and giant. It has a giant scone layered with mozzarella cheese, baked beans, and topped with Brisket and BBQ sauce. It's just great. Bring a friend to help you eat it! The slaw was very tasty. The baked beans are phenomenal and the corn bread was old timey. I've been enjoying BBQ here for 4 years. Tried Take Out for the first time. Ordered online for a 5:30 pick up. I arrived a couple minutes early and had to wait for a few minutes, less than 10. The staff was hustling to help folks quickly, very well organized. The food was still warm when we got home. The sausage (with a spectacular mustard sauce) and half-rack ribs were a huge hit with my husband, an Englishman who learned about BBQ in Oklahoma. He loved the Mac and cheese...very creamy and cheesy. My pork and brisket were good, the sauce very tasty. The creamed corn, something I love dearly, was very sweet. Way too sweet to eat more than a couple bites. It broke my heart because there was a delicious touch of bacon in the dish. this is our go to BBQ place! we cannot get enough of it and love taking friends and family here when they come to visit. Their pork sandwich is a hitter as is their frito pie. I also really like their cheese pizza (they add bbq on top if you want and it gives it the touch it needs) and their fries are delicious with the seasoning they use. My husband was getting a bit hangry and was really wanting a good burger. Looked up BBQ and burgers in the area we were in. Stumbled across this place. First look is a wee bit off since it is located in a strip mall of sorts. Finding it and getting Tonite was easy, as was the parking. Plenty of it to go around. Walking in, the look of the restaurant was a bit off, showing its age a little. If you read my reviews, you know I have issues with smelling like food when I leave a restaurant. This place would get a 3.5 on that. Wasn't too bad, was kind of tolerable. Let's face it, I want to eat at a place, sure, but I don't want to have to relive the meal for the rest of my day as food odors cling to my clothing and hair. Moving on. Service was nice. The team was doing a good job at their work. The place was super clean, a plus in any book! Menu was ok, some interesting options, but nothing too fancy. Im going to be honest. I've been here before and I really enjoyed my experienced every other time. I went in this most recent time after having bragged about this place to my partner for weeks. I must say the little food you get is good, but not good enough to be back for how bad the service and atmosphere is. I've never seen anything like it before. The kids running this place are all under 20 and can't get off their phones for more than 5 minutes. Every time a customer needs service the 1 kid out of 7 gets up from the "break table", which is in the dining area in front of customers, might possibly get what is needed and goes right back and sits down with their phone in their face, I don't want to forget the headphones as well. This shouldn't shock me, but it does. 6 workers are in front of customers while 1 is in the back working. The so called guy in charge yells at his workers while he sits on his ass half the time. I honestly can't believe everything I experienced, especially working in the industry and knowing what is acceptable behavior and hospitality. My wife and I stopped in Bountiful for the night. We asked for a good place for dinner, not a chain restaurant. We were told to try Smokin Bones. Wow!!, This is a small little place but the food is incredible. The staff was young, but very kind and courteous. The place was very clean and orderly. Very simple menu, easy to understand. We both had the beef brisket platter with 2 sides and an order of fries. Very tender and flavorful meat. The whole meal was great, but the fries were outstanding. FINALLY! Real Southern Barbecue in a great family atmosphere has reached the north side of the valley. Bountiful has new home for slow smoked Beef, Pork, Wings and even Brick oven Pizza, BBQ style. They are only a couple months into it, but are making the art of friendly, down home southern Barbecue with full flavor and listening to customers to a whole new level. They are weekly adding new menu items as their faithful customers recommend additional items. This past week, they added Navajo Taco. Topped with slow smoked Brisket is so good. Never would have thought of that. I had the Steak Burger and at first glance, I thought it was on the small size, but after a few bites, I was hooked. It is now one of my favorite burgers in Utah. High quality meat topped with pulled pork and melted cheese. Yumm. Give them a try and stay long enough for the complimentary chocolate dipped cookies that one of the family members will bring around your table as they ask how they can make your experience even better. Smokin Bones was a tough place to review and I thought hard on whether this should be a 3 or a 4 star review, especially since I like to support family run businesses in general. It is made harder due to the fact that downtown Salt Lake has some really awesome BBQ places that are inherently my measure of good BBQ food in Utah and only a few miles from here. Add to that a few minor niggles and I elected that 3 is fairer. This place is a little lacking in atmosphere, and while the bull themed pizza oven in the far corner is an interesting twist I don't come somewhere like this for pizza, I come for BBQ. This place just doesn't do anything that would prevent it being compared to your average strip mall chain. Part of experiencing good BBQ is atmosphere, so this detracted from the experience for me. However, the ultimate test is the food, and I'm glad to report it's not bad overall. Pulled Pork was decent, but nothing special, the brisket on the other hand was very succulent and tasty and would definitely be something I would get here again. My only gripe with the brisket is it is pulled also, not sliced, but I know some people prefer that, it just doesn't give textural variety when you get it with the pulled pork. I also got ribs as part of a 3 meat plate. They were alright, but since you have to get 3 meats for ribs to be an option I would not bother again - they were small and somewhat lacking in flavor. There are much better places for ribs than this. For sides I had BBQ baked beans which were very good and cornbread. The latter was served cold, and while a large portion, nothing special. One final gripe - they don't take AmEx. Any good business should accept all payment methods. Many of us don't use debit cards (for safety) or carry cash since our credit cards give us rewards too, and while it does not factor into my rating, the attitude from the server left something to be desired. However, if you live in or find yourself in Bountiful and don't want to make the trek downtown, this is a decent place and worth a try. read more

I smoke my own meat(BBQ meat you sickos) , I fly out to Kansas City 3 to 4 times a year and partake in all their wonderful barbecue they have out there. That being said smokin bones is as good a barbecue you will find in the great beehive State. Their menu is unique. Their staff is super friendly. And you never leave here hungry because you gets lots of food. My favorite item on the menu is the brisket Navajo taco. What's that you say? Yes a Navajo taco I said. Just like it sounds a fried scone top of beans, cheese, tender savory brisket, and a perfect barbecue sauce. When Jesus eats barbecue in heaven he probably has this Navajo taco. Though I cannot confirm that fact. One thing is for sure he's not eating funeral potatoes. He's had more than his fair share of those. Who still makes those anyway? Kyle is the bbq king and I've drempt of the ribs (very big/meaty) since I went. I'm not a huge meat eater but they were the best ribs I've ever had and I want more! They sell out of them some days and can't just whip them up so get them at lunch for sure. This is the real deal. You'll find Kyle out back, big smokers, a warehouse full of wood and very friendly staff. If you get a chance to chat with them out back, you should. It really made my experience. Don't let Kyle's bad boy image scare you, he's a sweetheart. I thought the wait was long for the style of food (already made). The sides were good but I wasn't blown away. People love the steak burger but I'm more of a purist. I love the personality of the place - they made a pizza oven that looks like a bull. It's pretty unique. Some people make food, other people are artists. I truly think Kyle is an artist and I'm happy to have such delicious bbq closer to home. Okay, okay I know I keep going back and forth with the stars, but I have to stick to my guns on the original review, I regretfully let peer pressure sway a star away. Please see the updated review just before this for some great constructive feedback about the place, but the more and more I go, the more I think that those who don't like or appreciate Smokin Bones, either just chose the wrong thing (you cant judge a BBQ place by getting a Pizza or Cheeseburger, even if those things are delicious), or you just do not know your BBQ basics. People have a lot of misconceptions about BBQ, and perhaps Utahan's have got in their heads the overly sauced, and overly seasoned crap you find at chain restaurants is good BBQ. There is a "5 BBQ Myths" post you can find through Google that explains how I feel about miss-judged BBQ. Not only was my recent visit to Smoking bones on which I orders 3 meat with Ribs, Brisket and Pork, with a side of Beans and Cream Corn, the best BBQ I think I have ever had, but it was also almost completely consistent with my experiences at SB. The Brisket was fresh and tender, not over seasoned and really just a delight. The pork was amazing and juicy and tasted like pork, not like a rub or sauce that was overly smothered on, and the ribs had the perfect bite, held to the bone until your teeth gently pull it away! The main reason I have gone back to 5 stars is that these guys LET THE MEAT DO THE TALKING, the quality meat is the star here, they don't use heavy rubs or seasonings, the beef tastes like beef, the pork tastes like pork and so on! That is the ART or true BBQ no secret recipes, no covert processes. You take an often less desirable cut of meat and turn it into something beautiful and delicious. Smoke is the main seasoning, so if you prefer a heavy crusted rub, go somewhere else. I consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, I have been grilling and smoking meat my whole life, and I know a thing or two about BBQ across the whole country, and I also hate it when people say "good BBQ for Utah"! one of my biggest peeves! you don't need to be in Kansas City, or Dallas to get great BBQ, BBQ is an art that anyone can master anywhere. read more
