Based only on one visit but I was not all that impressed. Okay. I was impressed w the guava cake, super fruity. Aside from that I felt it was all average. The Mac salad did have peas and carrots but pretty plain. The katsu chicken was pretty disappointing. It was pounded thin and overcooked. The breading was probably thicker than the chicken itself. I would go back to try something else if katsu isn't their thing but I'd rather hit one of the other Hawaiian places a few miles away.

My daughter got the teriyaki chicken plate lunch from this food truck today. She raved about how amazing it was after every bite. She did say the macaroni salad was a bit rich for her. The employee wore a mask and was super friendly, engaging my kids in conversation for awhile. Fast service too.

2 scoop rice, Mac salad, kalua pig and teriyaki chicken.

The food was flavorful and mouthwatering!! If I closed my eyes, I felt like I was eating a plate lunch in Hawai'i! The kalua pig tasted like it pulled out from an imu (Hawaiian underground oven) and the teriyaki sauce was perfection on the moist and tender chicken. The sides of rice and Mac salad completed this scrumptious feast! Traditional Hawaiian flavors elevated! As we ate, the owner/chef Keni came out to check on us and he was very kind and welcoming! You can't help but feel like ohana with his warm Aloha spirit! We LOVED the amazing food and enjoyed the ambience but next time I've gotta pace myself so I leave room for the guava cake!

Broke da mouth!!!! While en route to downtown SLC on a recent visit, I stumbled onto Keni's spot after seeing the great Yelp reviews. I've lived off island for nearly four years now, so anytime I'm here I make sure to get my Polynesian fix. My first visit to the Hungry Hawaiian was so amazing, I returned again on my way to the airport! HH so much better than other Hawaiian spots I've tried on previous visits--not only is the food more authentic, but Keni is funny, friendly, and pono. He definitely made me feel like I was back in the islands. On Day One, I had the two-meat plate--teriyaki chicken and kalua pork with white rice and a very ono mac salad. Keni says this salad, which doesn't skimp on flavor with its extra pepper and chunky veggies (peas and carrots), is his dad's recipe. (His dad just happens to be first cousin to the legendary surfer Eddie Aikau to boot!) The chicken is perfectly cooked, the sauces are terrific, and the pork was salty and melt-in-your-mouth delish. On Day Two, I came back for the incredible malasadas, which are Portuguese donuts with the most amazing guava dipping sauce. Helpful hint: If you take these malasadas to work or a party (or to the kind folks at the rental car return or airport), you will be the talk of the town! I made so many peoples' day from the car-rental drop off to security with those addicting fried pillows of heaven. If you know Leonard's in Honolulu, I guarantee you these will NOT disappoint, especially on a cold drizzly day like today. In addition to the malasadas, it was also my lucky day...Keni had lau lau pork (traditional leaf-wrapped protein) AND poi! It doesn't get much more authentic than dis! The best part? When I finally got to the airport after dropping the rental car, I went through security with my plate lunch and totally forgot about the poi, which is a thick dipping "sauce" made from taro. Guess what? The poi was so thick that TSA didn't even question it! Ha! Keni's place is warm and inviting with bright colors and Hawaiian music playing in the background (he has created his own playlist on Spotify, so check it out). They've only been open a few months but already have a loyal following and they also cater (definitely recommend HH for your next celebration!). I'm going to keep referring to this place as the Happy Hawaiian because not only is Keni one of the nicest guys around, but also, this food makes you, your soul, and your belly SO HAPPY! Check it out!

Food was a struggle to eat. Love to try different places for lunch but this place is at the bottom of places to eat.

Ahh unfortunately it was a let down :( I think I may have set really high expectations. I ordered the pork sandwich, mac salad, and spam musubi. I review restaurants with my OAT method: O= Overall experience - It's a food truck that had benches and chairs, but no umbrellas. It was super hot out and would have been nice to have some shade. We ended up waiting in a car and they just delivered the food to us. A= Appearance - It all looked super yummy! T= Taste - The pork was good, but the only downside with the sandwich was that the bun got soggy fast. I LOVE spam musubi, but this one had a greater ratio of rice to spam. Personally, I prefer it to be more even or spam heavy. The best part of it is was that it was hot and fresh! The mac salad was my favorite! A little trick I like to do for my mac is ask for a side of teriyaki sauce and mix it in.

I think the only bad thing I ever had there was the tortilla soup. It was always too salty. But the bowls, the burgers, everything else was always fresh and delicious. They sadly closed all Colorado locations and I thought I would never get to enjoy Rumbi again. That was until, my husband and a few of our friends decided to do a day trip out to Salt Lake City and I saw that there are Rumbi locations all over! We stopped in the the Bountiful location and I ordered my usual. The Hawaiian style chicken and a side of Rumbi fries. My husband decided to try something new and got the noodles instead of the Rumbi rice. Our meals arrived and his had veggies on it instead of the mac salad. He mentioned it to the lady at the counter and instead of just changing the veggies to to the mac salad they made a whole new dish, which took a while. He sat there waiting while the rest of us ate. He finally got his meal and the noodles were weird. They were overcooked and mushy and soaking in sauce. He was sad which his choice but understands he picked it. That was the only issue we had. Otherwise, mine tasted just like a remember it. I miss the Rumbi sauce with the fries and the yummy tangy teriyaki sauce on the tender slices of chicken. I really do wish they still had some locations in Colorado.
