Eureka, Ca has some good places to eat but in my opinion Vista Del Mar is a diamond in the rough. Situated in Old Town Eureka with plenty of parking this is a great spot for a cold one and a bite to eat. There is a bike/ walking trail that runs thru Old Town Eureka that makes this location walkable from old town, it's a beautiful walk along the waterfront of Eureka. We were greeted by a young man who sat us down and took drink orders,the menu here is not extensive, they are very good at what is on the menu We ordered Chicken Strips, Clam Chowder, Cuban Sandwich with fries, Fire Cracker Shrimp Tacos, the food was hot and fresh, the chicken strips we're beaded pretty heavy , the Cuban sandwich was good , but I must say, my wife gave me a bite of her shrimp tacos and they were great! I will be ordering the tacos next time. The atmosphere was upbeat and friendly, next time we come to Eureka we will be having lunch here, recommend the tacos read more

This place came recommended from a friend who lives locally. I'm a foodie constantly looking for great tasting food, and am sadly disappointed way too much. I was up here for a business trip, and was advised that this place was definitely something to check out. After a short walk from best western, the place struck me as a dive bar. I ended up ordering some chicken wings and a quesadilla. The wings were tiny, but the quesadilla was good. Prices were a little high for the quality. The staff was minimal. g/f Yelp'ed for a lunch spot while we were passing through Eureka. VdM was her choice and we followed the GPS directions to their location. I was a bit skeptical at first - although the parking lot was full, the exterior is a bit...weathered. But a look at the menu in the window made up our (my) mind to go in. While I don't recall much, g/f had the fish tacos and was quite pleased with them. I know I really enjoyed my meal but I've waited too long to complete this review to recall exactly what I'd had. Love Vista Del Mar! Great service, drinks, AND food! Firecracker tacos are my current obsession. Get one of each if you can't decide if you want fish or shrimp. Take out is a great option, too. Ambiance is that of a local watering hole. Come as you are and come often enough and you'll definitely run into regulars! Lots of parking. I, personally, wouldn't do a group bigger than 6 just because of the layout. read more

Had lunch with my wife and we very pleased. We we greeted and seated promptly and we ordered shortly thereafter. Her: Clam Chowder and Fish&Chips Me: Firecracker Shrimp and Fried Oysters and Chips My shrimp were quite cruchy on the ouside and very tender on the inside and the salsa that came with it was awesome! The oyster's batter coating was light and crispy, the oysters retained all their original flavor. My wife's fish and chips (that she grudginly shared with me) were equally well prepared. I love to hate this place....we are on the fence so much with these people....when they hit, it's awesome, but the misses make you not want to come back Today we show up at 12:45 and the service was pretty quick. Unfortunately, they were not serving brunch We knew the menu and ordered 2 drinks, potato skins as an appetizer and a chicken ceaser salad and the "special" breakfast burger. The drinks came out right away and they were good. However, the food took 35 minutes and the appetizer never made it to the table until after we were done with the entrees When the food was brought out, the waitress/bartender told us sorry and that there was only one cook today. I get it and it was pretty busy. I counted 25 customers and only her to help, so she was doing the best she could. The chicken ceaser salad, not terrible, but surprising, about twice as much chicken to salad?? It just threw the balance off. I ordered the breakfast burger "medium". As you will see in the pictures, it was black, bitter (like me at the moment) and burnt. The fries were good, however we did have to ask twice to get a cup of rance sauce for the fries. After were done and our plates pushed aside, the waitress, Billie, told us the potato skins were on their way out... Lol....she then brought them out and as you can see from the pictures, a little underwhelming.... As a side note, she did not charge us for the skins. All in all, I wish this place would tighten up the management. It's unrealistic to ask for one waitress/bartender and one cook to take on 25+ patrons in a small dive bar. Good food-Fast and friendly service! Ordered to go bc 21 and over. Ate at the pier. Everything crisp and tasty. Shrimp n'chips and fish n chips- geneous proportions. Grillled fish tacos nicely done. Crispy chicken good but I wanted a thicker crust (but that's me). Loves the fries. I think horseradish sauce was homemade (good kick). Good value. Bay Area would charge at least $4 more per entree. The Fish and Shrimp tacos were excellent! Service was great! In fact when we got there some locals saw us and asked if we would like their seats at the bar. If the locals love this place and they are this warm to visitors than this is a place I would like to come again to! I don't say this likely as I am spoiled to have been raised on Mexican food and lived in Oakland, San Jose, Chula Vista, Hemet and married into a Mexican family.
