My husband found a (non-yelp) review for this place that said they had the best fish and chips. It's located by the water but kinda away from everything else in an industrial part of town. We stopped by one afternoon to get food to-go. We had our dog with us but they don't have any outdoor seating. I didn't go in but my husband described it as a typical bar. There were even some creepy guys hitting on the bartender. Anyways about 15 minutes, he came back with our food, which we just ended up eating in the car, in the parking lot. Best to enjoy fried food right away. My fish and chips was a huge portion. 4 pieces of fish and the whole bottom of the take out container was filled with steak fries. Fries were alright. Not as hot as the freshly fried fish so maybe they sat out a bit. The fish was great - flakey and it has like an almost cornmeal crust. Bot beer battered like most other places. I liked it, as it gave it a bit of texture. But the crust was still a bit too thick for my liking. My hubby got the shrimp po boy with fries. The shrimps were huge and these seemed to be beer battered. It came with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and a relish mayo type sauce. He finished it quickly and seemed to really enjoy it. The wife and I were hungry for some nachos with bacon and found this place by the Eureka waterfront and Old Town Eureka. it was homemade chips with shredded cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños and sour cream which was delicious and scarfed it down. The place had a Halloween theme and pacific ocean clean atmosphere for the local hangout. The staff of maybe 3 people did an excellent job providing quick service, great food and nice choices of flowing beer taps. We would come back again next time we are back up to Nor Cal! read more

What went well? Everything. The wings are 20 out 10. I've had Everything on the menu and it's all been awesome. This is my favorite place to eat in all of Humboldt. Would have loved to try the food here, but not wheelchairs accessible. There was a motorcycle parked on the sidewalk into the restaurant. Not only is this some of the best food I've ever had, it was also some of the best service. It seems like more and more places have rude staff, this place gives me hope. There was 1 bartender who was also the entire waitstaff minus 1 gentleman who efficiently and quietly cleared plates when needed. The bartender was friendly, efficient, and managed the entire place in a way that made it seem effortless. The place was clean and comfortable and had a great vibe. Eureka, Ca has some good places to eat but in my opinion Vista Del Mar is a diamond in the rough. Situated in Old Town Eureka with plenty of parking this is a great spot for a cold one and a bite to eat. There is a bike/ walking trail that runs thru Old Town Eureka that makes this location walkable from old town, it's a beautiful walk along the waterfront of Eureka. We were greeted by a young man who sat us down and took drink orders,the menu here is not extensive, they are very good at what is on the menu We ordered Chicken Strips, Clam Chowder, Cuban Sandwich with fries, Fire Cracker Shrimp Tacos, the food was hot and fresh, the chicken strips we're beaded pretty heavy , the Cuban sandwich was good , but I must say, my wife gave me a bite of her shrimp tacos and they were great! Just ate dinner here for the first time. Couldn't decide between the shrimp po'boy or the firecracker shrimp tacos. Ended up with the tacos (hold the sriracha). They were amazing! Two huge shrimp breaded in panko, almonds and coconut. Fruity pico de gallo had apples and grapes in it along with red bell peppers and some jalapeños. Just be aware: every time we have visited, there has been just one incredible person taking orders, bartending and delivering orders for the entire place. Had lunch with my wife and we very pleased. We we greeted and seated promptly and we ordered shortly thereafter. Her: Clam Chowder and Fish&Chips Me: Firecracker Shrimp and Fried Oysters and Chips My shrimp were quite cruchy on the ouside and very tender on the inside and the salsa that came with it was awesome! The oyster's batter coating was light and crispy, the oysters retained all their original flavor. My wife's fish and chips (that she grudginly shared with me) were equally well prepared. I love to hate this place....we are on the fence so much with these people....when they hit, it's awesome, but the misses make you not want to come back Today we show up at 12:45 and the service was pretty quick. Unfortunately, they were not serving brunch We knew the menu and ordered 2 drinks, potato skins as an appetizer and a chicken ceaser salad and the "special" breakfast burger. The drinks came out right away and they were good. However, the food took 35 minutes and the appetizer never made it to the table until after we were done with the entrees When the food was brought out, the waitress/bartender told us sorry and that there was only one cook today. I get it and it was pretty busy. I counted 25 customers and only her to help, so she was doing the best she could. The chicken ceaser salad, not terrible, but surprising, about twice as much chicken to salad?? It just threw the balance off. I ordered the breakfast burger "medium". As you will see in the pictures, it was black, bitter (like me at the moment) and burnt. The fries were good, however we did have to ask twice to get a cup of rance sauce for the fries. After were done and our plates pushed aside, the waitress, Billie, told us the potato skins were on their way out... Lol....she then brought them out and as you can see from the pictures, a little underwhelming.... As a side note, she did not charge us for the skins. All in all, I wish this place would tighten up the management. It's unrealistic to ask for one waitress/bartender and one cook to take on 25+ patrons in a small dive bar.
