Eye exam
Trevor C.

Even with vision insurance glasses and eye exams are very expensive here. I'm near sighted and needed a yearly exam, the eye exam was $59 and one pair of glasses runs around $400. I purchased them about 3 months ago and recently I noticed the glass lens was coming out of the frame and there was a line that appeared in the glass and it cost me $40 to get them fixed.

Because my grown daughter wanted to go to just one store and not shop around for frames, I recommended Visionworks because they seem to have the largest selection. (They have an online virtual try on tool as well.) She was able to have her exam at the site, and I was surprised when they were ready within days! People were friendly and helpful even when I had been there on other occasions. Nothing to complain about.

Ask the Community - Visionworks

Can you just buy lenses for glasses you buy from somewhere else? I'm asking because some places require you to buy their glasses.

No you don't have to use their frames . You can buy your own frames and bring them in. I have done that.

Then upon having the exam, the doctor does a "refraction" (which is not covered by Medicare) and then hands me a printed result. I thought is was part of the service since they aggresively push you to buy glasses but they wanted $48 for something I did not request. I told the doctor that I thought it was manipulative and petty. More pettiness came when he wanted the printed result back which I handed back. After I left, I got a message from someone in the front office saying that she found insurance that covers the refraction (Bull S***) and then she sent the results back to me again. Very aggravating!!! So, if you are looking for eye care that is honest and doesn't suck, go somewhere else. I know that they really don't care very much but I write this review in order to try to save other people from such a bad experience.

That's best for folks working every weekday, like myself. I've been an Anesthesiologist for 40 years, and am very impressed & pleased with their entire staff: front desk, clerks, assistants, techs, and doctors. Sincerely grateful, John Paul Wright, M.D.

Turns out his office manager optician got the wrong pupillary distance and that threw everything off. I had to bring them an accurate PD from another eye doctor before they would remake them. Before that he made me come in for another eye exam and when it was slightly different he berated me for wasting his time. They wasted my time and I found out later that it's normal to have slight variations in vision exams based on the time of day, fatigue etc. The issue was not my eye exam; the issue was the pupillary distance. I think he didn't want to lose any money remaking the glasses so instead of just doing that he thought he would attack me until I gave up and stop telling them I couldn't see out of the glasses. This is the dark side of this office that you won't see until someone screws something up. I didn't know anything about pupillary distance or eye exam variation or anything because I never been to a place where I experienced something like this. If his office manager, who I see from some other reviews has been rude to other people as well, had not measured my PD wrong none of this would have ever happened and I would have just thought he was a great guy and it was a great office. But as the saying goes, customer service begins when something goes wrong. They messed up and they bullied me. It was a horrible experience.

Long story short, the vision insurance sucked bad so I canceled it and went back to Affinity where I pay out-of-pocket (note, they do accept insurance, but they just weren't covered on my terrible/obscure vision plan). ANYWHO, the office is lovely. Feels almost "posh" when you're in the waiting room. The front dest staff are friendly and personable and the doctors are kind and knowledgable. The equipment is all new, nice, and properly functioning (because I've totally been to places with the fancy new equipment....but it doesn't work so they still rely on archaic methods for assessing vision). The only thing I don't like is how they REALLY try to make you buy your lenses/contacts from them. Honestly, though, that's how all vision places seem to be so I guess that's the norm - must be where the real money is in the business. But they're nice enough. I always decline their lenses/frames and just take my prescription to Costco (cheapest in town - even cheaper than the online sites!) Moral of the story - I'm happy to be back as a customer at Affinity! I'll never stray again!
