I chose this location as it is closer and they are open on Saturdays. It's a small office, but they had some decent higher end selection of glasses. The eye doctor was nice and quickly did an exam, but I didn't appreciate the diabetes lecture. If I wanted that, I would've visited my mom. Unfortunately, nobody contacted me that my glasses were ready for pick up. It had been three weeks! I spent A LOT of money on my glasses and that is really disappointing and unacceptable service. read more

Dr Sharon Peterson at the east side location is terrific but only does eye exams Wed/Thur. The price is a bit of a mystery. If you book via their answering service (option 1) you're going to get some oddball (lower) price (which Alvernon "might" still honor, or might not). Note that their "real price" is an eye-popping $108 for exams, so be warned when shopping/comparing their actual fee with other optometrists! Staff is pleasant but do a heavy pitch to buy glasses from them. Frame options are decent but (especially for men) could be better. Parking is easy and hours are good (until 6pm plus half days Saturday). read more

Have spent thousand and thousands of dollars on prescription optics - regular and sun glasses, progressives - for 2 people. Thousands. And more thousands. We care about our eyesight. And thought doing business with a locally owned/run company was the way to go. So ... a pair of eyeglasses got scratched, oops your warranty ran out 6 weeks ago. Of course the company NEVER provides a receipt showing what you've bought and how much it cost. So had no idea missed it by such a short time. And also can't PROVE how many thousands we've put into this place ... and they keep changing computer/financial/records systems so they don't have a record (so they say...) Too bad, so sad sucker. All around great experience for the past two years. The Doctor and staff are all courteous and professional. However, Nadia is the reason I go back. She is the best optician I have ever encountered. She has a gift of being able to see just what type of adjustment is needed and executes it flawlessly. The other thing I appreciate about Nadia is her ability to help select a frame that works well for my face. She will allow you to make your own decision while being honest in her feedback. Since I have to wear my glasses daily, I appreciate an objective perspective. She will not steer you wrong! Referencing the recent one star review - My new glasses have arrived each time within two weeks. I don't mind the wait... I've had to wait about the same at other major retailers. The ones who do make same day eyeglasses do not usually carry the lenses I need on site - so I still have to wait. Staff is almost overly cautious understandably with wearing masks yet I don't see anyone wiping down the door handles or chairs or desks. I felt a little uncomfortable. The glasses sales lady told me what she would be ordering for my daughter and tacked on a bunch of stuff I didn't want. I had to MAKE SURE I knew my benefits and know what I wanted. Otherwise I would probably be paying tons for stuff I didn't need. Staff was ok. This one lady kept giving me a Karen vibe, and was kind of rude, but everyone else was nice. Eye doctor was very nice. The price of glasses was mostly above 170 which my insurance covers $150 you have to look in the discounted section then it's about 170 and down. Not a big selection of glasses. read more

First of all the staff and doctors are very nice. The problem is if you order your lenses from them they have to send them away to the East Coast, which takes 3 weeks. I suppose that is ok for some but others who need new prescription glasses right away, and the correction is major, you now have to function for 3 weeks without the right glasses which in my case was dangerous to be on the road. Luckily nothing happened to me but I will never get my glasses there again, I asked them why they couldn't find a place in Phoenix to do this ( and you know Phoenix has a lab somewhere), and I just got blank stares. After many, many weekends of hitting up optical places around T-town, we finally found the mecca of optical-ness. This is the place where great service meets up with great selection/prices for the ultimate eyeglass buying experience. For a small store they have a rather large selection of cool frames at seriously reasonable prices. They have some designer frames, some run of the mill frames and some unusual, won't-find-anywhere-esle frames. The lenses are some of the most advanced that the eyeglass world has to offer. On this occasion we were shopping for the husband. We narrowed it down to 4 frames and then engaged the staff to help make the final selection. They offered advice on fit and style, durability and how the frame would work with his prescription. Overall helpful and friendly and just a joy to work with. I did wander over to the girly frames a couple of time and the selection there was just as good. I've got my eye on a couple options for this summer. They said it would take up to 14 days for the finished product but called within a week. This made the husband super happy since he was able to pick them up before we went out of town for the Memorial Day weekend. Is your prescription out of date? No problem. There is an optician on site so go ahead with picking out the perfect frames and set an appointment for the exam. We bought frames here several years ago as well, but somehow over time I had forgotten about the selection they offered. I recall that buying experience was just as good as this time around. I moved to Tucson last March and before that, had been going to the same optometrist since I was a kid so getting a good one out here was important. I've been really happy with Alvernon Optical so far. Clean office with really friendly staff members. The frames I've been fitted for have been awesome and my vision is as good as ever. Complete waste of time. They became angry when I asked for a copy of their HIPAA policy (after requiring me to sign a statement that I received it), and refused to continue with the eye exam when I pointed out that they were not following CDC recommendations with their mask policy. They were very rude the entire time, kept talking over me, and of course wasted my time with an appointment that they arbitrarily canceled. I am thinking that they must be Democrats. read more

Went in for eye exam wonderful service, provider said I should get eyes dilated so agreed told 20mins. Eyes dilated after 10 while in waiting room and provider had taken in another patient without telling me that she would. I was there for 45 minutes and not feeling well with headache/migraine because the outside store area very loud with phones and many people talking and walking around. Finally gave up and went home. Had to pay for a procedure/exam that was never completed. Be sure or aware of what is going to happen before you agree to the dilation procedure because you may be at the office for much longer then expected not the 15-20minutes it takes for the drops to take effect and you will not be informed. read more

The eye dr was very warm, welcoming & informative. This was the first time where I got a pair of glasses that I felt was really going to work for me and not just be a necessary but irritating accessory. I was a bit nervous to begin with knowing ahead of time I was going to need bifocals at the very least. They could have very easily taken advantage and recommend a ton of added "essentials" but they did not. As a matter of fact they let me know when I inquired about trifocals for computer use that although they would work for me, at the level my eyesight had changed ( for the worse) I would probably be much happier with the bifocals and could avoid the unnecessary extra cost for progressive lenses which made me extremely happy as I could then use the extra money for transitional lenses as I am light sensitive (which can be a pain living in the desert if you like being outside all the time as I do. The lady that helped fit my glasses was friendly and very accomodating. She also let me know any time I needed them adjusted, they do it at no charge! (Which I have already taken them up on) I took one star off only for the attitude of their one male salesperson whose attitude was so poor, it almost ruined the entire experience for me. Almost. Everyone else was just that awesome and even though they said 2 weeks to get my glasses, they called in a week! read more

I went to alvernon optical on Campbell Ave. The lady, Sharon, took my glasses & somehow dipped them in acetone; which pretty much ruined my frame. She apologized & offered to give me a free frame w/ purchase of lenses (after I expressed how disappointed I was). I calmed down & looked around, found a pair- but couldn't get my Rx in that frame/manufacturer. I looked some more when she started asking me for my SSN or DOB! I needed glasses not a home loan!! Either way I was fed up & just wasn't getting a good vibe from her & I walked out. I'm NEVER going back there. Beware of handing your glasses over! They may ruin them!! UPDATE: After my above description was read by the management of Alvernon Optical I was refunded the full amount my glasses cost me & received their apology. You can tell a lot about a firm when things don't go right ~ ultimately this company has done right by me. Maybe it was just a bad day for this salesperson or a lack of cross-training to the store. If you are sensitive to fragrance, do not go to the store at Campbell and Glenn. I entered the store and noticed the smell right away. I had to cancel my eye exam because being there for just 10 seconds triggered a migraine headache! I called the manager at the main office to complain and he said they use fragrances at all their locations. He added that they could unplug the room freshener one day before my appointment. They obviously don't understand how harmful these room fresheners are to patients who are sensitive to chemicals. I won't be back. read more

My son damaged his only pair of glasses today. I was desperate to find a repair shop that could fix them the same day. After a Google search, I found this business. The staff was very friendly and Jordan got to work on them right away. They were fixed in 20 minutes for a very reasonable price! Horrible experience here. Went in for an exam and new glasses Feb 2017, the exam was handled in a very superficial manner, not in depth at all. They were more interested in reading the prescription from my existing glasses than determining their own. The person doing the fitting and ordering of new glasses seemed not very knowledgable at all, was dressed in a very unprofessional manner, and seemed to have zero interest in actually serving the customer. I was specific in my request for a scratch resistant coating and paid a fairly high amount for that coating. When my glasses arrived the prescription was horribly wrong, I formed a horrible headache and strain in my eyes within minutes, I couldn't read anything. They insiisted that I wear the glasses for a week or two to allow my eyes to acclimate, I've been wearing glasses for 50 yeats and have never needed to acclimate to new lenses. After several days they did very reluctantly agree to another exam and new lenses, these arrived and I was able to see satisfactory, however the lenses began to scratch within 1 month, especially the left lense, using the cleaning kit that they provided. When I called to inquire about a warranty replacement I was informed that there was no warranty, no warranty on a 1 month old $700 pair of glasses. Rediculous. So, I have since had to purchase another pair of glasses elsewhere, and will never set foot in an Alvernon Optical again, as well as I have been informing all that I know of the poor experience. read more
