Rather than tell me before I arrived or even after I arrived, I was told after waiting to be seen by the Dr that they didn't take my insurance. I could have been notified before I took an hour off work and driving time that my insurance wasn't accepted. I asked why my paperwork wasn't reviewed when received and was told that they do review it. I don't have any time off to waste like this and finally got upset enough to write this review. They should have reviewed my paperwork before I arrived so I could cancel the appointment. It did seem, based on statements made, that I could pay 100% out of pocket. Why in the world would I do this if I have good vision insurance? Just be honest and let me know as soon as possible that they don't take my insurance.

And she took the time to understand the needs of my "middle-aged" eyes with a complicated prescription. I started with a pair of computer glasses, and intend to go back for a pair of driving glasses. From Susanna, who fitted my new glasses, to the young lady behind the reception desk, all were professional, welcoming, and helpful.

I noted on my intake that I have controlled Sjogrens Syndrome and allergies, which is why I use a certain brand over the other. No big deal. The exam went fine, everything went well. Until the end. I was told after paying that I wouldn't be given the contacts prescription I paid for and was just given the glasses prescription. Why? Because I have an autoimmune disorder and the optometrist wanted to "know I followed up." I have a PCP, I have a specialist, I have my own health under control. If she didn't see any issues with my eyes and I had no complaints, charging me for a service and then not providing the prescription is theft. I called in later to see what information they needed from my doctor for the prescription and I was told they actually WILL give it to me.....over fax. Still hasn't been faxed. I'm very confused as to why I entered a chain optometrist and still have not received what I paid for and then dealt with bad service through and through. This wasn't inexpensive, was completely out of pocket and I still need new contacts. Waste of time and money. Do not go here. Edit: So after calling them dozens of times, emailing Walmart Corporate, sending a medical release, calling them again, calling Walmart Contacts, calling Walmart.com and speaking to the optometrist herself, they sent........my eyeglasses prescription. Though I was charged for and PAID FOR a contacts prescription on the first day of December. Definitely forwarding a complaint to the higher ups about this store. Wow.

Dr. Tran is one of the nicest and most able medical professional I have ever encountered. With an office located in the Arundle Mill Costco, each visit is a breeze from a logistical standpoint. Her assistant is wonderful as well and really makes setting up an appointment very easy. I am not sure if the office takes insurance for regular eye exams (standard glasses and/or contact lenses) but the price is reasonable at $100 for my son's contact lens exam. Dr. Tran uses some of the latest equipment to conduct the exam. It looks like some futuristic Jetson's type stuff but it is very effective. However, what sets her apart from other Optometrists is that she always pulls out the the tried and true tools of the profession to check everything out. We never feel rushed with her and she listens to all of our concerns. Just a wonderful experience ensuring my son's vision is correct. She allays any nervousness or anxiety, especially in younger patients. Highly recommend Dr. Tran and her office. Five highly visible stars!!!

The staff is not very competent, and more importantly lazy. They failed to find the VSP coverage that was active, and when they couldn't they kicked the responsibility to the patient and make the patient do their jobs. Rx check, which is the responsibility of the OD, is pawned off to the tech who does not have the clinical scope to do anything about the errors in Rx. This is done to reduce doctor's chair time, and it does not serve the patients well. I don't even know if these techs are licensed. Knowing what I know, I questioned their practices. When I did, I was met with super passive-aggressiveness and they tried to charge me for the Rx check that was covered under the VSP. VSP can help to accommodate many varying situations (like a pandemic), but this office was not even willing to try. I have spent many hours talking to VSP. They have NO intentions of doing so for their patients. This office will take advantage of you if you don't know what your rights are. If you do, then they try to weed you out by making your life difficult. This is not how you advocate for patients, and not how you run a clinic. However, it maybe a shrewd business tactic. You as a consumer and a patient, have the option of what you choose to accept as a standard of care.

They regularly interrupt me while I'm speaking on the phone, use an outright disrespectful tone, and place me on hold for 10 minutes or more almost every time I call. Insurance and billing communication is a mess. No one at the front desk seems to understand insurance coverage or pricing, and I was given incorrect cost estimates for both a 6-month and 1-year supply of contacts. It took roughly seven phone calls just to get accurate information, which is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, my last two eye exams resulted in incorrect prescriptions. I continued to see blurry even while wearing the prescribed contacts, which meant unnecessary follow-up visits and wasted time. The doctors themselves are patient and pleasant, but the front desk staff and administrative disorganization overshadow any positive aspects of this practice. I truly hope administration seriously retrains their staff on professionalism, patience, and appropriate tone when speaking with patients, because as it stands, this experience is not one I would recommend.

    My 3 kids and I have been patients here since 2020/2021 so we've seen the staff change…read more First off, I want to gatekeep Dr Ma for all she's worth. LOL it's ALWAYS a pleasure visiting her. She's EXTREMELY kind and patient with my bajillion questions. I've only seen Dr Ma so I cannot speak about the other doctors. Prior to the staff changing, I only liked 2 staff members. Scheduling with them and getting pick up notifications weren't smooth. Some orders just weren't submitted. But I've previously worked in the medical offices (cardiologist and ophthalmologist offices in NY) to know how busy, demanding and overwhelming it could be. So I try to book in advance and be more patient & understanding ESP during pandemic months. When it came to problems, I would see that sometimes it was the previous staffs errors, and sometimes it were rude patients causing issues. Again, all of this is in regards to the PREVIOUS STAFF. But one day, I noticed the 2 staff members I liked both stopped coming in. I don't like change but I was crossing my fingers for a new efficient staff. So from the new staff members, I primarily received help from Charmayen, Shantera (I can't remember if I spelled it right) & Mya. LET ME TELL YOU THAT I WANT TO HOG THESE 3 STAFF MEMBERS ALL TO MYSELF! I love them. Absolute pleasure working with them. My insurance isn't so friendly with their software. But Charmayen waves her magic wand and gets me in and out super quick. She never brushes me over because it's more work. She takes the time to make sure I'm getting all the vision benefits and making sure I'm saving tons of money. Honestly they're such good people that whether it took hours or not, I wouldn't mind. Very caring, polite, funny, efficient ladies. I never had issues with them. They took the time to educate my kids as they started wearing contacts this summer. They were so patient while my kids were struggling to put the contacts in. I have ZERO complaints about the new staff. I do not call the visionworks general number nor book online. Whenever I'm at the store or in the area, I'll schedule with them in person WAY~ in advance bc I know how the medical facilities work. Again, I only had issues with the old staff. The new staff members are dolls. A lot of the customers now are really impatient and demand far more than needed. Idk if the new staff have issues with customers but to those visiting this location, please be patient and be kind to the front desk and workers.

    I am writing this review to warn other customers, especially those using Medicaid or other vision…read moreinsurance plans, to ask very specific questions before agreeing to any exam or service. My son had an appointment for a routine eye exam and glasses. Before the appointment, Visionworks was aware of his insurance coverage and what benefits were included. After the visit, we discovered that a contact lens exam had also been performed and billed, resulting in additional out-of-pocket costs. My son's understanding was that he was there for a standard eye exam and glasses. He does not wear contacts and was not seeking contact lenses. Visionworks may claim that the service was discussed or authorized, but at minimum the communication was unclear enough that he left believing he was receiving only the exam he came in for. The frustrating part is that the contact lens exam fee is non-refundable. Had it been made absolutely clear that an additional service with an additional charge was being added, we would have declined it immediately. My advice to anyone going here: do not assume the exam being performed is only the one you scheduled. Specifically ask whether a contact lens exam is being added and whether it will create any additional charges. Get a clear answer before the exam begins. Whether this is an intentional business practice or simply poor communication, the result is the same: customers can leave an appointment facing charges for services they did not realize they were receiving. That should not happen.
