I have been using Vision Works ever since I started working for State University of New York Research Foundation. I moved up there to Albany in early 2013. They offer an outstanding vision plan of glasses and eye exam every two years. I generally make sure I get my renewal done in time, but with remote work and all, I postponed it. I have been working remote from my Austin bunker. I found out that my insurance covers out of state vision works and seeing as I really needed an update, I made an appointment. The Mueller office is awesome. The eye doctor is next door which makes it convenient. See my separate review on eye masters. Any ways, I went in last week to get new glasses. I finally opted with the progressive lenses... yes I am getting old. The service provider was outstanding. We needed to figure out my insurance since NY and TX. He was so patient and got it done. In the end I got a great deal on new prescriptions and progressive lenses. I just picked them up today only a week later after my follow up with Dr. Maybury next door. Was so convenient. The glasses are great. Will take some time to adjust to the progressive lenses as I see online. They were very helpful and I am so excited to have a Doctor of Optometry and a lens associate next door. Vision works is the best in my humble opinion. read more

The optometrist and staff are very friendly. We had an insurance problem with one visit. The staff took care of it efficiently.

Another terrible experience. I broke my frames so I went in to ask if they could be repaired. I was told that this type of break wasn't covered by the warranty and probably couldn't be fixed anyway. They told me I would need a new frame as well as lenses. Since these are progressives, and very expensive, I was really concerned. They gave me the business card of a local frame repair shop so I was going to try that. Then I decided to try a different Visionworks location. I went to the shop at Arbor Walk. Juan took out his tools, gently put the glasses back together, adjusted them, cleaned them and gave them back. Told me that if I need them again I knew where to find them. It took him five minutes. We went into this location on 4th of July right around 3pm. The woman working couldn't find my partner's insurance info in their system so she asked him to tell her his social security number (out loud) for her so she could type it in. Super sketchy especially since there were other customers in the store that could overhear. Really hope he doesn't get his identity stolen. After that when we were looking for glasses we got no help from either associate. Ended up leaving even though we found the pair we wanted to buy just because we got no help from the staff. read more

I could go Into detail about how rude and condescending the woman working there was, but it's just not worth my time. However the gentleman that I didn't interact much with seemed very nice. Here's the thing. This place is fine if you don't expect to need any follow-up service or if you assume that nothing goes wrong with your order. And I agree that they are perfectly nice and enthusiastic when you come in to buy a pair of frames, when things are easy for them and a sale is imminent. But I ordered a pair of glasses last summer and it took something like 7 weeks for the frames to come in. That's a long time, and you would think they would be contacting me periodically to let me know the status. Especially because I told them I had no backup pair of glasses (so nothing I could use in the meantime). Instead, I had to drag them "kicking and screaming" to get any information on the status of the frames. I had to call them daily even after the owner/manager promised me multiple times that he would call me after receiving shipments to let me know if they had to come in. It's like I had to resort to borderline threats. They finally gave me the frames for free because their whole blunder was so ridiculous, but I would rather have paid for them and not had to spend 7 weeks of my life on this BS. Also, their lenses are only guaranteed for 30 days (!) So if they get scratched 31 days after you buy them, you have to pay $120 for new ones. Save yourself the grief and just order from Warby Parker, who guarantee their lenses for a full year. read more

The staff does not handle stress well and is not efficient. We waited two hours to order frames. And had the "full" attention of the employee. There is a clear imbalance of business organization and it affects the customer experience. Their computer systems are archaic and the management frustrated and frazzled. The staff here is nearly always rude, and talk down to patients. No one is held accountable for mistakes that were made. I spent time over numerous phone calls trying to correct an order they erroneously placed. The information on their end was never documented, so we had to go over the story over and over again with each new person. read more

Update; if I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this place like the plague! If you have insurance the eye wear provider will call them and verify it, as Visionworks did when I first went there 8 days ago. Once its "verified" your insurance carrier authorizes the caller (in this case, Visionworks) and they alone to fill the service. Now, in my case I decided not to buy anything from Visionworks due to their sleazy confusing highball-price pressuring practices (read original review). So, when I left I told them I wasn't going to get anything from them. They however, never told the insurance company, so when I went to another eyewear store later that same day they said I wasn't eligible for coverage since my annual benefit had already been applied to Visionworks. No problem, right? I'll just call Visionworks and tell them AGAIN I am not buying anything from them and they need to release the authorization. This takes them less than a minute if they know how to use a phone. Do you know how to use a phone Visionworks? I called Visionworks the same day and asked them to do that. I told the clerk who answered the phone exactly what I needed: "Confused" would be too generous a word for his response. He stammered some things, and then said I need to put you on hold. He did. For over ten minutes. He never picked up again. So much for that. Monday morning I called back at 9:57 am and got a recording, we're not open blah blah blah. Cool; I call back at ten after ten and get someone in the "lab". I explain exactly what I want - just call the carrier and tell them you're not filling the order. He too is confused but swears he's taking down all the info and will give it to the folks in "retail" because they need to do that. OK; whatever. Then he says "I'll have them call you if there's any problem." I said no, this is the third time I've told you guys what I need, and nothing's happened. Have them call me either way. Two days later, nothing has happened and no one has called. I try the store one last time and explain to yet a third person what I need and also tell them my next message is to the corporate office since they obviously can't get it together locally. She swears it will be taken care of. Two days later, nothing has changed. So, I'm making my insurance carrier cancel this now (they want me to do it - uh, I tried). I suppose for a store they might deserve three or four stars, but for a place I would shop, one star is fine. I'll compromise with two. They're conveniently located near my home, and I really just needed a pair of frames with an updated prescription. I had to chose from a typical selection of frames (it's like a wall of the exact same!), and from what I could tell, all were made in China. I'd like at least one or two options that match my philosophy toward labor equality. Service was decent, but I felt rushed and bullied into purchasing a particular set of frames (and then another one! Half priced!). I really didn't get much description of my lens options, which is strange because I've had clerks go through all the options available with me at that location in the past. I didn't particularly like the frames I ended up with, but compared to every other frame in the store, they were the least heinous. I had a weird feeling during the entire interaction and by the end of the transaction it was just ridiculous. I didn't feel like they had my best interest in mind. Assembly line eyewear. This is a story about how excellent customer service makes for a great Yelp review. Of course, this is counter to the typical trend on Yelp, where bad, bad service from some misanthropic troll can yield vengefully low ratings and self-righteously indignant reviews. I went to this VisionWorks on a Sunday afternoon to select some eyeglasses. When my wife and I got there, hardly any other customers were in the store. After spending a bit of time selecting frames, however, the place was packed. We were asked to wait at a table, and that someone would be with us in a few moments. And so we waited. And waited. Then we waited some more. To be sure, who could predict a flood of customers on a Sunday afternoon, but like most self-important Americans, I loathe waiting. At this Visionworks I was seeing red on a Sunday afternoon. Finally, a sales person came to out table. His name was Lamar. Despite my clearly pissed off look -- and I was staring daggers -- he put on a friendly face. Then we started talking eyewear. This discussion is where the experience changed for the better. Lamar did a great job explaining the available eyeglass options, as well as how the store discounts compared to what my insurance plan offers. He answered all of my questions, and made arrangements for me to get my new glasses as soon as possible. Lamar was personable and friendly throughout, and by the end of the sale, I was feeling good about the whole experience. I was also happy with the eyeglasses that I selected, and looked forward to joining the legions of four-eyed peoples walking this planet. While the great customer service certainly contributes to my five star rating, I'd like to add that the selection and overall store quality add to this rating. read more

I went here for glasses and contacts and got a good discount for having my insurance. I worked solely with the general manager of the store. He helped me as soon as I walked in after my eye exam and he even helped me pick out frames, which wasn't necessary but nice. Once I found some I really liked (designer frames, what can I say?) he sat down me with me and we went through my lens options (no glare, polycarbonate, etc.). Then he showed me everything itemized and I felt like I was getting a good deal. I came back one hour later to pick up my prescription glasses and get them fitted. This other sales associate (I think the only other male working there.. he was black, okay?? I can't recall anyone's names at this place but I want you to know who I'm talking about) gave me my glasses and just stood there like I'm just supposed to take them and leave. Of course I need them fitted! This process always takes a while but I felt like he felt like it was a burden to him and he was kind of making them more crooked. The manager (who wasn't on the floor when I arrived) came over and finished my fitting. I left very satisfied and love my new glasses. I went back yesterday to pick up my contacts (I don't even really want them anymore but they're helpful for sports) and absolutely no sales associate was on the floor when I arrived, only two other customers. I wait for a couple of minutes and the same man comes from the back to answer the ringing phone, tells me to have a seat, and takes the phone call. I get my lenses after a few minutes but all I'm saying is some of these sales associates do not have good customer service techniques and could honestly be better at their job. If you get the general manager, you'll be well taken care of. read more

Mom was happy with the pair of glasses that she found, they had great promotions going on, the cherry on top was their excellent customer service. Walked in and there was one staff member working, and one customer in the store. I waited less than 5 minutes and the customer said "go help him, i'll go look a frames". I just wanted to grab a simple pair of frames from the wall for some reading glasses, so I gave my prescription to the staff and he had to call to verify my insurance. Well, 6 other people walk in, and he starts helping everyone else. It seemed like every time a new person came in, they would just help the new person and forget about everyone else. A second staff member finally showed and started to verify my insurance, but would start helping other people as well. And the phone calls, the phone wold ring, and they would answer the phone and help them. Long calls, not just short answers. After 40 minutes in the store, I finally asked if there was a better time where more staff would be there to help, and he just said "sorry sir" I have gone to both Sam's and Wal-Mart looking for glasses and was helped immediately. I go to VisionWorks because my wife got her glasses there, and I thought the service would be good, but I was dead wrong. Now, reading the other reviews, I'm wondering if there will be a hold on my insurance now that VisionWorks called. read more

Went here to look for glasses frames... Not the greatest customer service. There were two gentlemen that were manning the store on this Sunday afternoon. They said "hi" and acknowledged my presence.... But other than that, nothing. No offers to assist me in finding frames for me or anything. And I was the only customer in the store at the time. Every other glasses store (vision works or other company), the workers have always offered to help narrow down frames for me. Yes, I could have asked for assistance, but when it's your store and you're selling a product, you should be more perceptive of your customers. read more

My 4-year-old son needed his first pair of glasses. We spent the day going around to different shops and found that most of them didn't have much to offer for his age. This place had a surprisingly large selection for him, and at reasonable prices. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. He's 4, and is rough on the glasses, so we've been back several times over the months to get the glasses adjusted, replace a lost retainer band, etc, and they are always helpful. There's one lady who works there who always remembers my kids. This is part of a big chain, so my expectations were low, but they have really blown me away. read more
