I found them on the list of places that my insurance covered. I was able to schedule something for the following Saturday at a time that worked for me. I just needed an exam since it was 5 years since my last post Lasik. the doctor was thorough as i was worried about my dry eyes. The tech that took me through all the machines should've ensured i verified my name and date of birth because she used the wrong patient. so i had do redo the retina machine again. i caught the mistake because i looked at the screen in the room and noticed it wasn't my name nor my DOB. doctor was knowledgeable. Supporting staff seemed to be off they are nice though. I waited 10 minutes for the printer to print an invoice. I was also told that i did not have vision coverage on my health plan and would have appreciated a phone call to discuss that or give me time to figure that out before arriving at the appointment. It was $145 out of pocket. read more

I recently visited Anderson Lane Vision Source (was a "former" client of Arboretum Eye Professionals). The communication aspects of this "merge" that was made between Optometry offices was very confusing--it was very abrupt and I was uncertain if I needed to do anything extra aside from just book an appointment at the new location. I'll assume it was a one-time/could-have-been-better-executed occurrence. I had scheduled my appointment about 2 weeks before the scheduled date and had no issues with their online system. There was a lot of availability. My Doctor was Ngocanh Pham--she was very professional and efficient. She answered all of my questions and gave me a lot of assurance in the health of my eyes. I'll continue returning for my eye health needs! Would definitely recommend them. read more

I've been going here for 3 years but in 2024 after their merger into a larger group practice things have changed. The office management is inexcusable. Using their online appointment scheduler, I made an appointment for 3/20 and it was confirmed 2/26 via email. 5:24 pm the day before my scheduled appointment I receive a voicemail that I "attempted" to make an appointment "during the doctor's lunch hour" (which is apparently at 1 pm) and I need to reschedule. When I call their provided phone number I receive an outdated message stating their office is closed through February 6 for renovations, and I can't leave a message because their voicemail box is full. read more

TREVOR-optician Trevor is the best! I have Glaucoma so its difficult for me to work out all the details with my vision and glasses. I took advantage of a special where you bought one pair of glasses and got the second one at half off. It's been wonderful having glasses in the car and at home and the ease of knowing I have a pair with me at all times. Trevor worked with me several times to figure out the best fit and weight of the new glasses, the best look and the appropriate bifocal line. I've gone here for a few years now and they have always been great, but today they went above and beyond. I accidentally crushed my glasses and on a hope and a pray I went there and Trevor was able to fix them enough that I could wear them. The staff was perfect, I'll start with that! Super friendly, informative, etc. - everything you'd want to experience. My two star rating is the result of having to leave without being seen due to wait time. As a busy professional myself, I rely on punctuality. (we make an appointment for a reason, right?) If you're able to spend time waiting, then I'd imagine the doctor is probably good if they're anything like their staff! Unfortunately for me, waiting more than 15min past appointment time just isn't an option when trying to fit something into a lunch break. Disappointing. read more

what is going on!! no answer when I call, I ordered sunglasses for vacation but can't get them

Just a weird vibe. Not off to a great beginning... Showed up on time, filled out paperwork and waited over 20 min with no greeting, no news from anyone. I browse the frames - I can't do contacts, I'm a frame guy - for a while. I'm obviously interested. No help. I sit some more. Then a 3-min perfunctory exam with a tech who did not introduce herself or have a smile. More waiting. The the eye exam with the doctor. Not cold, but not warm and not friendly. Weirdly, he asks me at the end of the exam 'what'd you come in for?' Uh, to get my tires rotated? Just a weird unfun experience. I won't bother them again. read more

We've been going to Anderson Lane Vision Source two years now and the optometrists are fine and competent but the optician Nicole is the store's greatest asset. Nicole has helped my teenage boys pick out glasses twice now, making the process enjoyable for moody teenagers. My boys leave smiling and happy. Nicole can also work magic on their glasses after they lose the eye pad, bend the frame, or bend the hinge. I thought my son's last pair of glasses were not salvageable but stopped at the store as my last ditch effort to save them. Save them Nicole did! I'm very pleased with their initial services AND their support later. read more

I had a routine eye exam here back in January. Got my prescription but never got new glasses. Fast forward to the Texas summer and me squinting like it's going out of style, and I had a lightbulb moment: prescription sunglasses! I decided to order a pair from FramesDirect.com as I've previously had a good buying experience with them. I needed my prescription so that I could place my order. Enter Anderson Lane Optical. I call them up and ask them for my prescription. The receptionist says sure, and asks me to confirm my mailing address. I tell her I've moved and she takes down the new mailing address and says she'll drop it in the mail. All good so far. Then I say "can you read the prescription to me?". That way, I can place my order now and not lose a week waiting for it in the mail. She says "nuh uh. We don't do THAT." I asked if it was against their policy, to which she replied "no, it's not a policy, we just don't do that." My interest is now piqued - this woman doesn't know what the word "policy" means. Why, pray tell, do you not read a prescription on the phone, ALO? After more prodding, the receptionist says she cannot read the prescription over the phone because what if I'm not who I say I am? Well, in that case, why did you allow me to change the address on my account to begin with? You certainly didn't authenticate me. I explained that my previous optician was happy to share the information - what kind of trouble can I really cause with a sequence of numbers? There are very few times in life that I'm rendered speechless but this was certainly one of them. When you can't appeal to someone with logic or a well-reasoned argument, there's really not much else you can do. Things got heated and the receptionist started yelling at me. I asked for the store manager's name to which she said "Jeannette" and when I inquired about Jeannette's last name, she said "I'm not going to tell you". What kind of scam operation are you running, Anderson Lane Optical? What on earth did you think I was going to do with Jeannette's last name? After this craptacular service experience, I logged on to trusty Yelp to read other people's reviews and was not surprised at the shoddy ratings this place got, specifically due to the support staff. I'm middle-of-the-road on this place. In past years I've gone to a different place and had a bit of trouble with my prescription. So I'm impressed that I've had no complaints since I got lenses prescribed by Anderson Lane Optical. On the other hand, I tried twice to get information about lenses, but they wouldn't tell me much more than lens name and price. Try Gene Rogers Optical for good lens recommendations and excellent help choosing frames. So, 5 stars for the docs, 1 star for the frames and lenses department. read more

Lifesavers!!! I woke up this morning and put on my glasses to realize a part fell out of the frames that help keep them on my face. Reaching for my contacts... only one!?!? So, I made it through work and got over to the office just in time to catch Hector and Sandra. Thank God! Sandra, who helped me pick out my frames and I love btw remembered me when I walked in, was eager help me. Not only did Sandra help fix my frames on the spot, Hector hooked me up with a spare contact lens set for an event tomorrow while I wait for my contact order to come in. I was greeted by a most cheerful receptionist and was seen promptly. Sandra, the friendly and chill Optician, led me through the preliminary tests with ease and with humor. This is the second time I have seen Dr. Mark Schaper. I felt like I received another thorough eye examination. He takes his time and is open to answering questions and explaining things, which I appreciate. I learned from Sandra that ALVS will deduct the amount of a HAAM glasses voucher from an eye glasses purchase. They had a CUTE selection of glasses that were within my budget and Sandra gave great feedback to help me decide which ones looked the best. I am waiting to pick up my new glasses. I have to say I've been coming here for about 5 years now and am rather surprised that so many reviewers have had such horrible experiences with this place. I will say that I can understand the comments about the front desk staff, though I've never encountered anyone to actually be hostile. They're different every time I come here, but as that's only once a year I don't know what their turnover actually is. Some are nicer than others, and there's the occasional employee who seems to just hate being there. That all said, I've been seeing Dr. Schaper the whole time and I think he's great. He caught my glaucoma and sent me to another great ophthalmologist. He's always listened to any issues I have with my contacts and knows how to fix them. I have never bought glasses from here and can't speak to that, but I've never had problems with getting the staff to file with my insurance or anything like that. read more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I would give a zero if I could but you have to give 1 to post. Been coming here 5 years and the staff has declined. There are signs with rules and ads printed and stuck to the mirrors where you shop for frames. Looks like you're in a bad part of town or something. HORRIBLE AND RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, INCOMPETENT staff. Can't do basic math or explain vision discounts. Reused my own frames this time, picked the features, they marked my lenses with SHARPY, I paid, they Had me sign something saying that they won't cover the frames if damaged or lost. Then they Called me the next day to tell me they undercharged $86. I then reviewed all the receipts, and added up the "handwritten" costs and the totals were off $20. Then I looked at their book keeping receipt and my visa receipt and they didn't match either. I'm skipping over just how bad the next part was for the sake of the character limit in this post but it was like being in a bad dream. 5 years and I've never had this type of issue with this place. I've been to ALO twice. The first was quite a while ago, and the glasses I got there were extremely expensive at the time. $870 *with* a courtesy discount related to my insurance (which had no vision benefits). For comparison, a set of glasses made the year after that with more features - progressive, Transistions, etc., - at Costco, were $220. Fast forward to this past week. I broke my glasses Fri. 26th. ALO's website features an online appointment scheduling widget. Neat, I'll do that. I requested a Tuesday, next-available appointment, left my info, and went on with my life, albeit one viewed through taped-up glasses. My plan was to get the prescription and buy the glasses elsewhere, maybe Costco again. Monday comes and goes, Tuesday arrives, no call from ALO. When I call, I'm told matter-of-factly that the scheduling widget on the website is broken, and that I need to call for an appointment. Huh, ooookay. No mention of that on the website. They say the first available is Friday (today), and ask what time I'd like to come in. "Is 9 am available," I ask? "It is," I'm told. Great. Schedule for 9 am. Plenty of time to make my scheduled client meeting a little later in the morning. Set it and forget it. Arrive at ALO fifteen minutes early. They open at 9 am., but door is still locked a few minutes after 9. When I finally get to go in, they tell me my appointment is actually at 10. "Uh, that's not what I agreed on with the person I talked to on the phone." We're sorry, is there another time you'd like to come in? "This afternoon?" "No, we're booked for today." They're closed for the holiday, closed the following Wednesday for some mysterious "Mechanical Repair". Closed for lunches between 12:45 and 2. Would Tuesday afternoon work? No, I can't make that work. After that, it's slots that are a week out. At this point, I was just too annoyed not to be visibly frustrated. In any event, for me, they'd made it to three strikes. I wish all there were a competent optical shop; I have yet to find one I can wholeheartedly endorse. I've seen Dr. Schaper for decades. Dr. Albrecht seems like she knows what she's doing. It's everyone else and it's always been everyone else that seems to be the problem. The staff are nice enough - in contrast to the old days - but problems abound. I literally dropped my glasses off for new lenses THREE WEEKS AGO and they are still not back. I don't understand. Meanwhile, my husband brought home a year's supply of contacts a couple of days ago and they were the WRONG ONES, that is, they ordered the wrong ones (don't match his invoice) and now he has to wait for the right ones to arrive. It would be like the pharmacist dispensing the wrong medication. I am so frustrated by this office. read more

Dr. Albrecht was excellent if you just want an eye exam. She was thorough in my eye exam. But this shop is horrible. But I will never buy their grossly overpriced frames and eye glasses. I will not go in my personal details, but the Owner should seriously review pricing strategy before quoting ridiculous prices for EVERY TYPE of lens! $160 for plastic single focal, additional $140 for bifocal, $340 for poly-carbonate progressive, additional $135 for UV coating, $20 more for blue light prevention coating, additional $120 for high index and $140 more for wide-view progressive. The prices are outrageous. These lenses are not Nikon or Esselor lenses. They are their own Vision Source brand lenses. C*stco and S*msCl*b will provide far better prices with "everything included" in one price, and with excellent warranty. read more

I was in town from Dallas for Thanksgiving week and forgot to bring a back up pair of contacts. Hector was incredibly helpful and got me a new pair of contacts within 5 minutes. He was very kind and gracious. In this day and age where service is often lacking, he went above and beyond! And now I can actually see for our Thanksgiving dinner celebration! I took my daughter to Anderson Lane Optical on a Monday. I had called for an appointment on Friday and received a call back on Saturday. I gave them our insurance information on the phone and was told I would be called back after they confirmed our coverage. I was called back, told I had no co-pay, and was thrilled to get an appointment the following Monday for my daughter. We were told her appointment was at 10:00 am. We arrived at 9:55, spent 10 minutes filling out paperwork and saw the doctor at 10:30. That was a pretty long wait for an optometrist, but... My daughter was with the doctor for less than 10 minutes, but then they left us standing at the counter for about 10 minutes without talking to us. I finally decided there was no point to shopping for glasses there after waiting so long and asked why they were keeping us waiting. I was told they were unable to find our insurance confirmation, but would tell me what I owed. I told the woman at the desk that their representative had told me two days earlier that I would have no copay, but she said she hadn't been there on Saturday and didn't know anything about it. After a while, she said she wanted me to pay $49 or so. I repeated that their representative told me I would not owe anything for an exam. She said the two women who were working on Saturday weren't in the office. I said that I would have thought they would attach a note to the appointment, but perhaps she could call them. We waited. And waited. I made a comment that the office did not seem very competent, and she was quite indignant telling me they were very competent, but reiterated that she had not been in the office when my appointment was made. Finally, she reached one of the women, who was not the woman with whom I'd spoken, but who, fortunately, remembered my calling. She then told me that I didn't owe anything and gave me my daughter's prescription. We spent 1 hour and 5 minutes in the office, and my daughter spent less than 10 minutes of that with the doctor. So, if you have lots and lots of time and enjoy standing around at a desk being ignored, this is the place for you. If this is competent office management, give me one managed by monkeys in the future. read more

The front staff has the worst customer service. The doctors should really reconsider their staffing, it makes for an unpleasant experience upon arrival. Being a new patient, the front desk staff put a bad taste in my mouth right upon arrival. I would not recommend this eye clinic, there are probably many more great ones to choose from. Please rethink them as your eye care provider. read more

To echo the sentiments of other Yelpers...the doctor is great. The rest of the staff leaves much to be desired. Never friendly, certainly not help helpful and sometimes down right nasty and hateful. Dr. Schaper needs to clean house and get a decent support staff. Poor guy! read more

I was in desperate need of contacts, so I made an appointment here by recommendation from a friend. They had appointments available next day, but I waited until the weekend (love Saturday hours). I only had one form to fill out upon arrival and was immediately taken back for the usual tests. Dr. Schaper was very thorough. Not a super chatty guy, but I appreciated that. He gave me a pair of contacts to use until my order came in and threw in a prescription for glasses if I decided to buy a pair at a later date. Only one blip - I got a call three days after my appointment that my contacts were in, so I stopped by on my lunch break to pick them up. There was only one box and I had ordered four. So, I had to make a second trip up there to get my full order. Not a big deal, but sort of annoying. Overall, I will be going back and I would recommend Dr. Schaper to anyone. read more

Terrible service. My husband and I dropped by to schedule because no one ever answered the phone when we called. Okay, they answered once only to say "Hello, please hold". We hung up after 7 minutes of waiting. The front desk staff was so rude and even a bit hostile when trying to book our appointments and get pricing. Our appts went okay- they were very informative but they're selection on eyewear is lack luster. I just tried to order my contacts on the phone and had the same encounter as before- no answer, no way to leave a message and was put on hold once. This place is mediocre at best for my overall review. There are plenty of places in town that do what they do but offer better customer service. My advice- steer clear. read more

I was pleased with 2 appointments. Staff and both doctors were friendly and thorough and spent ample time with us. The appointments were much longer than I expected, but I greatly appreciated the extra time they took helping my son work with contacts. It was not time wasted. I saw Dr. Schaper for myself and he conducted a quality exam and confirmed my prescription without any hidden costs. The staff was fine and I did not have to wait long to begin. Dr. Dres and his team saw my son for his first eye appointment as a teen and I thought it went great. Everyone was supportive of his nerves. I wish I had the same patient help when I was that age getting my first contacts. They even double checked my insurance details just to be sure I was right about not having some coverage on things. I thought that was nice to make the effort, after I already assume I needed to pay out of pocket for my own exam. read more
