She later returned once she had a ride (our car undrivable now) and they refused to address the issue. They claimed that my daughter signed a form releasing VIP from any responsibility. One star too many. I just read another review, my experience was just as horrible. Yes, it was my fault. The 7-Eleven in Waikiki towed me w/in 15 minutes. I called the number, not bothering with the store employees - who needs the hassle? It took forever and several calls to get a hold of the yard. By then, the driver was 5 minutes away from the yard, at the very end of Sand Island, 20 minutes away. My rental was towed, my option was to take a taxi there. I offered to pay for them to bring my car back. They can't do that. Bull. If you can charge me $198.95 cash only to get my car, I am sure the driver was headed back to Waikiki in search of 'work.' I was told at the bar that they wait there and pounce on vehicles. I get it, I am sure Waikiki has no shortage of these occurrences. The woman in the office is RUDE. I am from Maui, born and raised here, there is no call or excuse for her, except that she hates life, her job and people in general - there are many options out there - life is too short to be that miserable. Monday night after work, I went to Walmart around 6:45 PM, and was surprised to see my interior lights on when I got back to my car. I was also surprised that the engine was on!! But I had things to do. So I drove up to Sam's Club. When I got back to the car, I noticed it looked like the car was on. It was. Plus it wasn't locked. I loaded up all my stuff and drove home. When I got home, I discovered that my car engine wouldn't turn OFF!! Headlights didn't work, windshield wipers didn't work, backup camera didn't work, doors wouldn't lock. But parking & fog lights worked, dash lights worked. Obviously, a systemic electrical problem, but not the complete electrical system. So probably a defective relay which needed to be replaced. I called Hyundai Roadside Assistance at 8:41 PM and they said they would send Tow Jams in about an hour to tow my car to Tony Hyundai Honolulu. OK, so now it's 10:30 PM, and there's still no tow truck. Roadside Assistance says they will call the tow company. The tow company driver calls at 10:37 PM and says he will be there in about 30 minutes. Roadside Assistance calls me at 11:06 PM and says the driver is "down the street". So the truck arrives at 11:24 PM. My street is not that long. It is VIP Towing, not Tow Jams. Whatever. So VIP Towing loaded the car onto the flatbed and left around 11:45 PM. The driver said he would take the car back to their lot and disconnect the battery to stop the car. Then the next morning they would deliver the car to Tony Hyundai Honolulu. OK, so far so good. Deduct 1 star for overpromising on arrival time. So Tuesday at 11:17 AM I called Tony Hyundai Honolulu to determine the status of my repair. Mila answered, put me on hold, and after checking, said my car was not at their shop. So I called Roadside Assistance at 11:32 AM to find out what happened. Roadside Assistance called VIP Towing and said VIP Towing said they were "very busy this morning but would get my car over to Tony Hyundai Honolulu today". OK, deduct 1 star for not delivering in a timely manner. So at 4:42 PM I call Tony Hyundai Honolulu to determine status, and Mila says my car is still not there. She offers to call VIP Towing and find out what happened. So at 4:57 PM Mila from Hyundai called me back and said VIP Towing said the car is still on the flatbed tow truck in their lot, but the driver took the keys to the truck home so they can't do anything. Mila said VIP would tow my car that evening (after Hyundai is closed) and leave my car outside, and put the key in Hyundai's dropbox. Right. Deduct two more stars for not delivering the car, and for poor internal procedures which confound quality of service. So at 7:21 PM I call VIP Towing directly, and get a prompt to push a button to contact the Manager on duty. I do so, but there is no answer. Immediately thereafter, seconds later, I get a text saying: "I'm busy, at the moment, please text me." So I text back that I am inquiring about the status of the tow. I get a text back asking me to call another number. Hooray, maybe somebody can actually tell me what is going on. Right. I call the cell phone number, leave a message, and nobody called me back. Been waiting for three hours, called Vip towing and they only now say there was an issue with the paperwork. The lady that worked there was disrespectful and seemed like she doesn't care about having people wait. Said it would be another hour or so, been waiting forever and almost 4 hours total and they give another ETA for another 30 minutes. If your insurance provider uses this towing service, avoid it and use a different tow and take the bill to your insurance provider. Crooks in every sense of the word. Towed my car from right in front of my house because my complex was doing construction on our parking lot. Understandable. I followed right behind the tow truck as I have to work and wanted to get my car back immediately. I got to the lot (after driving around for 20 mins trying to get in touch with the office because the address listed here is incorrect), my car wasn't even there. Apparently the driver got a flat on the way there. I wait 40 mins for my car to show up and was aware of this made up "storage fee" so i told them beforehand I refuse to pay it as my car isn't even there. They were aware of this and said they would see what they could do. Long story short, I waited in the sun for an hour and a half just for them to give me no feedback about paying the storage fee. They didn't tell me anything, at this point I just wanted to get my grandma home (she drove me there), so i told them I'll just pay the entire $265. I lived in town for years (if you've lived in town you know getting your car towed is a right of passage) and have never paid $200+ to get my car back from a tow company. VIP Towing has been stringing me along for an abandoned vehicle pickup for over a day. Halfway through this experience, we "scheduled" a pickup for 6am and the driver has ghosted me. I am VP of a Association of Apartment owners. We gave VIP the towing rights from our apartment complex. Within a day or so VIP illegally towed one of the homeowner's SUV. Called JB regarding this illegal tow. He apologized and blamed a new driver this mistake and returned the SUV. Few days later VIP illegally towed my car. My car was on a DO NOT TOW LIST. Called JB, his excuse was as usual. A new driver made a mistake and he was very sorry. My car was returned and my car's both bumpers have scratches. But the front bumper has major scratches. VIP Towing is a scam. Yesterday they put my younger sister in a dangerous and vulnerable position when they ILLEGALLY TOWED her car. She had parked in the customer lot of a 7/11 (one whose cameras conveniently "don't work"), and was in there making a purchase for all of ten to fifteen minutes while they stole her car. Multiple witnesses placed her in the store at the time this was happening AND saw her car being taken. Trying to call the company to clear up the situation resulted in repeatedly ignored phone calls and being hung up on when the calls did eventually go through. The place I stay requires us to have our parking placard visible on our cars, otherwise we will be towed, my placard broke and I wasn't able to get a replacement because it was the weekend, but also I wasn't too worried because we called VIP towing and put my car under the "no-tow" list a while ago prior to my placard breaking, however, the same night, my car got towed, I called the company and they said my car is NOT on the list. My neighbor even had the same issue, where she caught them on time while they were in the middle of towing her car, she informed them that she called and put her car in the "no-tow" list (if it even exists) and they also said no, her car is not on the list still. Idk if they are just lying to make money or because they already towed my car, or if someone is not doing their job and communicating to update the "no-tow" list when people call, but now, regardless if I even called to put my name in the list, now I gotta go there and pay $180 to get my car back. read more

Terrible and rude company! I wanted to donate my vehicle to Vehicles for Veterans who contracts VIP to pick up the cars. I scheduled an appointment and received a confirmation text with the date and time of pick up. I stayed home from work and waited for them to come. They never showed up. I called to see if they were still coming and was spoken to so rudely by the man who answered. He said they never sent me a text and called me confused even though I have the confirmation text. He then proceeded to tell me "too bad" and hung up the phone on me. I called back and he said don't call him anymore. I will be contacting Vehicles for Veterans to rescind my offer to donate my vehicle so I do not have to communicate with this towing company. I wanted to do a good thing but was treated terribly! I will be reporting them to Vehicles for Veterans so they are aware of how this company is treating people who are trying to support their organization. VIP's bad attitude and horrible customer service will cause veterans in need of help to lose donations because they are being treated so disrespectfully. Our daughter's car was parked in one of our assigned parking spaces. She has been on temporary duty for a couple of weeks on another island and her vehicle has been parked in the same position for that long. This past Saturday my wife was out watering our plants and noticed a guy taking pictures of our daughter's car. She asked what he was doing and he just brushed her off. She kept working and happened to turn around and found that he had brought up a tow truck and had already gotten the front wheels off the ground. She yelled for me and our son and ran to get in front of the tow truck. When we tried to talk to him and tell him to drop the car. It wouldn't listen. Our son called the VIP Towing office to explain everything and they hung up on him. The problem appears that our daughter never wants to cover the storm drain that is at the end of the parking space. Due to our staff repainted the white and red curbing along the parking space/sidewalk, about 6" of the front of her vehicle was in red. We even called the police but they said it was a civil matter. However, if we didn't get out of in front of the tow truck we would be arrested. My son and I moved to take photos. My wife refused and stated this is our vehicle in our parking space that comes with our townhouse. After at least a 1/2 hour talking with the 3 officers and their supervisor over the phone. They started with arrest procedures including asking her to take off her jewelry before putting on handcuffs. The officer was taking her down the road when he received a call. Whoever it was, told the officer to release her and just give her a citation. He brought her back and did just that. None of this would have occurred if the tow truck driver told her that the vehicle was in the red and needed to be towed. We would have back the vehicle us the six inches. Absolutely abysmal. VIP personnel targeted my association-registered vehicle at my townhouse complex where it was safely parked not impeding any operations only 5.5 feet from the door of my unit that I own. It was just outside of my garage stall partly under the balcony which, per our association rules, is a valid extension of said stall. I left my vehicle there as I routinely have for years as I temporarily worked in the garage and then proceeded into my unit to get ready for work. After a 20 minute gap inside, I noticed a truck towing my car. Mind you, this is an off-peak time and location for them to be doing random enforcement checks conversely to night time where unknown vehicles without decals are consistently using our shared guest stalls in violation of the complex rules. Neither myself nor my association manager received a phone call and no one knocked / rang the doorbell to make contact with me when they decided to hook up my car en route to the lot. I called VIP to which they were non informative and short with me when making simple inquiries. I eventually got to the location which, additionally, was ambiguous, unsafe, and unwelcoming - the female office worker was very rude and pushy with insisting on paying an absurd $184 with cash only, failed to provide me with any information on how to dispute / inquire further, lied to me when asked twice if there was a website for their company (there is), and dismissed me when I asked for photos of my vehicle at the time of towing for my records. Along with other subjective negative experiences with VIP, I can now affirmatively say that this towing service is the most resentful business in their respective sector on the island of O'ahu as they provide no effort to exercise any objectively reasonable discretion that other vendors would. These borderline scam operations VIP are running are inherently vile and should never be tolerated as they will only be conducive to a hostile society and foster animosity for all parties involved. I will follow up with the company and the state per HRS Sec 290-11 to file a complaint in doing my part to help limit unjust transactions like this taking place in the future.
