Take your business elsewhere! I'm sure other these other reviewers had a great experience with Joyce herself, but I can vouch that her other staff are completely unreliable and untrustworthy. I dropped off a dress for an upcoming wedding that needed the elastic on the sleeves either loosened or cut off entirely. I was told it was an easy job and would be ready a week later. When I called the afternoon it was supposed to be ready, nothing was written on the ticket and the lady didn't know what needed to be done!! When I described what I needed, she asked "so you need the sleeves tighter?" I said no, I'm coming to pick up the dress. When I got there, she rudely handed it to me and turned around to the back without an apology or explanation. Such unprofessional service! This is dedicated to all the short people out there that also have an addition to jeans. VIP Alterations has become the trendy place to get your jeans hem on. Make sure you request the "original hem" that keeps the same frayed bottom of the jean in tact, and no one will be the wiser that they've gone a hemming. The $18 'original hem' sounds pricey, but if you factor in that you spent $200 on a pair of jeans that you can't wear in pubic until they're hemmed . . . then well worth it. Though I've never requested her, apparently Joyce is the alterationing queen and quite popular, as she is guaranteed available by appointment only. This is going to be short, because, well, its kind of a boring topic. But hey, these ladies deserve a serious shout out. I have been to them the past three years when the weather starts to turn and sweater/jacket season knocks... each year I seem to find myself with a new jacket that I couldn't live without that doesn't fit to great (curse of the petite). Each time, they have completely rebuilt the jacket - shoulders re-cut, back seams, hem, sleeve length, button relocation - and each time it has turned out perfect. Now, mind you, rebuilding jackets doesn't come cheap, at around $45 a pop and if you need it expedited (done in 36 hours) you can double that hefty tag. BUT, its worth it. I can't believe I am from Atlanta and just discovered VIP Alterations and Joyce! Not only do they do a beautiful job with all of their alterations, I actual feel like I am getting fashion advice on the fit and style of everything I bring in. Joyce has amazing taste and takes the time to really help me figure out how to make my clothes look great on me with slight alterations here and there. In the past, I have used many different alteration places around Atlanta and I have always had to tell them exactly what I wanted done. Joyce is a breath of fresh air because she knows exactly what to do to make my clothes look perfect on me. To top it off, the shop is cute and Joyce is a lovely person inside and out. The problem is probably the owner only do it for fun or part-time. So she is not always there. But certain jobs can only be estimated when she is there. And when you come in and she is not there, they expect you to call in advance next time to check before coming. This is a burden I don't like. Also she sometimes does not honor the open hours. I have had dozens of garments altered at VIP over the years and have always been pleased with the outcome. The owner, Joyce, is very friendly and helpful. She isn't there every day, so I recommend calling and scheduling an appointment with her in advance. Her prices are not cheap, but they are very reasonable for the quality of her work. Also worth mentioning... Not only do I swear by VIP for my personal needs, I also refer my bridal clients to them for wedding dress alterations, as Joyce specializes in formal wear. All have been extremely pleased with the final result! One cautionary note: The turnaround time for completion of services can be a little on the longer end. If your needs are urgent/last minute, this might not be the best alterations place for you. read more

Back story: I bought a made-to-measure suit online from blacklapel.com (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) and all purchases come with a $75 alteration credit. Being new to Atlanta, I found VIP Alterations on Yelp and went in on a Friday afternoon. The staff was very professional, friendly, and helpful, and committed to finishing my alterations within 3 business days at my request. The suit, which fit very well when i received it, was perfect after VIP worked their magic. They also carefully explained exactly what was adjusted and by how much, so that i could make adjustments to any future made-to-measure orders. Joyce (the owner) is incredibly nice! She's also by far the best at alterations, so my advice is to call ahead before coming and ask if she will be in (the others are good, but she is by far be best). The clothes are almost always done correctly the first time and if not, subsequent changes and very easy and fast. I highly recommend this place for alterations. For a relatively extensive alteration, it costs about $100. For more simple alterations and hem fixing it is cheaper. read more

I've been going to Joyce for over 10 years - even now when I live 20 miles away. She's just that good. Call ahead and make an appointment with Joyce. You want her. Period. My boyfriend is 5'7" and needs his jeans shortened. VIP keeps the original hem so the jeans never look altered. It's magical, really. They are equally good at shortening and rebuilding sport coats. I had a pair of suit pants lined (why they didn't come that way is a mystery) as well as having my favorite wool jacket completely re-lined more than once (it has lasted me for 8 years due to VIP). Pants length or flare out of style? No problem. They can become your new favorite walking shorts. Brilliant. DO NOT GO HERE! This was the worse customer service and attempt at alterations I've ever experienced. After the required payment up front, it took FOUR VISITS to get a pair of jeans hemmed and taken in at the wasit. On the 4th visit, the waist was taken in too much and couldn't be let out; the hems were too short; and for some reason, they shortened the crotch, creating a camel toe. I'm unable to wear the jeans; they keep sliding down on my hips, and I'm a big girl. Joyce told me I would have to wear a belt "because I have no butt to keep my pants up!" I've never had a problem anywhere else in Atlanta with having the waist of pants taken in. $80, and I asked for a refund since Joyce was unable to complete the work requested, and SHE REFUSED A REFUND. This lady may be a dressmaker but this is not a place to have a man's suit altered. She spent a fraction of the time I normally spend taking measurements and neither the jacket nor the pants fit afterwards. Huge disappointment as s neighbor had recommended her. I was blown away by the reviews for VIP Alterations. I just moved to Atlanta and was looking for my go-to place. I called in advance, made an appointment and left work early to get my bridesmaid dress and New Years dress altered. I showed up, said I was here for my 2:30 appointment with Joyce and received a look of panic. Apparently Joyce decided to take an extended lunch. I looked over the counter and saw my appointment written clear as day. I'm just disappointed. I felt like my time was not valued. I highly recommend VIP Alterations. I lost 20 lbs over the past year and had many business suits that I could not wear any longer. I took them into VIP and it was amazing that they could cut down a suit 4 sizes and make it look fabulous! They are slightly more expensive but well worth it. I have used VIP Alterations a few times now and will not be going back. The last two visits, I expressed the need to have my bridesmaid dresses back a few days prior to leaving for the wedding. I gave them 2 weeks to complete the alterations and when I went to pick up, the dresses were not ready. There was confusion over the deadlines, even though it was written on my order. They said "this is busy season and there are delays" but never called to let me know or apologize. I also paid $120+ for dress alterations, which is absurd. There are much better places and customer service around Atlanta for alterations. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I called on Monday to find out if I could make an appointment to be measured and was told to hold on and she would check. I was scheduled for Tuesday 10:30am, they picked the time. I work nights so 10:30 is early for me but I'll take it. I showed up 5 minutes ahead of time and the lady that was there said the owner Joy is not here and I'm not good at measurements. She then proceeded to get another lady from the back and were disscussing my meausrements in their language. Then I was told maybe she's at lunch (who takes lunch at 10:30am) and you come back later. I then said I had an appointment and called on Monday to schedule. I let them know that I drove 45min and will have to go somewhere else. Based on previous comments it sounds like they make appointments and don't keep them then use being at lunch as an excuse. I took my business elsewhere and they were so nice at the other place that I plan on not only getting my measurements but alterations as well as other services they have. read more
