    French Onion Soup
    Austin H.

Came here for a lunch date and had a great experience. We ordered the French onion soup, steak frites, and the Westwood Bowl, and everything was delicious. The French onion soup came out scorching hot and full of flavor, the steak frites hit, and the Westwood Bowl was super flavorful and filling. The ambiance was beautiful and unique, the service was 10/10, and I'd definitely come back to Violet Bistro.

Hands down best french bistro we have ever been to. The drinks were incredible and the staff was so friendly. The patio was absolutely gorgeous! Definitely felt so cozy and romantic! I will dream of that Steak au Poivre every day! The sauce was PERFECT I could of drank it!

A delightful French bistro with an updated twist on classic French cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you feel transported back to a chic Parisian spot - from the tastefully arranged artwork on the walls, to the elegant bar with antique mirror behind the panoply of liquor bottles, this place is elegant, cosy, romantic, intimate and fun! We ordered the duck à l'orange, steak au poivre, chicken and cauliflower with a side of delicious truffle fries. Finished off with a chocolate pot de crème and strawberry ice cream. Cocktails were great too. Attentive and pleasant service from Fabian. Merci!

Really great experience here! I came with a large group so you had to use a preset menu, though they were good options - two apps, two entrees, one dessert. To start we had the baguette and Cesar salad - both were high quality and tasty - they get the bread fresh daily. Chicken and cauliflower were the mains - both good. I don't eat curry but everyone around me raved about the cauliflower. Chocolate mousse for dessert was rich and flavorful. Staff was super attentive and very reasonable pricing for that sized party.

Beautiful ambiance. Absolutely lovely and cozy date night spot. The mizou salad was not worth the hype. The steak sauce was phenomenal

Omg get the steak - it was so good I didn't even get a photo. Also the Mizou salad is unassumingly DELICIOUS! So glad our waiter recommended it - he was right. This place is perfect for date night - romantic and cozy. Our waiter also told us about the cooking classes they host! Such a great idea. Will be going back soon!!

First time visiting and really enjoyed the ambience of this place. At the time we arrived they let us know that they had a private event at 7:15(arrived around 5:50ish). The workers never rushed us and i think it reflects at how well they manage their times with the tables. Our group decided to do drinks and small bites and when we were nearing the time they made sure to give us enough time for desserts. I got the violet sundae with vanilla and it was super good! The toppings on the oysters were so delicious as well. I also recommend trying their fries and baguettes. Really enjoyed my expierence here!

Very cute restaurant with a super cozy vibe. The staff and servers are extremely friendly and will help get you in and out of the restaurant as this is a goto spot for people trying to make a show at the Geffen Playhouse. The steak order was fantastic and even though you normally don't get salmon on tomatoes, it tasted pretty good. Also, the french fries were cut in a really cool way almost like chips, but they were served with just regular mayonnaise and ketchup, which was strange. I noticed there's just a little shortcuts here and there Whether it's the hot water picture they bring to you when you order tea or you think it would be a lot more vintage or the fact that you could order this amazing chocolate, mousse dessert and when they bring the check out to some people, I saw the servers had put Hershey's kisses on the little tray these guest's check. We thought that was so weird for this cozy little bistro to have you walk out the door with the taste of a cheap Hershey's kiss being the last thing you ate. What was that about? Either way, the food was delicious and it's good to have a choice like this around the neighborhood before I go see plays at the Geffen .

I cannot begin to tell you how much I am in LOVE with this restaurant. The service is fantastic, there's a valet at the curb and the food is outstandingly delicious. It's been 8 days since this place has been introduced to me and I've eaten here twice and have another res on the horizon for next week. Everything I've tried on the menu has been better than decent, but the magical Salade Mizou will continue to bring me back! My friend Tim recommended we get an order to share with the table. Now, I like salad but I'm not a CRAZY salad lady. That's about to change. Let me tell you, I CANNOT get this salad out of my head. It is very lightly dressed with a lightly tangy vinaigrette with a sprinkling of chopped pistachios that brought a sweetness to the lettuce and delicately shaved ossou-iraty cheese (yes, it was so good I had to find out it's name) that flavored the salad with a buttery, nutty goodness. I've probably now tried 60% of the menu + the Lup de Mer branzino special from the past week. The Smashburger with Emmentaler cheese was great, make sure you get it medium, don't kill it. Last week the Diver Scallops was set on top of a corn puree, which made for a rich savory sweet contrast to the seared scallops (the may have been a tad, small tad over done). I've tasted the Duck Leg Confit with grilled peaches & with a lentil & fennel stew. Both ways, the duck itself was good, moist with a crispy skin. I said to my eating mates that I rarely ever like duck prepared outside of an Asian restaurant, these to preparations of the duck surpassed my expectations. I tried the Steak Au Poive the first time of off someone's plate the ordered the steak for myself the second time. The sauce is buttery and caper-y without being too peppery. I ordered it medium rare, it was perfect and sliced like butter. Here's my only complaint, the bistro needs better desserts to live up to the expectations the mains have set forth.

Opens at noon. Reserve a table in the outdoor atrium. The bread comes from DTLA. Loved the French onion soup. And the Basque cheese.

The onion soup was definitely the highlight -- rich, comforting, and one of those warm, satisfying dishes you don't come across that often. The beef tartare was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The omelette was a bit too cheesy for my taste, though that might just come down to personal preference. Banana tart is so good. Try this. The outdoor seating had a great brunch vibe and was really enjoyable, while the indoor space felt a bit small and tight. Service was also very good -- attentive and friendly throughout. One thing to mention, I loved the bar chairs. Most bar chairs are not that comfortable but these were surprisingly comfortable. Our hostess was super friendly but our main server was a bit curt which put a damper on our experience. We got the feeling that we were annoying him which made our meal a bit awkward. We started with the baguettes and French onion soup. The bread was good and soup was one of the better ones I've had. Perfectly balanced but extremely overpriced at $25. For our entrees we got the burger and steak frites. The burger was juicy and delicious but they could tone it down a touch with the bordelaise sauce as it's a bit overwhelming and messy. The streak frites were perfectly cooked at medium rare but the peppercorn was a bit much and it was very salty. The true flavors of steak would have shined more with a lighter spices. We got the soufflé for dessert and was it was excellent. Overall our meal was good but I've definitely had better and lower prices so I don't see myself running back anytime soon. I will say that the valley location is much more of a vibe with a better lively atmosphere but the Hollywood location has better food.

The escargot was also very flavorful, especially if you enjoy garlic. The bread it comes with is a great touch since you can dip it into the sauce or pour the garlic butter over it. For entrées, we ordered the Atlantic salmon and the rack of lamb. The salmon tasted very fresh, but unfortunately lacked flavor. The rack of lamb -- which is considered their signature dish -- was tender, juicy, and worth trying at least once, but honestly the appetizers stood out more than the entrées for me. We also got two cocktails: the Pomegranate Margarita and the Casanova. Both were good and definitely on the sweeter side, so I'd recommend them if you enjoy sweeter drinks.
