Lemon poppyseed cake with lemon curd
    Kacey C.

Got reservation through rest for 6:30. Owner was the one to greet us and seat us at our table. Our waiter was Glenn- he was great! Everyone was really kind and attentive. Drinks were good. My "the selfie" was on the sweeter side but very delicious strawberry flavor. It took us awhile to get our drinks but we understand they're still getting into the rhythm of things as a new business. We started with the muhammara dip with flatbread and the Big Sur salad (forgot to take a photo of salad). Both were delicious. Salad tasted very fresh and refreshing - loved that it was lightly dressed. The lamb chops were also exceptional - great flavor from the wood burning grill. Loved the creaminess of the risotto and the freshness of the vegetables inside. The lemon poppyseed cake was also really good - especially the curd and meringue that came with it. Our meal came out to around $170 with 18% gratuity included. Can't wait to return and try more from their menu.

This is a MUST for anyone who loves genuinely good food. Not only are the dishes made without seed oils, they are also farmers market fresh and grass fed, wood fire grilled so you get that delicious wood fired flavor. We used to frequent the previous restaurant Jonah's and that was also a testament to the incredible ownership. Service was quick, friendly and attentive, additionally, the ambiance is romantic, dreamy and upscale. We can't wait to return! Shout out Joseph for the hospitality.

Fried hulimi sweet yummy, octopus delish, chicken kofta wow, flat bread divine ... evidenced by not a crum left on plates

Ambiance ... warm atmosphere ... amazing mood, food is something special . All of it. Literally, not a boring item on the menu 10/10

    Beautiful salad

We have been fans of Big Sur Bakery for many years since it opened up North. Having now opened their new restaurant in Santa Monica we were very excited to experience their new creation. The food, service and atmosphere he and his team created were exceptional. Chef Phillip is immensely talented creating dishes that are locally sourced and cooked perfectly. His cooking technique is a reflection of years of experience and care. His team welcome you into their home and it feels warm, inviting and comfortable, the same as it did at his place in Big Sur up North. This magic had us returning to his Big Sur Restaurant for well over a decade while visiting Big Sur. It will now have us returning to his new restaurant just a few minutes from our home in Venice. We had an incredible dinner, cocktails and desserts and will be back again soon. Incredible meal. We are thrilled he and his team have brought their passion to share with our community. Definitely a must to experience and an incredible addition to the neighborhood.

    Flatbread

This place is the cutest. Not only is it stunning with beautiful vibes, the service was great, very attentive and knowledgeable. The flatbread was incredible and so was the branzino. My friend got the short ribs and they were so tender and delicious. 10/10!

Timing really matters here. It is best to come during off hours if you want any chance of getting a lounge chair to set your belongings down or take a break. When it is busy, seating is very limited and can get crowded quickly. The pool itself is not ideal for young children or anyone expecting a gradual entry. There is no graded or zero-depth entrance. Instead, you enter via a ladder directly into about four feet of water, with a rope separating this area from the deeper section. This setup may be fine for confident swimmers, but it felt less family-friendly than anticipated. Conversely, if you are looking to swim laps, this is not a lap pool. It is purely recreational. The changing and bathroom area is very open, and the showers offer no privacy. The shower water was also quite cold, which was not especially comfortable, particularly for kids. If you are expecting enclosed changing rooms or warm showers, this may be disappointing. Parking is public street parking only, paid at meters, which adds another layer of planning and cost. Overall, while the beach house is in a beautiful spot and can be enjoyable under the right circumstances, the lack of amenities, limited seating, and less-than-ideal pool and changing facilities make it hard to fully relax or recommend, especially for families with young children.

Summer is here and so is the Hollister House. And if you have a stylish teen in your household,…read morethey will love this place! Especially since a lot of what happens here is: FREE! There are FREE LIVE CONCERTS & ACTIVITIES FOR FANS OF HOLLISTER scheduled for various dates between May 23rd and August 3rd 2014..Also on site are DJs, a Juice Bar, Yoga Lessons, Beach Volleyball, Fashion Shows, Free Food & Snacks. There are games galore to play in the backyard like ping pong. Of course, in the meantime, the Hollister brand is being pimped big time, along with Abercrombie & Fitch--a Hollister corporate partner. But being close enough to the beautiful Santa Monica beach to hear the ocean cannot hurt the "Cali branding" and seems to help equate Hollister with cool , fashionable kids and happy memories of fun in the summertime. I went online to see if there were any free tickets left for a teen wanting to visit the Beach House for a show and darn it--they were all sold out and wait listing. Hollister hopefuls must be at least 14 years old and reside in the greater Los Angeles, CA. area to apply. Parental consent is required for anyone under 18 to attend performances. Photograph submissions with applications of you dressing in your best 'So Cal style' will decide whether you are emailed an eticket or not. Though the Hollister House is clearly a shill for Hollister clothing, I can't help but at least give it 4 YELP STARS for making a fun place for tweens & teens to enjoy the action.

Dear Shutters on the Beach Team,…read more I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for such a beautiful and memorable experience during our recent stay.especially Cyndi Enriquez who helped us . From the moment we checked in, I was impressed. One of your team members, Julie, remembered my last name and greeted me so warmly--it immediately made us feel welcomed and valued. The ambiance throughout the hotel was wonderfully quiet and calm, which made a huge difference from our first visit. It truly felt like a peaceful escape. Our room was an incredible surprise. The ocean view was breathtaking--we ended up spending the entire afternoon and morning out on the balcony, simply enjoying the scenery and the serenity. Thank you as well for the thoughtful surprise birthday cake. That gesture meant so much and made the stay even more special. Overall, it was an incredible experience. We truly appreciate how you listened to us and went above and beyond to create an even better, unforgettable stay. We will absolutely be coming back. 10 stars! Warm regards, Pamela Madden

Alas, I fear my memory will fade before I have time to memorialize a perfect tribute. From Mikey and Willem to Mike, Andrew, Jason and Zach at the door, to Carol, Rosanna, Myles, Anthony, Beatrice at the front desk, Dorshab, Jimmy, Kevin, Liz G., Mary and Jesse in dining, Maria and Ana in housekeeping, Scott, Gabriel, Julie, Cyndi - quite sincerely every single Shutters employee who crossed my path during a 6 month residency made my life better for having known them. I am eternally grateful for the care and concern extended by this hotel to our community as it offered haven to Palisades refugees - along with our dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish - piled into their beautiful lobby that had finished a renovation a couple weeks prior. The hotel group was generous, and the employees from every department were of the highest caliber. Whoever did the lion share of the hiring for the staff present between January-June 2025 deserves an award. In 6 months time, I did not directly or indirectly encounter a single issue with staff. Rooms were perfectly appointed with luxurious bathtubs and great views. Of the 5 rooms I stayed in, Room 734 was my all around favorite. If that's not in the budget, Room 308 is a runner up. For those looking for a weekend away, I recommend you ask for a room on the 7th, then 6th, then 5th, then 4th floor...you get my point. Rooms from -30-38 with direct ocean views are also the quietest as they're nestled in the center of the hotel. Noise can be an issue on the 3rd floor, at least when staying for months. probably won't bother anyone over a weekend. During a time of great chaos and unprecedented stress, managing the remediation of seniors with dementia, assisting 6 family members who lost homes, Shutters provided me a safe haven. For the rest of my life, I shall be grateful for the kindness of ownership, management, and boots on the ground. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind compassion. I'm including a sketch gifted by the magnificent Carol (@caroldraws___ on IG) of the Shutters house poms. My girls miss their hotel bestie, Cyndi, every day. It's too hard for me to go back as I know I'll want to stay. I miss them all very much.

Hours are extremely limited, so I figured I might as well take advantage of it. Plus, I had already paid $10 for parking for the day. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit, relax and enjoy the ocean view near this beautiful dwelling, or you can grab a bite to eat at the Back On The Beach Cafe. I wandered into the Marion Davies Guest House soon after it opened that Sunday, and docent Susan McCarthy gave me and another couple a wonderful tour. It was fascinating to learn this was only one of the guest quarters on this oceanfront property, along with the lavish 110-room mansion the actress shared with William Randolph Hearst. Sadly, everything else except one pool was bulldozed for a parking lot! Though Davies had numerous affairs, she remained Hearst's mistress until he died. They entertained a variety of celebrities here, including Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, Pola Negri, David Niven and Joan Crawford. Peruse the photos on the walls, and watch the video, "The True Story of Marion Davies," for a delicious dose of Hollywood history. Unfortunately, there is no period furniture, but that's probably why anyone can rent the space for events. Step back in time, and check it out.

It had been a while since I had been here and they have added to their menu. I love the bowls and that you can make your own by picking the base (noodles - rice or vermicelli, rice -- jasmine or brown), choose a sauce (garlic lime, peanut or sweet chili), adding a protein (tofu and mushroom, chicken, pork, beef or shrimp) and finally you can add a topping (crispy onions, yams, leek crisps or pesto) -- those are $.75 extra. My bowl was so delicious -- I had the Tofu and Shitake mushroom bowl and it was so delicious and fresh I wanted to lick the plate. I also decided to try a black sesame latte -- it was ok, not as good as I wanted it to be. There is also a little kitchen for a quick take away meal if you don't have time -- if you never went to the bathroom you might not know it existed because you have to walk through the restaurant (from the patio) to see the take away section. The service is sometimes great and sometimes spotty depending on how busy they are.
