My boyfriend and I were in St. Augustine Beach for a weekend for a wedding. We had our dog with us who was a little nervous about the place we were staying in, so we decided to eat in. We were craving some Italian food and found this little gem. We called in an order and being a Friday night, it was about a 45 minute wait for our food to be ready, but that was no problem. We ordered garlic knots, toasted ravioli, angel hair w/olio and clams ($4 extra) and a white pizza. When we opened up the order, the pasta order was incorrect, it was vodka sauce and no clams. Not a huge deal, we began to eat our food and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was one of the best we have had, as we judge a place by the quality of a white pizza. Even though the pasta wasn't what I wanted, it was still very good. The garlic knots were buttery and garlicky and the ravioli had a kick to it which we really enjoyed. When we were done, we looked at the receipt and realized we were charged the extra for the clams. It was only $4, but on principle, I called. I was put on hold after I explained my situation and was then greeted by who I assume was the owner. She was graciously apologetic and offered to not only give me the $4 refund, but comped the entire pasta dish. That was certainly not expected but it was greatly appreciated. I know people like this place but the service stinks. Ordered a pizza for take out, the girl that answered the phone repeated the order, my name and phone number, my husband gets there 25 minutes later and they have no record of the order. So he has to wait. The staff did not apologize for the mix up or even offer him a glass of water. Also on my previous take out, I got home and the order was wrong. Not going back until CustomerService issues are resolved. The food is definitely not worth the frustration. read more

I love this place. My sister suggested Violas and I am so glad she did. We had lasagna and Cesar salad which was excellent. The atmosphere is charming. They had an excellent guitarist playing perfect background dinner music and not too loud. The restroom was spotless and the staff very welcoming and professional. read more

I noticed Violas parking lot crowded each night as I drove past it on my way home from work. I had been in there years ago and really hadn"t been impressed but I decided to give it a second chance. I'm glad I did!!!!! The ambiance was not as I recalled ..Very well appointed with the bar right in the middle. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a glass of cabernet to start my evening off. The Gator /Lsu game was on and it turned out I knew a few people sitting around me. I ordered the mussels as an appetizer and they were spot on...Perfectly cooked and seasoned. For my entree, I selected the linguini with fresh clams. I smiled at every bite it was so good. Turns out the clams are local and that made all the difference in this dish. Overall a surprisingly great experience. Prices were quite reasonable and the service was exceptional. Its the kind of place where the locals eat and I consider Violas quite the find. I plan to return on many occasions. read more

My wife and I went to Viola's for dinner two nights ago for the first time since they rebuilt after the hurricane. The only change is the interior. Viola's has,hands down, "THE BEST PIZZA" in Saint Augustine. The Caesar salad is wonderfully fresh and crisp, the dressing is spot on. The wine list is limited but packed with good wines at reasonable prices. Welcome back Viola's! read more

I went to Violas on a recommendation from a friend. I had been to Napolis which was the establishment prior to Violas. There were 2 of us on Friday night. We were seated in the main dining area. After about 2 min sitting down I realized it was about 85 degrees in the dining room. We decided to sit at the bar. We ordered a house salad and the house special for the night "Blackened grouper with mango sauce". The salad was good and the grouper was aweful!!! I mean disgusting aweful !! Fishing tasting, small portion. I told the server and his reply was " Oh grouper can be a little fishy ". I said yes., if it's old !!!. I think it was tilapia because of the texture. We substituted our meal (sent back) for chicken marsala. I figured a true italian place would have a good chicken marsala. It was dreadful ! We couldn't eat it, clumpy, tasted like alfredo than marsala. We paid our tab and left. Unless your just ordering pizza stay away from this place. It's flat out gross !! read more

Just recently moved to St Augustine from an area in the NE with wonderful Italian food throughout all my growing years. We want to find an Italian restaurant in the area. Viola's demonstrates good possibilities and authenticity. Ordered veal parmigiana with rigatoni which was satisfying and my husband ordered red fish with spaghetti but he was brought angel hair which he does not like. 2 very large wonderful looking sausages were included in his plate but they were however very spicy. I had some of his fish and found it nicely cooked and very tasty but I too did not like the angel hair with the dish or the spicy sausage...too much. Suggestion: offer customer choice for how spicy the sausage can be ordered....this is Italian food. Listen more carefully to pasta order....Italian food lovers are picky about their pasta choice. Oh......the appetizers. They need a whole redoing and the wine selection you can do better! You are a cute environment with nice people working there and people going there from comments I read and those who we saw. All with a desire for you to keep getting better. Quite evident. read more

Went last night with a large group (12) .We ate out back. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. Pizza was NY style and delicious. Grouper special was outstanding. We had some issues with the food coming out of the kitchen but the managers were pros and took care of us. read more

I have eaten here several times over the past few years. The food is ok. I usually eat lunch here. The restaurant is not that big. I called in for take out tonight. The first time I called I was put on hold for several minutes. I ended up just hanging up my phone. When I called back I was asked to hold on again but I politely explained that I had just hung up because I was on hold too long. Anyway my order was taken and I was told it would take about 30-35 minutes before It would be ready. I arrived about 30 minutes later, paid and was on my way. I personally thought that the size portion of the baked ziti was on the smaller side and it only came with one piece of bread. I was expecting maybe a side salad since I paid almost $14 just for a baked ziti. They put the petit in bon apetit. The ziti was also a little dried out or over baked. Not sure I'll be going out of my way to make a special trip here for dinner again. read more

Went there last night. Sat at the bar while waiting for a table. Another couple fixing to leave gave us their seats and I asked them how they liked it. Their comment was "we won't be back". They said they were very disappointed in the food. We decided to eat at the bar and not take a table, which was a huge mistake. The bar chairs are not that comfortable and no place to rest your feet. We ordered a pizza and it was mostly sauce with very, very, little of what we actually ordered for toppings. We were extremely disappointed as well and...we won't be back. read more

We ordered the blackened grouper special on a Friday night. The fish was inedible, as it was fishy, mushy and definetly not grouper. The server said, grouper is supposed to be fishy. No blackening season or texture on the imposter fish. Perhaps catfish. It was replaced w chicken Marsala. It was creamy marsala, spaghetti w the taste of hamburger helper. We were so embarrassed, we took it to go, paid the tab and threw it in the trash. Stick to the pizza, seems like everyone likes the pizza and salad. Not going back read more

Being from Chicago it was hard to find a great Italian restaurant, but the place has great service and food, and not expensive.

Being from "up north", however having lived in St. Augustine for the past ten years as "snow birds", we finally found our favorite go-to Philly style cheese steak at "Napoli's". Having a craving for their delicious over-stuffed chopped rib eye oozing with cheese, we headed out in that direction only to discover that it was under new ownership, "Viola's". Decidedly disappointed that Napoli's was no longer there, however after looking at their menu and discovering that they were featuring what they called a "Hand Held" prime rib (sandwich) with provolone cheese, mushrooms, peppers and onions, we thought we'd give it a whirl. We also decided to split an "Italian Combo". Thirty minutes later the "sandwiches" found their way to our table served in red plastic containers and if that wasn't bad enough, there wasn't any cheese, mushrooms, peppers or onions to be found on the toughest, (and loaded with gristle) "minute" steak we'd ever had... On the driest bread we'd ever chewed (not a sub roll). Likewise, the "Italian Combo" was served on the same dry "ciabatta" bread, which had no resemblance to a sub roll and therefore ruined the sandwich. Two sandwiches, two drinks and $30 later= WE WON'T BE BACK! Oh, and BTW, when the waiter inquired about our meal (half way through it... almost 60 minutes into the "dining" experience), I told him it was the worst steak sandwich we'd ever attempted to eat and although I was not looking for this response he said... "I'll see what I can do." Well, you may have already guessed... NOTHING was done about it! Oh, well, you live and learn and die and forget it all! TRUE SUB LOVERS BEWARE! read more

Fabulous!!! My husband and I had lunch there and it was SOOO good we went back for dinner with 3 family members. The fried shrimp was THE BEST I've ever had-perfectly lightly battered, fried to a wonderful golden brown. Large, meaty and tender. The mixed vegetables were delicious-cooked perfectly with a really good buttery flavor. My husband had the fish tacos and said they were amazing. My sister had a chicken Philly sub and loved it! The servers and bartender were happy, friendly and fast. And the prices were an unbelievable value. For lunch I had the 2 slices of (large and tasty) pizza and large drink for $5 from the lunch menu. We also had the fried cheese-filled ravioli-moist and delicious and fantastic marinara sauce. My husband had Greek salad for lunch- extra fresh with lots of feta cheese. I will go back again and again! The new owner had been there since September we learned. He's doing a GREAT job- it was busy during lunch and dinner. People are finding out about it! read more

When my Dad told me he found the best pizza he had ever had in his life I was wary. Now this was not the best pizza I had ever had (that is pizzaria bianco in Phoenix, AZ) but this was easily second. So much more than any delivery or big chain pizza could ever dream to be. Delicious and piping hot this pizza was well crafted and loaded. The sausage was flavorful and peppy and the vegetables were so full of flavor I wondered if I had been eating imposters my whole life. Each ingredient was the best of its kind. The peppers were juicy and bursting with flavor, the onion had even a sweetness to it and an almost sautéed quality where it had baked so perfectly with the cheese and sauce. My father put it best when he said "I can actually taste every topping on here. I've never had a pizza like that before. I can taste every one in every bite." What more can I say about that? The staff were wonderful and very involved...wanting to know our real opinions on the food. I can't speak to any other dish on the menu but the pizzas are absolutely fantastic. read more
