So I would have rated this place a 4.5 but that wasnt an option. We went on a weekday afternoon so it wasnt really busy. My wife (for some strange reason) ordered the special which was Chicken Alfredo which was somewhat bland (Thats what you get when you go to a German restaurant and order Italian lol) I had the sampler which included three meats, all of which were very good and it was a large portion. The Mushroom wine sauce had a very good flavor. The Dill sauce reminded me more like a garlic butter than dill but was still good. Overall a good experience. read more

This is a gem hidden in Hermann, MO. This weekend, my husband ate at Vintage for the third time. The second time for dinner. We've never been disappointed. I had the filet mignon (yeah, I know I know - not German food). It was cooked perfectly, and the Norton demi-glace was fantastic. The vegetables were...steamed vegetables... They were what they needed to be - fresh and crisp. I ordered the potato du jour - spiced Yukon gold potatoes. I could have used more seasoning, but I think that at most restaurants. I like lots of non-potato flavoring, lol. Hubby got the special - a steak of some sort - can't remember specifics, and he really enjoyed his as well. We didn't get dessert - too full. The only complaint I have about Vintage is the dress. The atmosphere asks for a little dressy, but the crowd is usually casual. This place is horrible, hands down the worst meal any of us have had in years. I'm not even sure how to provide constructive criticism as each of our plates (4 of us) were equally tasteless and poorly prepared. My wife got the chicken salad sandwich which neither us could find chicken in, on top of that it had this overly bland weird taste like it was just a ton of mayo and nothing else, also the choice of texas toast sized sweet bread doesn't work at all. My friend ordered a open face burger which just looked extremely grey and unappetizing and had so little flavor. Overall almost nothing was properly seasoned and it just felt like they had no passion at all for what was coming out of the kitchen. To top it off, the service coming out of the kitchen is VERY VERY slow, we waited an hour for lunch and they weren't even full. I think they bank on the fact that the restaurant is on the winery premises and that people will come simply because they're hungry and there is no other options. read more

My husband and I visited Vintage Restaurant on the Saturday evening of Labor Day weekend. We arrived after wine tastings ended at the winery so headed to the bar in the restaurant before our reservation. We were able to get a drink quickly while we waited for our table. The hostess and bartender were friendly. Dinner was okay - food was okay, server was almost okay, ambiance was okay (probably better back in 1980). The restaurant was busy with special celebrations - a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary with family, a girls' weekend, several couples' dinners who were probably going for a romantic getaway (that was our goal), and a raucous 40th birthday celebration that eventually overtook the atmosphere of the whole room. It was odd that we had to ask our server about the specials of the day (soup and pasta). She simply came to the table and asked if we were ready without the usual greeting and menu highlights you get at some sit-down restaurants. We only found out about a special lamb dish that wasn't on the menu because we saw other people receive it and specifically asked her about it. She did not seem like she wanted to be there. The French onion soup was heavy on the cheese and not in a pleasant, gooey, soft way with just the right amount of crisp. The baguettes were buried under the cheese so they arrived soggy, rather than nicely toasted on top of the soup for the guest to immerse as you see fit. The bread basket was good, dinner salads were basic. The schweinebraten was tasty but I wished the chicken schnitzel would have come with more spaetzle. Vintage is fine if you're looking for a beautiful view outside the restaurant and want a bite to eat; it is not ideal for a special occasion. We have been coming here every year for Columbus Day weekend (my b-day weekend) for the past 6 years!! The first three years, this was my favorite place to eat!! Absolutely loved the Filet Mignon!! Totally, Chicago quality!!! Use to live there. However, I chose this place every year for my birthday dinner and for the last three years they have not had the amazing steak they use to have!! This place would put beat their competitors if they brought back the Filet!! Again they didn't have the Filet this year, I will try Black Walnut tomorrow night. read more

My husband and I are pescetarians but since there weren't any fish entrees we did it up small plate style for lunch and left very satisfied. We ordered a couple of the cabbage sides, the pretzel with cheese dip, potato pancakes with apple chutney, & the Brie enveloped in a puff pastry with fruit jam. They were all delicious! Maybe it was because we walked in just as the restaurant opened for lunch but I wasn't impressed with the menu--I would have liked a little more variety--maybe a sausage/bratwurst sampler plate and spaetzli on the menu. My husband and I stopped in here to have a nice dinner during our romantic getaway to Hermann. We were pretty disappointed. The service was fantastic, but the food was subpar and the restaurant was loud and dark. I had the schnitzel dinner with the cream dill sauce and the German potato salad. I enjoyed the schnitzel and the dill sauce was great but the potato salad tasted like pure sugar. I was truly disappointed since I have a friend who cooks traditional German food for me and her potato salad is tangy and flavorful, and I was expecting this. My husband had the German sampler platter and was very disappointed with how small the portions were. The plate had one small brat, a couple spoonfuls of beef and a tiny portion of schnitzel. Overall the majority of the meal was disappointing with the highlights of the cream sauce and the polite service, and we felt that prices were far too high for what we got. My husband did surprise me when we got back to our hotel room with a slice of their Black Forest Cake and we did enjoy that. I can say that it was not the best slice of cake I have ever eaten but it definitely was not the worst. read more

We were spending the day in Hermann, MO, and being a German community we wanted to sample authentic German fare. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzels with Pepper Jack dipping cheese. Both were made from scratch and were fantastic! We had the sampler plate, Chicken Schnitzel, Pork Schnitzel and Kassler Ripchen. Went here on a date and they did not have anything but wine or tea to drink. The tea was served in a very small tea glass that they also serve water in, and it was empty after two sips and was hard to get filled again by the waitor. The menu was extremely small, and being lunch time, I opted for a cup of soup and side salad. They dud not have oil & vinegar (or anything lite) so I had to eat it dry & the tomato soup was tasteless. It was EXTREMELY pricey too. Training server spilled a glass of wine on my partner, which we were very courteous about, but then they didn't even deduct any from our bill. Also, we told the servers my partner is allergic to any mammals (e.g., beef, pork, venison) and his salad still came with salami (pork). The French onion soup wasn't bad but the dinner was barely warm to on the cold side the dill sauce on the schnitzel had started to skim like it had been setting for a while. We had a group of 14 put our name in with the hostess or mgr not sure who she was. She was less than thrilled we were there. She told us we would have to split up which we said was ok. Then she said you probably won't even be in the same room. We said that was fine. She said it would be about a 20 min wait to seat us but she could seat the first 4 now. We said no we would rather wait and be seated all at once rather than eating in shifts. There was a bench in the lobby and one of our party said she was going to sit down and the hostess very rudely said no we all needed to wait outside. Very rude but thought maybe it was covid precautions in place. But when I came in to check on our table the bench and lobby as well as an adjoining room with table and chairs not being used for Dining seating was full of people waiting. All of these areas were empty when we put our name in. Our server was very sweet but the service was not the greatest. We ordered our Mayo on the side and it came out with it on the sandwich. I ordered a glass of ice to go with my water as there was no ice in any of the waters when they were delivered. That was also forgotten. My friend ordered a sandwich and wanted to sub a salad for fries and was charged $4 which was the same price my husband and I were charged when we ordered a side salad and still got our fries. I can fully overlook mistakes by a server and would absolutely have gone back if just that. But rude service by the woman who took our name and seated us is unacceptable. Never ok to be rude to a guest!! So for that reason we will not be back. read more

I was extremely dissatisfied with this restaurant. The location and building were beautiful, however the food was barely edible. I had the Schnitzel with a Jaeger sauce, no it was not a Jaeger sauce -- that's just what they called it. It was like eating cardboard with some sort of goopy, red wine infused mushroom sauce. I've lived in Germany and looked forward to eating in a traditional German restaurant. However, this was not it. The house salad dressing was so sweet that it made the salad difficult to eat.
