My wife and I like to go on adventures. We recently went to Herman for my birthday. We decided to go to this restaurant after visiting Stone Hill winery. The restaurant is just next door to the winery. The food is largely German inspired. This could make it a bit hit or miss with some patrons. We ended up getting appetizers, salads, and soup. The French onion soup was fantastic. The atmosphere is decent. It is an older structure that has been refurbished. I enjoyed it. I liked how it felt old. So overall it has a unique vibe and good food, although with a limited menu.

Rainbow Trout with German beer

Incredible food, drinks, service, and a really neat atmosphere! The converted barn has unique artifacts and talking pieces. The prime rib was incredible! The Brussels were smoked with a lush buttery texture. The potatoes were done to perfection and fluffy. The rainbow trout was dry from being overcooked. We understand it's not trout season, but burying it in crapes was disappointing. Great food presentation overall! The wine is fantastic! The Hellbender was a great recommendation by our server. We also enjoyed the Norton and a dry white at home. We'll be back!

Great place to try a bunch of German food with my sisters. We checked it out during the Harvest Fest and found some of the scavenger hunt answers there. Great service from Donna as well

The booths built into the stalls

First time here . Had lunch here with my sister in law this use to be a barn and the booths were built in where the stalls use to be . The chutes where the hey came down for the horses were still there . A very interesting place . I had the kartoffelpuffer which more like hash browns . They tasted ok , just thought there would be more to it . The stone hill winery is next door to it .

My husband and I wanted something light and we love German food, so we ordered the German Duo to split. It was the perfect amount of food for the two of us to have a light lunch. The German Duo is a wurst (with whole grain mustard), half a schnitzel, braised cabbage, potato salad, and choice of sauces. I wanted the lemon dill sauce and my husband wanted the brown mushroom sauce so we asked if we could have a little of both. Yes we could! It was absolutely wonderful German food. We cleaned our plate and felt nicely full without being so stuffed that we were uncomfortable. If you're in Hermann, this is a great stop for German dining.

We didn't realize we would be going through Herrmann when we went to look at purchasing a trailer. On the way back through, we stopped for dinner. The last time we were in Herrmann, we didn't make it here to eat. I was excited they were open so we could give it a go. I was filled with excitement when I realized the inside was a renovated barn, and we were able to sit in a booth, which used to be a stall. We both ordered the French Onion soup. There is a reason it reads 'famous'. It was so delicious and cheesy. It's probably the best I have had in a while. For dinner, I ordered the grilled chicken spaetzle, which is made in-house, and hubs got the German Trio. Again... delicious! The salad was fresh with a great house made balsamic vinaigrette and 2 warm delightful rolls. I also got a side of the warm german potato salad having bacon flavor with a hint of something tart. With all the food and Norton wine, we did not have room for dessert, unfortunately. Cassidy took very good care of us during our visit.

Shared the combo plate with my mom. Enjoyed everything, but the pulled beef. Very dry and could not eat.

Ask the Community - Vintage Restaurant

Do we need reservations?

Reservations are not necessary, although helpful for prime times on Fri and Sat. In the month of January the restaurant is closed for annual sprucing up. Thanks and hope to see you sometime soon!

Shoutout to Nathan!! If you're looking for a winemaking family who is passionate about the details - down to the genetics and ancestors of their grapes - then look no further! We would have loved a tour, but they were booked for the day (go early to make sure you get a spot!), but the tasting was a great second option! For $15 you try six wines from their very large list. They'll teach you about each one too. If you like bourbons or whiskey, I'd highly recommend their Cream Sherry - it won 12th best American wine at the Decanter Wold Wine Competition (The world's largest and most influential wine competition) in recent years (just enjoy slowly - it's 19%!!). Also, they make their wines very affordable! From $11-$40, everything is in reach! (They do have a $75 reserve Norton on the list as of May 2026.) You can enjoy the restaurant on site, shop alllll the wine accessories, relax on their patio above the hills of vines, play a game of corn hole, and pose for a few photos. They've been continuously farming (taking a break from wine only during prohibition) for 179 years! You won't regret a visit if you enjoy wine!

Several other couples who arrived around the same time were welcomed immediately, but we were left standing there without any acknowledgment. It was uncomfortable and made us feel overlooked in a way no quest should experience. I can't say why we were treated differently, but the contrast was hard to ignore. Because of the lack of attention, we ended up buying only a few bottles- even though we originally planned to purchase two full cases. We also chose not to buy anything from the stores afterward, which is unusual for us, but the experience at the beginning made it difficult to fully appreciate the visit. For a winery with such a strong reputation, I expected a much more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. This was a one- star experience for us, and we won't be returning.

They have several signature cocktails. We tried one that was a caramel apple type of drink that was really good, especially since it is fall and chilly outside. The building is historic and used to be a bank and hardware store years ago. The interior exposed brick walls make this a real charming place to have a drink or grab a quick bite to eat. The menu is somewhat limited. They have a couple of Paninis, flatbreads and one or two choices on different sizes of pizzas. They also have some other sandwiches as well. I got the chipotle chicken Panini and she got a bacon cheddar chicken Panini. Both were good (we always share). The chipotle chicken was topped with tomatoes lettuce and onion and it was a really good sandwich. Both sandwiches only come with potato chips as a side. I wish there was a little more choice than a bag Premade chips. The sandwiches will set you back about $9 each, And the cocktail was 10 bucks. This is a fabulous addition to the downtown area and one more place to get a quick bite. Currently they're open most days of the week until 7 PM. they also have several choices for coffees in the morning.

The bartender was friendly and fast. I'll come back if I ever return to Hermann. It didn't look at all like a bank. Perhaps I was confused. Since the drinks are very rich, two is about all you can do, but they are with it.
