I have visited once so far, but I plan to return often. The food I had - the beef shank - was so…read morespectacular that my mouth is watering just writing this review. Definitely something I will crave between visits. The place is VERY small, but cozy. The bar is gorgeous and the bartender/waiter/owner is very friendly and gives great service. We sat at the bar, right in front of him, and he puts incredible care into every beverage that he crafts. The business is also a winery, and they make their own white and red varietals. Sadly, they sold out of all their red, so I wasn't able to try that. Although I ordered a different cocktail, the bartender gave me a generous sample of both of their house whites - they were excellent (and I drink a lot of wine!). The menu is very small, but I suspect it's all great. My wife loved the pasta dish she ordered. I can't say enough good things about this new addition to Newmarket.

The menu is really appealing; the Portuguese influences are wonderful, and the house-distilled vermouth is worth a try. There are almost too many cocktails to choose from. Given the attention to detail the owner/bartender has, we waited a long time for our first round of drinks, which was a little frustrating. It was 30 mins before they arrived. Wine might be a quicker choice. The food choices are small in number, but broad in variety; the night we went, there was a scallop, a beef and a veggie pasta as entrees. The small plates are worth getting, because of the longer wait for food than you're expecting. Go expecting a longer meal (2+ hours for 2 courses), order wine to start and a cheese/meat plate to tide you over. It's definitely all worth the wait.

Disappointing Experience - Overpriced Diner Food at Farm-to-Table Prices!…read more We visited The Orchard Grille at Applecrest Farm expecting a quality breakfast and an experience that reflected the farm's reputation. Unfortunately, we left extremely disappointed. Nearly $60 for a basic breakfast for two, and the food was nothing more than ordinary diner fare at inflated prices. To make matters worse, we were charged an additional $2.50 to add blueberries to the pancakes and another $2.50 for approximately THREE strawberries on the French toast! At these prices, you would think a little fresh fruit would be included. What was equally surprising was the presentation. Ketchup and syrup were served in plastic containers. For a farm that sells real maple syrup, wouldn't you expect real maple syrup to be part of the breakfast experience? Even more disappointing, no butter was offered or served with our pancakes or French toast. These are basic breakfast essentials! When you're charging premium prices, customers should receive something beyond ordinary diner food, especially at a place that promotes the charm and quality of a working farm. The one bright spot was our waitress, Jessica. She was wonderful, attentive, and provided excellent service. She truly deserves recognition and was the only positive part of our visit. Unfortunately, excellent service couldn't make up for the overpriced, underwhelming food and lack of attention to the little details that should make a farm breakfast special. We expected a memorable farm breakfast, not an overpriced diner experience. Very disappointing, and certainly not worth nearly $60. As for the ambiance, it was equally underwhelming. When dining at a historic working farm, you expect a warm, charming, authentic New England farmhouse atmosphere that makes the experience feel special. Unfortunately, there was nothing particularly memorable about the setting to justify the elevated prices. Between the ordinary diner-style food, plastic condiment containers, and lack of attention to detail, the overall experience fell far short of expectations.

I am SO OVER restaurants (chains) that blast music to make their business sound "bustling". Conversation was easy to make in this austere and spread out dining room. Lots of space (and privacy). I can't wait to return and try the bar area. That looks as nice as this hidden gem of a restaurant!

Overall we had an enjoyable meal. They have a really nice outdoor patio which we hoped to enjoy, but it seems to be raining every weekend this summer, and so we had to sit inside. It was a Friday night, and the dining room was not very busy. Hostess and our server were incredibly friendly and made sure we were comfortable (there were some very cold AC vents near our table). We started with a fried cauliflower appetizer, which was good. Certainly not the best I've enjoyed, but tasty. Portion size was enough for a party of 4 or more! The cauliflower was a tempura batter style with a general gao's like sweet/sour sauce. It was served piping hot! Lobster roll was massive, cold mayo style and served with fried shallots, rather than onion rings. A nice twist and something I've never had before. Unfortunately, the fries served with this dish were limp. I'm pretty fussy about my fries and I just don't understand why some restaurants don't fry them to order. If you don't, you end up with luke warm, soggy fries that honestly are not worth eating. For me, that ruins the entire dish and I have to wonder what the kitchen is thinking sending out coldish limp fries. Another entree we tried were the Gnocchi with wild mushrooms. This was a nice dish and the gnocchi were light and fluffy, with plenty of mushrooms. A nice plate overall. We finished dinner with an orange granita dessert which came with plenty of carmelized orange peels on top, one of my favorites! In fact, I enjoyed the candied orange more than the Granita itself! Exeter is really having a moment with a number of great dining options. With just a tad more attention to the dishes, I think in time Epoch could be among those option restaurants. Give them a try

I had been here once when it was garage something & wasn't impressed with that place. They have pool tables now which I don't think they had before. The inside looks the same minus different decor. We were greeted soon after we arrived & my friend's had asked for a specific table as it was next to a guy they knew. We sat @ the high tops. Football was on & I found it way too loud & hard to converse with my friend's who I hadn't seen in awhile. Our waitress was Gillian, she was very nice & prompt. I asked to have my pretzel bites with beer cheese to be brought out first, which it was but before my meal but it came out the same time my friend's got their meal which I found very odd. They're good but eat them warm as they harder up once they cool off. For my meal I went with the chicken tender meal. Chicken was good & I really liked the coleslaw that it came with & FF's weren't bad. I like the vibe in here & think it would be a fun place to come with friend's when football isn't on. I'm hoping that they don't keep the TV's volume up so loud as they did the day I was there. I think next time I may try a burger. My friend got one & said it was good. My other friend got nachos that she liked.
