Extremely disappointing experience at Hagan's Grill on Valentine's Day. After waiting two hours for our meals, we were served the wrong dishes. Staff simply said "Oh, something got transposed in your order and someone else got your meals." They took the plates away and made no efort to bring what we ordered. After two hours of waiting, we left without eating, hungry and frustrated. Busy night or not, this level of service is completely unacceptable. We will not be back. read more

We are from out of town and had no idea how difficult it is to get a table at a nicer restaurant. Im lucky that i looked online and found Hagans Grill. There was room for my table of 5. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming. The staff was so gracious and kind. They all care a lot about the restaurant and their customers. The food was great! Homemade pastas, interesting appetizers, fresh ingredients. Some highlights include an incredible clam dish, lush with garlic and butter and joy, a brie en croute with a tarte raspberry sauce, and crab cakes that were to die for! The desserts were also next level, with a velvety mousse, and a textbook perfect creme brulee. Its not on the main drag, its not on the beach, but it IS worth the trip. Straight to the point: I always have a wonderful dining experience at Hagans. I love the low light casual atmosphere and the bartenders are top notch with their service, cocktails & friendly personalities. Hands down, I can think of no better seafood chowder in the area. I haven't had everything on the menu but anything I or my wife have ordered has been very good. This time around I went with the Statler Chicken & my wife got the Salmon Tartare. As good as my dish was, the Salmon Tartare was even better! Cocktail drinks are always good & they also give you a decent pour of wine. Incredibly disappointing. My boyfriend made us a reservation for 7:30pm on Valentine's Day. We were super excited - only to show up at 7:25pm and barely have space to stand in the front of the restaurant since there were so many people waiting for a table. We checked in at the hostess stand after waiting 10 mins for a hostess. She told us "10 min wait", even though we had a reservation. Come to find out, the rest of the people waiting for a table also had reservations (at least 5 other couples), meaning the restaurant was not honoring reservations at all. Working years in the restaurant business, it is common knowledge that a holiday like Valentine's Day should be primarily reservation tables, accommodating walk ins only if availability opens. But Hagans was not accommodating any of us. After waiting until 8:15pm, we decided to go elsewhere since we were frustrated and hungry. As you can imagine, trying to find somewhere else to eat dinner on Valentines without a reservation was pretty difficult. How ignorant to do this to customers that planned on eating specifically at your restaurant on a special day because they wanted to give their business to you. While we waited for almost an hour standing near the bar crowded with all the other folks waiting, we were not engaged with by any staff, walking past us and pretending we weren't even there. No drinks were offered while we waited, in fact, one couple that was waiting attempted to grab a couple bar seats when they opened up to get a drink while they waited, and they were told by the male working behind the bar that those seats were not for them. I mean, absolutely terrible. Poor management and etiquette. I guess they're allergic to making money. Sad to say that an experience like this makes us and the other customers we were waiting with (who we discussed this with) never want to come to Hagans again. read more

Hagan's is hands down the best meal you can find in the Hampton Area. I'm saying this as someone whose frequented area restaurants for 35 years. (I'll also always have a soft spot in my heart for Heritage House & Mama Leon's) I hate to use the Food Network buzz word, but their offerings are undoubtedly 'elevated' compared to whatever else you may find nearby. Portions are reliably generous, flavors are always on point and the extra details are consistently tended to. The food was so delicious. The best filet mignon topped with crabmeat & asparagus. Melted in his mouth. Mash potatoes and sautéed spinach. I had blackened salmon with very tasty rice and baby asparagus. Absolutely delicious.Our waitress was Michelle who was very attentive.We also had apps.I had the lamb lollipops and husband had steamers with lots of garlic and fresh parsley, to die for both apps. The back room was very nicely decorated with wine bottles and decanters. We went on weekend and never again sit in back room because it was extremely noisy. I can't take loud noises of any kind. Next time it will be high tops in middle room.Definitely will return for a 3 rd time but not on weekend read more

We sat in the bar area and Anthony came over and was ready to joke and laugh with us! Thank you Anthony - you made the night more enjoyable! The drinks were delicious, but the food was AMAZING!!!! I ordered the Caesar salad and the sautéed chicken. Both were so delicious. My friend who is gluten free ordered the crab cake, which she was SUPER excited to be able to order, so thank you for having great gluten free options. Good service. Food was not good. Ordered lamb skewers and calamari. We received lamb balls with a toothpick. You could bounce them no flavor and super dry. Calamari was cold and clearly cooked in old oil. Super greasy dark and served cold. I did send it back and I was given the same cold greasy plate back. This is what I didn't expect. We used to go to Hagan's regularly in 2020/2021but have only been a few times since their chefs had changed. We stopped in last night before 6pm on a whim to see if we might grab a Valentine's Day dinner and check out the new menu since our hiatus. The restaurant was busy but they had some spots at the bar which worked for us. The bartender was attentive even though he was slammed with customers. We ordered drinks followed by the lobster chowder special which was okay. For dinner we ordered the halibut special with gnocchi and chicken cordon bleu. Both were delicious! We finished our meal with chocolate mousse which was yummy as always. We will definitely be going back again soon to try a few of the other dishes on the menu that caught our eye. Since moving from LA we have found it difficult to find good local Restaurants and we were happy when we found Hagan's Grill. Until recently we really enjoyed our visits but realized the last two times that our entire experience was rushed. I would describe it as " Fast Food , Restaurant Style" On the last two occasions we were greeted and before we even sat down water was on the table. Every course seemed rushed. Almost as soon as the cutlery was out down on the plate the check arrived. We were never asked if we would like anything else or more drinks etc. Top line if you like to spend a few hundred $ to be in and out in less than an hour this place is for you. If you want to go for a nice evening out with friends , we'll in our case we are looking else where. After spending some time at North Beach, I decided to stop for dinner at Hagan's Grill, which is located close to the US 1 (Lafayette Rd) and NH 27 (High St) intersection. This streetfront restaurant and bar is open for dinner at 5PM (Mon-Sat) and serves up contemporary American bistro cuisine with some international flair. They offer items such as Caprese Salad, Fish Burrito, 1/2 lb Burger, Lobster Spring Rolls, Lamb Chops, Grilled Salmon, Prosciutto Crusted Chicken, and NY Steak. See the menu at http://www.hagansgrill.com Nightly food and drink specials are also offered. The prices are moderate, appetizers $8-$14 and entrees $18-$24. The atmosphere is casual and cozy with wood floors and dim lighting. The place is divided in two sections with the bar area/kitchen to the right and the dining room to the left. I arrived here around 5PM and took a seat at a high top table in the bar area with a good view of the TV. The Monday menu was very limited with only a handful of regular menu items available, an abridged menu given. There were also some specials offered including filet mignon. The Corona bottles and Beef Tacos were only $2 each. The bar offers 6 beers on tap, as well as 19 bottled beers, wine, specialty martinis, and cocktails. I decided to stick with appetizers and ordered 2 Beef Tacos ($4) and the Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna ($14). The Beef Tacos were pretty good, which had seasoned ground beef, lettuce, diced tomatoes, and a sour cream dressing on grilled soft shell tortillas. The Seared Sesame Ahi Tuna was nicely presented with fresh tuna slices with Shoyu glaze, wasabi aioli, and a cold soba noodle salad in the center of the rectangular dish, chopsticks were provided! This cold appetizer was good, especially on a hot day outside. The service was laid back and friendly. My tacos were ready fairly quick, but sat up at the kitchen window for good 3 minutes before being served to me. I was also given one refill on my club soda ($1.75) with lemon without asking when my second appetizer came out. The check came out to just under $22 with tax and before tip. 1st time going here which we mentioned to the hostess. She sat us at a table right next to phone/hostess/cash register/kitchen. We asked to be moved but the hostess couldn't or wouldn't accommodate us despite a number of open tables. She moved a couple to a table I asked about a little while later, really?! It was annoying having to hear all the phone/hostess seating issues/ etc while we were eating and talking.Which is why we asked to move. I'm beginning to think we get the designated " Open Table " seats cuz we used OT, perhaps restaurants are getting burned by OT no shows so we get worst tables. We add a similar experience last time we used OT. Still gathering data on that theory. Anyhoo... I had the seafood chowder which was hot, but bland. I then had the fish and chips which I sent back to be reheated because it was lukewarm at best, both the fish and the chips. They put it back in fryer and returned it to me hot the way it should have been in the first place. It was good when served at the right temp. My wife had a chicken dish which she said was good. I asked for a cup of coffee while my wife finished her wine and the cup I received was again barely warm and had a funny taste like it had been sitting there for a while. I asked for a fresh cup and hot one. The waitress stated they only had decaf left. Out of coffee at 7pm Mmmm. A restaurant will get at least a 3 for serving the food hot from me even if it's just ok tasting but the issue with the food/coffee/seating/etc above will make this a one and done for us. Also it was quite chilly in the restaurant despite being away from the door. We stayed because it was rated highly by OT, Yelp etc. Going forward I'll have to place a discount on ratings for dining ideas, people are just to prone to rate something 4 or 5 stars when really places like Hagan's are just average. read more

The espresso martini was watered down as if they shook hot espresso and ice rather than having it chilled or room temperature already. Bolognese was ok. Hagans Grill is one of Americas best kept secrets. It is a small, but very comfortable. I really like the how cozy everything is. Getting to the good stuff......... The food is FABULOUS. it is a gem that everyone should enjoy at least once. (me ?....I would go as often as I could. The food is pure ARTISTRY!!!! I have ordered almost ALL items on the menu and I cant say which I like the best because they were all over the top perfection. The chef must be a magician becuse there cant possibly beone person in our Start System that would not be overwhelmed at the perfection of presentation and ultimate taste. Terrible food and painfully slow service. Waited 40 minutes just for drinks. My dinner was inedible. They asked me if I liked it and I said I didn't care for it so they took it off the bill. Then a defensive manger came over and said not everything can be 'perfect all the time'. That is obvious, but the food shouldn't be terrible either. We had often talked about going to Hagan's for dinner but just never ended up there. A visit from out of state relatives finally prompted us to give it a try. After a friendly greeting we chose to sit on the dining room side. The Bar side looked terrific but all high tops - ok for drinks and lighter fare but not our first choice for a relaxing meal. We found the decor to be attractive, comfortable and relaxing. They have a very diverse menu with plenty of options at competitive prices. Our Baked Brie, salads, tuna steak and braised short ribs were all perfectly prepared and tasty. Sauces on all items were delicious and comparable to a high end restaurant level - kudos to the chef! Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. Will definitely put them on our "return to" list and be happy to recommend Hagan's to friends. read more

Stopped by last night and ate at the bar. Very friendly place excellent service and good food with large portions. Large and varied menu. I had the lobster ravioli, my wife had spinach tortellini. Both dishes came with tomato cream sauce. Both dishes were hits. We had chocolate bread pudding for dessert. It was very good and served with vanilla ice cream. Visiting the area and searched yelp for a good restaurant for my one night here celebrating my birthday. Found Hagan's through yelp and decided to go with it. Walked in and the hostess didn't even look up from her hostess stand and was extremely rude. The waitress was pretty nice. First we got calamari. It was astronomically bland. No seasoning not served with peppers or even a lemon wedge on the side. The sauce it was served with was orange but tasted like pure mayonnaise I have no clue what it was. Both my boyfriends food and mine were served hot and really delicious looking. We were both really excited about what we ordered but both of them had strange seasonings on them that made them pretty bad. My chicken and shrimp piccata was so salty I couldn't finish chewing a bite before I was desperate for a sip of water. The restaurant is far too dark. I don't know why we haven't eaten at Hagan's for so long. Heck, we live close enough to walk there. On New Years Eve we met another couple for an earlier meal in order to avoid the late night festivities and I must say I was impressed. Noticing some of the French influence on the menu I decided to order the Steak Au Poivre This dish, for me, is the test. Kind of like linguine and red clam sauce at an Italian restaurant - if you can't nail this dish, I won't go back to try others. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare (more towards the rare side) and was perfectly marbled. Now that's all well and good but what really makes this dish is the sauce AND IT WAS FABULOUS. The key to this was balance - not inundated with peppercorns, not overly salted, not too much or too little cognac or heavy cream, so it accented that beautiful piece of meat so well that I savored every bite and really didn't want to share any with my party. However, the person sitting next to me couldn't resisted dipping pieces of his filer mignon in my sauce - yea, it was that good. So bravo Hagan's we'll be back. Well, last night 8/7 we returned to Hagans Grill, a local restaurant for us and DAMIT if they didn't hit it out of the park again. Beet salad with perfectly blended dressing and just enough creamy cheese was not only delicious but large enough to share. And, the fish and chips / fries, what a lovely piece of fried fish, flakey fresh and moist, and the fry was crispy and tasty enough to enjoy but did not overpower the fish. Wonderful job guys. Oh and least I forget, the margaritas were some of the best in town, no artificial BS. The team here continues to impress read more
