    Classic Classic Reuben Sandwich

Met my daughter & SIL and baby at Sea Dog Brewing for lunch. Have to admit that this is not my favorite brewery (I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to beer). But-I did enjoy their Hazelnut Porter and Blue Paw Wild Blueberry. As for the food, we shared the Brussels with Pork Belly which was very good. I chose the Classic Reuben Sandwich with Cole Slaw and found it very tasty. The service was excellent. Our drinks and food came out in a timely fashion. The restaurant is very comfortable with booths, tables, bar seating and an outside patio. We had no trouble finding parking on the street. Located in beautiful downtown Exeter. Recommended without hesitation.

Blackened haddock tacos with cole slaw

One of the nicest places to eat in Exeter. We got a great table on the patio in the back overlooking the Squamscott river. I started with an excellent margarita, and then had the blackened haddock tacos -- tender flaky fish, fresh avocado, really tasty! It came with a side of cole slaw, which was also good -- not too creamy. Overall atmosphere of the place is charming, with indoor dining just as nice as outdoor. Waitstaff was great. Will definitely come here again!

Recommended for delicious craft beers, clever sandwiches & salads. Several standout New England classics. I've been to the Portland, Maine location and liked it. We came for a late lunch Saturday, August 12. Lots of drafts choices, ask about seasonal brews. Blueberries ale stood out. . Clam chowder, berries & goat cheese salad, fish & chips and veggies burger were all lovely. Service was great. Flies were pesky. Nice view of the Exeter River rapids above the Squamscott River (?) Estuary.

Food was pretty good, nothing amazing but also nothing bad. Beer selection was good and waitstaff was friendly.

We love SD Exeter. Try to make it weekly for Tuesday Trivia. We normally get Fish & Chips and Meatloaf and one of the craft beer.

Teddy had a hot dog & fries off the kids menu with a lemonade. He ate it all. There are about 12 beers on tap. I was happy to have a Maine Beer Co. Lunch. The quesadilla I chose was delicious-it came with sour cream & salsa on the side. No complaints. Plenty of parking in the shared lot. So glad my daughter recommended Tailgate Tavern. Would not hesitate to return.

The nachos were alright, not the best I've eaten, but they were fine. Not pictured is the fried chicken salad and that was also fine! Again, everything tasted good, but just wasn't overly special! It's bar food and if you want good bar food, then here you go! They do have a happy hour, but I don't know what's on the menu. Though it's 3-5 pm every day and 3-6 on Thursdays. I think that's pretty good and I'd be interested in coming back to try some more appetizers with a drink! The server was attentive and the food came out quickly. The decor is fun and definitely reminds me of a tailgate! Again, if you want bar food, this is a pretty good option in the Exeter/Stratham area (though I personally don't eat a lot of bar food!).

Then we popped over to the restaurant and grabbed a table for some food. We only ordered chicken tenders, which came out quickly and were sweet and crispy. Our server was nice, they were a little disorganized and I think we would sit in the " bar service" area next time and just buy stuff ourself and bring it outside. Overall, good time, nice place and they had beers that were not IPAs so those are all good in my book.

While Smuttynose doesn't have a cat (that I'm aware of), we were pleasantly surprised to meet the resident good boy, a black lab named Willy! What a treat. He is so friendly and freely roams the bar and beer garden. Cute pup aside, I love their facility. The outdoor area hosts a variety of seating options, including my personal favorite: adirondack chairs. This place would be an ultimate summer hang if I lived closer! You don't even have to go inside to order a beer - just walk up to the order window. I tasted their fall offers: Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. I thoroughly enjoyed both, even purchasing a variety pack to trek home with me that included both the Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. Their flagshop brown ale is called Old Brown Dog, and when we visited, they had a stronger version on tap - Very Old Brown Dog. The Very Old Brown Dog is one of the better strong beers I've tasted in some time. Definitely a sipper, especially if you're driving - but boy, it was smooth and very tasty in spite of it's sub 10% abv. The tasting bar is no frills at it's core, but clean bathrooms, fun merch, and good beer are flowing. There are some snacky foods available for purchase, but their restauarant is just across the parking lot if you're seeking a substantial meal. Lots of parking, great outdoor gathering space, smaller indoor seating area - would be great for summer hangs. Lots of tasty beer and a good doggy await. Smuttynose is one of my favorite breweries I've visited in recent memory.
