When in Exeter, NH this is the one place for excellent New England Clam Chowder.... Beautifully NE decorated and located directly on the Squamscott River: which begins right in downtown Exeter where the fresh water meets tidal saltwater from the Great Bay. Additionally, our waitress was friendly and very attentive. Wasn't very hungry so only topped off the Chowder with crispy and tangy/sweet teriyaki chicken wings and pretzel bites. Perfect combination while enjoying the views. read more

Passing through Exeter and stopped into Sea Dog Brewing for lunch. Sat outside on the back deck looking over the river. Service and staff were wonderful. We ordered chicken wings which were very tasty however very small in size. Pretzel bites served with mustard. If you wanted beer cheese sauce it was $3.00 more. I felt they should've included it. My husband had a bowl of New England clam chowder. It was creamy and chunky. read more

We tried Sea Dog with some friends for a lunch and had a good time. Pleasant hostess and waitress and comfortable dining room, there is a nice option for outdoor seating with a view of the river when weather cooperates. The menu is standard pub fare, and about what we expected. Friends enjoyed their meal, sandwiches and burgers were nice. I tried a french onion soup which was really average, as well as the bar pretzel (which turned out to be pretzel bites). I felt nothing exceeded my expectations. That said, overall a good choice when in Exeter. read more

Visiting my sister, she took me here to help me (celebrate?) (commemorate?) (mourn?) (come to grips with?) my 65th birthday. Located in an historic storefront and waterfront building, the Sea Dog has a classic seacoast vibe. Part of a New England chain I would love to further explore, this location is considered a "go to" for lunch or drinks. I am told the outside dining area is awesome. It was cold and snow-covered, so I could only look out the windows. Naturally, I got a burger and fries, which was phenomenal. The service was quick and friendly. Since it was my sister's treat, I didn't notice the prices. I MUST return when the weather is nice, so we can dine outside! read more

I had lunch with my friend today and I ordered the fish sandwich. The fish was cold and tasted like it was reheated (not fresh). It was served on an open face brioche bun that was burned. I was surprised it was plated and served that way. I didn't eat the bun and had a few bites of the fish before the waitress returned. I shared my disappointment. She said, "sorry" and walked away. She didn't clear our table and came back with the bill. She rolled her eyes when my 90 year old friend asked for help with the pay-at-the-table credit card machine. Disrespectful... and not coming back. read more

Met my daughter & SIL and baby at Sea Dog Brewing for lunch. Have to admit that this is not my favorite brewery (I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to beer). But-I did enjoy their Hazelnut Porter and Blue Paw Wild Blueberry. As for the food, we shared the Brussels with Pork Belly which was very good. I chose the Classic Reuben Sandwich with Cole Slaw and found it very tasty. The service was excellent. Our drinks and food came out in a timely fashion. The restaurant is very comfortable with booths, tables, bar seating and an outside patio. We had no trouble finding parking on the street. Located in beautiful downtown Exeter. Recommended without hesitation. read more

Lunch by the river. Their blood orange wheat ale is amazing. Fish & chips were a good portion and delicious!! Maybe the best fish & chips I have ever had. Very fresh, cooked to perfection!!! Will definitely be coming back!! read more

Great place for appetizers & drinks. Friendly service with outdoor tables available. Our "go to" place in Exeter.

I took my Mom out for lunch at Sea Dog on a rainy Friday and it was perfect. We sat in the bar area of the brewery and our server was right there to take our drink orders. I enjoyed a pint of their lager, some French onion soup (yum!) and their quinoa salad. My Mom enjoyed the Mac and cheese as well as the blueberry salad. Located in downtown Exeter, parking is a little challenging but it's in a nice location. Super chill spot. read more

Service was excellent! I had a lemon martini- which tasted like lemon pie!!! Soooo yummm I had the chicken Caprese sandwich - which I would recommend . I also paid extra for onion rings - I would not recommend them. They tasted old and stale. A friend had a turkey burger which she said was delicious! Another friend had the au ju sandwich also with onion rings. She had the same onion rings that I had and her sandwich was way over cooked and tasted like it had been sitting around. read more

One of the nicest places to eat in Exeter. We got a great table on the patio in the back overlooking the Squamscott river. I started with an excellent margarita, and then had the blackened haddock tacos -- tender flaky fish, fresh avocado, really tasty! It came with a side of cole slaw, which was also good -- not too creamy. Overall atmosphere of the place is charming, with indoor dining just as nice as outdoor. Waitstaff was great. Will definitely come here again! read more

Recommended for delicious craft beers, clever sandwiches & salads. Several standout New England classics. I've been to the Portland, Maine location and liked it. We came for a late lunch Saturday, August 12. Lots of drafts choices, ask about seasonal brews. Blueberries ale stood out. . Clam chowder, berries & goat cheese salad, fish & chips and veggies burger were all lovely. Service was great. Flies were pesky. Nice view of the Exeter River rapids above the Squamscott River (?) Estuary. read more

This is such an unpretentious, friendly little place right in downtown Exeter. I had a terrific lobster roll and my aunt had steak tips, also very good. Recommend getting there early in the evening to access their happy hour specials before it gets too loud and crowded. read more

As soon as I arrived and sat down the staff started fighting with me. The issue was a paper cup of half drunk tea I was finishing. We had planned on eating and ordering beer, however they were so unpleasant we walked out. How can they treat their customers like that and expect them to spend money and have a pleasant meal? read more

The food was ok. I'm from the midwest, so it might just be our quality meet /s. But everything was reasonably priced. Did like it was outdoors and they had activities (small practice green, Connect 4, basketball). that kept the kids busy. The highlight was the service, A+. Jennifer was very friendly, attentive and was truly focused on our needs! read more

Food was pretty good, nothing amazing but also nothing bad. Beer selection was good and waitstaff was friendly.

Used to love the place....but the downstairs smells like tuna. I thought it was a fluke the first time. Just went back...and boom! Chicken of the Sea to the face!! read more

We were excited to "maybe" visit as we were in the area. They have plenty of outdoor seating but do not allow dogs . Disappointing ... the little town of Exeter is cute read more

Went for Father's Day lunch and sat outside on the covered deck with a nice view of the river. The appetizers were huge! Good Brewhaus pretzel with beer cheese dip.. Hummus also very good! The crab Rangoon dip was also good with enough to share with 4 people. Loved the crunchy wonton chips! We had the Cajun fish tacos with a side Caesar salad. The tacos were fresh and slightly spicy. Also huge portions! I definitely recommend this! My father had the haddock fish and chips. He split his meal with 1/2 as a to-go box and enjoyed the other half as his lunch. Again, fresh fish and tasty fries! There are pleanty of vegetarian options as well. The sacchetti mushroom pasta is a great option for example from my last visit. The staff are friendly and very responsive. We had a great experience and loved the casual vibe! We definitely will be back and recommend Sea Dog Brewing to locals and visitor's alike. read more

Was 70$ for two Ruben's and lemonades kinda absurd and the sandwiches were almost tasteless

Great location right on Main Street where you can walk around to visit nice shops too. We sat outside on the back deck and the view is really nice by a small river. We ordered their tenders and sweet potato fries, both were really good. Def try out their new line of hard seltzers, yum! They do have Truly too. You can also get a tasting of their beers. Their waitstaff was quick and minimal wait time. read more

We love SD Exeter. Try to make it weekly for Tuesday Trivia. We normally get Fish & Chips and Meatloaf and one of the craft beer.

Great spot on the Exeter river had the fish and chips and loved the generous portion my wife had the fish tacos and loved them. The sea dog beer was great my favorite was the sunfish. Servers were great and very attentive. I would highly recommend. read more

First time visiting this location (my partner and I are frequent patrons of the Eliot, ME location) we had the most amazing experience! Our bartender Amber was attentive and delightful, as well as informative and super friendly!! Our food was delicious and there was no wait for anything, but also no pressure to order quickly. As much as we love the shipyard in Eliot, the menu at this location was much more varied. We will definitely be back! Amazing happy hour and amazing service. Also this location is visually stunning being right on the river :) thank you sea dog brewing for an unforgettable date night!! read more

Sat at the bar and was completely ignored. Two women sitting at the corner bar were waiting for their cockatils. One of their martinis was made incorrectly so the bartender took time to fix the mistake. The same bartender took a food order from the couple sitting immediately to my right. And I STILL sat ignored...neither bartender said hello, acknowledged my presence, offered a beer list, food menu nada. I walked out after ten minutes. Walked 20 seconds to a restaurant next door, named Otto and was greeted and given a menu immediately. ‍ read more

Loved my first experience at Sea Dog and my first experience in the town of Exeter. Came here with my girlfriend and we called ahead to ask for outdoor seating and they accommodated us with great service. This place is for everyone. Great for family and those looking to be seated at the bar. Small beer menu but enjoyed the beers we had. The food was great. Loaded lobster roll and not too much mayo. I would've liked some chives on my roll but that is just my preference. The soft pretzel and beer cheese was amazing and super fresh. Great tasting pretzel and beer cheese. On my next trip, I will be sure to come back. Shout out to the great waitresses who seated outside with no problems and provided great service. read more

What went well? Everything! The food was amazing! We got there early, (trivia night!) and got a lovely tour from the manager, Brian. Party of six, and everything was perfect! Service... great! Can't wait to return. The outdoor seating over the water is calling me back! Wonderful evening! Had to get one an adorable sweatshirt! read more

Ordered the steak tips tonight for $30. Asked for medium rare, came out well done and cold. Portion size was small and the sides were cold as well. As a table of 4 we waited 30 minutes for our meal. Getting our check was a waiting process as well. I've been here before and have always ordered burgers which were a 7 or 8 on a 10 scale. My advice, don't go when it is busy, and don't order anything beyond a simple burger or anything that takes any real care to prepare. As others have pointed out, many better options in the Exeter downtown area. read more

First time here. Had the Thai mussels and their burger.......my friend had a salad. Salad looked great, large portion and was told it was really good. We sat at the bar. Mussels were served without a bowl for the shells, no coconut or cilantro flavor at all. Way too sweet, no fish sauce or any Thai flavorings at all. Burger was good but messy as the two paddies kept sliding around.. Had to grab cocktail napkins as the ony napkins was the one the silverware was wrapped in. Bartender was playing favorites with the locals she knew. Came by at the end to ask if we needed anything. Not checking on customers after serving them food is a major fault. Bye Seadog.......I can find better. read more

Really great vibe and food! This is the place for a hearty meal and a good beer with family or friends. We've been here several times with (our very picky) family and everyone has left satisfied. My absolute favorites were the fish tacos- grilled, not fried, and so juicy! The tuna sashimi was also top notch. The lobster roll was very fresh and quite sizable. Service is great and super friendly! read more

I enjoy going to Sea Dog and appreciate the ambiance of being near the river and the casual fare and food. However, recently I went with my mother and she ordered a hamburger and when the waitress asked what type of side would she like she chose sweet potato fries and was not told that they would be $3.00 more. When we got the check we mentioned that they should just tell people that instead of expecting them to consult the menu. She offered to ask her boss to speak to us and he basically just said that it's indicated on the menu that's the way it is. Personally, I get it that they covered themselves with the menu but customer service wise I think he could do a lot better to make his customers happy instead of saving $3. on us. The waitress was very pleasant and hopefully she will remember to remind her customers of the $3 extra for the sweet potatoes! read more

Sea Dog Brewing - two baskets of food on a table - New American Near Me - Exeter, New Hampshire

Awful. I'd had a long day and was looking for a relaxing casual dinner and Sea Dog Brewing got great reviews. I made a reservation on Open Table for 7:45 p.m. But I also saw that there were reservations available in 15-minute increments thereafter (so I didn't think they would be busy). I arrived at the restaurant within 15 minutes of my reservation time, around 7:55 p.m. Upon arriving, a woman seated at a booth turned around (I assume she worked there) and said in an irritated voice, "We're closed." I said, "Oh, but I have a reservation." And the young man behind the counter said my name ... and then said, "You're late." As if I was doing them a favor by coming to their restaurant. There were three employees in the area, and 2 of the 3 were nasty and unwelcoming. After they found out I had a reservation, the woman said, "The kitchen closes at 8." I said, "It might be a good idea to note that on the reservation systems online." The gentleman who was nice apologized, but honestly, these guys need to learn something about customer service. I hope the Mexican restaurant next door gets all its business, as they were welcoming, hospitable, and had good food. read more

I went in for the first time with my mother in law this afternoon. I had a beer flight and she had the blueberry ale, all very good. We also had the spinach artichoke dip and buffalo wings.
