We have been here a handful of times over the years. We remember it being really good and super authentic. Dined here again two weeks ago. It just wasn't as great as we remembered. It was so much better before they changed hands and when it was Vino y Cucina (with a Y). Boy was it pricey and with small portions. I feel like we didn't get our monies worth at all. The bread they served beforehand was pretty weak. It was small torn up bits. Our main entrees were decent tasting but again, very small portions for what they charged. We went on a Friday night at prime dinnertime and it wasn't busy at all. I suppose that should have been a sign. We have been coming to Vino e Cucina for many years--though it has been more than a year since we were there. Going into our recent visit with friends we told them the service was bit slow (and do not expect a warm welcome or smile from who I believe is the head server--its just her countenance), but the food is terrific. We got the service we expected, which was not an issue knowing it as we do. What disappointed us was the quality of the food, a little embarrassed after building it up for our friends. Between the four of us we had three different pasta dishes. The two who had the Scoglio, which was very good--though there was no meat in any of the mussels, they looked like the meat had been picked out. The sauce was tasty, not overbearing, nice little spice. Disappointing were the cacio e pepe--enough, barely, cacio but lacking sufficient pepe, waiter almost got a wrist injury grinding enough pepper into the dish to bring balance to the dish. The bolognese was bland, not much sauce. No seasoning or flavor. We have heard from others that the quality of the food has slipped, and we tend to agree based on recent visit. We will return and try it again as we love the restaurant and have had many, many excellent meals there in the past. Was complete wowed by Vino e Cucina late last December with all of their dishes. Came here for a holiday party for my girlfriends work and loved their lasagna, cacio e pepe and Contadina. They accommodated a large party like ours very well and everything came out one at a time coursed, family style per each four people. It started with salad which was good, calamari which I thought was pretty chewy and not fried well. Bread was okay too. Then we got our starters and it changed everything. Lasagna was cheesy and crispy at the top. Cacio E Pepe was my favorite. Bolognese spaghetti was pretty good. Contadina was my 2nd favorite but I don't recall there being any sausage in it, just mushrooms with a mushroom based sauce. Sigh I hate writing reviews like this but I just can't stomach this experience. We walked in around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night. We got seated and after we ordered, the server told us that because there was a big party, that our food was going to be delayed. Well she wasn't wrong. We didn't get our food until 7:20pm. We did get our appetizer but it came out cold/lukewarm. The sad excuse for "bread" ... it looked like croutons or end pieces. We later saw another tables bread basket and were baffled, they got a loaf... while we got crumbs. We later learned there were specials, but were we told? Naw cos why would we need to know. There's the bar section for more intimate small group dining and beverages. The main room with a vibe between intimate and the room best for groups. We enjoyed the 3rd great for groups. Tucked away in the corner for a lovely intimate date night dinner. It was sweet seeing the family of 8+ enjoying the meals and engaging in laughter. You could bet, it wasn't there first time here. It appeared to be a family tradition to come year after year as they knew the whole staff. When I see this, you know this is not just a restaurant but a place that builds community. As for the food... YUM! You can never go wrong with fresh burrata. I'd like some more tomatoes but I'm a tomato lover. The herbs provided a nice flavor profile to compliment the acidity from tomatoes. The squash blossoms were heavenly pillowed perfectly paired with a tasty creamy pesto sauce. We practically licked the plate clean. The pastas, chef's kiss! The Contadina was our favorite with the umami forward punch. Just a very quaint authentic Italian restaurant with unbelievably tasty food. I love this place so i kind of don't want to tell ppl about it because it'll get crowded. Marco is always attentive and knowledgeable about all of the dishes. Damn this cabernet is perfect. I feel like I'm in Italy, very Italian vibe and they're speaking Italian to each other. We were greeted by the friendly staff, and seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and had a nice relaxing vibe. I ordered the Penne Arrabbiata. The pasta was cooked nicely, the sauce was a little bland. We also ordered the fried squash blossom which was very good! Hands down the favorite from our meals. We also ordered one of the specials, stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and a side of vegetables. The dish was good but needed more flavor, For desert we had the homemade cheesecake. It was very dense. Don't let the outside of the restaurant dissaude you. Outside looks very nondescript but inside the classic Roma Italian cuisine and service are top notch. It was our first time last night and we were compelled to go because they actually prepare deep fried zucchini flowers. Tonight we went to our favorite Italian spot in Long Beach, just a short drive from home. As always, we had such a pleasant experience, the staff is delightful and the dishes never miss. I tried the Positano pasta with shrimp, and it was delicious .. rich and creamy, perfectly balanced, and totally suited my pregnancy taste buds. We had an appetizer, The bruschetta was also light, fresh, and tasty. Their menu gets updated periodically (not sure how often), but we've been here multiple times and it truly never disappoints. Food is wonderful. Customer service absolutely sucks. We ordered a dish of pasta and some wine. We asked for bread. We were brought four 1 inch cubes of bread. The woman who took care of us was not friendly. She was rude. The best part is that I believe she is the owner. I was there five years ago and had a similar experience. Thought we would try it again to see if it had just been a bad night. But for us, it was consistent with the last experience. This place is great and authentic! We went to dinner when they opened up around 5pm on a Sunday for 6 people. This was our first time there and we were in the mood for Italian! Marco was our server and did a great job. We have a few kids with us and he was helpful taking care of them first. They even made Alfredo pasta, which is not necessarily on the menu. We also had a bunch of questions on the menu and he was patient and explained them very well. Food was fantastic for everyone! My wife and mom had the salmon special and I had the lasagna! The calamari came hot. It was lightly breaded and was more soft than chewy. There is a combination of both tentacles and body. The order came with plenty of sauce. The sauce had a nice spicy kick to it. My pasta had a ton of clams. Parmesan was grated on top of it table-side. A small bowl for shells was also provided. The pasta was very simple and minimalist. Usually I don't ever order the special but the way she described it, I just had to have it. Hubby, of course, opted for the Cioppino. Both of our dishes were just simply phenomenal! Hubby's sauce had the right consistency, tang & seasonings-so zesty & savory delicious. The seafood (clams, shrimp, calamari, mussels) were soft & tender. My pasta was egg-based & imported from Italy, it was al dente-so toothsome& thick. Hubby didn't particularly care for it but I loved every bite. Unfortunately, the shrimp on my dish were overcooked, so these were a tad hard on the chew (delicious nonetheless but I do prefer these on the soft chew). The table bread was a bit mediocre. For app we got the polenta squares with cheese (forgot name) but very tasty... light sweetness, edge crunch, cut well and topped off by excellent cheesiness. Wife got Dinner Salad with Salmon, I got the Papardelle pasta with sausage and mushroom based sauce...outstanding! After finishing that off I did get the cannolis---4 small but tasty representatives which did the job for 2 nice desserts! We expected to be seated in the front but was seated at a table, in the back closest to the restroom, it was dark too. I don't quite understand the logic but when my wife politely declined and asked to be seated by a window table they obliged. I'd say never judge a book by its cover, could have happened because we weren't dressed to impress but who knows.. the food was good but not impressive. The current prices are about 50% more than what was listed on their website. I get inflation and wage increases, but update your own damn website. I ended up spending $60 for a pizza, pasta and salad, where I expected to spend around $45. The food: the margarita pizza was sad. It wasn't even as good as a Little Caesar's cheese pizza. The nice couple sitting next to us had been coming for years and years and ordered a plate piled with what looked like a combination of seafood piled high on marinara covered spaghetti. A group of us were there to celebrate a birthday. The servers were nice and the food was ok. I think the kitchen needed some additional help. I didn't eat too much of my food so it all went from plate to container that was given to me. What was disturbing to me is that a big piece of plastic was intertwined in my food! Yuck!
