I had a really disappointing experience at a Portuguese restaurant recently. While other tables were greeted promptly and received attentive service, we were completely overlooked. After waiting about an hour, the only thing we were given was bread and olives. We ended up ordering just a beer, paid, and left. It was frustrating and honestly disheartening. This experience didn't reflect the warmth and hospitality we've come to associate with Portuguese culture, which made it even more unfortunate. I hope the staff can improve their attentiveness so future guests don't feel ignored the way we did. read more

Well, the good: food was delish. The bad: prices are ludicrous. Just insanely high. I used a Groupon to try this place for the first time, and they added $3.00 total to the 3 things I ordered. When I asked for the menu to point out the error, the waitress (who spoke zero English) pointed to the menu price and said "NO" then pointed to the elevated check price and said "YES". I said there was no way you can just change prices without letting customers know. Wow! This is one of the best Portuguese restaurants in the United States, and we talk from experience. We are a mixed Portuguese/ American family and have tried Portuguese restaurants across the United States from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Florida, Virginia, to California; including the finest in Portugal. During this visit we had Porco Alentejana and Bife a Portuguesa and an appetizer of Bolinhos de Bacalhau all were very good. Hearty portions, great food, and very friendly service. If you have never tried Portuguese cuisine you really need to give this place try in an authentic upscale bistro setting. This was our second visit to Venus and it did not disappoint. Service was attentive, really wonderful, and our food was absolutely delicious. The croquetas de bacalhau were crispy and tender. We each got bacalhau with different preparations. This fish was tender and perfectly cooked in every case. Four of us decided a delicious dessert which was refreshing and sweet. Our group of car guys met at Vinhus Restaurant this month. As an appetizer we ordered two orders of calamari for the whole table, then everybody ordered different Portuguese plates from fish, to chicken, and seafood pastas. I ordered the octopus with potatoes, it was delicious. For dessert I had the crème brûlée, also very good. Everybody loved their food! The service was good, Brandon our server was friendly and professional, a young woman also helped him with the service. Both were very good at what they did. The prices were reasonable for seafood plates. The only problem I see has nothing to do with the restaurant, it's very hard to find a parking spot. I had to drive around for 5 minutes before finding a place, and it was someone that was leaving at a block from there. We all had a great time! read more

I had a pleasant time with a dining friend here. Wesley, our server was above average in service however there was a note that he wasn't 100% knowledgeable about the menu. So the restaurant is nicely laid out with a good menu mainly for carnivores, there is a limited menu for vegetarians and possibly less for vegans. Brazilian like a lot of other Latin cuisines is not known for being vegetarian friendly. Wesley, to the rescue as he prepared a nice olive oil and garlic pasta for me. Highlights included the calamari and the seafood dish that my friend had was fresh and good with only a remark about the sauce being too watery which I would recommend be changed. The dessert was to die for, it's the pasteis de nata which are Portuguese custard cups. I felt prices were a little on the high side, but nothing is cheap now a days. This restaurant will fall between 3 and 4 stars depending on what you have. Parking is limited out back on busy days and it's valet based. You can park on the side if you call the restaurant or you can get street parking if available. I'm glad I went. read more

Service: 5 stars for service! Im a huge hot sauce fan and I was so happy when our waitress came out with three different options. My favorite was made by the chefs and came in a little clear jar with a black lid. It had a KICK. Food: DELICIOUS meal from start to finish. We were welcomed to the table with menus, fresh warm bread that had full olives baked into it, and a side of salty and savory olives sitting in olives oil. We chose cod croquettes and fried calamari for our apps. The croquettes were fluffy and fried perfectly. I thought the calamari was too breaded, which is a shame because the calamari meat itself would have been delightful just grilled with some olive oil/chilies. The mains were delicious all around. My colleagues ordered the steak and lamb chop. I settled on the grilled octopus which was very very tender, which is an art when youre talking about Octopus. I didn't need teeth to chew it. Perfectly tender! This would have easily been a 5 out of 5 had the octopus had just a bit more flavor. The olive oil had a lovely garlic profile but it was missing something. I had been following them on IG and was excited to see that they were open. There are not many authentic Portuguese restaurants in Florida -- let alone South Florida. They had opened on this past Friday for family and friends and were doing a soft opening. We called and found out they were open for dinner tonight but were only taking cash or zelle. As it turned out, we were able to pay with a credit card as the system was installed just as we were finishing our meal. We got to meet and chat with the owners, Priscilla and Americo. They had a restaurant in New Jersey for years. After selling it, they moved to Florida and have now come out of "retirement". Priscilla takes care of the front of the house and Americo is the chef. They are working on their hours -- and will be adjusting them based on interest. They will be closed on Mondays, most likely. But do call to check before you come. They plan to offer lunch and dinner specials, too, in the future. Right now, they have a one-page menu (see photo). While waiting for our food, we enjoyed some complimentary bread, nicely toasted, and a small bowl of black and green olives. The little olives (with pits) were addictive. My husband got two appetizers. And I ordered a main entree. He started with shrimp in garlic sauce. There were a ton of small shrimp bathed in garlic butter. He said it had a bit of a kick, but he liked it. While I had my entree, he had another appetizer of steamed clams. He sopped up the broth with some of the bread. My entree was their prawns Mozambique. The huge prawns were nicely grilled and served over white rice with chips, broccoli, and al dente carrots. The Mozambique sauce was served on the side. You could dip or spoon, as desired. As you may recall from Social Studies class (history? geography?), Mozambique in Africa was a colony of Portugal since the 1500's until their independence in 1975. According to Americo, this was a popular dish at his other restaurant and in Portugal. The version of the sauce that he makes uses white wine, garlic, butter, paprika, etc. It is not spicy but has personality. I loved this dish and would order it again. We were too full for dessert, but the offerings of the day sounded intriguing -- a tiramisu, a cheesecake, and a special pear dish. We will try another time, perhaps. And they expect to add more options in the future, as well. If you like Portuguese food, or are a cosmopolitan diner, you will like this cozy restaurant as much as we did. We wish them a long and happy residence here -- we certainly are looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu. read more

The only Portuguese rest left from Boynton beach none in palm beach. We went on a Tuesday a slow day as we were the only couple at 6 pm. The server Lucas was very personable & attentive. The food and sangria both very good. We had the patella mariana , wasn't perfect but was very good. ,only complaint was the lobster was a bit to dry . Spanish potatoes were to thin As a side. Now we lived in central New Jerseys that are loaded with these rest all from my area are fantastic. I love this cooking .so lacking in Florida's. miami has a few and to far to travel . read more

Vinhus, in Pompano Beach. 2201 E Atlantic Ave. Portuguese restaurant in the Newark Ironbound style, in the former space of Ammos Greek Restaurant. Portuguese food is not a cuisine we have easy access to in SoFL. Still, it was widespread when we lived in NJ -- the Ironbound section of Newark, Ferry Street, and its environs was (and still is) filled with Portuguese and Spanish places and Brazilian food. This restaurant originates from Roselle, NJ, and operated for 12 years before the family moved to Coconut Creek. At one time, the family also owned Sagres on Ferry Street. This is as Jersey as your Portuguese food in SoFL is gonna get. Right now the menu is a soft launch menu, and their official grand opening is not until next month, so it should be considered temporary and limited. The chef/owner is still working out his regular seafood suppliers as he prefers to work with New England shellfish. So if your favorite dish isn't there yet (mariscada, cataplana, paelha, etc) relax, it's coming. And yes they do make those thin crispy olive oil fried potato chips you remember. As it was only the two of us we only got two things, a caldo verde soup and a porco alentejana, both were very good, with restrained saltiness. Liquor is wine and beer, but you'll be happy so see that the wine list is decidedly Portuguese. They make both red and white sangria. Can't wait to go back. read more

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to for Portuguese food and I am married to a Portuguese girl! Service and ambience were great. I highly recommend Vinhus. Me being Portuguese I had high hopes. I was there, the food was just ok. Small portions extremely expensive for what it was and the size of the portions. The restaurant has no character and there was no money spent whatsoever in the atmosphere. I'm assuming their rent is so expensive that they have to charge these ridiculous prices for a Portuguese style barbecue restaurant. when a restaurant tour charges those kind of prices, they really don't want your business or repeat customers. It's sad. It's a shame. They really should go to a place where they can afford the rent lower your prices and you will see people come back over and over again in droves. Saw a post about this restaurant on social media. I'm Portuguese and have been searching for a good Portuguese restaurant that is not in Miami. There were 4 of us and we each had something different. Started with fried calamari and the little neck clams. Then went on to our main entrees. Shrimp Mozambique, bife à portuguesa, porco alentejana and the lagueira (octopus). All were amazing and made just like how my mom makes it. Service was exceptional. The interior is simple and beautiful. Had the opportunity to speak with the owners and it warms my heart. The food at Vinhus is fantastic! The octopus was very tender and the shrimp and garlic was delicious. The Portuguese style steak was done perfectly. My wife and I have been a huge fan since they opened in NJ. over the years we have tried virtually everything on the menu and never have been disappointed. My family and I were in town visiting Pompano Beach recently and we were told to visit the newest attraction in Pompano Beach called Vinhus Restaurant and Grill. So many people told us about this adorable and warm restaurant. I told my husband let's go check out the buzz with our children. Needless to say it was INCREDIBLE!!! Wow...talk about an exceptionally special dining experience! The restaurant is just so cozy and the minute you walk in you feel like you are at home. We were warmly greeted by the most beautiful host Priscilla and her charming husband Americo who is also the chef. They asked us about our stay in Florida and gave us a beautiful table. Our one son has so many serious food allergies, but Priscilla provided my son and our family comfort as she went over every menu item that my son could have and also made some wonderful recommendations to the rest of us. Her husband Americo (chef) went out of his way and made a special dish of chicken marsala knowing that was my son's favorite dish. For a Portuguese restaurant it blew away any Italian restaurant my son every ordered this dish at!!! The presentation of our food was like artwork and the flavors were fantastic!! I felt like I was in Portugal!! Their codfish cakes, chorizo, shrimp in garlic sauce and bronzino was over the top! The icing on the cake was their dessert which I am still dreaming about called pear imperial. Totally life changing!!!! We are NJ residents and huge food snobs. I could not have asked for a better dining experience and am so grateful for the kind and warm hospitality from both Priscilla, Americo and their staff. Both were perfectly prepared as described, fresh, seasoned to bring out the great taste of the fish and large portions. We really appreciate Portuguese cuisine. We recently moved to Florida and were warned that it would be difficult for us to find a Portuguese Restaurant. Surprise ! We found Vinhus Reataurant. We were welcomed by a group of Portuguese people who were still watching a football match. The atmosphere, the service and the taste of the food immediately transported us to a village in Portugal. The chef is Portuguese and his wife is Brazilian, which adds even more charm and an extra welcoming touch to the restaurant. (as well as the addition of the famous Brazilian feijoada to the menu). The waiter was super attentive and the service was quick and exceptional. The creativity, the diversity of dishes and the authentic refinement of Portuguese dishes left us wanting to try everything. We ordered the famous cod cake as a starter. Delicious ! Not to mention the Portuguese chorizo. We were surprised when the chorizo ​​was brought to our table on a flaming platter and cut there to be immediately tasted. A touch of creativity that makes us feel more than special!
