The service is excellent, and the servers do a fine job. I tried to book online for 6:30, but couldn't, so called, and was told there's on table of two. Now the food: We had a lobster bisque, with a cream and light. Tomato taste, and some real lobster. Excellent. Mussels were large, and a bit gamey, nice light sauce. good. Had a sausage, finely cut up, and made with a pan fried topping and cheese and nice red sauce. Good I wanted pasta and garlic oil and butter. Also wanted veal and eggplant parmigiana . Sea Mario has been bookmarked on my Yelp for over a year. While trying to make some Valentine's plans, my husband asked where I wanted to go, and I immediately thought of this restaurant. Even a few weeks in advance, Valentine's Day was already booked, so we made a reservation for Valentine's eve. This is not a restaurant I would come to without a reservation because I saw people get turned away. Located in an unassuming little strip mall, you would never know that there is a sparkling gem of a place tucked in the middle of the shops. Parking can be a little tricky, but we were able to snag a spot in front. Inside, this quaint restaurant has such welcoming decor in black-and-white with some accent colors. There are lots of little knickknacks and decorations from Italy. When we entered, we were greeted by one of the owners, Nadia. We had a short wait before our table was ready. When seated, Nadia went over all the specials and answered our questions regarding her recommendations on the menu. Her husband, Mario, also assists with serving. He also greeted us later during our dinner to check in about our meal. Now let's get to the heart of this review...the food. As someone with Sicilian heritage, I have been fortunate to visit Italy and have had some pretty amazing fresh seafood and pasta dishes there. And of course, I've had wonderful Italian restaurant experiences here as well. But I have to say, Sea Mario tops the list. Before I discuss the food menu, I just want to point out they have an extensive wine list. The menu offers several selections whether one is vegetarian, wants steak/lamb instead of pasta, or has come here for the dishes 'di mare.' We started off with an appetizer. Arancini rice balls with mushrooms and cheese. The Arancini balls flanked a bowl of stracciatella cheese. This was a special appetizer not on the regular menu. It was fantastic and dare I say luxurious? (Please put in on the regular menu!) For our main courses, my husband had the Fettuccini Florida Golden Crab & Scallops. It was Caribbean Italian fusion inspired with a flavorful, but not (hot) spicy, pasta sauce. I opted for the Maine Lobster Catalana. I have had my share of seafood pasta dishes throughout my life, but when this entree was placed in front of me, the aroma was so fragrant that I knew I was in for something special. The pasta sauce was made with high-quality tomatoes and caramelized onions (which I think really aided this sauce and made it different). The dish had clams and, of course, succulent lobster tail and the claw meat. The lovely aroma was not a tease because the dish tasted excellent. If having freshly made pasta with lobster sounds appealing to you, this is the dish to get. (They make their own pasta and the seafood is very fresh.) We ended our meal by sharing a fresh cannoli. The shell was not hard like a typical cannoli, rather it had the consistency of a doughnut. The ricotta filling with pistachio was absolutely out of this world. The plate was beautifully decorated with a berry drizzle in the shape of a seahorse. As you can tell, I'm pretty smitten with Sea Mario. We wanted a nice upscale intimate family dinner and made reservations online for this place. It has a parking lot (score!!!). You walk in and there's three areas of dining - two regular dining of tables set for 2-4-6, and a larger table in the back for bigger parties. The bathrooms are bougie (loveeeee the penny tile- thank you for my bathroom remodel inspiration) just like the restaurant with marble tile on the walls - high elegance and romantic and modern. The menu - I had to google what some of the names items were because I've not been to such a fine dining Italian place before. Our waitress was super sweet and checked on us regularly, and one of the waiters were kind enough to take our pictures for us. We got the burrata caprese for the appetizer (without the olives- a bonus for me because two of us cannot do olives). My boyfriend got the fried calamari. My stepdad got the lobster bisque. For dinner my boyfriend got the Maine lobster Catalana. I got the papperdelle pesto with shrimp. My mom got branzino. My stepdad got the shrimp meraviglia. My parents also had wine. Everything was so delicious and fantastic! This is the best calamari we've had ever. I love me some burrata and the bread was toasted beautifully. My pesto was super filling and delicious with the shrimp cooked thoroughly and well portioned. Boyfriend's lobster was delicious and the pasta was too. Had a wonderful dinner here on Saturday. Nadia and Mario are such wonderful hosts, and we've been coming to their restaurants for 12 years. The calamari is as good as anyone's in town, as was the charred octopus. I had one of my favorites, which is the Florida Golden crab and scallop in an unusual light curry sauce over pasta. It's just delicious. One of my friends had the special of the day which was yellowtail snapper Libourne and it was really good. They are too full And tiramisu desserts were also very nice. The restaurant is cozy and busy, but you can still carry on a conversation which is more than I can say for a lot of places in town where it's just deafening. Friends of ours who live in the area suggested we try this Chef driven Italian restaurant. As I had never heard it we opted in. It's small and nicely decorated with the owner's wife running the Front of the House and the husband the Chef cooking. He's from Sicily, which I've been too so I was excited to try some of his dishes. To get started we had some Saratoga Sparkling water - $8. then, we started with Nadia's recommendation of the Arancine (Rice Balls) which we very tasty but priced outrageously high for 4 at $28. Friends moved on to the Buccatini Pasta $31 1st course and we had the tasty Sicilian House Salad. For entrees I had the nicely made "Big Apple" Pasta (Pink sauce) and they all had the "Special - Tile Fish" which was very delicious but small especially at it's breathtaking price of $52. Ended with a most unusual Tiramisu $13 which was served in a small martini glass ??? which didn't have any layers to it. I've had better many other places. Overall, a nice inviting atmosphere with excellent service and pretty good food however the pricing is very aggressive as our dinner for 2 with tip and No Alcohol hit $213 and that was for a shared App, Entree, Split dessert and Sparkling water and this was in for a strip center in Pompano ! So, Once Upton a time, there was a great Italian Restaurant called, Sunset Catch. We fined and enjoyed the food and ambiance a lot. Then they were forced to close by the mean owner, so they relocated here on Cypress Rd to this wonderful find, Sea Mario. The decor was beautiful but the place is small so you better call ahead if you want to try their menu. EVERYTHING on the menu looked great however, three of us went with the Maine Lobster Cantalana. It was a Maine lobster with clams served in a spicy marinara sauce that we changed to mold, over fresh fettachini. It is must try. Portion size was nicely sized. My friend had the Chicken Parm which was so large it almost came off the plate. We didn't have appetizers or dessert but there's always next time. Mangia! read more

Love, love love! Someone had suggested this cozy place to me and I finally got to try it the other night. It reminded me of some of the amazing "finds" we have been to in Italy where you wander down a small street and there are amazing smells wafting out of a place and you just stop to enjoy. Well the road is a little busier here than a small street in an Italian village, but the smells, food, and service are just the same. The decor is nice- a black and white vibe with twinkly lights and quite a robust range of wines lining the wall of the space I was in. Many of my favorites were there but on this night, I limited myself to a couple of glasses of their pinot noir which was lovely. Our server (I think she was also the co owner) was Nadia and she was terrific- it was like being welcomed into her own home. You could see her passion for the restaurant and we were also thanked by Mario when we left so truly a wonderful, hospitable experience. You don't get that very often and it was memorable. The food was also memorable and I have already raved about it to my friends. The menu is Italian and is seafood led. Everything was so fresh and delicious we raved about each dish. I stated with the octopus and conch ceviche. This was so fresh and served simply to allow the textures and the flavors to be the star. My dining companion had the lobster bisque which he said was delicious. For my main entree I had the snapper with clams served over linguine (Red Snapper Marechiaro) with a white wine sauce. Now why can't more restaurants have all of my favorites in one place like this dish has? The snapper was a a full filet laying atop the fettuccine dotted with tomatoes and the little clams. It was wonderful. And my friend had the Ribeye Pizzaloa which was a special of the day and served with pasta. The meat was perfectly cooked and covered in cheese and a light tomato sauce. And just when I thought there was no way I could eat one more thing, Nadia suggested their special cannoli. This cannoli was not like anything I had ever had. it was warm and soft and when you cut into it the cheese oozed out into the powered sugar . . . mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about that cannoli. I went to the gym for penance for that cannoli the next day but it was worth it! This was a lovely dining experience that I will return to often. It would be perfect for a romantic dinner out as well as just getting together with friends as it's special without being pretentious. My wife and I saw this place when we were having breakfast across the street. We figured we would give it a try as it has excellent reviews, and the pictures of food looked very very good. We ended up getting a reservation last night at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in at how beautiful the inside was . We had been to the original restaurant there, and we were not very impressed at all with anything The staff were very friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was very relaxing and had a nice romantic feel. For dinner, we started with the octopus and conch ceviche. I had their special which was a steak Piazza. I'm pretty sure I'm giving it the wrong name but in a nutshell it was a steak Parmesan and they use the ribeye for the steak. My wife had their snapper which came with clams over pasta. The octopus and conch ceviche was perfectly cooked. The octopus and Conch were very tender and tasted delicious. It was served and an elongated dish and had a beautiful presentation as . I'm very very happy to say that the steak was phenomenal. Super tender, not fatty and cook perfectly. I enjoy the sauce as it is a sweeter style tomato sauce with great flavor. My wife's dish, which was the Red Snapper Marechiar was served with clams tomatoes and perfectly cooked linguine. It too had a very good sauce with a combination of the sweet tomato sauce and seafood broth. All the portions were perfectly sized, and we were comfortably full after eating. Although they did not bring it to the table until we asked, I would tell you to ask for some bread. They provided flatbread that had a pesto sauce on it. It cane with olives. I'll start by saying that I truly wanted to love this place and was super optimistic to start. I've seen a lot of great reviews on social media of Sea Mario and being so close to home I was excited to give it a try. Made reservations for 5:45pm and arrived just prior, and was seated promptly. We were the only two in the place when we arrived and by the time we left two other tables had joined. Inside was really nice, black and white clean decor and owner Mario and a nice woman greeted us. Sat and quickly served water and specials were reviewed. Ordered a bottle of wine, a Montepulciano ($62 and the least expensive on the list), and list was fine but seemingly expensive in comparison to comparable establishments with similar pairings. I ordered a lobster bisque and the fried calamari. Both came out in a reasonable time and both looked and tasted great. Huge calamari rings flashed fried nicely. Bisque was creamy and nice pieces of lobster, a bit tart and not the buttery creamy bisque you would expect, but fine nonetheless. For dinner, I ordered the lamb shank ossobucco with papardelle pasta that the owner and Chef Mario highly recommended as the best meat entree on the menu. Partner ordered the ribeye steak which I first confirmed was a prime cut prior to ordering, with side of spinach. Entrees came out and steak looked grey, poor sear and no seasoning whatsoever. Flavor was bland and very very tough; there is not a chance this was a prime cut of beef. Was also extremely undercooked (rare) after ordering medium, but didn't even mention it as the flavor and chew wouldn't have made a difference. The lamb shank was the toughest piece of meat I had ever had and I was genuinely embarrassed. I had to shear off piece with a knife and it was chewy, tough, grisly and inedible. The pasta was not papardelle for starters, was a minuscule portion and the sauce tasted of canned turkey gravy. Owner Mario came over to check on us and I advised of the extreme issue with the shank. He said "I just made it today so it needs more time to cook" and took it away to address the issue (know full well there was nothing he could do to make the shank edible in any short amount of time). I sat for 15 minutes as my partner tried to eat his steak, and I waited. Mario came back out with a larger portion of pasta to entertain me while the meat was still being worked on. When the meat finally arrived back, it was the same as when it went back, tough and inedible. I declined it and it was removed from the bill. I went from so excited and impressed to disgusted very quickly. To top it off, the bill was still over $200 with the one meal removed and only one bottle of wine. What a charming little hidden gem in Pompano. I was literally stopped in my tracks in awe as I walked in, the interior is so pretty. We were there for lunch, we were the first to arrive, but the small dining room filled up while we were there. They are open for lunch from 12 to 2:30 and for dinner from 5 to 9:30. They are closed on Tuesdays. It appears the menu is the same for both meals, we ordered appetizers to share. We got the sausage parmigiana, burrata Caprese and Sicilian house salad. We enjoyed all three. The bread served with each was amazing and light. We finished everything and I would order any of them again. The salad had a little too more dressing than I prefer, but it was very flavorful. The service was amazing, and we felt as if we were the only ones in the restaurant. Mario even came to our table to see how we were doing. There was old school music, playing in the background which added to the atmosphere. Sea Mario is small but cozy with a good décor and pleasant atmosphere. Mario is the Chef with over 20 years of experience and what comes out of his kitchen is phenomenally good. Best of all, his Italian food is the real thing. Take for example Mario's Carbonaro. Unlike most Italian restaurants in the area that use cream and bacon, Mario uses the traditional egg yolk and the cured meat of a pork jowl, guanciale. The guanciale adds the real Italian flavor and the egg yolk must be added at perfect timing or you end up with scrambled egg pasta. It's a feat most Italian restaurants don't attempt and it's an accomplished feat that separates the superior Italian from the lesser, inferior Italian restaurants. For our meal, we started off with a couple of glasses of Baby Armarone Vechio M. della Valpolicella from Puglia. A good wine and at $13.00 a glass; not a bad deal. Then to start us off, an Octopus & Conch Ceviche appetizer which was a j julienned Portuguese octopus and Bahamian conch in a citrus based ceviche preparation. It had a zesty good sweet taste about it instead of the common bitter lime. I then ordered my entrée, Maine Lobster Catalana, which was a shelled Maine lobster with middle neck clams prepared in a caramelized onion and fresh diced tomato spicy red sauce. Then served over fettuccine. It was unique, perfectly prepared, and delicious. Meanwhile, Beloved went for the Lobster Ravioli which was a stuffed lobster ravioli served with chunks of lobster and clam meat, in a pink brandy Fra Diavolo sauce. For dessert, we had a delicious cream-filled pastry like a cannoli , but better. I couldn't have been more pleased with the food and warm hospitality I received at Sea Mario. I came here for a weeknight dinner with my Aunt and Uncle who live in the area. The place just opened 2 months ago and looks new, clean and quite charming. Fortunately we had a reservation because the small dining room became nearly full after we arrived. Prices are quite high, so we only ordered entrees and water. They served a complimentary basket of pita bread and olives in advance of the meal which was nice. I had the branzino which was light and fresh, easily the best of that fish I have ever had. My relatives had the clams and linguine and the pork chop which they both loved. Portion sizes were generous and filling but not enough to take home. Despite not having an appetizer, we were all full enough to skip dessert. Because of the restaurant size, the dining room is cozy and we overheard the conversations of the New Yorkers at the tables next to us. One couple from Queens was raving that the food was as good as their vacation in Italy. We camet here for an early valentines dinner, and regretted it. Owner's wife/waitress was rude from the start. Waited 20 min for menus, then ordered the ribeye special and 7 fishes. Ordered the ribeye med rare minus and was told, "This is not a steakhouse." 7 fishes was decemt but over priced at $79. Ribeye was not prime, obviously choice, was a tough cut, and tasted like a diner steak. Owner and wife/waitress spent 90% of time with one table, ignoring the other customers. No water refills, additional drink orders, etc. Before the food came, when tables were empty, I asked to move, as we were right by the doorway. I was told there was no room, due to larger parties. Moments later, 2 people were seated at the rear of the restaurant. The ambient feeling was not romantic. It was a rushed, stressed, rude atmosohere, with mediocre food. A lovely small restaurant specializing in Italian seafood. No full bar, however, they have an excellent selection of wines and they have a good selection of beer and wines by the glass. Nice Italian music plays and the decor of this place is very nice. Service was top notch and the food was really good. My wife had the lentil soup and enjoyed it. I had the Caprese salad which came with diced tomatoes and olives along with a creamy buratta. It was served with some flatbreads that were warm and coated with a pesto that was fabulous. I have heard so many good things about Sea Mario that last night I decided to try it .... Oh my goodness I am so sorry that I haven't tried it before now. It's going to be my "go to place" from now on. The restaurant is so clean and very nicely decorated. My favorite dish at most Italian restaurants Is carbonara and this bucatini carbonara was off the chart. My dining partner ordered pappardelle pesto with shrimp and it was prepared with pistachio nuts instead of pine nuts which was out of this world. The shrimp could not have been better, so tender and the flavors were popping. I can't wait to go back and believe me, I will be back. We also had the fried calamari which was very light. Next we enjoyed the lasagna, lobster ravioli with nice chunks of lobster in it, linguini in white clam sauce, which was good al dente but a bit lemony for my taste; the pasta bolognese was very enjoyable. Second time back to Sea Mario and it was just as good as the first visit and I think I've gone through much of the menu. A few of the standout items are; Pesto with Shrimp: The Pesto Pistachio sauce is excellent with a fresh basil taste and its served with al dente Pappardelle Pasta and this is something that should be tried. Chicken Parm: Chicken Parm is not exactly an authentic Italian item but it is a dish that most of us have grown us with and this version is superior to most I've had in South Florida. An unconventional menu item we tried this time was the Fettuccine with Crab and Scallops and it took a few tastes to get used to the Curry Cream Sauce but like everything else it was very good. A hybrid Cannoli dessert was not as heavy or sweet as other iterations and was a nice way to end the meal. The restaurant is small and I suppose the only negative might be seating that can feel snug but that's okay because Sea Mario has so much going for it such as; Excellent food with prices that are fair, service that is fine and parking that is right in front. read more
