This place was okay. I sat outside with a friend, they have small wooden benches and tables. I don't believe they upkeep their benches because when I left, I had a lot of splinters stuck to my dress. This was very painful and embarrassing and should probably be fixed. In addition, people were smoking at the outdoor tables and the smoke was blowing in our face. There are large "no smoking" signs outside. An employee walked past a couple of times and didn't even mention it. For these reasons, I probably won't go back. The wine itself was good, cold. They offer small plates which I think are reasonably priced. There was also a jazz band playing. But I really can't deal with the smoke or the splinters. read more

Alright. This is my first review, I just joined because I use yelp all of the time and I have never created an account. So today is the first day of the rest of my life... concerning yelp at least. I picked 4th Street Vine as my first place to review because a) I live on the street next to the art theatre (not cherry) between 4th and 7th. SO... naturally when Thursday night rolls around I have 1 thought in my mind, I'm going to drink some wine tonight. and b) because I always enjoy myself there, The other reviews said it all. I haven't been here other than on that night. They stop serving at 11, there is a bottle of red and a bottle of white that are $3 a glass and there are other options as well. Mixed crowd, not a lot of seating room but there is some interesting art and standing around isn't soo bad. I walk by from time to time during the dead and it is empty, I have also yet to visit it on any other night, but this is the place to get a variety of wine at a cheap price on a Thursday night... for sure! read more

"Hey Robert! You're back! How about a beer?" This is the welcome I got from Jim on my second trip back to 4th Street Vine. On my first visit Jim and I talked on and on about all sorts of topics from beer to literature to life in general while I emptied a bold and strong Belgium beer I had never tried before. Always nice to try something new, right? It was also nice that he remembered me and the fact that I was more into beer than wine. Whether you are a lone stumbling mess off the street or a fine beer and wine snob you get real good treatment here. Sophie and Rebecca also have that same great welcoming personality. Evan behind the bar is also very knowledgeable and helpful with answers and suggestions. When you go there you feel like you just walked into a friend's house you haven't seen in a long while. The place itself is wide and spacious with new artwork up on the walls every so often and usually from local Long Beach artists which is great. The atmosphere makes real good use of color and light with one wall all brick. There is a unique and broad selection of wine and beer on display. You can also hear some good music from indie and folk rock artists. Great selections for wine and beer tastings. Very good pairings of drinks with their tastings too. As I am a beer person at heart I doubt I would be a wine drinker but if I ever took it up I would trust Jim and his crew to show me whats what. They know their stuff. read more

Absolutely love this place! It's a fairly big space, but only a small bar in the back. They also have a couple of couches and patio - need to try that out next time. We've been here twice and both times were great. First time there were more people and a nice & knowledgeable guy behind the bar. We tried a flight of Pinot Nior - amazing variety! The crowd was really fun too. Relaxing conversation over a good glass of wine is always fun. Great selection of beers on tap too - that was a surprise. The second time we went, we were the only people in the bar for a while. The lady behind the bar wasn't as cheery as the first guy, but still nice & knowledgeable. I actually liked the we did not share the same preference in wine. Started some great convo - again! This time we made our own flights. I loved the Madeira - so yummy! Love this place! Great to see small businesses succeeding on 4th street. Evan is always there every time I stop by after dinner at Number Nine. He is super knowledgeable of everything they have and all around nice guy. I don't know anything about wine so I always ask him to recommend his personal favorites, which he does. Not much seating but fun to bring a couple of friends and stand around for a tasting - which is a pretty great deal at $10 for 3 glasses. Would highly recommend and go back! read more

We came here for a number of slightly odd reasons; we'd just seen their bar at the Long Beach Airport; it's super close to our house and we hadn't been; I am on crutches so can't walk far; and we needed somewhere quiet to have a beer and discuss some logistics about travel and flights in the next months (which, especially when we're tired, we need a public place for to make sure it doesn't turn into a massacre of epic proportion and someone is yelling). Enter 4th and Vine (check). We got here during happy hour which was great (b/w 5-7pm, i think) and beer on tap was $4 (can't remember what the bottles were), and they have some really interesting beer. No Budweiser of Shock Top here. The inside is cool and quiet with a long bar but we discovered some some very nice seating outside actually, with benches and chairs and cool granite tables. (A note on the tables - watch out! I sat down a bit awkwardly and managed to gouge a piece out my side with a corner of the granite table that was sticking out at kind of an odd angle). There were a couple of people around but it was quiet and cool and kind of the perfect place to have a beer and a chat on a wednesday night. We ended up getting a wheat beer for me, a goze for the HB and then a lager to share, and they were all actually very nice. We were only there for a about an hour so and I'd love to go back to try more of their beers and food and check out some live music too. We'll definitely be back. read more

Fantastic spot to hang out for some drinks They have a number of good wines for sale, a sampling of equally good wines and beers to taste with a nice little living room type lounge area to enjoy the drinks and company. I was very impressed with the beer selection and will certainly head back with that in mind, but my recent visit was for wine... It was the great $3 Thurs that my wife and I visited and sampled a Rhone and Nero d'Avola. My Nero wasn't on the $3 list but the surprisingly good Rhone was thankfully. We probably wouldn't have tried it otherwise but am glad to have given it a shot. That's what's great about the $3 night, you can try a small selection of wines that you normally may not give the time of day and possibly end up a fan of something new. Also, in addition to the great deal on Thurs, the bottles for sale have reasonable prices. I made a small personal victory in finding a bottle that I tried and loved at a restaurant which not finding anywhere else, was for sale here at 4th Street Vine! I'm definitely going back to try more $3 tastings and see if I can grab some more good bottles. read more

Worst customer service ever. I tried ordering a drink from the bartender but she blatantly ignored me waiting next to the bar. Instead, she preoccupied herself with minor tasks (pouring ice in some cooler, welcoming new customers, ensuring everyone at the bar was taken care of, etc) rather than prioritizing correctly. After she finished everything she could possibly do besides serve me, she found some regulars waiting in line behind me and took their order instead. I explained what happened to my friends who came with me and one keys to purchase the from on my behalf. Oddly enough, she received the exact same treatment! I'm sure she was not having a bad day because she was happily chatting with everyone but my party. She is a red head with glasses. Edit: my friend tried her luck again with purchasing a drink just a few minutes ago. Another regular came to wait right after her and the same bartender came by and asked what he wanted instead of my friends who was in line first. The regular said she (my friend) was there first but the bartender insisted on taking his order first, reassuring that it'll only take a minute! Though most wine bars tend toward the "I'm too cool for you" hipster vibe, this place was rad and not stuffy at all. The live jazz band was spectacular and if you're a local, you will probably run in to at least one person you know. I had a St. Bernardus beer (only because I was driving and thought that the wine would inhibit me, however the beer had 10% alcohol by volume) for $7 and my pal and boyfriends each had a glass of wine for $8. The price is good for the quality/array of the libations and I would most definitely head back there for some finger-snapping, lip-smacking Friday night festivities. Was here a few weeks back on a Thursday and was lucky enough to be there for the $3 wine pours. The wines were very good and the guy running the show was very nice. Filled us in on all the wines. They also had some really great beers too. I will definitely be coming back to this place on a Thursday. Went on a Saturday and didn't have the same luck. The place had a good amount of people in it but there was not enough seating. This place is great for a few people but for it being a wine bar, there is no where near enough seating at this place. There is a bar with about 4 stools on it, a Couch, and a Love Seat. I kid you not. This place would be a 5 star place if you could have a seat there! From the looks of some of the reviews, I'm not the only person who feels that way too. Come on 4th and Vine, I want you guys to stick around! Stopped by for the first time last Friday - continuation of my birthday evening after Thai Gourmet. We had such a great time! We did one sampling, and while the wine was great, we really enjoyed the friendly staff. Anyone can offer wine tastings but it was the folks working there, who not only knew the wine, but could also carry a great conversation beyond the wine made the evening more interesting. Waited a long time to hit fourth street when this place was open, well today was the day. Didn't see much wine, lots of soda. A young couple from Ohio were carded and the guy behind the counter went into this long story about his Ohio roots. After giving this place the benefit of the doubt and a second chance .. I realized there is no hope in customer service heaven for this bar and frankly I wouldn't even have stepped foot into this establishment if it wasn't for the vegan pop ups! My first time there, was for a vegan pop up event , I was completely ignored by the woman "tending" the bar- several attempts to get her attention but seemed like she was serving everyone but us, we weren't even greeted at any point. My date had to leave his seat and walk over to her to finally get us a drink. After that drink we got our food and immediately left to another bar. Then, I knew- they weren't worth my money or another visit.. this morning I was invited to a pop up brunch, where I was not told the location till I got there in fear I wouldn't go!! Sure enough, same woman "tending" bar , déjà vu. Here we are again standing for over 10 minutes while she completely looks through us and again not even a greeting when we walked in. I've been to most Long Beach bars and I've need felt so unwelcome and out of place. Finally, again, leaving our chairs, to come to her, we walk over and wait for her to finish with another customer. Before she took our order, I simply asked, do you have to get in line here to get a drink or do you serve the whole bar ? - her reply was , "yes in line, no I mean I serve the whole bar" which I replied, we were standing there for a long time waving at you. She looked down and said " oh I didn't see you " ... what a joke if it wasn't for the vegan pop ups I would of never spent a dime in that place! There is way too many options and way friendlier bartenders out there to settle for half ass serve like this! No one goes out to be treated poorly and I'm definitely NOT paying for it! I love this place. I have been here now on a Thursday for the $3/glass special. On a Friday night, on a Saturday night and most recently on a Sunday evening for the $8 bottomless mimosas (bottomless is no exaggeration). There is nothing bad to say about this place. The staff is wonderful. The prices are reasonable. The pours are generous. The wine is quality. It is a very fun place to check out and grab some wine (or beer) before a night out.... or as a last stop. There's no need this place cannot fill. I come here about once a week and I have no intention of changing that. read more

Ok, so I've gone back and the place was much busier. We went on a Thursday night and I guess they do a $3 glasses of wine for the night. It was crazy in that place. There were at least 25 people and for this place, is rocking. The wines weren't any better and for $3 a glass, it was worth a stop in to check out the scene. The employees were just as nice as before, but the crowd was a bit younger and for some reason more pretentious. That doesn't make sense. But it sounded like the $3 wine brought in the charlatans and wannabe winos. The bar does have a good little selection of beer. The chalkboard could be bigger. I can't read it without my glasses. They definitely need more seating and AC. This is not the first place along 4th St. that I feel needs Central Air... Is there a reason for this? Anyways, I have to stick by my 3 stars. Wine is cheap, but not great. Place is quaint but particularly comfortable. I don't think I could spend a considerable amount of time there considering I need access to AC and a bathroom. I recommend going on Thursday nights to get a feel of this place at high volume. But dress in layers... Light layers... read more

So I absolutely love this place. My review is solely for Thursdays and Sundays. I have been here a few times On a Thursday and it was great. $3 for a glass of wine, you have the choice of red or white and its always a different type of wine each time. They have all been delicious. I think each month they feature a new local artist. I have seen a few of the artists there on some of the nights that I have been there. This place is a little small so they don't have much seating here so if you go on a busy night you may not have anywhere to sit. Luckily we got there early so we snagged the couches in the corner. Evan is also great. He is very knowledgeable about all the wines they have. He deserves a raise. I have also been here on a Sunday for unlimited mimosas. Yep thats right UNLIMITED, I think it might be after 1 or 2pm though. Evan is very generous when serving you so is champagne with a splash of oj. You can also bring in your own appetizers. Evan and Bekah are very engaging, really good at starting a conversation or including you in something that's already going on. The owners are really nice too. It's a real eclectic crowd with a lot of different interests. We've met a lot of fun people that we look forward to seeing, usually on Thursdays. I believe all the reviews that speak on the rudeness of the staff. We went in there for the first time because it LOOKS like a cool spot to chill but it is Blazing hot inside. It was as though they had the heater on and were blowing the heat around with fans (seriously, buy an air conditioner! How do you expect people to want to come in out of a warm summer night to relax with a nice glass of wine when it is a fricken SAUNA in there??). And people are right when they say the staff pays way more attention to the regulars. It took us forever to get two drinks and there were three servers working. There is a cooler little wine place next to the theater across the street where you can chill and listen to old records while the ONE really nice bartender breaks down everything about the wine you're having.
