Have been to Villaggio's a couple times on our trips to Door County. Decided to go back recently after a couple year break. There were a total of 6 of us...made a reservation day of without any problem. Got to the restaurant and there was plenty of seating. I will say this - the pasta sauce there is amazing. I always buy a jar of it when were there to take home. I had the chicken parm and I have to say I enjoyed it. The meat lasagana was really good as well. However, for the prices they charge, I do expect a little more from this place. My wife ordered a pasta dish and when she was finished, the bottom of the bowl was swimming in olive oil. I did like our server, however the food was really slow coming out of the kitchen for the amount of people that were in the restaurant. There were a few minor issues with the orders (olives on the salad, no dressing on the salad, no Italian salsa came out with the plate, there was a cross up on one of the pasta orders).....the waiter did his best to take care of the issue but again, for the prices they charge it seems like they should be all over these orders. I do like the atmosphere and want to see all the Door restaurants succeed, but again for what they charge it seems like a few improvements could be made in the kitchen, or work with the staff to determine what is "too much" and what is "not enough" on certain dishes and make sure everything is completely correct before it leaves the kitchen. read more

This restaurant is most definitely a diamond in the rough. Set back from the road you may miss this place, but It's worth the search. From the decor to the atmosphere to the delicious choices of Italian fare this place has it all! Would highly recommend having dinner at the Villagio if you are in Door County...it will definitely be added to our list of must visits while vacationing in Door County!!! The person who stated to ignore the low reviews may need to calibrate their taste buds with good Italian cuisine, which this restaurant does not serve. The two stars? We loved the building and the bread. However, less than mediocre food and erratic service did not compensate for ambiance and bread sticks. Friendly staff but our waitress did not know the menu and ignored the details: bring a beer glass with the type of beer we bought (and not be asked 2-3 times to bring one), bring the coffee on a tray with spoons (so we don't stir cream with a butter knife) rather than hand delivering a half cup of coffee, bring the desserts that were supposed to come with three kids meals, keep the water glasses filled, etc. All this would have been forgivable in exchange for gastronomic delights. Instead, the food lacked luster and originality. One step above fast food Italian chain restaurants, but not by much. And at $16-18 a plate (vegetarian, with no sides), you are better off choosing something else. Price point high for service and low quality food with little identity. I liked the atmosphere... nicely done murals on the walls gave it a cozy feel. The lighting was dimmer than I like. A single candle on our table didn't permit me too see what I was eating. While I like ambient lighting I don't want to eat in near darkness. My husband and I decided to try the Date Night "4 for $40" menu offering... pick one appetizer, salad, entree, dessert. Never mind the portion sizes which were ample, but I fully expected that we would each receive a plated salad, a plated entree. Nope... we were brought a single portion of each and handed a second plate. Not even a serving spoon to facilitate the transfer of a portion of those items to a 2nd plate. Half of eating in a restaurant is the food's presentation... completely lost in this process. The Italian salad came dressed with "Italian salsa". Had I realized that meant dumping a can of diced canned tomato sauce on my salad I would have known to ask for something different. The bread which comes with all meals appears to be Pillsbury refrigerated bread dough. More of a biscuit than a bread. Ours was dry and overbaked. I enjoyed the lasagne though, as others wrote, it was heavy on the sauce. That didn't bother me especially since the entree was the only decent portion of this meal. We took the tiramisu to go. A very large portion. Also the worst I've ever had. Two women across from us seemed to be enjoying their wine and pizzas. The pizza looked good. I'm tempted to try it, but I'd be so disappointed to find the crust was Pillsbury refrigerated pizza dough. (No offense, General Mills). On top of this the timing was really off. Drinks served quickly followed by a long long wait and suddenly the salad and the appetizer and the "bread" were dumped on us. I had barely finished awkwardly splitting the salad and had taken a bite of a hot tomato as our server wondered how it was. There's a fine line between ignoring a patron and being intrusive. Intrusive was the defining term here. Too many other better places to eat in Door County to waste your time and money here. read more

We ate Dinner here Tonight for Our 2nd time at Vellagio's. It was excellent... We started off with an Appetizer of Artichoke Dip which was the best I have ever eaten... Then My Husband had Lasagna and I had a Pasta made of Grilled Chicken, Mushrooms, Panchetta and Linquini Noodles in a Alfredo Sauce. Both were wonderful... We left fully satisfied... We really liked this place. We have been going up to DC for years and finally tried this place for the first time last November. Food was good and our waitess was also incredibly calm and collected while waiting for the other server to show up (she had not shown up or was either very, very late.) I had the Bistecca Margherit (steak stuffed with cheese) and it was honestly one of the best steaks I have ever had! The chef cooked it to my liking and everything was very tasty! The garlic bread with exquisite and the atmosphere was adorable. Considering it was their first or second day open of the season I think they rose to the occasion. The wait staff was extremely friendly and even though everyone was learning what was available, everyone behaved professionally & no one got flustered. I would go back here in a heartbeat. read more

Over priced & mediocre. I had the spaghetti & meatballs. The meatballs had no flavor at all! They were tasteless & a bit mushy. I made my husband try it bc I was shocked at how flavorless it was & he agreed. I was also very disappointed in how little sauce there was on the dish. My husband had the fettuccini Alfredo with chicken. It was a very bland sauce & the chicken was bland & seemed to just have been boiled in water. No seasoning or grilling for the chicken. These are two pretty basic Italian dishes that were not done well. The waitress was very friendly. However she failed to keep the drinks flowing. Amazing meal. Salad with house dressing and cheese bread that comes for the restaurant app is so good! My toddler loved the spaghetti and meatballs. I had the special crab ravioli with Alfredo sauce and husband had lasagna. There was a little too much sauce on the lasagna so maybe ask for lite on the sauce. In one word "terrible"! Hostess was more interested in putting away bottles of wine then seating us. Finally seated in the enclosed patio, next to the ant colony that had made Their homes on the wall. Ask for different seating and told there might be a wait. Finally seated upstairs next to the table that had not been bussed. Food was mediocre. Italiano salad had no flavor and olives out of a jar. Pizza crust was soggy with way too much cheese and a canned sauce. Ordered a glass of wine, which I never received. In the end spent $. 50.00 to eat soggy pizza with the ants!! Never again. Had dinner here as it was a recommended restaurant from a Door County resident. My husband and I shared the $40 meal that includes an appetizer, a salad, an entree, and a dessert and we both left the table stuffed - great value! We chose the Garlic Cheese Bread, Spinnachi salad, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and the Cannoli for dessert. All were delicious and filling, and the manager stopped by our table several times to make sure all was well. Stopped here on a bit of a whim as a couple of other restaurants we tried while heading down the penninsula were booked solid. We were fortunate they were able to seat us almost immediately. The restaurant is a converted home and my first impression was this was nothing more than a pizza joint. It certainly has character with large murals painted on the walls and ceilings (we were in the upstairs). However, what it may lack in ambiance it excels in cuisine. I got the Rigatoni Cotto (Baked pasta tubes with marinara, mozzarella & sautéed green peppers & onion) and I also added in the Italian sausage option for $2 more. GF got the lasagna. The entree was served with a garlic bread appetizer which included their marinara sauce. The food was excellent. The marinara sauce in particular was outstanding. It was a bit spicy but not hot. It balanced well with the mozzarella cheese and the chianti wine we had with the meal. They sell the marinara for $10 a (mason) jar and I'm regretting now that I didn't get a jar of it. Guess I'll wait until I return the next time. Service was very good and our server provided us appropriate amounts of attention. The servers are dressed casually (t-shirts) so dress it casual. read more

The hostess was nice, the service ok, and the atmosphere is cozy. We appreciate that they offer off season hours. The food is only decent to mediocre. The alfredo sauce was like cream soup with mushy pasta. The fish, and seemingly most everything else, was frozen and not served warm. The prices are ridiculously high, as is the case with so many so-so Door County establishments. I want to give this place a better review, but I'd have to say skip it, at least for the food. If you're stuck going here, get the pizza and not the entrees and pastas. Sadly, there are no decent Italian places in Door County, so the standard is very low. read more

We have lived in Door County for 2 years, but this is out first time to Villagios. It will not be our last! My wife and I both started with a glass of wine. The cabernet sauvignon was wonderful; full bodied without a hint of bitterness. My wife had the moscato, and said it was perfect. Next, we each had the spinach salad. Very unusual, but delicious! Bread was served with it; a giant bread stick. As some other reviews have noted, it is biscuit dough, not bread dough, but light and flavorful. Definitely not a package mix. For entrees, I had the gnocchi. Wonderful! My wife got the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The chicken was to hedge her bet- in case the Alfredo sauce wasn't up to par, she would still have the chicken to eat. The chicken was totally unnecessary. The noodles were perfectly cooked, tender but firm and flavorful; obviously home made, and the sauce was fantastic. The only part of the meal that made us lower our grade to 4 stars, was the desserts. My spumoni was odd tasting and I would never order it again, but my wife thought the tiramisu was horrible. She says it was NOT in any way related to tiramisu; instead it was a cup of rather tasteless pudding with lady finger pieces in it. If they ran out of tiramisu, they should have said so and she would have ordered the cannoli. But don't substitute pudding and pretend it is tiramisu! We will definitely be back, but we will NOT be ordering dessert. read more

Worst. Restaurant. Experience. Ever. Our first choice of restaurant was closed, and our second choice was packed. Since it was nearing the quiet season, this was not entirely surprising. So, off we went in search of a good dinner. We had driven past Villaggios many times, but never felt compelled to stop. Since we were running low on options, we decided to give them a try. It's Italian. How can anybody screw up Italian? Well, that rhetorical question was answered, much to our dismay. Our server, who is also the owner, seemed quirky at first. That quickly changed to intrusive, annoying, and unprofessional. She was singing much of the time, which was loud enough to interrupt our conversation on more than one occasion. After serving coffee, she removed the teaspoons we had been using and never bothered to replace them. We could hear her telling somebody in the kitchen what was left on our table to be cleaned (i.e. two plates, two cups, etc.), since it was clear they we hoping to close the place earlier than their posted hours and we were preventing them from doing that. Overall, her attitude was that of somebody who felt they were doing us a favor by being the only restaurant open for miles (literally). The food stayed with us, but not in a good way. The decaf coffee was awful, tasting very much like instant. What was even more strange was that the color difference between our two cups was quite obvious, lending further evidence to the theory that it was instant. The caprese salad was okay, but it seemed strange having cold marinara sauce on a salad. [They seem to think the marinara is something special, using cans of it for displays and selling jars of it in local shops. It is nowhere near as good as homemade, and several much cheaper grocery store options would be preferable.] The mushroom cap appetizer wasn't appetizing. The mushrooms were slimy, the cheese had started to re-harden, and the flavor was slightly rancid. Of course, there was marinara sauce for dipping. The main course was a small pizza, which was awful. The crust was fine around the edges, but the center wasn't fully cooked. When picking up a piece from the edge, the center part (crust and all!) remained behind. At first we thought the crust had simply torn, but further investigation revealed the doughy mess trying pass for a crust under the toppings. The tiramisu was unusual, especially since it was served in a coffee mug. Instead of the traditional balance of flavors typically found in this dessert, it was sweet to the point of being sickening. What was even more strange was a hint of liqueur taste to it, which in retrospect was likely the result of something having gone sour in it. Before the meal was over, both of us were feeling a bit queasy. Unfortunately, that feeling did not pass for nearly two full days. In case you're wondering what this delightful evening cost, it was $48. For a great meal - or even just a good one - that would not be out of line. However, we could have driven another twenty minutes and had a satisfying meal at Culver's for under $20. That is a free tip... So, if you're hungry and out of options when you pass Villaggios, take my advice and just keep driving. A bag of Corn Nuts from the gas station would be a much better choice. read more

Made a last minute reservation for porch seating on a busy holiday weekend. It was a beautiful night on the screened in porch. Our appetizer was Stromboli which was delicious. Now on to the main course, and both husband and I agreed this was THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD WE EVER HAD. I had the special of the day ravioli and he had rigatoni. And our 3 adult children raved about their dishes also. The service had a couple blips, such as a very slow start(but improved as meal went on), also a lack of water refills and the glass coffee cup was delivered barely half full. My favorite restaurant in Door County. Great Italian food in a comfortable setting. My personal favorite is the lasagna. It is simply perfect. They have a great wine selection including several locally sourced. The restaurant is in a remodeled house with one of the oldest trees in WI out front. The bartender and owner, Paul, opened this place 6 years ago. It is a bit pricy. Most entrees are $20. Salad is extra. Still,well worth it. Call ahead for reservations especially on weekends. Love Villagio's. Great for pre- theater supper before Peninsula Players or American Folklore Theater. Best Spinach/Mozzarella/Bacon salad ever. Tried the Chicago Hot Dog tonight. It was authentic with poppy seed roll as well as Vienna hot dog. Ditto for the Italian Beef sandwich. Mild Italian Guardinara was delish, but the hot was too HOT. Good wine selection. Great service and ambiance. Porch dining in summer is nice. Never rushed through dinner. Cheerful but quiet enough to converse with dinner partners. read more

The food is absolutely amazing. The servers are okay, have a hard time speaking English/understanding but they do their best and are genuinely nice and attentive. I'll say it again the food is absolutely amazing! I had the special butternut squash ravioli. Best meal on the vacation. The drinks are limited, I tried the bellini and it was enjoyable...however I recommend the Barbera as I have had it before and is much better with a meal. Overall, good time & great food. read more

We visited Door County with family and came across Villagio's somewhat by chance. Looking for pizza and the relatives said "they've never had bad food there, so why not?" What luck! The pizza (as like everything they said they've tried) was outstanding. Good crust, authentic flavors, fresh grated parm when it arrived to our table. If you are not Italian please do not try to imitate Italian cuisine....we only use the best in ingredients...obviously something the chefs (or should I say line cooks) know nothing about at Villaggios. This is the fourth time we have given this place a try since it opened. It was great the first year but the food and service is absolute crap since. I just got home after the worst pizza I have ever eaten. When I remarked that the pizza was bad - the waitress said "sorry". Not "sorry, I'll take it off your bill" just "sorry". My husband order baked most. - no baked cheese on it. My in- laws did enjoy the scallops alfredo and the lasagna but then again they have no taste buds. Our visit didn't start well when we checked in for our reservation and they forgot to seat us...then we waited 15 minutes for the waitress to take and promptly forget our drink orders. And lastly, this place is LOUD; VERY LOUD. There is nothing to reduce the sound - all hard surfaces. i am warning you now -EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE! Not worth your time. read more

Outstanding variety and the sauce is all homemade. The chef special was a lobster ravioli and it was delicious- not too oily like other places I have had this. They have great twisty bread that's soft and slightly cheesy. Definitely check this place out for a delightful Italian meal and ambiance. read more
