A friend recommended this restaurant and I am so glad we came here. We had a group of seven and were able to have the most attentive service and fabulous meal. From the craft cocktails, to the appetizers and incredible woodfired pizzas, we were all in heaven! Their menu is outstanding and includes so many unique pastas and pizzas. I overall enjoyed my meal here. We shared a pizza between our large group as an appetizer, and I thought the flavor and crust were very good. My husband and I shared the bolognese pasta for dinner, which was very expensive considering the price. I'm normally a fan of small portions, but almost $30 for the amount of pasta we got seemed overpriced. The atmosphere is cute, and our service was good, but nothing outstanding. Stopped in to get something to eat, but the signage outside made the experience confusing. Is it Della Porta? Or Blue Bear? Or another name? We bellied up to the bar and ordered some pizzas to go. I had a tasty cocktail while we waited, but not enough to drink to overcome the disappointing pizza. The crust just didn't hold up to the ingredients, and there weren't that many of them. Disappointed and Still Hungry I rarely leave reviews like this, but our experience at Della Porta was truly disappointing. The food was extremely underwhelming -- overpriced, basic Italian cuisine with little to no flavor. The entree portions were shockingly small; I've never left an Italian restaurant still hungry... until now. One of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. My dish was unacceptable. When I complained, the waiter ignored us! My sister had a delicious dish no complaints but was treated as I was. The only way to get his attention was to physically touch him! The dish I was complaining about was supposed to be pasta Bolognese however what I was served looked like a small bowl of plain pasta. The sauce that was on it was almost meatless with a watery, tasteless, tomato sauce. Most other meals we saw served other patrons were nicely presented and delicious as stated by the customers near us. My sister's dish was delicious, but she received the same treatment as I was. My husband had the special - ziti noodles were burnt - very little sauce - and 2 very small pieces of sausage. It was described by the waiter as "very spicey" however it was not - it was bland. Easily the best food in the whole door county area. Small but substantial flavor packed portions of high quality authentic Italian food with an elevated menu offering lots of interesting things rather than the typical chicken parm, etc. The service however takes it to 5 stars easily. Our waitress, who is the daughter of the owners, I forgot her name, was incredibly personable and charming even stopping to talk for a long while at the end of our meal. She is fantastic. Although it's great that a place like this exists out here I think its charm and quality are being wasted on a general population that's not build to appreciate it and what it offers. Delicious! But pricey. Drinks beautifully presented. We had the mussels appetizer (sauce to die for!) Could have used another piece of wonderful crunchy bread to soak up all that goodness. The star shaped pizza was a novelty and easily one of the best pizzas I've had (and I've had a lot!). One of our party had the chicken which was good, not outstanding. It was fun to eat outside on a late summer day, I loved the huge flower pots, but sitting so close to the road and parking lot might not be for everyone. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Disappointing, showed up for my reservation to Della Porta to sit outside and was told that they could only accommodate for outdoor seating at the pizza restaurant out back which is completely different menu. When I spoke to the owner she shared that was all they could do. When I asked why they didn't call and share they could not accommodate me, the owner shrugged shoulder saying that is all they could do. Poor customer service. Would not recommend. read more

From the moment we arrived it felt like we were spending the evening with family. Decided to dine at the bar and began with a magnificent glass of chianti. Others dining at the bar were quick to share their dinner choices and pleasure with their choices. I'm not one to generally have a pizza at a nice Italian restaurant, but chose just that. The Diavola pizza with the hot honey drizzle was likely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. While it was a bit pricey, I have come to expect that in DC. Well worth the money. Rude staff. Expensive food under the guise of it being locally sourced. Tiny portions (six noodles for a $29 pasta dish) and over-seasoned heavily (chef overdoes the pepper) be aware. Managed abysmally and they can't take care of their worn down dining room. Their "outdoor" seating means you dine next to cars inside a parking lot. Go elsewhere. This place is an embarrassment. Ellison Bay is now Little Italy! Our family was overjoyed to find out that the phenomenal talent from Milwaukee's San Giorgio had found new residence in our home away home, Door County. Everything we've always loved about San Giorgio was present in our dining experience at Della Porta, friendly and welcoming staff, delicious food and wine, and of course incredible Neapolitan style pizza. To start, we had the Barbera wine, and classic house salad. My only critique would be is that this was a little small to share for three people. Then for dinner each of us got our own personal pizzas - the Regina Margherita i.e. the queen of margherita pizzas, the Avellinese, and the pizza special of the night - the Stella, one of San Giorgio's famous star shaped pizzas. Everything was delicious and devoured in record time. Then for dessert we couldn't pass on the cannolis and some Valentine's coffee (had to shout out another Milwaukee staple :) ) Can't wait for our next trip to Della Porta! read more

The finest pizza in Door County, genuine Neapolitan pizza fired at 900 degrees for 30 seconds‼. Blend of true Italian cheeses and local farm sourced ingredients. Yum‼. Nice selection of wines and the outside La Pizzeria is wonderful. Only small drawbacks are the uncomfortable metal chairs and the Italian salads which are not to American tastes. What a nice gem. We were looking for something new and off the beaten track and came across this find. Service was attentive and friendly by the daughter of the owner which is why you go to small town restaurants. She was extremely knowledgeable and made recommendations that did not disappoint. Started with the light Italian salad which was pleasantly dressed but maybe could have used a cherry tomato or two. My husband had the perfectly cooked lamb chops. I had the fabulously fresh orecchiette with pesto and pistachios. Finished with the great Cannolo and lemon cake. Also - bonus - they had espresso which was a treat given that for some reason good coffee is hard to come by in DC. Ambiance could have used a bit more flair/southern Italian touches. The food was Phenomenal! All five us thought the food was exceptional. All entrees are Italian sized portions (we were just in Italy). 4 of us had pasta dishes and our daughter had a pizza. I would give the food 5 stars, but our server was impolite and snarky. I won't get into all the details but she was rude the entire meal. We did see at the bottom of the menu that they don't split checks. We asked before ordering if we could have 3 of us on one check and 2 on another as we didn't want our friends paying for our daughter's meal and drinks. She said we don't split checks and walked away. When we had to ask for the check when finished, she read us the total and wanted to know if wanted to split equally. We said no can we see the paper copy so we can split correctly. Then we got the "we don't do paper". She brought her little machine over and in her condescending tone started to rudely go through each item we ordered. That wasn't solving anything. read more

We had been to this restaurant in its breakfast version, Blue Bear, and loved it so we had to go back and try DELLA PORTA. It did not disappoint. The server was so nice and attentive, the food was delicious, and they accommodated our group of 11 with no issue. It's a new favorite. read more

The food here is delicious, absolutely delicious. I had the pasta Calabrese, with perfect pasta, the right amount of kick to the spicy meat and great burrata and cherry tomatoes. I asked for bread so I could sop up every bit. My friend had a gnocchi special, savory, rich and meaty. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ate outdoors because we had our dog with us. It was a nice area despite being on a fairly busy street. All in all, a very good experience and we will be back soon! read more

The food here is delicious. It is also the ONLY place in DC with real pizza. I'm a chef and cannot believe that Wild Tomato which uses canned tomato sauce and cheap plastic tasting cheese- gets better reviews! It is very clear that the disgruntled reviews are coming from people who are ignorant about food costs. Della Porta makes everything in house with the best available ingredients. THAT is why they must charge what these unsophisticated diners call 'high priced.' The prices are NOT high when you consider the quality (and therefore the cost) of the ingredients. read more

Literally a hidden gem in Door County. Everything is homemade and delicious. We have been here many times. Service is excellent. Pizza is made in wood-fired oven and terrific. The roast chicken and the parchment whitefish are superb. The meatball appetizer is so good too. So many gluten free options too - including the pizza and many that can be made vegan too. Hello everyone. Today I want to complain about a restaurant here. This is Della Porta DC restaurant. I went there last Thursday with my girlfriend. After we had dinner, my girlfriend paid. A few days later I saw that the waiter found my girlfriend's name on the receipt and sent a follow request on Instagram and I was shocked. When I called the business and talked to the manager, he said that the waiter was the boyfriend of the manager's daughter and that didn't make any sense. He hung up without even apologizing. I recommend that you be careful when eating at this place and others like it. I don't normally complain about things like this, but we had no connection with the waiter, he was not a friend or someone we knew. I wanted to write something about this issue here because the manager brushed it off and hung up. Good day everyone. read more

Regardless, not what Ellison Bay needs says 5th generation local family who spends top dollars at Door eateries. Just cancelled a take out pizza that went 40 minutes over promised time. And, we only ordered this out of desperation, ordered the same two nights ago and it was overpriced and really just dough with little toppings. Please do better and listen to these reviews. Food was good and staff was fine. But their charge for splitting a pizza seemed like an opportunity to fleece their customers. Pizza was meant to be shared. I don't object to a charge for splitting other entrees. Their system of not being able to print a physical check is also obnoxious. You don't get to see and review until you've actually paid! We were so excited to eat at Della Porta after having breakfast at Blue Bear last summer. We were utterly disappointed. The server was beyond rude, and rolled her eyes at us at one point. We asked to have the pizza without meat, and were told no. We asked to have pasta with plain red sauce or just butter and were told no. There was one other table in the dining room while we were there, we came for an early dinner at 5:30pm. We had to ask a few times if they'd make anything for kids, and they finally agreed to after making us feel stupid for asking, and being so rude about it. Then they forgot one of the kids meals and didn't apologize, they claimed they didn't hear that one. So they didn't make sure each seat at the table had an order? When the food came out it was someone from the kitchen who didn't know what dishes were whose, or what dishes they had (and how would we know which pasta dish was which we haven't seen them before.) No salt & pepper shakers on the table, and we needed them as the roasted chicken was very bland. On top of all of that they had a 22% auto gratuity. We eat out a lot, and are great tippers, but WOW. We will never go back here, which is a shame. If you have kids or have any dietary restriction don't go here, they will be rude and likely tell you no and possibly serve you food they don't know what is. The women's bathroom is also gross and scary and they had one of the two stalls out of order. read more

Pizza was delicious, should consider carryout. Server was very nice except when it came time to pay for the overpriced food all we ever saw was the tip page on the handheld. We were told it automatically goes to that page when the card is run and if we wanted a copy of the bill it could be emailed to us. The interior of the restaurant has been gutted and with no booths or carpet to absorb some of the sound it is one of the least enjoyable spaces we have eaten in. It is Union Station during rush hour. Twice customers asked to be relocated outside due to the noise while we were there. Overall, $173 for 3 10" pizzas, split plate charges, drinks and 2 desserts prices Della Porta way out of our vacation budget. We will head down the block for our pizza next year. read more
