I've brought a total of 8 garments here to be altered, and out of those, 5 were done incorrectly or not done at all. The attention to detail is lacking here. I've had pants where the legs were hemmed different lengths, one pair never hemmed at all, and many times the garments aren't ready when they're supposed to be. They operate on a cash-only basis (seems a tad sketchy for tax purposes). There is sometimes food on their work surfaces (i.e. a bowl of half eaten oranges with peels was next to a sewing machine where my pants were being hemmed). There is almost always a dog there (I love dogs, but I don't love getting back my black pants with white dog fur on them). There are ALWAYS pins on the ground near the dressing rooms/platform where measurements are taken, so don't walk out of the dressing room without shoes on (this also makes me nervous for the dog who is walking all over that area!) read more

Although the lady was very friendly, there were a lot of issues I had with my wedding dress. She used colored marker to match the buttons with the hooks on the train. The marker didn't dry and so there was a green marker smear on the white train. She did get it out with water and paper towels but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. My mom and I were horrified. When I went back the next time, there was a snag in the fabric on the bust area that needed to be fixed and there was a brown liquid splash on the train. The bottom of the bag was all brown and dirty which made a brown ring around the train since it was bustled in the bag. The bag was not dirty when I dropped it off. It looks like someone spilled a cup of coffee and my dress was sitting in it! Also she had made alterations to the bust that made them totally deformed, not nice and rounded. The material was puckering in some spots (too tight) and baggy in others (too loose). Again my mom and I were horrified. I showed up to one appointment and she hadn't worked on the dress since the last time I was there. She never even called to cancel my apt. My mom and sister drove from the northtown's to meet me there! Very annoyed. I told them to just go home and went back myself a couple hours later when she could work on it. I stayed there and waited while she kept making alterations and I kept trying on the dress. She was the only worker, so every 3 minutes someone would come in to drop off/pick up, and I had to stand there and wait. I had my dress custom made to be strapless (aka paid a lot of money) but because they couldn't get the dress to lay right in the stomach area, they ended up sewing straps on the dress anyway. The straps didn't really help anything and kept slipping off my shoulders during photos (they stopped slipping once the train was bustled after the ceremony due to the weight of the dress pulling down on the straps). She had to take the dress to the cleaners to get the brown stains out. Since it was getting dry cleaned, she had to remove all of the hooks and buttons so the marker wouldn't run (again) and then sew them back on afterward. When she picked it up from the cleaners, they hadn't actually cleaned it, so she took it back. Lots of problems, delays and expecting phone calls with updates that I never actually got. I had to call them to find out what was taking so long. The floors weren't the cleanest, so I felt worried about my white dress dragging on the floor. There were also pins on the floor everywhere (I was walking barefoot at times and I'm surprised I didn't step on one). I took the dress to her in June and my wedding was in mid September. I had my final fitting at 2pm the day before my wedding! Talk about stressed out. The dress still didn't lay flat in the stomach area, but I'm not a seamstress so I don't know if that could've been fixed or not. In the end, she charged me more than she originally quoted me. All of these problems were her fault, so why did I have to pay more money? Wont be going back. read more

Terrible I ripped a set of suit pants and took them here to see if they could be repaired. Now granted, it was a difficult repair But my question was, " are these worth fixing?" They charged me $20 for a hodgepodge patch job and I'm still throwing the pants out. I would've rated them higher if they had just told me don't bother read more

Sue at Village Tailor did an amazing job with my dress, and I'm tough to impress. When my wedding dress came in, I wasn't crazy about it. (A lot can change in a year, after all.) Fortunately, Sue knew just the changes to make to turn a "meh" dress into one that I actually love. I can't wait to wear it, and once I do, I'll add in before/after pictures so everyone can see just how wonderful her work is. I brought my dress to her with 3 weeks until my wedding, which was cutting it close for any tailor (for that big of an alteration), but especially for one as booked as Sue. She accommodated me after walking in without an appointment, and had my dress ready in 2 weeks. Not to mention, friendliness is a huge part of service in my book, and Sue is kind, sociable, and just overall a wonderful seamstress. Admittedly, I never really saw the point of people getting their clothes tailored (except for big events), but now I will most definitely be getting clothes altered -- exclusively at Village Tailor! Side note: Sue's prices are a tad high, but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for, so I think she was worth every penny. Long post but an honest one. This place is awful. Not only is the help lacking in general capacity but you may never see your clothes again. I had 4 suits brought in for tailoring and was told 2-3 weeks initially and it took double the time and cost me $315, no itemized receipt. Then, some of those needed further adjusting and I also dropped off a couple more suits (3) for tailoring, pants sliming, shoulder adjustments, lengthening, nothing unusual. I was told 2 weeks. I was quite busy but made it back about 7 weeks later and nothing had been touched. The help told me the owner wouldn't be back from vacation until the following week. I called when she was back and left a VM letting them know I am very upset and how long this has taken and that I need these clothes for work. I didn't swear or attack them but wanted to understand why they were not doing what they said they would. I was called back and told the clothes are ready. The bill came to $498. She commented when I walked in and said "I got your message... your bill came to $498." I laughed and said "You told me 2 weeks and it took 2 months and she only tailored 3 suits and 1 jacket. She was mad at me and retaliated by charging me whatever she wanted and didn't itemize that either. I requested an itemized receipt and she refused to provide. Such bad business, find another tailor if you need one!!! read more

Sue did such beautiful work on my wedding gown. It had a intricate design, and she fit it perfectly, maintaining all the beautiful details. I absolutely loved the bustle that she sewed. She was kind and a pleasure to work with and worked additional hours to accommodate finishing my dress in a short timeframe while I was in town in order to have it ready by the time I left town. I needed a suit altered & chose the Village Tailor. The dropping of experience should have opened my eyes & leave. Very little help as what I should have to make the suit look & feel good. Picking up was the same. Suite loaded with hundreds of various colored pieces of thread, suite not in a clear cover & once trying on at home, a very noticeable difference in the sleeve length so as my wife ran it to her tailor to fix. My sister recently went to Village Tailor for her wedding dress alterations and was horrified by her experience. This is her experience written by her: "From day 1 the women did not listen to me. I told her to not alter the shoulders...went back to try on and she altered the shoulders. At the second try on, we discussed how to sew in the skirt to the dress. At the third visit the skirt was not attached to the dress, and I had to wait for it to be done. The women completely forgot. While we were there for my last/third appointment, she continually took walk in alternations and made me wait in my dress while we were in the middle of the appointment. I find this very unprofessional. One of the walk ins was a man picking up his pants, and I'm not even sure she could find the man's pants after searching for several minutes, as the man left empty handed. The worst part of my experience was the payment process. I went to the business three separate times and every time there was only a sign stating that they accept only cash or check. As we pulled out the check book, she proceeded to tell us she no longer accepts checks for bridal alterations. However, this information was never made known to me at any of my appointments or phone discussions, especially given the fact that the current sign did not denote a different payment process for bridal alterations. The women argued with us, stating that she was changing her policy. But, she never notified us of this change at all. She kept saying her lawyer had told her to put a new sign up, but that she's never gotten around to it, and still demanded that we comply with this new policy change. Finally, after a good amount of time arguing, she accepted the little bit of cash we had on hand, and accepted the remaining payment in a check form. Extraordinarily rude to customers. Sub-standard/ordinary work. Poor listener as to what the customer wants. Arrogant and patronizing. Pick another seamstress-type business that represents American values of excellent customer service. I can see by the owner's response that lying is also an option when it comes to misrepresenting her services to the public. At no time did I return expecting free service. These people are unscrupulous. Go somewhere else where your business will be valued as I have done. read more

The quality of work was mediocre. $85 is way too much to hem my daughters dress but she had me hostage. If it was up to me I would have taken the dress to Rocco. He's done fine work at reasonable pricing for me in the past. I I feel I was taken advantage of because the tailor knew I had to have the dress for today's wedding. I would strongly recommend seeking the services of a tailor elsewhere. read more
