I had bought a 90$ bridesmaid dress which needed hemming. I am pretty short and not adept with stitching or embroidery or and needle work of sorts. I called Joana and she is the sweetest, nicest woman I had a conversation with. I walked in the store and loved talking to the other customers as well. However, the charges for hemming my bridesmaid dress came down to 90$. Seemed like there were three layers that needed to be trimmed. For me it was rather an extravagant price to pay so I decided to let it go and learn stitching myself. I guess that was pretty expensive for me and while researching I did find other places that were cheaper. Zero Stars. Took dress in and was told to return in 2 weeks. Upon return it was discovered that Joanna never altered it and we were now to return 3 days later. Upon return the dress was BUTCHERED. The straps were not the same size, thread was everywhere. The one strap was so altered that my daughter's arm barely fit. Joanna basically said "oh well". Additionally, Joanna asked (in front of my 10 year old) if my daughter had "gained weight" AND then told my daughter she could only "eat soup for the next 2 weeks to fit into the dress". I was appalled. I took the dress to 2 different alteration shops who said she really messed up the straps and it would be almost impossible to fix without rebuilding the top of the dress. With the wedding in 1 week I had to buy a new dress on Amazon for my daughter to wear. I am extremely disappointed in Joanna and will never ever recommend her to anyone.​ read more

I have been bringing my pants here to be hemmed or taken-in for a few years and have never run into any issues. They have reasonable prices, reasonable turnaround times and are generally quite friendly. One time when a very small section of the hem fell out in a pair of dress pants that i was bringing in, she quickly hemmed it right then. It was perfect! One of the Very Important things about a wedding is the dress. I had bought my dress almost a year before the wedding, way ahead of schedule. It fit, but not great. But for whatever reason I was so nervous about taking it to a seamstress. So I procrastinated. A lot. A friend of mine recommended I come to Joanna's, so I did. When I called the man who answered had a thick accent and seemed very concerned about the timeframe - so was I. My first fitting was okay, Joanna also has a thick accent and just sort of yelled "I shorten, I shorten!" and pinned some things. I wasn't totally happy with how I thought the dress would look on my big day, so I went back to tell her I wanted some of the sides taken in. Again, worried by the time frame, but she went pinning away asking if that's what I wanted. I went to pick up the dress 2 days before my wedding - we just had to put a bustle in place and I'd be on my merry way. But it couldn't be that simple... Joanna advised me that a bustle wouldn't work well with the fabric and that she suggested to trim off the train. I'd had a pretty trying few days leading up to the wedding; I had to work, one of my bridesmaids bailed due to illness, I was paying a lot of people a lot of money, I practically studied meteorology so I could make sure it wouldn't rain. So I cried a bit. Accepted. She took out the terrifying shears. And started cutting. I'd never heard fabric being cut make SUCH A LOUD, terrifying noise. Then it was done. She said I could come back the next day to get the dress. The only good thing about that fitting was that some girl came in with dry cleaning and said "The dress looks so good on you I thought you were a mannequin." The next day, THE DAY before my wedding I went to get the dress with my Mom in tow. It looked great. Felt great. Although I missed the beautiful train, it was a lot easier to walk and dance in (which I planned to do a lot of!) Joanna was sort of a crazy lady who I couldn't always understand, but in my experience with tailors and seamstresses, they are the best to have. read more

Joanna's is a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. It's located in the plaza directly across the street from the Marriott hotel. It's located right next to Santoras pizza. Walking in, I was greeted by Joanna herself. Before I went in, I had called to see if I could get a dress hemmed last minute. She was extremely accommodating, and had suggested that I come in so she can take a look at the dress so she can give me a better estimate rather than just giving me a price on the phone. Upon arrival, she asked me to try on the dress and was really thorough about where I wanted the hem. She pinned the dress and to my amazement said she could have it done Friday afternoon (took the dress in on a Monday!)! I haven't gotten the dress back, yet! But I'm already impressed with the customer service and her attentiveness! read more

Joanna is wonderful - the man that works there is awful. I will never bring them any business again. I asked for a 5 day turnaround, understanding that he might not be able to accommodate. Instead of saying no, I had to hear 100 complaints about me and other customers. If you're looking to be belittled and to serve as a sounding board for a sad, bitter business owner, Joanna's is your place! If you're looking for good service, I would suggest driving past Joanna's to any other tailor shop in the area - or really just about any stranger's doorstep, because I would rather have them hem my pants than this blithering idiot. I will never return again - which shouldn't be a problem for him, since he told me never to return again. This is the only part of the story where we were on the same page. If my review can prevent one person from going to this place, I will die a happy man. I just hope when I do, that my family doesn't stumble upon a funeral home owned by him. DO NOT GO HERE. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!!!!!! When I dropped off my dress a week ago, Joanna promised me it would be ready Wednesday at 3pm. Wednesday at 1pm I called to confirm it would be ready and Joanna seemed very confused on the phone and hadn't even started my dress yet, and asked me to come in at 5:30 and it would be done then. I came in at 5:30 and she showed me a dress THAT WAS NOT MINE. I said that's not my dress and she looked everywhere for my dress until she found it. SHE HADN'T EVEN TOUCHED IT! Over a week and I was expecting a nice little shortened hem and press and she hadn't even STARTED. She seemed soooo inconvenienced that she needed to hem my dress past her closing time of 6pm when it's nobody's fault but hers it didn't get done. She told me to come back AGAIN at 6:30 and my dress was hemmed and very, very wrinkly. I asked if there was any way I could get a reduced price since $80 for less than an hours worth of work shortening a dress seemed ridiculous to me considering I had to go back TWICE after calling to confirm it would be ready. Instead of being empathetic and apologetic, she just went on about how she had to work past closing time to get this done and showed NO remorse for the headache and wasted time and gas this cost me. In 2009 I took my wedding dress here. There was a black gal in front of me who was also getting her wedding dress altered. The woman there was professional and kind to her, and then had her pay the price of alterations upfront. We went through the same routine, getting the length figured out. Then she asked me for a small deposit. I asked her why did the other girl have to pay the entire cost but I didn't? She replied that it was because people "like her" don't always pick up her dresses. I don't even know where to start, Joanna is just so awesome. I purchased a gown from a bridal shop with intention of having the shape altered ever so slightly, making it more fitted and slightly more trumpet style. There was also some concerned about making the bust area more modest. - it had a 3 inch "v" showing a little more cleavage than appropriate for a mother of the bride. The bridal shop assured me these alterations would be no problem. 5 months later When the dress finally came in, the seamstress there indicated it could not be done as I wanted. So....I went to joAnna. She not only agreed completely with the changes I wanted, she came up with a clever idea to make the bust area more modest and add an element of Wow to the dress. Diamond in the rough. Joanna and her brother could possibly be the kindest, most honestly, most talented and fairly priced business owners in the entire Buffalo area. Joanna is an artist, brilliant and a gem. I purchased a dress off ebay (my first mistake) for a steal and thanks to Joanna being a master of her craft it fit beautifully when she was finished! When I took it to her it was used, yellowed, already altered from the first bride and too small everywhere aside from the bust (and I'm a DD, this dress was altered down to the tiniest waist I think I've ever seen so the first wearer's body must have been bangin'!) Joanna was able to perform a miracle and I couldn't have been happier with my dress on my wedding day. If I could figure out a way to post a picture of my dress I would. I went to Joanna because of her positive review and after trying to do business with her three times I feel compelled to write a review discouraging anyone from doing the same. My first time in was for a bridesmaids dress. Long story short she did not take enough off the halter and hemmed it too high and unevenly. Luckily I had worn heels to the fitting and changed to a lower heel to mask the hem. Second time was for an evening gown for a cruise. I tried the dress on for her and she said to me that it was the wrong dress for me and to return it! I could not believe my ears! I told her to please take in the straps and say no more. I went to pick up my dress only to see that she had reversed a strap causing it to twist! My final time was taking one of my husbands shirts and a pair of pants to her for basic mending. She told me to come back in a week. I did and she had apparently closed early that day with no note on the door. I returned the next day only for her to tell me she didn't do any of the work because she noticed a few hairs on the pants and was too busy to call me! I grabbed my clothes and left.
