Now, I don't know how many bridesmaid dresses you have worn, but I have had more than my fair share. I know all the ins and outs of bridal shop alterations - and I have learned that you should avoid the in-store alteration service at all costs. Literally all costs - they always seem to over-charge and under-deliver. I can recall countless disappointments in this arena. Given my prior experience with the particular shop we purchased the dresses from (see review of Alfred Angelo), I decided to take my alteration business elsewhere. After scanning reviews and asking around, I went with the shop closest to my home - about 1,000 feet from my driveway (convenient, eh?). I headed over to Chayban pretty well-informed about their history and reputation. I had heard good things about the Williamsville location and decided I would stop in my local shop to chat with them regarding my frumpy shape and flirty dress style. Upon arrival I was greeted by a smiley woman who was clearly a successful multitasker. She paused from her phone call to say hello and let me know she would be only a moment or two. I wandered around the rather bare storefront somewhat dreading the fitting. To my dismay, I realized the fitting area and mirrors were right in the front area of the store, in view of all of the Elmwood Village. In that moment, I seemed to forget that I would be wearing this gown in front of 200 of my bff's closest family and friends, and I found myself feeling nervous and a bit exposed. There was comic relief when she began cracking wedding jokes and pinning the dress into shape. She assured me my dress would be ready in a few days despite a missing strap. She had great suggestions for troubleshooting the strap issue just in case. I got that other dress strap to her the next afternoon (pfew) only to find out a young man would be executing my second fitting. He was very polite. He quickly checked my pins and sized my straps. He again assured me the turnaround would be speedy and my dress was officially sent out to be altered. A few days later I received a call from Chayban letting me know it should only be another day or two for the completed work. I was really really happy to receive this unexpected call. The work was still on time and the courtesy was not lost on me. I was so impressed. No, really I was. I received my pick up call right on time and made it in just before closing time the same day. Fifty dollars later my dress was altered, pressed, and strappy. I was very happy with the results. The fit was great. They even suggested I try it on again at home with my shoes and call if there were any problems. Although some have told me this price was steep, I disagree. It was certainly cheaper than the sub-par work I expected from the bridal shop. The alteration was completed in less than 7 days. The service alone was worth half the fee. The courtesy "Hey, we haven't forgotten about you and your friend's big day" made me feel like the world is just a little bit smaller than sometimes we realize. I rocked out in that dress all night and never had so much as a stray thread. I rarely have alterations, but you can bet that if I do, I am headed straight back to Chayban. read more

I got a pair of pants hemmed I wore them one time and the hems fell apart.My husband got his alterations to his military uniform- that was done really well. Then he got pairs of pants hemmed and they were hacked (uneven), too short and didn't last. So the fact that the quality is OK at its best and crappy at its worse...don't go here people go somewhere else. read more

They don't take measurements. Who ever heard of a tailor that doesn't take measurements? Of course there were mistakes. Just because it's menswear doesn't mean you shouldn't take measurements. I had a jacket and two pants altered. The jacket was fine. One pair of pants wasn't hemmed enough, and was tightened in areas that didn't need tightening. It's unwearable. If they weren't denim that may stretch a bit they'd be done. The other pants were hemmed too much. read more

He asked me what length I prefer on my pants, and it was nice to feel like I was involved in the process. The male worker (I forgot his name) was super friendly, fixed it and was in and out within 5 minutes! I dropped off my laundry for rush service only to find the clothes I needed had simply been placed on hanger and returned to me unwashed. They smelled very bad and still had dirt on them. I tried to resolve the issue with them but they told me that the clothes were probably cleaned and just not "up to my standards". These clothes were clearly unwashed. Excellent work. I had three items that needed alterations, palazzo pants that were too long, a lined wrap dress that had a hideous long uneven skirt and a skirt that had an elastic waist that persistent in rolling each time I wore the skirt. So let me start by saying that even prior to bringing my bridesmaid dress and my sons suit to Chayban I called and in detail explained what I needed done to both items and explained that the dress came in late and only had 2 weeks until the wedding, I was 100% assured that my garments would be fitted, altered and returned within 7-10 days. This was perfect, it was close to my house and the gentlemen that had addressed my issue was VERY assuring that my things would be perfect when returned. Unfortunately that was not the case I dropped my items off that Saturday, and after the fitting was promised both my son's suit and my dress would be done and ready for pick-up that following Friday. I was ecstatic that I was able to have my things back and in case they needed further alterations I would have time to have them done. Friday came and went without a phone call, so I simply figured that since I had stated that I worked until late that Friday and would pick them up Saturday when I was off so I figured that I would recieve a call Saturday instead. Around 1pm on Saturday I hadn't heard anything so I called them. They asked me what items I dropped off and when I was told they would be ready, I explained what I had and that my items were due back the previous day. I was then told that his mother does the alterations at a different location and he would check with her and call me back. I didn't hear back from him. I called again Monday morning wondering what the hold-up was, and again he assured me that he was going to call his mom and call me back. Again no return phone call, Again I called Tuesday and again no return call. Wednesday I called and a young lady answered the phone and stated she was going to call me back and almost hung up on me before I reminded her that she needed my phone number in order to return the call seeing as how she didn't have my slip at the store. Now I'm getting EXTREMELY nervous my sister's wedding is in 2 1/2 days and my dress is no where to be found and NO ONE will return my call or tell me where my things are. Thursday morning I called again, and again I get the gentleman that couldn't be bothered to return any of my calls, Again I ask if my things were done and again he tried to give me the run around. At this point I had had enough and told him done or not I will be picking up my order at 5 pm that day. Two hours later I recieve a voicemail from him stating my son's suit had been ready and that his mom was starting work on my dress as we speak. Now let me remind you that my dress is already 5-6 days past due. On the message he assured me it would be done and ready for pick-up after 5pm that day. I went to pick up my things around 5:30. My son's suit was fine, it was a simple hem of the sleeves and a cuff in the pants. My dress on the other hand was FAR from being done properly. The straps were still an inch too long, the front of my dress was an 1 1/2" longer than the back and there were strings hanging off the bottom of the dress all the way around it. I was so disappointed and mad to say the least. That I paid the bill in full (which was not even adjusted after all of that) and turned to leave. On my way out the gentleman then announced to me that he had just purchased a cleaners and that if I wanted I could take my things there the next day and have them pressed. I declined and left the store. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON. The customer service is poor at best along with the work they do. read more
