Liz Tailors - The happy "after" picture with my son on his wedding day. The "before" is in David's Bridal.

Liz Tailors

This was my fist time going to Liz and I needed an emergency job done a few days before my son's…read morewedding! Here's the story: I had bought my dress at David's Bridal on the Blvd in Tonawanda, N.Y. and BEFORE purchasing it, I asked if they would be able to make it into shorter, cap like sleeves, as it was a long sleeved dress but I loved it! No way I could wear long sleeves in mid-July! So they said yes, and I bought it. I went for my first fitting and was told there was no guarantee they would be able to shorten them more than an inch, after being told BEFORE I bought it, that there would be no problem! The girl rolled up the sleeve at the seam and pinned it saying they would "try", and if they couldn't, it would still be pinned when I picked it up and I would have to decide if I wanted to keep them long or have them hem them slightly shorter by hemming the bottom and lose the pretty scalloped lace on the bottom of the sleeves. The also charged me $121 in advance, even though BEFORE the appointment I had been quoted $40 for the simple hem and "around" $25 for the sleeves!! I payed about double!!! I went for the "second fitting", joke, and the sleeves had been sewed just as they were roughly rolled up at the first fitting ...was as long as in the beginning, barely an inch shorter!! I just picked it up and left. I told them how disappointed I was, and thought there had to be a way, to which they said again that they could hem it from the bottom and ruin it. A week later, 4 days before my son's wedding, a neighbor told me about Liz when I was telling her what happened. I wish I would have had that chat earlier!! I called her, she said to bring the dress in and she'd see what could be done. She agreed with me- it WAS possible to shorten them without losing the dainty edge! I wish so bad I would have met her first!! She did such a beautiful job on my dress and did WAY more work than David's did and charged me less than their original quote for just the hem..under $40!!!! She couldn't believe they had charged me $121 for what looked like about 5 minutes of work!! David's never even cut the extra material off the sleeves where they rolled and sewed them so they were bumpy. Her's were perfect! I was SO happy with HER finished product. I got SO many compliments on my dress and no one could tell it had been altered, it looked like it was meant to have those cap sleeves!! Thank you SO much Liz for saving the day by me feeling comfortable with my dress and letting me enjoy the day with no worries!!

If you're looking for a low stress, tailor who can meet a deadline, find someone else. I started…read morewith a bridesmaid dress in March and it was finally done 6 days before the wedding I needed it for in September. That feels like far more time than needed. I had my dress taken in, hemmed and without discussion she put in these clasps to hold up bra straps. At the time I thought the idea was nice, but the reality of wearing the dress for 9+ hours, the fabric used rubbed my shoulders so bad I have scrapes where it rested. The original price quoted was $50, we talked about hemming in my first appointment, get to the end to pay and she charged me another $20 because it needed to be hemmed more. I feel like that's on you, for not hemming it right in the first place, and we didn't discuss an additional charge. The first appointment she wasn't writing anything down, I asked her too, she said she would remember. Well each appointment after that either nothing was done or all the changes weren't done and I had to keep coming back. And with each appointment, it was rescheduled due to changes not being done on her end. One appointment she texted the bride to say we needed to reschedule, not me, even though we had a group chat and she had my number. So I showed up for my appointment, and she made it my fault asking why I was even there. Well when you don't communicate, people tend to show up for appointments they have. The work was a 7/10, not bad, but it certainly wasn't amazing out of this world. And for all the time and rescheduling I would have expected a near perfect product, without scratchy fabric. For the bride I was with, she wanted a heart sewn into her dress from her mom's dress on the slit of her dress, this was discussed at 2 appointments. Again nothing was written down she insisted she would remember. We came to her last appointment, 6 days before the wedding. And the heart was sewn into the bust. While I understand the idea and it's nice, it's not what the bride, who's paying for this service wanted. When she asked her to put in another heart she came into the room (bride was upset and stressed) she grabbed the dress, turned around, slammed the dressing room door and yelled Jesus Christ and went back into her sewing room. She later apologized but I'm confused how you're upset at us, the customer, for your mistake. Over all it could have been a great experience, and it just wasn't. Then getting an up charged not discussed, and attitude at the end I could never recommend or go back.

The price included every single piece with alterations, which was great! We chose to pay extra for zubaz lining inside the coats. I did not like that they have a kinda limited color selection. We were looking for tan/brown/beige and I think there was only like 5 shades to choose from. We finally found one we both loved and when the groomsman all went in to get fitted initially, they did try to convince my husband to pick a different suit! Eventually they called us again and said the manufacturer wasn't making the suits we wanted anymore, how convenient. We picked out new suits and they got ordered however, when they came in and nobody called to tell us so we never knew to go in to try them on for additional tailoring- we had to call them. When we went in to try them on it was about 1-2 weeks before the wedding. The inside lining we ordered extra was not sewn in yet and there were still final alterations that needing to be made with some of the arm and leg cuffs. They said come back and pick them up the week of the wedding. We went back again maybe 3 days before and still needed more alterations. The whole thing was just cutting it super close to the wedding and the amount of issues with the alterations and another one with our ring bearers suit was just so much added stress that probably could have been avoided. I would like to add though, they tailor everything, not just suits.
