Then ordered 2 slices of pie to go at the check out counter. She said it would be a few minutes because there were other people checking out. Okay. Can't ever complain about the VI. This place been around since I was born and now my kids love going here. This weekday on a work outing we choose the VI for late breakfast. I chose the blueberry pancakes with an egg on the side. There was like 15 of us so the food did take some time but worth it. The huge plate sized pancakes arrived and looked super delicious. There was no need for syrup as I like my egg over the pancakes and the yoke drizzle over. I was super hungry cause I didn't leave a bit behind. Not sure why this location has so many bad reviews! My two brothers and I came on a busier Friday morning. We were seated right away and our lovely server Emoney was at our table within 2 minutes. I could tell she was busy with many other tables, however, she kept checking in with us and apologizing, even though we were not waiting long! Stopped by here for a late lunch. Wait staff was very polite. Overall the hamburger was tasty and automatically cooked to med well. Fries were soggy and not many as pic shows. What servers earn less then $3 an hour and they Still have to claim 15% of bill no Matter What customers leave as Tip!!! The so-called manager Celest working today in the afternoon. Didn't accept my service dog because my dog was not wearing a vest and even though I had proof by providing digital ID card. She refused and said my dog needed a vest by "Texas law " which is bs if she actually knew according to the ADA Service Dogs are not required to be outfitted with a vest or any type of identifying gear. Service has gone down hill rapidly. My family eats out 3 to 4 times a week. This past weekend they totally messed up our orders. Poor communication and chaos from our wait staff. Yesterday evening I called two dinners in. When I arrived Brittany said she tried calling me back to let me know about probs with my order. I showed her my phone log and not one call. First the good since this will be fast... -tons of waitresses/waiters -manager on the floor -clean (it is brand new) -we were warmly greeted Bad -after bringing our drinks we were undecided on what to have so asked for her to come back in a minute, 15 minutes later she came back for us to place our order -it took about 45 min for out plates to come out and they were not very busy at all. 45 min for some eggs and pancakes what is going on -i ordered the vegetable and chicken omelet with egg substitute, wheat pancakes and fruit. The omelet was the smallest omelet I have ever seen, there wasn't a piece of chicken in the whole thing, and the worst part is it was covered in butter disgusting. The pancakes were ehhhh. My friends eggs were also covered in butter and pancakes were un-eatable. -the manager came over to check on us and we told her all the issues she asked if we wanted something else we said no but would like to try a piece of coconut pie....the pie was dang near tasteless. Went this evening for dinner and it didn't take long to sit us. Waiting for food was a different story. Took about 15 minutes to trans our drink order then about another 5-10 minutes for our food order. We ordered 2 turkey sandwiches one with fries and a HOT cup of soup. Thirty minutes later we get a not even warm soup. Waitress asked me if I ordered soup too, I ordered fries. Eight minutes later she brings me a wrong sandwich and tells me to enjoy my meal. When I asked for my husband's sandwich she looked surprised and then asked if he ordered a sandwich too. I spoke with manager and complained about horrible service. I think she sent too much time putting on those horrible fake lashes. I've been there before when it's crazy busy and never received horrible service like today. read more

So as you guys can tell, I visit this place fairly often. But I just tried their ultimate skillet; which is a first for me, because I NEVER get anything other than my usual corned beef hash and eggs. Today, I decided to try a skillet of theirs as I was walking by another patron's table and saw his. As usual, Village Inn never ceases to amaze me. The first thing I noticed about their skillet is that they don't deliver it to you excruciatingly piping hot like Denny's does. I dunno...perhaps some people like their food deep fryer hot because they're afraid the food might not be cooked enough. But if I'm sitting down to eat breakfast, chances are I'd like to bite into my food immediately....as opposed to waiting 15 to 20 minutes for the food to reach an edible temperature. That's the frustrating thing about the skillets as Denny's. They're delicious, but also served at unsafe temperatures. Anyone that's been around food for more than a day realizes that potatoes absorb a lot of heat fairly quickly and for lengthy periods of time. But I digress. Overall, the ultimate skillet is the way to go for yours truly when it comes to skillets. I just replace the sausage with bacon only (because I find sausage nauseatingly disgusting) along with some eggs over easy and I've got perfection on a skillet. All the flavor with JUST the right amount of heat. No need for a cool down period with this dish. I should mention that despite having a trainee accompany our server, service was still on point! That is why, at long last, I am giving one of my favorite breakfast places of all time 5 stars (for THIS location only though). Far as I'm concerned, they rank right up there with Jimmy's Egg in Oklahoma. read more

My wife and I went there yesterday. We had not been there for about a year because the last time we went our food was burnt. So you went to give it another shot and we regretted it. So we both got water and my wife ordered a skillet with sunny side up eggs and a side of toast. The waitress came back with coffee. We told her we ordered water. My wife had asked for no green peppers in her skillet and asked if she could have extra mushrooms. The skiller already comes with mushrooms. So the food took forever to come out and when it did the skillet had green peppers. The waitress asked if we wanted a redo. My wife said no that's fine because she was hungry. So she ate one egg and then she dug into the skillet only to find there were no mushrooms at all. So I called over the waitress and explained what happened and she kind of gave me attitude saying that she had already offered me a redo. I had to tell her that we said no to the redo because my wife didn't mind the peppers but we didn't know that there were no mushrooms until she dug into it. So we waited for the skillet to come out again and it came out without eggs. My wife asked where's the eggs and the waitress said she had to ask the manager. My wife said forget it and she started to eat the skillet. When she started eating she quickly found out that the mushrooms were not cooked. So this time I called over the manager and explained what happened. At this point my wife didn't want to eat there anymore so the manager offered to remove the skillet from the bill. We waited for the bill and we were given the wrong bill. So we had to wait to get the waitresses attention and ask for the correct bill. When the bill finally came they had charged my wife for the two eggs, of which she had only eaten one. I was still planning to leave the waitress a tip but after being charged for the eggs I had had enough. This is probably the third time in my life that I didn't leave a tip. The service was slow, had attitude, made several mistakes. I'm sorry but I can't leave a tip for that poor service and and then your going to nickel and dime me and charge for the eggs. Only go to this location if you want mediocre food and horrible service. We hesitantly go every time knowing that we'll be here for 3+ hours. It's like a running joke at this point, just like the service. Rude hostesses that only check on the table when you're eating (so you can't ask for anything) and then they suddenly disappear to the back for hours. We waited an insane amount of time, like 45 minutes to ask for dessert. Found lipstick on my fork, the food was cold, and I had to call over a manager to even get some service. Which wasn't every helpful at first because she told me to just place orders with our server but she was nowhere to be seen. My first time there was also terrible, I was rushed by the hostess to order because she was "behind" on her orders when it wasn't even busy. Never received such rude and shitty service, and then you wonder why you don't get any tips. Fix the place, the young managers and staff need some training because everyone here is rude. read more

We gave this place another shot after having this happen previously thinking maybe things got better. We ate our leftovers later on in the day and found winged bugs (bigger than gnats but smaller than house flies) cooked into the pancakes. They did offer to replace them and a pattial refund.
