I came here for a date and it's really the perfect, cute and aesthetic spot in Georgetown. Staff are nice, drinks are good, prices are a little high and bathrooms are gender neutral which isn't my favorite but overall a great spot for couples, friends and family. I really want to give 5 stars because Villa Yara has almost everything perfectly done and it may just be the dishes I ordered, but everything was too bland and... crunchy. Without butchering the name, I will describe what we ordered. We got the "spicy" red pepper hummus, roasted eggplant, hummus, and ground beef sausage. The red pepper wasn't spicy at all, the hummus was pretty standard, roasted eggplant was good but had too much filler (some crunchy pita and nuts), and the ground beef sausage was the best. But the nuts, omg the nuts. There were so many nuts in the red pepper hummus and the eggplant dish. I wanted a smooth, mushy, bite to spread on the warm, endless pita, but it was all CRUNCH. I like a little bit as garnish at the top, but it felt like it was filler at this point. The dishes themselves lack much depth of flavor but I didn't expect anything to be too heavily spiced but the nut to other ingredients ratio was just too high to make this meal enjoyable. My trip plans to Lebanon seem to be indefinitely on hold, but to satisfy my curiosity on what it must be like to pass through the contentious suburbs of Ghoberry and enter the posh streets of Downtown Beirut, Villa Yara gets the job done well for now. My favorite of the breakfast options, which can be enjoyed on the sunny patio out back while listening to retro Fairuz hits, was the ful, which came topped with a healthy dallop of olive oil that gave the dish an undeniable richness. The muhammara was also excellent, and if I had one complaint about the meal, it was the somewhat miserly portion of eggplant hidden under the pita chips in the fattet batinjan. read more

I took it all in and appreciated it! I am so pleased we got to try this place. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children visiting from out of town. We were seated upstairs. A bit of an inconvenience to carry the stroller up the stairs, but we made it happen nonetheless. It was worth it. And it was quite spacious upstairs with the high chairs already in place for us. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, so parking in the area was a bit of a nightmare. Just a heads up. All the dishes we ordered were vegetarian. Loved the mhammara, which was a teeny bit spicy just the way I like it. Texture was great. Presentation of all the food is excellent. Jbene rkakat were delicious, so was the hummus and warak 3enab. I probably wouldn't order the spinach pie again because I expected it to be done the traditional way and not in a puff pastry (just wasn't what I was going for). Flavor was okay though. Labneh was good too but not necessarily a repeat for me. Had the gin basil drink (called jnayneh on the menu) and it was done just right! Thank you for having that on the menu. What a pretty place! We went on a perfect spring evening and sat in the courtyard, which gave us LA/Abbot Kinney Vibes. The exterior is seamless from the restaurant's interior, whitewashed, and filled with flowers and twinkling lights and a little fountain in the center. The service was great despite the restaurant being jam packed for Ramadan. We started with the hummus and warm puffy pita and fattoush salad. The waiter brought a little dish of olives and nuts. Delicious. The salad was a little overdressed and the pita was deep fried and layered on top of the salad, almost like fried wontons. Pretty, but a bit disappointing. We had a Bronzino platter. Another beautiful dish, lined with potatoes and baby broccoli and dipping sauces. And dumplings filled with sausages and covered with yogurt, the dough maybe a little heavy. After walking for about 2 hours around the Tidal Basin, we found a spot to have a delicious and rewarding meal. We walked in and requested a table for 2, luckily there was a table available, but I would happily accept sitting on the bar area anytime! The decor is beautiful and inviting! Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner or elevated-casual night with friends. I loved every single dish we got, all of them were vegetarian and under $20. I love eating a lot and did not have much for lunch, so the mezze style was more than enough for my hungry stomach! The service was incredible and the servers know what the real deal is! They do encourage people to try something new that will blow their senses. My favorite dish was the "FATTET BATINJAN" which is fried eggplant, pita chips, a yogurt tahini sauce topped with fried nuts ($18), after you mix it turns into a beautiful mess of crunchiness creaminess and the tang of the yogurt and zest of the pomegranate! As well the "ARNABEET" fried cauliflower some hazelnuts resting on top tahini taratoor with tahbishe ($14) for all my cauliflower lovers this dish is a must! We also had their MOUHAMARA ($14) because is our favorite dip! We agreed that the flavor wasn't as strong as mouhamara normally is, tasted more "refreshing" in an interesting way! We received some marinated olives on the house, that completed our "GIRL DINNER"! Their pita bread was really fluffy, and kept its consistency through the dinner! We had a really lovely time at Villa Yara! My friend and I came for drinks and small bites, we sat at the bar and had a great bartender who gave excellent recommendations for both food and beverages. The Jnaineh and Georgina's cocktails were both great- Jnaineh is very basil-forward, but fresh, and Georgina's is perfectly balanced and very Instagrammable :) We ordered the sujuc jibne (like a cheese and sausage flatbread) and the batata harra (hot cubed potatoes) as snacks, and really liked both- the potatoes were seasoned and cooked absolutely perfectly. Was excited to try Villa Yara shortly after they opened! Nestled away on the edge of Georgetown, there's ample seating inside and even more outside. There was not much shade outside, so on a hot summer day most people preferred sitting inside, but the outdoor decor was definitely a vibe! They had a long list of cocktails, and Mocktails (love an inclusive restaurant!) and the main food menu delineated which options were "V" "VG" "N" or "GF" which was really helpful since I was dining with my gluten free friend! We started with the hummus and the Yara ghanoush. Both were really tasty, but came with pita. Since my friend is gluten free, we asked for a side of vegetables instead which they were happy to do but at an up charge which seemed unfair! We tried the sayadieh which was a bit bland but definitely a large portion. We also went with the arnabeet which was not gluten free but maybe one of my favorites. The batata hara was good basic potatoes, and the grilled chicken was maybe our favorite, however the kafta fell short. We finished up trying the yara's dream dessert which was a flavor I've never had before, but it was delish! A really cool traditional dessert. Overall, this place is cute and definitely a vibe, but the food didn't blow me out of the water and wasn't extremely authentic tasting. I would like to come back and try more of their menu, as well as give them some more time settling in as a new restaurant! I also want to say service was excellent. FIVE stars for food and two for service!! The service was horrible on a Sunday night - it took 25 minutes to get our order in. The ambience is pretty but since they closed their garden for the night it was sooo packed and crazy loud. The music was echoing so loudly all over and the restaurant was way too hot. However the food was amazing!! So fresh and healthy and extremely filling. I tried the plain hummus which was delicious and served with fresh hot bread right out of the oven. I also tried the chicken kebab app - a really good size and the chicken was so tender and came with yummy veggies. Lastly, the branzino was the best I've ever had! I've been to this place a few times. The food is just ok- the quality of the chicken kebab was terrible and tasteless. And the pita was cold, dry and hard. Not fluffy and soft. The hummus with lamb also lacks flavor as does the baba ghanoush. Desserts are not that great either. Their best dessert is baklava with ice cream- nothing unique or special. What really did it for me was that there was a HAIR in my food. I showed my waiter which he promptly took my dish away, but he DID NOT APOLOGIZE. In fact, he came back and said "no one has hair like that so it must be.. [gestures to me and my friends]." I pointed out the hair was blonde and thin. My friends and I have thick black hair. I thought it was extremely rude and unprofessional to not even have the manager come over to apologize, let alone blame me and my friends. I didn't want to cause a scene and just left it as is. This place is special. Everything from the interior design to the plates to the garden to the stairs all customized to pay homage to Fairuz's song Yara just pure perfection. I saw some bad reviews so I thought it would be like 3-4 stars but I was really pleasantly surprised honestly. I came with a group of 7 people and we all rated it a 10/10 I believe we got to meet the owners and they were the nicest people. The bread was amazing always baking in house you can tell it's straight out of the oven. The workers are super nice and incredible really. I got half the menu with my friends and everything was so good. Best lamb chops I've probably ever had and I don't really like lamb chops. Also you know they make everything fresh because they let you make adjustments. We were given free cookies at the end and got free mocktails and a discount because the owners were super nice. It makes me sad to say I wasn't a fan of this place. My bf picked this for date night and we came in at 8:35 for an 8:30 reservation but still had to wait for a table. We were given only one menu at the start because "its busy, we don't have enough menus", but our server managed to get a second one. The food was the letdown for me. The overall flavor profile was tart or sour. I have had lebanese food before, heck at another restaurant in DC just a few months back and thoroughly enjoyed all of that. I don't know why the food here just did not taste remotely close. The only dish I liked was the cauliflower. I was not a fan of the lamb sausage with pomegranate molasses, the Yara ghanouj, the spinach fattayer, and was ok with the baked fish and spicy rice dish. And only one pita for 2 people? We had to ask for an extra one. If the Yara ghanouj is a dish that is a dip, you're really not providing pita bread with that? Absurd. I'm not a lamb person, but the diced lamb on top of the hummus was so good and really elevated the dish. It was our favorite of the night. We were met by our server Andrea who was very kind and informative of the menu items. Villa Yara is the type of restaurant where you can expect to share your items family style as they are all small dishes. They will bring pita and a sort of olive mixture prior to ordering. As a group of 7, I believe we ordered 8 items (two of the kibbeh as only 3 pieces come with it) and received pita refills throughout. All of the food is good and tasty. I will say that if you're not familiar with middle eastern/Mediterranean food, it will be a different pallet. We came for a birthday and the restaurant was kind to provide a complimentary dessert with a candle for our celebrant. The manager was also kind to continually check on guests in the restaurant. Having come on a Thursday evening, we did not know that it would be as busy as it was so I highly recommend booking a reservation. In addition, around 8pm there was live music entertainment. The gentleman that sang was quite talented, shifting through different languages with ease! His performances truly made the night memorable and spectacular. We overordered a bit so I suggest to order a few things and see how it goes. The food is very filling and the serving size varies depending on the entree/meal ordered. The place is very homey and welcoming. The restaurant played Fairuz music and the plates were on theme. My Egyptian friend was actually impressed and was translating what was written. Saw Villa Yara on Instagram and decided to come for a girl's brunch. First of all, the interior of the restaurant is so cute. They also have a outdoor patio that would be gorgeous to sit at when the weather is nice. The restaurant was really busy on a Saturday afternoon but service was attentive and pretty quick. The only thing was it took a little longer for us to get water refill. I was initially a little unsure about food at such an instagramable place but I was pleasantly surprised. Soon after we ordered, we were served complementary olives and pita bread. The pita bread was amazing! They came right out of the oven, so warm and pillowy soft. The pumpkin hummus was not bad. I didn't really taste pumpkin, just delicious hummus. My friend really liked the cheese rolls, which came pipping hot and really crispy. The highlight of the meal for me was definitely the Fattet Batinjan (fried eggplant with yogurt sauce). It was so good, a flavor bomb, and fun textures from the pita chips and nuts. The shish Taouk was also great - really flavorful and tender chicken that came with grilled vegetables, a delicious garlic sauce, and flatbread. The portion sizes are pretty generous. We had leftovers to take home. Their dessert menu also looked amazing and we got Yara's dream. The ice cream on top was the best part. The middle layers that's made of semolina and pistachio felt a little to dense and chewy for me after a filling meal. Two stars only for the wonderful staff who assisted us: Michael, Megan, and Eve. You made our night, thank you so much. Our group waited an hour to be seated at Villa Yara despite our 8:15pm reservation. The restaurant was very full and busy; we didn't mind getting drinks at the bar and waiting for our table to be ready. However, after waiting for 45 minutes, I believe we had the right to enquire about the status of our table, which I did. We finally got the ok to sit down at 3 recently vacated tables on the front patio, very close to the street. The third table had not been cleared, with half-eaten food and drinks sitting in front of us for over 10 minutes. The manager, Nomi Chaudhry, seemed to be nice at first, but then was rude, arrogant, and unhelpful when we started asking him for updates about the status of our table. He actually yelled at me to "go sit down," which is completely unprofessional and never ok. I told him so, and he comped our drinks. Not only was the manager more concerned about yelling at a server/bartender (which he shouldn't have done at all, but especially not in public in front of the other restaurant guests and staff) than helping us with getting seated, but he never checked in on us throughout the night. Nomi should not treat his staff this way or yell or raise his voice at a paying guest at Villa Yara. The food was good and reasonably priced, especially for Georgetown. However, after being yelled at, it was harder to relax and enjoy it. I would only recommmend this restaurant if the manager, Nomi Chaudhry, no longer works there. Thank you again to our amazing waiter Michael, the lovely hostess Megan, and the helpful and kind Eve. They were all extremely nice and helpful; we would not have stayed had it not been for them. read more
