I went here for Valentine's Day with my husband and enjoyed our time for the most part. There's a patio and the indoor seating is a sleek row of tables with a clear view of the kitchen which is kind of cool. It's worth noting that the tables near the front are in the path of the breeze from the door, so at night those tables are chilly! There's also a small bar tucked in the back. When we arrived for our reservation, we were asked to sit at the bar while our table was prepped. We weren't greeted upon arrival and it took a good few minutes for one of the many people at the bar to address us and ask for our order. It wasn't the best first impression There was a pre-fixe menu with some excellent options that were flavorful. Im glad we decided to try Peruvian food! I will say that the service was very slow despite our later reservation around 8pm...Our entree was served 45min. after our appetizer. However with it being Valentines Day, we wanted to give grace as we know it's a busy night for restaurants. The filet mignon appetizer was exceptional BUT not cooked to Medium as I asked. Again I let this go as well. The ceviche appetizer was also really good. It was very fresh and had citrus-like tones. We really liked the lamb entree, it was really tender and falling off the bone. I would compare it to a pot roast like dish. I also really liked the risotto that came with the lobster. I find that many restaurants struggle with risotto so to find a second restaurant that really does it well, was awesome to me. I was saddened there was only 2 asparagus spears as the side. I assumed there would be an appropriate portion and chose this dish over the pea dish for the asparagus. It also was really good! There was only 1 dessert left which was the strawberry pie. Overall the food was good and I would return to try the typical menu, with the hope that the service we received was simply because it was a busy holiday! read more

Great service & great food. I'd say my experience was so amazing because of my server, Chris. So knowledgeable & attentive. He suggested the perfect wine to pair with my food selections. You also can't beat 1/2 of wine on Tuesdays. The leche de tigre in my ceviche mixto was delish. However, I did ask for spicy, but it wasn't. So don't expect a burn. The corazon was spiced beautifully & so tender. I almost ordered a second helping, but inside tried the tiratido. I wasn't wowed by this dish. The aji amarillo added a nice twist of flavor, but I felt the fish was marinated too long. It felt "overcooked". A bit mushy in places. Yet some bites tasted too fishy. The sweet potato donuts were horrible, over seasoned with anise and the fig sauce was too strong as well, loose the donuts and bring back the flan! I received my dinner about 15 minutes before my wife received her plate so pretty much ate by myself as my wife waited! Wonderful experience! This place that looks so small and unassuming on the front is so beautiful inside! They have a great bar in the back with a TV, and an entertaining bartender. There are tables outside also with cute tablecloths. Very cozy! I guess there's a special ceviche festival going on right now, there was a separate menu for that, but it wasn't completely explained to us. Our waitress unfortunately wasn't very knowledgeable. She had to go and check for an answer on every single question that we had from what kind of salad dressing comes on the salad (she said she knew it was clear) , to the spices used in the chicken, and when we asked about the rotisserie chicken, she said that she was surprised that people got just chicken lol! She was very friendly though! But the food was awesome, I ordered the Aji De Gallina - a delicious, shredded chicken served on potatoes with garlic rice on the side, and a delicious creamy sauce and beautifully presented. It was my friends birthday, so she got a free flan that I ate since she doesn't do dairy, and it was the best flan that I've ever had! It was thick and oh so creamy, and came with flowers and a candle! Wonderful!! The little nuts and plantains that came at the beginning of the meal were good too! I wish I took pictures of the dishes. Service was nice, ambience was fantastic. My friend is vegetarian- and ordered a dish. It was literally bell peppers rice and soy sauce (let's not pretend this is Peruvian). I visited Peru back in 2019. It would be ok as a 5 dollar dish not a $25 dish. We were shocked. My friend and I shared a seafood paella dish- we both eat seafood regularly but found the dish had that seafood stink like it went bad or from a cheap takeout place, or it was just reheated, and given to us. We barely are half of it and then my friend went to the parking lot to throw up. There needs to be major changes in these recipes and how the food is prepared. read more

I tried Villa Peru several years ago and had a great experience eating ceviche at the bar. The restaurant was much smaller and quieter and I remembered really enjoying the food and the atmosphere. My boyfriend and I went there to celebrate my birthday last night and it was incredibly disappointing. The calamari was smooshy, cold and flavorless. It was served with tartar sauce and had a weird lonely slice of bell pepper as a garnish? My Chilean sea bass was a sad chunk of $44 over cooked and under flavored fish on top of a mound of what tasted like instant quinoa. It tasted like nursing home food. The scallops they served with my dish were so over cooked and tiny. They looked tortured. My boyfriend ordered the Villa Peru Linguini $40 and asked for his steak to be coked rare. He was served about 4 Oz of very well done steak. His shrimp was also over cooked. We don't go out very often and I was really looking forward to a nice birthday dinner. This was a very disappointing meal. I can't believe the lack of quality of the food that was served. read more

After dining at Villa Peru, I mentioned to a Peruvian acquaintance that I'd gone there and enjoyed it, and she responded, "oh yes -- you went to the GOOD Peruvian restaurant here!" Her validation aside, we enjoyed our dinner at Villa Peru a great deal. When first seated, you're given salsa and a bowl of plantains and choclo (Peruvian corn). I could eat that mix all day! It was a unique twist on the typical chips and salsa, and the salsa was a spicy, smooth dip that could easily be addictive. We got Queso Tequenos to start; they're little fried cheese puffs served with a stellar guacamole. The creamy cheese retained its integrity inside the wonton, balancing the salty crunch and subtle heat of the sauce drizzled on the plate. For entrees, we got the Jalea de Mariscos (a plate of fried seafood including fish, shrimp, squid, mussels, as well as fried yucca, and choclo and citrus-marinated onions) and Arroz con Mariscos (a Peruvian seafood paella containing shrimp, mussels, clams, squid, octopus, with citrus-marinated onion). Both were excellent. The breading on the fried seafood was very light, giving them an airy crunch without any heaviness or grease. The paella was very rich and savory, but the onions provided acid and brightness to the dish. I would absolutely order either dish again! For dessert, we got the Picarones, pumpkin and sweet potato fritters dusted with powdered sugar and served with a lovely spiced syrup. They struck a perfect balance of earthiness and spiced sweetness; you might imagine they're the lovely, nuanced baby of pumpkin pie and funnel cake at the county fair. Our server was very friendly and helpful, talking through the various menu items about which we inquired, and helping us pick a wine that would pair well with our selections. I look forward to going back for more! I intent to try new things, but the siren song of the paella may be too strong to resist. Only one way to find out! read more

Great restaurant in Tucson! With not a huge amount of Peruvian food or personal experience with authentic Peruvian food, I really enjoy going to Villa Peru. Nice location north of river by St. Phillips Plaza and a cute atmosphere. Love all of the ceviches (usually get that as a sharable appetizer) and really enjoy Churrasco a lo Pobreor Lomo Saltado for an entree. Would recommend sitting away from the main aisle way if they have a saxophonist that night. It gets pretty loud and it's hard to hear your dinner guests' conversations. read more

I was excited to take my wife out to try some Peruvian food. Unfortunately didn't have the best experience. We showed up early to our reservation to see if there were any tables open. The only one open was right next to the jazz player which our hostess mentioned might be too loud. So we said it was no problem we will wait at the bar. We ordered some drinks and hung out at the bar, no problem. After some time, we decided to order tiradito ceviche to tie us over. It was really good so we were fine that our table was still not ready. Waited and waited, our bartender noticed we were still not seated so he comped us our drinks. Finally the hostess shows up and says she can sit us at the table.....next to the jazz player ......this was a little frustrating because it was about 45+ minutes in. We ended up getting a table outside which was nice Out. I ordered the Villa Peru Linguini. Unfortunately the steak was well well done and the pasta was VERY bland. For $33 I would expect some flavor. It was already late in the evening and I didn't want to send anything back as we had waited for a really long time at this point. However, he failed to identify the sauces that were packaged with our chicken. The chicken was good if a bit dry. The potatoes, especially the roasted ones, were quite good. The salad was fine. This was my first time here. I have eaten at a different Peruvian place before. We came for the ceviche festival, which occurs every week. I decided to try the Ceviche Mixto. My friend got the Ceviche Carretillero which is similar except it comes with fried calamari. My fiancee got the Lomo Saltado, which is a beef dish. I also got the Chilcano, which is a cocktail that is not too bad. It's not sweet but I enjoyed it. My friend got the Pisco sour. The ceviche was fresh and tasted amazing. I liked the flavors and it's almost cleansing. It's a bit far and out of the way but I wouldn't mind returning if I'm in the area. read more

Hey, I usually come here with my meat eater friends, because they love the meat dishes. But it's a vegetarian, they also have options. Sometimes I just like to get their sides, such as the roasted potatoes, fried sweet plantains. Or one of their sliced potatoes topped with Peruvian fresh cheese sauce. Which is on their appetizer menu. I don't eat eggs, so I usually just have them keep that off. They also have an option as an entrée for sautéed purée of Canary beans. Sometimes I get that as well. Villa Peru is a staple for me when bringing friends from out of town, but I've also pleasantly surprised several Tucsonan friends who weren't aware of this place. Their ceviche is my favorite. They have specials on this dish regularly, and I have enjoyed every type that I've tried. It also comes in a lovely presentation, beautiful dishes really complement the food. I brought two friends recently to the Villa Peru Ceviche festival, and we were all delighted! We are visiting from Texas and were recommended this place by a worker at the Arizona Wine Collective across the street and it didn't disappoint! I wish I took pictures of the mango tuna ceviche because that was easily our favorite thing! The ambiance is amazing, they had a live sax player who made the vibe incredible. The food was AMAZING, drinks were great and service was too. I forgot our servers name but his energy was great and he made the experience fun and inviting. My sister is in town and we decided to try Villa Peru for the first time. We were seated over 30 minutes after our reservation but it's a very small restaurant. We waited at the bar and ordered an appetizer to start - Tequenos de Queso. It was delicious. Eventually, we were seated right outside the kitchen and right next to the saxophone player. My sister had shrimp Ceviche and I had the Lomo Saltado. Both were fabulous. We finished up with the cheesecake and fritter - again, delicious. Even though we were seated late and in the worst location in the restaurant, we'll be back - the food and the service were that good. read more

What a disappointment!! I made reservations a month in advance for my mom's 80th birthday. I called the day of to let them know we were driving from Phoenix for dinner for her birthday. I told them she is from Peru and we were excited to be celebrating there. We arrived and were seated after a few minute wait. We sat at the table and waited for someone to come by. The service was awful! Finally when someone came by we awaited for acknowledgment of my mom's birthday and nothing so we said that the Peruvian birthday girl would be ordering our cocktails. Then our server said happy birthday to her. And that was it the entire night. We ordered 4 desserts because we were a party of 6 and no candle for us to be able to sing happy birthday to my mom. I researched on their social media pages and they advertise as if they make everyone feel special. Well they for sure do not!!! Whoever they have running their social media is doing an amazing job because it's nothing like what you get when you are there. The pisco sours were ok but not great. We make better ones at home. The ceviche was very good but sadly the rest of the food was not. The papa la huancaina lacked flavor. It needed more ají. The papa rellenas were very gummy and chewy. Sadly we ordered 3 orders of these. The wagyu saltado lacked flavor and the tallarín verde was overcooked and chewy. We couldn't even get refills on our waters! We were so disappointed! Not to mention that the tip is automatically included. No wonder why the service was poor. They ruined my mom's 80th birthday! Shame on them for false advertising on social media as a place to make someone feel special on their birthday! Go to the store and buy a pack of candles and have candles for someone's birthday. Out to dinner with my sister from Phoenix. We never had Peruvian food before so were flying blind and relied on our server's suggestions ordered a variety of items. Started with Tequenos which are like Peruvian lumpia in cheese and beef with a spicy mayo that were crunchy and delicious. I had the Churroasco steak with Chimichurri sauce and my wife had the Peruvian Fried rice. Both amazing. Son had Frijoles con Seco which is like a braised short rib and sister had a shrimp pasta dish. All were delicious. It is a small place but they were able to accommodate 5 of us anyway. Tucked away in a strip mall, it's damn near impossible to find Villa Peru unless you're actively looking for it. It's a super narrow restaurant that's kind of overshadowed by Seis right next door. But, forever on a search to find rockin' Peruvian food, the guy and I came a lookin' and boy are we glad that we did. It was fairly quiet on a Friday night, so we were seated and greeted immediately. Service was great almost all night--everyone was really friendly and happy to answer questions, and checked on us throughout the meal. Except for at the end. For reasons unknown, we had experienced awesome service throughout our meal until we were done eating, and waited probably 15-20 minutes before there was even a server walking anywhere nearby that we could flag down. Not the end of the world, for sure, but definitely a weird blip. For drinks to start, I had the Last Days of Pisco which was fantastic, and he had the Piscojito--he doesn't usually even care much about mojitos but he loved this one so much he had two. We had the Pulpa de Cangrejo Causa, the Ceviche Mixto Afrodiciaco, and the Lomo Saltado for grubbin, and all of it was truly fantastic. The Pulpa de Cangrejo was super tasty, if not just a hair salty. The ceviche was excellent, and I loved that there were so many different types of seafood in it. Lomo Saltado, my personal favorite Peruvian dish, was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Pro tip: don't skimp on the jalapeño sauce with it! The only thing I'd change next time is to sub out the fine-not-great french fries for fried plantains. I was super stoked to see that they had alfajores on the menu for dessert, because they're usually my favorite--but I was a bit underwhelmed by these. They were just a smidge too dry. Everything was super tasty, but quite pricy for how much food you get. I'm sure we'll return here, but it'll probably be more of a "treat yo'self" meal for us. read more

We were sat way in the back by the bar which made it even more cozy for us. For starters we were served with some corn nuts and plantain chips with a side salsa. Our server told me what the salsa was, but I was too distracted by my dancing tastebuds!
