I've been a regular at La Botana since their old location, I find myself coming even more often now that they've moved. The service is consistently excellent; so much so that a few of the servers recognize me and already know my drink and appetizer order when I walk in. My usual happy hour order is the carne asada fries with a "Happy" margarita, and it's a perfect combo. I also love sitting on the patio with friends and enjoying the fresh air. Even on warmer Tucson days, it's comfortable thanks to the shade and relaxed atmosphere. For my meal, I usually go with the shrimp tacos, though the adobo chicken tacos are another favorite. The salsa bar has a decent variety, so it's easy to switch things up each time you come in. Is it the absolute best Mexican food I've ever had? No. But it's one of those places that hits the spot every single time, and that's the reason I keep coming back. I've been going to La Botana for many years, starting at their old location on Fort Lowell (which was a little closer to where friends live, but no matter, we're okay with making the longer trek!). The food and drink have always been great, as has the service. Plenty of seating options indoors and out, with some seating straddling between the two (at a large window that slides up). We chose inside since it was quite hot outside, even late in the evening mid-September. Plentiful chips arrived at the table when we sat down, and we all grabbed our favorite salsas at the salsa bar. All tasty, some intensely hot, including the pickled jalapeños. For drinks, one of us opted for their tasty horchata, one of us their mojito, and two of us thought the 32 oz margaritas sounded wonderful. These were not weak margaritas, BTW, and 32 oz is a lot! You'd think they'd be expensive, but they were 2 for $25, which is an insane deal! I ordered the three street tacos (with corn tortillas, of course), my girlfriend got the quesadillas, and one of my friends ordered the Percheron Combo. All delicious. La Botana is a bright, colorful restaurant with very good food and an excellent salsa bar. I went for lunch with two coworkers recently, and we all enjoyed our food. The chips and salsa got things started off right; the salsa bar has a great array of options for all preferences. We tried about half a dozen of the salsas, and all of them were great! Between us, we got quesabirria tacos, fish tacos, and calabacita mini chimis. The quesabirria tacos were STUFFED -- I felt absolutely full to bursting after eating just two! They had very good flavor in both the meat and the consommé. I also liked that they were served with onion and cilantro on the side, so you can add each to your personal taste. My coworkers also really enjoyed their meals, and one complimented the mini chimis' lightness even as a fried food. The only minor critique is that the rice and beans that came as the side for the tacos were slightly under-seasoned. It was nothing a quick squeeze of lime and/or a dash of salsa couldn't fix, though. The service was quick and friendly. read more

The last time I was here, I was married, and it was the old location. My how life has changed! I met a couple friends from out of state, and from the time I pulled into the parking lot, my experience was amazing. The old location was small, and this location is spacious and welcoming. The decor is bright, but not gaudy. I felt like I was in San Carlos Mexico on a dive trip....(minus the water and diving). :-). The server was amazing, (and I did not get her name) ...but she was super friendly. I had carne asada tacos on corn tortillas, and my other friend had shrimp tacos. The food was mouth watering. The seasoning on the carne asada was on point! The chips came out and the first bowl is FREE, and they have a salsa bar that is off the hook. One of our go-to spots for good tacos and drinks. Every time we go it's so delicious. The staff is really friendly and the vibe is very relaxed. I love their outdoor patio but the bar is also a nice place to sit. I didn't get the name of our bartender but she was a younger gal and she was KILLIN it making so many drinks on a busy Friday night, one after the other. I ordered a cazuela palomita, I had never had a cazuela before, and I loved it! So refreshing. It was really busy when we visited but the vibes were up! Music was playing it was a bit loud but in a fun way. The food was good, I usually have ordered the vegetarian mini chimis and I will say they have been better in the past. It was a lot of dough and not a lot of filling. Definitely liked the carne asada burrito though! Will go back for another chance but wish they were higher quality as they have been in the past. Funny thing - La Botana moved locations and is NOW in the building that Applebee's on Wetmore was. Kismet. We came, again, after going to get our marriage license, to celebrate! Thank you, La Botana, for being part of our journey. **** Five years ago, I lived in the neighborhood. La Botana was, truly, the best part of the area. Returning, I can only say that La Botana has gotten even BETTER. Many times, when a restaurant is trying to prove themselves, they go all out in the beginning, but get lax, as time goes on. Not La Botana! The food is still amazing, the service warm and friendly and the decor is bright and festive. The only things that I see, that have changed, over the years, has been that the presentation of the food has become more appealing and presented with an artistic flair. Oh, and the glassware did change, but the Uber Margaritas are still nearly as big as my head (and 2 for 1 EVERYDAY)! Went to their new Wetmore location for the first time and wow the food was amazing. The salsa bar was more extensive and they still have the complimentary bean dip and plenty of tacos and burritos to choose from plus the huge margaritas at 2 for one, but it was the Don Cameron shrimp dish that knocked the socks off. The dish was huge, perfectly cooked shrimp, house made red chili sauce with a light sprinkle of cheese and crema. I like that it came with charro beans instead of refried - healthier, and the cilantro rice on the side was very good. I had the Don Cameron minus the tortilla to make it gluten free and hubby had the burrito version, as listed in the menu. Four of us split two huge margaritas. The traditional Grande margarita was good and quite strong. I especially enjoyed the mojito style margarita. We also shared a flan which was excellent and had an alcohol spikes caramel sauce, with amaretto. Overall the flan and shrimp are must haves. I've driven past La Botana so many times and just thought they were another fast food joint like Filiberto's. I apologize to anyone who got offended by that statement. ;) The interior of the restaurant had a small bar, dine-in seating inside and out, and a salsa bar. I ordered the Jalisco birria tacos and the beer special, which was an iced cold tecate served in a frosted mug with tajin on the rim ($3.50). The beer itself was refreshing. I guess I don't have iced cold beers often this tecate hit the spot perfectly. I don't even care for tajin, but this beer tajin combo changed my mind for life. I received the chips and pinto beans as my appetizer, which is too much of a temptation for me because I end up getting full on chips and salsa. The birria tacos were delicious and juicy. I love being able to dunk my tacos and they were flavorful. I am also a sucker for beans and rice and order it every chance I get. My first dining experience here made me a fan. I noticed that a lot of the customers here are regulars, greeting each other and the bartender like a family member. The food here is tasty. They served super cold beers, and really big margaritas. An experience that has me excited to go back and try more! Came here for dinner and was very pleased, so looking forward to trying happy hour or lunch. I got the veggie Sonoran dog - it was about $16 for two dogs. $8 a hot dog put me off at first but they were very well topped and very filling, it was two meals of food for me. The soyrizo that came on it was yummy, I would LOVE to get that in a burrito by itself. I subbed the fries with cilantro rice for no extra cost: it was tasty and moist plus they gave me two servings which was a nice surprise. The bean dip, salsa and chips were great too. I'm not usually a restaurant salsa fan but they had a large salsa bar with many cool salsa flavors. All the green ones and the bean dip were my favorite. The ambience and decor were really cute. Worst service I've had in Tucson in four years I've been living here. Waited almost two hours to get my food, only time the waiter came to us was to tell us that kitchen was being slow because one of their cooks quit, while there was still two people in the back. When the food came, I had specifically asked for corn tortilla, cheese and pico on the tacos. I got flour tortilla, no cheese, and no pico, the tacos were the blandest thing I've ever eaten in my life, I could've made something better at home. I still ate it because mind you, after waiting two hours I was starving and I was about to leave. They never refilled the salsa bar either. The staff could be seen talking in the corner, huddled behind the bar as we kept trying to flag people about our food. Waiter told me I would have a discount. I shouldn't have paid for whatever they made me eat. At the end I told this to the person that was charging me, who then proceeded to charge me for the get two margaritas for one, I literally could've paid just one. Didn't need the other one. I brought my friends in for a recommendation. Definitely never going back. Terrible food, terrible service. read more

My bestie and I have been trying new (to us) restaurants on the regular. Next on our list was La Botana. The restaurant was popular on a Saturday around 1. We were seated quickly and were happy to accept the complimentary chips with bean dip. I don't know what they put in the bean dip, but I'm a fan. Yum. They have a salsa bar so you can select the flavors you prefer. We shared the Nachos Campechanos. The order was easily large enough for the two of us. The best toppings of the nachos were the birria beef and the pickled red onions. I loved the onions so much that I now make my own. Yum. The service wasn't anything special, to the point that I needed to track down the server to pay the bill. This will definitely be on the restaurant return list! read more

Arrived at 6pm On a Friday night- arghh...just missed Happy Hour, but still enjoyed a $3.50 beer of the week and $6 Modelo Negra draft. The poblano burrito was delicious and filling! Partner's Taco Trio with his choices of 3 different proteins were all really different from each other, which is unusual. So often restaurants just switch the meat and use the same condiments- not La Botana. Definitely we will return- stay tuned for uodates! read more

Atmosphere is soooo cute and trendy. They have the LED lights and murals on the wall and the bar has the fun black and white mosaic tiles. The food is great! I got the nachos and they came with pork skin on top and I never thought to put that together but it was delicious! The salsa bar is pretty good in variety red green arbol limes etc. the beans are good too! My son loved them! I will say they are a bit pricey but you're getting some really good crafted meals and they do have a happy hour so if you're wanting good drinks and some appetizers this could be your spot for sure! We went to La Botana Tacos at their very last night at the location on 1st as the staff informed us they were moving a couple of miles North to a location just off 1st at Wetmore starting in a week. We came for their infamous happy hour which has half priced drinks and appetizer faves. We had the Guac and Chips, Mini Chimi's and Carne Asada fries with beef. We sat outside which was rather noisy with the street traffic but we had wonderful friendly servers and delicious food and drink. We had Prickly Pear Margaritas and Strawberry Mango Margaritas along with the shared appetizers mentioned above. All were great tasting and authentic. Overall, this place seems well-loved as there was a steady stream of people coming and going. Now we need to try the newer (quieter?) location next time in town. read more
