Over the years I have heard nothing but good from friends -- "Excellent" "Exactly like they make it in Florence!" "Best Italian food I've ever tasted." I went with a party of four. For appetizers we split the Polpo E Patate (grilled octopus & potatoes) and Patate Fritte (French fries). The octopus was amazing, tender almost like perfect scallops with a tasty pesto. The French fries with herbs, garlic bread crumbs and pesto were crunchy, tasty, delicious. For mains my companions had Branzino with eggplant carponata, an amazing 4-cheese Gnocchi, and swordfish. I tasted all, and all were spot on; everyone loved their main course. I had Linguini Vongole (clams and linguini); the clams were perfect - tender and tasty; but the star of the show was the homemade linguine, seasoned perfectly and cooked to al dente perfection. We finished with cappuccino and Tiramasu. The service was excellent. Attentive and quick, and our waitress, Merin, was able to answer every question about the menu with authority, and even about the ingredients and preparation. The ambiance is understated, relaxed, and what you hope for when enjoying a special meal. I am quite stingy in passing out 5-Star ratings; I reserve them for the best of the best, for restaurants where I'm confident readers will also enjoy an outstanding meal. Mangia Toscano is clearly 5-Star; it is *the* must-do restaurant in Metuchen.

Mistake #2 getting out of the car We pulled up to a gross old building, crumbling parking lot where people were creating their own parking/ blocking in each others cars. It was completely bizarre. After much debate about how to park and not have our car hit, we parked. We kept seeing people coming out of what looked like a rear kitchen/ service door. Odd. We walked through the horribly lit parking lot, in bad need of a repave and made our way to the front door. This door is street side and has an unlit sign over it. I pulled the handle only to have half of the metal handle pull off in my hand??? What in the world! Two elderly gentleman cutting through the lot on a walk let me know that the "kitchen entrance" was actually the main door. When they saw how perplexed I was, they laughed and said "There in lies the problem. This place is weird and doesn't have a proper entrance. Did you try the broken handle yet?" Followed by their laughter. Wonderful! They told us to not have big expectations as this is the local greasy spoon and to hold our nose when we entered. I'm not going to lie, we debated getting back in the car again as we walked past it.... Which brings me to mistake #3 Mistake #3 Not getting back in the car when we had the chance We entered into the building and were immediately hit in the face with a smell that I can only describe as that of and old wet basement paired with a moldy wood smell and a kitchen in need of an air out. It was not good. A guy came up to the host stand (a random podium in the dining room) and asked for our reservation- not if we had one- but the assumption that we must have one to dine at this fine establishment. I told him no we just came in and he immediately snickered at us and said, "come back in an hour" Ok Peter Luger. Best Decision We Made #1 immediately leaving It's really unfortunate for a place to have such crummy interactions on the heels of giving gusts every reason to run before even coming in. A simple- hey we are booked with reservations, let me peak to see what we can do- ok first spot will be in about an hour. Does that work for you? Or how about, have chairs???? There's literally nowhere to wait. You'd have to stand in the smell waiting and hoping to not get legionnaires disease. I would not recommend this dump.

The menu now includes 7 appetizers, 2 salads, 7 pastas, 7 entrees and a few desserts. We were immediately told that two of the appetizers and two of the entrees were not available "today," so even less choices. Thing is, anything resembling the classic dishes in every Italian restaurant were absent from the menu. Ah, but then I spotted "Caesar Salad" -- but it was actually "Summer Kale Caesar Salad." Hey, there;s a time and a place for kale; that would be in a health food or vegan restaurant, not in my Caesar salad. But I figured, keep an open mind. We ordered two appetizers, Salmon & Shrimp Arancini and Wagyu Meatball Pomodoro -- both excellent. But the entrees, and this is the crux of the matter, varied from mediocre to poor. I ordered the Airline Chicken Parm, which was a giant portion of panko breaded chicken breast, with marinara and cheese, and a small pasta on the side. The homemade pasta was excellent, but the chicken -- tough as leather and tasteless. And sadly the other three in my party also felt the same about their entrees. Some were overcooked, others were tasteless. The bill, for a party of four (and we ordered no wine), excluding tip was $220. We did provide a 20% tip as the server was excellent, but the selection of menu items was poor, the food was mediocre at best, and cost was outrageous considering quality of the food. As I said, I hate to write this review, but Terzo leaves me with the challenge of now finding a new "go to" Italian restaurant in the area.

I make it at home and it comes out 'pretty good' (at least my wife says so) but here, this portion was fantastic! So light an flaky and tasty. Definitely give it a try if you enjoy Halibut. We all shared a couple of desserts... a home made carrot cake and a chocolate cake from 'outside'. Both good, but the carrot cake was served warm, which was a first for all of us... and it was terrific! Without a doubt the best carrot cake we'd ever had, so save a little room for their carrot cake if/when go. Our servers, Alyssa and Dagmar provided excellent service as well as some humorous dialogue while we were there. Made our meal just that much better!. Yes... it's a BYOB!

We're relatively new to the Edison area and didn't really know where to go for Italian. Yelp reviews for this post looked good, it was a quick ride away and the price point was spot on. As soon as we entered the restaurant we were impressed with how clean everything was. We were looking for an easy and casual Italian restaurant on a Saturday night and found the perfect place. While we did make reservations, the restaurant is quite large and can easily take walk ins. The service is extremely friendly. Our waiter was quirky and friendly and made sure that we were never wanting. We ordered the Zuppa di Pesce and Veal Toscano and both were delicious. The clams were extremely fresh and not overdone and the tomato sauce was just right and not too salty. For dessert we had the tiramisu which they make in house. Yum. We are definitely coming back here again We look forward to many more meals at Villa Gennaro. read more

Long time, old school, established friendly Italian eatery that has a variety of tasty traditional style Italian dishes. First came here a few times a couple of years ago, tasting the Linguini and Clams, Chicken Parm, Pizza, etc. but a recent job relocation has increased my visits significantly. Gennaro's has a wide variety on it's menu, so you can eat here a few times a week without getting bored. We have been coming to Villa Genarros for over 10 years, and it just keeps getting better. We recently celebrated my mother's 65th birthday in their private banquet room, and it was amazing. Tony and his team made sure the party was a success. I would recommend Villa Gennaros for a business lunch, family dinner, or to a host a private function. read more

I came in with some friends to celebrate a birthday and we were delighted with everything! This was my first time here, needless to say, it won't be my last. The service was excellent, our waitress was very attentive and helped me through the menu to make the right choice for an entree. Her enthusiasm showed that the staff here really cares about their customers!! My friends ordered specials that were not on the menu, I went with the braised short rib which was recommended by the waitress. The short rib was cooked to perfection, it was very tender and came right off the bone. The sauce was excellent, you could tell they put a lot of effort into creating this dish. I recommend Gennaros if you are in the middlesex county area. I live further up in jersey by Bergen county and Had the pleasure of attending this restaurant on Mother's Day with my mom and dad. Our server Leslie was friendly and made it a really nice meal, she took very good care of us and accommodated the dishes we ordered to our liking. ( she also gave my mom a cute rose which put a smile on her face) My mom and dad are not huge fans of Italian food but we got excellent recommendations of seafood dishes that both of them very much enjoyed. Their banquet hall downstairs is very cozy and made us feel at home. They accommodate you with which ever seating arrangements you prefer. Besides there great ambiance and decor, the food was absolutely fantastic. While booking my party I was amazed with the selections and different packages you get to choose from. The owner sits you down and goes over everything with you on a personal level. There is no room fee which was very appealing to me and my wife while making our decisions. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. My family from out of state was coming for a memorial service. We had to reschedule two times, the owners we incredibly understanding, and accommodating. When we finally had our luncheon the staff was waiting for us, the table was set beautifully, and the food was incredible. One dish after the next was perfect, hot, fresh, and beautiful presentation. I cannot say enough good things about how we were treated, and how good the food was. This may have been the best meal me and my girlfriend ever had. She had the eggplant rollitini, I had the cavatelli and broccoli. We split a caeser salad for an appetizer. The eggplant and cavatelli in particular were each our favorite meal, probably ever at any place we've been out to. Our waiter, Joe, couldn't have been a friendlier or nicer guy. We've been to all kind of restaurants from chains to fancy to random places... NOTHING tops this place. We will 100% be going back. Food and service is excellent. My wife and I have been coming here for the past two years and have never had a bad dinner. The service is prompt and attentive as well as being pleasant. I have read some of the reviews and cannot believe the "snarkey" attitude that some individuals exhibit. I felt like it was very clean & they were following the protocols. this spot made me feel like I was in little Italy in the city!!! haha. It was my first time here. The food & service was excellent. Friday -Sunday they have delicious specials that are not on the menu. My server Jasmin was very knowledgeable and knew how to sell these specials. My husband got a delicious rack of lamb from this verbal menu( we had to take another one to go). I went for the butternut squash ravioli off this menu too and it was amazing. They are also following COVID protocol by keeping distance between tables and sanitizing them after every use. We came to this restaurant on the ride back from Connecticut and we ordered the Garlic shrimp, the bruschetta, the eggplant pizza, and the Margarita pizza. Everything was amazing. Everything. It was so good that while having a fully packed car, we still ordered another large margarita pizza to go. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, they handled COVID with care and caution, and the food came out very quickly. There is nothing bad to say about this place. My office go-to place for pizza & salad. Their pizzas are made just right, crust is not too thin, not too thick, sauce is delicious, cheese is not salty, pizza is not greasy. The salad is great and dressing is so good! We've had our holiday luncheon at the restaurant and the service was impeccable. The food was tasty and plentiful. Im kicking back right now with my feet up huge smile on my face . I just ate at Vila Gennaro's . Tony always goes out of his way to make sure I'm happy . I started with a specialty salad that he makes for me only , well he makes me feel that way but I'm sure it's on the menu . The home made pasta was mouth watering I couldn't stop eating unfortunately the large bowl soon came to an end . The first thing we check is their rotating Specials menu to see if there's anything unique that calls out to us. The quality of all of their meats, sauces, pastas and salads have always been superb. Whether we order the basics like calamari and chicken parm, or seafood dishes and special plates, we've never been disappointed. Another reason that keeps us coming back are the huge portions! We always leave with leftovers, so the value is wonderful - that's a huge selling point for me. The ambience is definitely a no-frills, casual spot - but it adds to the place's charm! Service has always been courteous and without any issues. It's also a plus that they are BYOB, so you can enjoy your favorite bottle of wine, while enjoying your authentic Italian meal.

When the bill arrived they charged me a $4 service fee ( which is not a tip ) its not a big deal but at least put it on the menu. I ordered from them a week later , chicken parm $21 to go. when I picked up my order I was charged $24 ($21 for the meal $3 service fee ) and still no bread . Really a service charge for a to go order ! Even though the food is good I don't think I will be going back anytime soon. Both times I went, the restaurant was crowded with people sitting down to eat and people waiting for to go orders . Just think how much money their making with this service fee . Has to be hundreds of dollars a day .Thats just greed.

Pies I found very good value. The salad not so much. We've gotten the chicken marsala pie, a grandpa pie, a sausage and broccoli rabe, and a white pizza with broccoli. The fan favorites for our party were the chicken marsala and the grandpa pie. The guys who helped us set up was really nice, he checked on our party multiple times, they set us up with a table in the back to accommodate 12 adults and two kids. The restaurant itself is pretty roomy for a pizzeria. The back area itself is a little more a sit-down feel. As for parking, they have a shared lot about your businesses, since it's on the corner of Jason to a ShopRite parking can be harder to find, but it's not impossible. Impossible. You might have to make a couple passes or park far and walk if you're fine with that. If you're coming with with older kids or just adults shouldn't be an issue at all. The only place where this lost the star was when my wife had a call. I had to order the pizzas. She was thinking about getting a little side salad and wasn't too sure. She was up sold on a half catering tray of Caesar salad. That was really just chop from a lettuce and some croutons. She did not ask a price for it which is on her that half Caesar salad was 40 bucks. And we took the majority of it home which was basically a waste so I feel like we would have been better served getting two regular Caesar salads or one Caesar salad because we were getting four pizzas already. Another thing to be wary of especially with large parties is I'm fairly certain they did include gratuity on our party. Which would be fine if when we got the bill we got an itemized receipt. They had instead just given us a receipt with the grand total. My wife not thinking there was tip on there had tipped on it again so they got an extra generous tip from us. Either that or they mischarged us because when I went back and did the math we were either overcharged or they had added gratuity without letting us know. Despite this, it was still a good experience. My son loved her chicken marsala pizza and ate the leftover slices over the next two days afterwards. If we were in this plaza again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop back in.

The food is fantastic, and the variety on the menu is impressive. The chef clearly knows what they're doing because every single dish we tried was genuinely delicious. It's the kind of spot where you can't go wrong: date night, dinner with friends, or anything in between. We brought our own bottle and had a great time. Our waiter was super knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The staff even joked around with me when I forgot my to‑go bag, and yes, I absolutely took it home because the food is that good. I also appreciate that they don't act like offering takeout is beneath them; even the takeout bag was nice. I honestly wish my meals were this good every night. I hope everyone who works here is paid well and enjoys what they do, because they're running the place exactly how a restaurant should be run. After waiting an hour, the order finally arrived... but the sandwich was missing two of the main ingredients. No ham, no salami, even though I was charged for them. When I called, the manager offered either $5 off or to deliver the missing meat (which "could take a while"). I've been a loyal customer of Oakwood Pizza for years, but over the past year, I've noticed a decline in both quality and customer service. Calls are now answered with just a "hello," without even identifying the business. The last time we ordered, the wings were overcooked and dry, and now this. It's disheartening to see a local restaurant, one that's been part of our community for so long lose sight of what made people support them in the first place: great food and genuine service. As local businesses struggle to stay open, I truly hoped Oakwood Pizza would rise to the occasion, not fall behind. Sadly, after this experience and the rudeness shown today, I can no longer support this establishment. I always try to root for small businesses, but respect and care for customers should never be optional.
