Gathered the girls for our traditional Restaurant Week Dinner. Naks was our first choice but they didn't have any availability on Resy despite me checking it a week prior and every day of the week where it was supposed to have slots, no reply on emails nor Instagram either lol but I digress. Had to find another place last minute and a friend found this. We were encouraged by the good reviews so off we went to try last Friday. It was freezing as we know until this week. There was a proper coat check area which was quite nice. We were a group of 5 but were seated immediately despite waiting for 1 other friend. So that gesture was appreciated, even said, "we're not that type of restaurant". :) Al was the one who attended to us and he was friendly and warm. It was noticeable that the RW menu wasn't presented first until we asked for it, it's a common RW thing though but we're familiar with the drill. The starters took the longest to serve, probably 30 to 40 mins but thank God we were distracted enough by our prosecco, wine, and cocktails. On to the food: most of us ordered clams as the starters and it was pretty good thankfully. The entrees took another 20 something minutes. Most of our friends paid the additional $25 each to get the NY Strip Steak while I stuck to the Chicken Marsala and another friend had the fish. I split my chicken with another friend and he gave half of his steak to me so we could both try it. In full transparency, the Chicken Marsala was the better dish as well as the fish versus the steak which was really fatty. I'd say stick to a proper traditional steak house if you want steak. But I will say that the Chicken entree was fantastic. Service was good from Al and the team but it felt like they probably were lacking staff that night. There was some running around from the staff and it was really felt that they were scrambling. However Al acknowledged it when we brought it up and we were gracious about it. At the end of the day, we knew they were trying their best and that's what matters. Lastly the dessert offerings were tiramisu, ricotta cheesecake and chocolate mousse. We all ordered one of each and shared everything across. The clear winner was the tiramisu, the chocolate mousse was just okay and the ricotta cheesecake was dry and tasted lacking. Overall, we had a wonderful time, it's truly the company that matters most anyway. But the staff and service were good and the entire restaurant was actually pretty spacious and the rest rooms were clean despite the fact that the restaurant was packed. Paid a total of $587.76 for a RW meal amounting to $45 for 3 courses but had $25 additional fees and an average of 2 drinks per person. Thanks Al and the team! If you're working in Midtown, this place is located well.. right next to Park Avenue where a lot of offices reside.. very tough to locate this from outside. The name boards outside are small and not striking.., The inside of the restaurant was great. Perfect and ideal for official meetings and get together.., the ambience is cozy and there are lots of tables inside to sit and eat . Service was OK. A pricey restaurant .. minimum vegetarian and vegan options but I'm glad that at least had it.. got her ravioli pasta vegan for about $30! It had tomato basil sauce on top and tasted good.. very pricey though.. other got fish and chicken dishes, which they liked. Cost them $35-$40 for a chicken or fish dish... Came here for lunch on weekdays. The place was exactly what we were looking for... Inexpensive, elegant, and romantic atmosphere! The place wasn't busy. The service and food were amazing! The staff was knowledgeable and double-checked every ingredient without hesitation, which is important when dining with food allergies. The food was fresh and came out fast. Their menu has many options to offer, including gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free options. I had Soup of the Day, Atlantic Salmon, Linguini con Vongole, and a Tortellini alla Berulia, which are flavorful and outstanding. Others had something else, which I had no interest in remembering. This was a stroke of luck. I wanted to take advantage of NY's Restaurant Week but remain within blocks of our hotel. Without reading reviews -- something I almost always do -- we made a reservation at Villa Berulia. And it was great! The $45 prix fixe menu included a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. My husband's baked clams were delicious, and I was pleased with the Caesar salad. I asked for anchovies, which came almost minced, covering every mouthful of romaine. (I'm going to do that from now on at home!) Fish apparently changes nightly. Thursday's special was sole picata. Lemony, light, simply delicious. The accompanying vegetables were prepared al dente, as they should be. While my photos are hard to see -- the restaurant is low-lit -- T's braised short ribs were a treat. Al, our gracious and friendly waiter, came around with the dessert cart. T and I shared a lemon tart and chocolate mousse cake. Both, excellent. And then -- thanks to the owner -- we capped off the evening with limoncello. There's old-world charm to Villa Berulia, from the ambience to the staff. I chatted with two women at a neighboring table who said they're here at least once a week, sometimes twice! For anyone out there vacillating over what to order, the women recommend veal. This restaurant was the highlight of a recent stay in NYC. We were staying nearby and stopped here for dinner. Service and atmosphere are excellent and of course the food is worthy of a great rating. We started with a special appetizer of fried stuffed zucchini flowers, perfectly executed and delicious. Wife had a risotto that made her very happy (and some came home with us) and I ordered the Tortellini ala Berulia. Killer bolognese with a little cream and lots of mushrooms. A very satisfying meal and we were happy we found this place. I think we'll certainly be back on upcoming trips to the city. read more

I Am In Love I mean, seriously, I cannot rave enough about how perfect they made our night and experience, how comforting, how relaxing, how wonderful our entire night and every single aspect of that meal was. These are the rare finds in this city that bring you back to where you've always been called to. I am fully smiling writing this review, I was fully smiling telling my mom about the place this morning. I am fully smiling like I have a crush on Villa Berulia - I do! I do have a crush on Villa Berulia. From the moment we sat down we knew it was just going to be a perfect night, exactly the vibe we wanted. The staff treated us like royalty. They were the absolute best and I hope I tipped very well. I will be back monthly if not weekly! Almost Indescribable is the best way to describe every bite of every dish. Talk about a breath of fresh air! It's a place that feels like home because it's in our blood and it's a place like Villa Berulia that must be cherished, supported, and kept around forever. For last night alone, it will be forever in my heart. If there is one thing you could do for me, it would be to give this place as much business as you can. It's a very reasonable price and the night was priceless. I truly hope the staff sees this and feels my utter appreciation and gratitude for a wonderful evening. One of our favorite after-work restaurants to frequent, we've been here dozens of times but never had the chance to leave a Yelp review. We were greeted with smiles at the door and seated right away. This restaurant is always packed, and it's no wonder, as the service is consistently on point and amazing. The restaurant is cozy, with small tables spaced out comfortably. We started with drinks and an appetizer of Blue Point oysters on the half shell. For the main course, I had the Bistecca, a 21-day aged NY strip steak, while my husband opted for the veal Francaise. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare) and seasoned nicely. The Francaise was tender and saucy. Of course, we saved room for dessert: pistachio cake and affogato. I'm going to be honest and say I'm a bit biased with my review since I've been a customer of Villa Berulia for about 14 years. Not sure why I didn't write a review sooner but better late than never. I haven't been in a while and since I was in the City today, I figured I'd take advantage of restaurant week here. I love it here. It's so intimate and beautiful with the dim lights and candlelit tables. The original staff that I'm used to is no longer here but the current staff is quite nice and friendly. The food as always is absolutely delicious. I chose the Spring salad and Tortellini Bolognese ($30) excluding tax and gratuity. I had to have a cocktail so I had my usual, which is Vodka with Cranberry and a splash of Peach Schnapps. I sat in the back at my usual table and reminisced about times with my good friend Greg, chatting with John and the old staff. Villa Berulia isn't just a restaurant, it's like coming home to family. If you're in the Murray Hill area, please stop in for drinks and have some amazing food and I'm sure you'll leave with a smile. read more

Phenomenal. Decided on this gem based on reviews and proximity to the hotel, we were travel weary, hungry and there were so many options. This one stood out and I am so glad it did. We asked the manager at the front desk of our hotel to point us in the right direction and his face lit up. He had nothing but wonderful things to say and suggested that we mention the hotel because they notoriously treat their guests "very well." It's Saturday night, unbeknownst to us at the time, also restaurant week, what are the chances we could walk in at 715pm and be seated immediately? It happened! We were greeted immediately, handed our coats over to the check room clerk and had a table all within minutes of opening the door! May I remind you, in NYC on a Saturday evening, during restaurant week?! The place was packed, had we seen the bar first we would have been very comfortable to grab a seat there, but do not regret having a table to watch the flow of the service. These finely dressed gentleman weave in and around tables seamlessly, with smiles and friendly banter, all while managing each and every customer with efficiency. They ALL took care of the entire small but cozy restaurant, it was truly a masterpiece in service. Even the bartender came out from behind the bar to take drink orders & make recommendations when he noticed empty glasses. I took advantage of the week specials to order a delicious bottle of wine at a fantastic price point, but otherwise we ordered from the regular menu. A plate of tasty assorted breads were complimentary as were some flaky cookies at the end of the night. An additional variety of bread was offered when it was noted that we had scarfed down the first offerings while we waited. Salads and sides are ordered in addition to any entre, large and meant for sharing. We ordered a Caesar salad to split. My partner wanted anchovies, I did not. We received the salads on separate plates, one with anchovies one without. Seems simple, but it was just an extra layer. Mussels Marinara, tortellini sausage pasta and we were both too full to give any dessert a fair chance, but they looked decadent as they went by us. Do not sleep on this place, like I said, it was packed so plenty of people already know. I would travel to dine here again. The food was amazing but the service stood out! read more

Good choice of meat, poultry and seafood. Good wine selection by the glass and bottle. And complementary grappa and Limoncello. Restaurant has multiple rooms so it appears cozy but not very loud even when it's full. Prices are on the higher side $40-50 per entree but there are options under $30. Pleasantly surprised to hear it has a little bit of Croatian background which made us feel even more welcome! They have "live music Wednesday's" and a Portuguese night / Croatian night coming up soon that I plan on attending! I personally was a big fan of the mushroom risotto! The desserts were my favorites - we got Apple strudel, chocolate mousse & torta de la nonna & it had to have been the best torta de la nonna I've ever had! (& I've had PLENTY). So fresh! I went to this old school restaurant with five others around the month ago. They had a party in front (I believe a firm merger or something similar) and I've heard that a lot of spots around here choose this place for their corporate events. As this was the case, we sat in a backroom along with a few other groups but the area back there was nice. The restaurant is way bigger than it looks on the outside and the space inside is comfortable. The server was very friendly and gave good recommendations. They gave us two things at the beginning includingsome bread topped with olives, sun-dried tomatoes (similar to a bruschetta) along with a mix of breadsticks and a loaf. To drink I had the Paper Airplanes which is essentially the same thing as the official cocktail known as the Paper Plane. The drink had bourbon, Aperol, Amaro Nonino, and lemon juice and it is one of my favorite cocktails partially since Amaro Nonino might be my favorite type of amaro and therefore one of my favorite drinks in general. The drink has a bitter and sour element with a touch of sweetness and the version here was nice. The server went through a few specials and some of the people partook in them. This included several appetizers as well as several mains with one of them being a beef stew that I might have preferred over my main dish. Some others started with a salad (special avocado, some tomato based one, something else) and someone else got another appetizer which I don't remember. As my dish was $52, I decided to just go with a main dish which was the osso buco with gnocchi as my accompaniment (with the other choice being over over arborio rice) and I got the daily vegetable special as my side dish (which was $10.) The massive dish arrived with the vegetable with the osso buco on the plate and once I let them know, they very quickly replaced it with the gnocchi. They came over with some parmesan to put over the gnocchi which was nice. The braised veal shank fell off the bone and it had a nice richness and very good flavor though I would say that some of the parts weren't braised enough as there was a little bit too much chew. My only other complaint was that I would have preferred a little bit more gnocchi but the small amount that was there had a perfect texture. My side which was a mix of three vegetables (zucchini, carrots, and spinach I believe also judging by the photo) sauteed in olive oil was alright. The portion size was plenty especially for a nice place like this but the olive oil flavor wasn't strong enough so I found it slightly bland but the other people enjoyed it as the portion was big enough to share especially with the massive shank. Two other people got the buzara which is a Croatian (specifically Dalmatian) stew which is either in a red (na crveno) or white (na bijelo) sauce and they loved it. I didn't try as there was some squid in there as it was with mixed seafood. I tried the Tortellini Alla Berulia which consisted of said pasta with a bolognese sauce and some mushrooms and they were perfectly al dente and I would maybe get an appetizer and get that as my main next time. For dessert, I went with the peach sorbet stuffed into it's own fruit shell or sorbetto alla pesca di ripieno I believe. There was also the same thing with lemon sorbet as well as a flourless chocolate cake, tartufo, and something else (I think a cheesecake but I'm not sure.) The dessert was presented nicely and it was very tasty. I'm unsure if they use some brand or something but I found it tasty. I believe it was maybe $10 or something similar. The food here was good. Nothing extraordinary but then again I don't tend to find Northern Italian food to be the best. I can see why they've been in business for ages though as it was solid and the service was nice and the portions made it more worth it as well. Upper 3. read more

The suits walk through the restaurant with confidence, even pride. And it's been around over 20 years. Why, I can't imagine. The monk fish in lemon butter was so bland and tasteless that I repeatedly salted it to find some flavor. Companion had the "special" orrechiette. Some non-chef, robot-like, put pasta, sliced sausage and greens in a bowl not understanding that these must be blended to achieve a cohesion of flavors. Result: tasteless! At $17 a glass--the top priced white wine on the menu was a poor representative of the usually wonderfully citrus flavored Sauvignon Blancs from Australia. If you want Italian food, the nearby chain restaurant Serafina has nothing to apologize for. Service is merely task oriented and it is quite noisy. read more

My only gripe is with just how small the portion sizes for the restaurant week dishes were. It was literally a few bites. I have walked by this restaurant more times than I can count and finally decided to try it out. Murray Hill needs more restaurants with this one's cozy ambiance. I had initially planned to sit with my friend at the bar however the bar portion we sat at has absolutely no leg room. We decided to opt for a table. The bread and bread sticks are delicious however no olive oil was provided which I like with bread at red sauce italian spots. To be far, I didn't ask for it. We started with fried calamari and the lemon vinaigrette salad aka insalata verde. The salad was fresh with some nuts but it was just the chunks of lettuce on the plate. Overall it lacked creativity such as a fig or something to break up the monotony of the greens. It was fresh. The calamari was fresh, crispy and delicious. It was served with a tasty homemade tomato sauce. For dinner my partner had the pasta trio and I had the halibut special. The halibut was so fresh and had no fishy taste. The pasta was very good! We did not have room for dessert. I also had a glass of Pinot noir was which was fairly good. Overall I would give this spot a solid 4.0. I would like to come back again to try a few of the other options. I will def be back as I live in the neighborhood. read more

I ordered the grill calamari and baked clams casino. I was very disappointed. First I'm used to calamari in little pieces not 3 large pieces. It was very chewy and rubbery I could not enjoy. The baked clams casino has a weird taste and the bacon atop was not properly cooked. Also did not enjoy. Found this place on an app with ~25% off, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it. Turned out to be really good! When you enter this place, it feels very cozy. The lighting is dim and while it does feel ~romantic-, it mostly just feels comfortable. Everyone seems to be regulars and the servers seem to know a lot of people by name. This place was pretty lively when we went around 7PM on a Thursday, and most of the customers seemed older. Loved the vibe and the family feeling to this place. Made me wanna be a regular! We ordered a glass of wine each, a merlot and Shiraz. Both were filled to the brim, and I enjoyed the Shiraz. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried calamari. It wasn't too oily or salty and the tomato sauce that it came with was fresh and delicious. While it was fried, it didn't taste unhealthy. Thoroughly enjoyed this calamari and we finished it in like 5 minutes. For entrees, we shared a tortellini and an Osso buco. We were lucky in that the flavors of these two dishes paired really well! The osso buco was literally AMAZING - the meat fell off the bone. The bone marrow part was also good and it was just overall very well done and flavored. The gnocchi was a bit lacking, but regardless I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this dish. Tortellini was also great. Again, I enjoyed it more because of how well it went with the osso buco. The flavoring was good, not too salty, and a really great sized portion. Nothing to complain about here. At this point, we were SUPER FULL.... but for some reason, decided ordering a tiramisu was the move. It was definitely a decision I did NOT regret. The tiramisu was really large in size (which left us even fuller), but we finished the entire thing because it was GREAT!!!! Honestly, I have nothing negative to say about this place. Unfortunately, my experience was an unpleasant one. It was my birthday and we had made a reservation for the restaurant week pre-fixe menu. The appetizers came 40 minutes after we ordered it and were miniscule. It should not have taken 40 minutes for two small pieces of food. We were consistently asked if we wanted drinks, but were not given any food to supplement the drinking. Not even a bread basket that I saw other tables receive. Every table around mine was checked on, but the waiter never checked in with me. The restaurant ambiance was nice, but their customer service needs to be worked on. read more

This restaurant is one of my all time favorites in NYC. They staff and owners are so gracious and really want every guest to have an amazing experience. The food is 10/10 incredible, especially the tortellini which is a personal favorite. We hosted a private event here in the back room and it was truly the best. They took care of our every need and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We loved their homemade grappa so much that I asked for a bottle of it to gift to my mother. They packaged it up beautifully for me to give as a gift. Truly there is not a better spot in NYC than this. Highly recommend going for any meal and you will not be disappointed!!! Wish I could rate this place 10 stars. Outstanding dining experience. We arrived a little before 4pm on Wednesday evening. There was only one or two other tables at this time. We had some time to kill before a show so we intended on leisurely enjoying our meal. We were immediately offered water and bread. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine which were reasonable priced and good. We decided to split the soup, a salad,sol, and lemon meringue pie. Everything except the desert was suggested and tasted fabulous. You could tell everything was very fresh. Each dish came out with timing so that you could enjoy the previous course. They split everything for us giving us two plates which made sharing and presentation great. The Flavor of everything was incredible. We were checked on multiple times by the manager and staff. We finished up with coffee and a complimentary peach schnapps. When we left they were starting to get busy and we can see why. This is a don't miss it restaurant if you are in the city.
