We celebrated our anniversary at Kellari during Restaurant Week, and overall, it was a wonderful experience! The restaurant made us feel special from the moment we arrived by greeting us with a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary, a thoughtful gesture that really set the tone. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was phenomenal. I ordered from the Restaurant Week menu, while my husband ordered from the regular menu. To start, I had the watermelon salad, which was absolutely delicious. The balance of watermelon, lemon, and basil was incredibly refreshing and flavorful. For my entrée, I had the lamb, which was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was a little light, but a pinch of table salt was all it needed. For dessert, I chose the lemon yogurt tart. It was good, although very lemon-forward--perfect if you're a big lemon fan. My husband started with the traditional chicken soup. He had originally wanted to try the daily special, but our server recommended the chicken soup instead. Unfortunately, he immediately regretted the switch because it tasted pretty ordinary. Thankfully, his steak more than made up for it! It was cooked perfectly, seasoned beautifully, and paired with some of the best Greek potatoes we've had. Those potatoes are a must-order. The only downside was the service. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly attentive either. After visiting the Summit yesterday with my girlfriends, we worked up quite an appetite and stumbled upon Kellari. Christy was craving Greek food, and according to Yelp it was the closest option. Honestly, I was surprised to see it only has 3.5 stars because it was a solid 5-star experience in our book. We grabbed seats at the bar, and from the moment we walked in, the warm, elegant atmosphere transported me straight to Europe. The service was welcoming, attentive, and never rushed, making the entire lunch feel like a little escape from the hustle of Midtown. You really can't beat the 3-course prix fixe business lunch for around $43 (yes, you read that correctly!). The portions were perfectly sized with it being filling without leaving you overly stuffed. For our first course, we each ordered something different so we could sample a little of everything. We tried the halloumi, crisp calamari, and zucchini keftedes, and every dish was a winner. The calamari was light and crispy, the halloumi was perfectly grilled, and the zucchini fritters were packed with flavor. Before our entrées arrived, we were treated to warm bread accompanied by olives, creamy hummus, and fresh radishes, a simple but thoughtful touch that made the meal feel even more authentic. For the second course, we ordered the Kavouri Burger (chef's kiss!) and the Kotopoulo. The crab cake was juicy and incredibly flavorful, while the chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and satisfying without feeling heavy. My colleague and I may have stumbled upon a popular lunch spot. We were looking for a nicer lunch spot in midtown and this spot was recommended. So ofc we made a resy. And good thing we did! We enjoyed mastiha spritzes for our cocktails and we had the mediterranean kale salad and it was pretty flavorful. We both had the sea bass for our main (which is our go-to in any Greek restaurant) and it was good, though not the best sea bass we've had. We had the kormos skolata (chocolate salami) and the almond milk pudding and the kormos was definitely the better of the two. I had a great time here for happy hour on a Tuesday after work. It was surprisingly large inside and very crowded! I think you should definitely make a reservation for dinner. We were lucky and there were two seats open at the bar for happy hour (I believe you can only have the happy hour menu if you're seated at the bar). It was a wonderful dining experience. We had the pre theatre menu. We had the calamari and tuna tartare and both were delicious. The was calamari was not breaded but lovely grilled with light seasonings and so tender. The tuna was equally delicious but I thought it could have used a nice kick of wasabi. Hubby had the fish special and I had the grilled lamb chops -- both very tasty. The service was competent and attentive. Came in for dinner and drinks before a show on a Saturday. A tad busy. The place is beautiful. Very refreshing and not dark. Server was nothing spectacular. Did her job. Nothing above or beyond in regard to friendliness from the minute we sat down. We ordered the trio of dips with tatziki, feta and an eggplant one. All were delicious and we received more pita when needed. We then ordered the halloumi cheese appetizer or small plate. It was fine. Shuka has them beat! We then ordered the muscles. From the instant they arrived we knew they were not fresh. I took one bite. Fine. Second bite was super fishy and didn't feel right in consistency. I spit it out. All three of us agreed they were suspect. Rule of thumb w seafood: when in doubt, spit it out! I alerted the waitress, she apologized and returned the dish. By that time we were pressed for time and didn't really fancy muscles again. I advised we would still tip her based on the full price of the intended meal but that we didn't need a replacement dish. She left the side of fries and those were very good. The manager came over, did what he should do in these cases, apologized. Told me it would be stricken from the tab and brought us a dessert on the house. We assured him we understood and encouraged him to taste one. We left feeling underwhelmed and hoped they just had an off night. I did tip fully (muscles included). I paid the bill and saw a pending reversed charge on my card app. Not sure what happened, but when I got my credit card statement- the full change had been put through. Disappointed. This place was good for a business lunch and I saw quite a few professionals at lunchtime. They have a $40 pre fix menu which comes with 3 courses. We both got salmon crudo, tuna, and lemon tart yogurt with a Greek salad to share. My least favorite item was the salmon crudo. It should have been easy to cut and silky smooth but was the opposite. The tuna was great though and melted in your mouth. It came with beets and some puree. Also loved the Greek salad which felt traditional. They feature a number of Greek wines as well. I found myself at Kellari for a work dinner. The usual suspects for these events are steakhouses, so it was refreshing to see another type of cuisine pop up - bonus points for being a place I've never been to before. That being said, I was looking forward to checking this place out. Kellari serves up Greek cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. It's a very Midtown restaurant in terms of space - the dining room is large with a sizeable private room where we were seated. I liked the decor - it was stylish with a light color scheme that played into the menu offerings. As with other work dinners I've been to, there was a prix-fixe menu. We started with an assortment of dips paired with pita. This is pretty standard in most Greek restaurants - all of them had good flavor and the pita was fresh. We were also started with zucchini kefte which were essentially zucchini cakes with a tomato aioli. These were tasty - good flavor, relatively light, and not oily. For my main I had the salmon which was seasoned well and had great flavor. Service was good, and overall I had a good experience at Kellari. Many times when I go restaurants for work events I get the restaurant week treatment, but Kellari dished the goods. I wouldn't hesitate returning here for another meal. read more

I found Kallari Tavern as I was exploring locations close to our Broadway show. It was a 10 minute walk and easy to make a reservation on Open Table. For our meal, we had a variety at the table. We got a few appetizers with the dip spread with tzatziki, cava and tyroslameti. The eggplant and mashed potato option seemed to be the additional options we considered. The tzatziki and the tyrsolsameti were amazing. The pita was soft, warm and pleasant with the dips. Our friend got the theater menu and had the calamari as an appetizer. For entrees we had a variety of things at the table. I had a the Greek salad which was amazing. It has all the colors of the rainbow, blocks of feta and a wonderful dressing. One friend got the sides of potatoes and asparagus which were satisfying. We had fried calamari at the table. And the friend doing the theater menu has lamb chops. The food was incredible, flavorful and tasty. It didn't require additions. For dessert- since we had a birthday at the table we ordered pistachio ice cream which came out promptly. However, they also brought out a dish of Bakalava which was a nice surprise. It was soaked in the honey, had a lovely phyllo dough. The ice cream to go with it added a nice cooling effect. The meal was incredible. The ambiance amazing. Our server, Lefteris, who was kind and answered all questions ensured we made it out to our show in time. He brought us a night cap of a sweet wine to help us celebrate our friends birthday. We both got wine. I went with a white Greek wine I haven't had in a while. It was refreshing and just what I was looking for. We also ordered grilled calamari and a dozen oysters. Oysters were good but nothing special. They were a little big for my preference. The calamari on the other hand was delicious. If given the choice I always go with grilled and glad we did. It came with a little bit of greens and what I thought was hummus but menu says otherwise. Delicious nonetheless and would order that again.
