This is a seafood known place. But they have some meat options as well. This is a spacious restaurant with some outdoor seating as well. The bar area is always crowded from the times I have been here. It is a nice bar though. We had a great waiter who had a sense of humor and was friendly. Some of the dishes we got were lamb chops, filet and a fish dish. The drinks here were fine nothing too special. They did mess up on my drink they gave me a french martini or something rather than a french 75 which is what I ordered. But they made it right and gave me the drink I wanted. For desserts they had this chocolate layer cake that looked out of this world. I did nit try it but I had chocolate ice-cream and a decaf cappuccino they both were also very good. I recommend this spot.
Lunch today at Avrà with friends was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. The lamb chops were life-changing. The Greek salad tasted like it had just been picked straight off the vine--right there on 5th Avenue. The Kalamata olives, feta cheese, and olive oil were so good I honestly felt like I could bathe in that olive oil. We also had the tuna tartare, grilled octopus, and a perfectly cooked branzino. One of my friends--who clearly lacks both pride and manners--grabbed the fish head with his hands and cleaned it out like it was his last meal. Not exactly fine dining behavior, but memorable. The grilled dorado skewer special was also excellent. The ambiance is bright and open, and we loved our waitress--she really understood our vibe and seemed slightly amused by us, which made the experience even better. I'm currently writing this on the train home, completely full and satisfied, just hoping my wife didn't cook dinner.
We had a party of 3 for lunch at Avra in midtown, NYC. They get our highest marks for service, delicious food and a delightful ambiance. Reservations fill up quickly so get them early. Service: Our meal was made so much more enjoyable due to our waiter, Giorgio's excellent customer service. He really took care of us and was prepared with information about our dining preferences noted on our reservation. He was charming and funny and so welcoming. The manager also stopped by to chat for a few minutes and was equally wonderful. Food: We had wonderful starters of bread and dip with olives and pimento as well as crudite. All 3 of us selected from the $39 prix fixe lunch menu: lamb chops, branzino and salmon. Each meal was cooked to perfection. Ambiance: Holiday music was playing and the restaurant seemed buzzing with excitement. People were happy and enjoying their company. Downstairs has these amazing additional dining rooms both large and small for meetings/parties/events.
Wow!! This by far will be one of my all time favorite meals! Every bite was delicious. The seating outside is great for a cool beautiful people watching day. However the dining room is beautiful!! I highly recommend sharing dishes! Save room for dessert.
I went on a Saturday and overall had a nice experience, though there were definitely a few service hiccups. When we first arrived, someone came over quickly to ask about water, but since not everyone in our group was there yet, we asked to wait. A few minutes later, another server came and asked again, and we still wanted to hold off. Once everyone arrived, it was surprisingly hard to find a waiter to actually take our order, and we were left waiting for a bit until someone finally came over and we ordered the prix fixe menu. For appetizers, I got the spanakopita while others got the Greek salad. The spanakopita was on the milder side and didn't have much flavor, and there was too much phyllo dough compared to the filling. I ended up mostly picking at the feta and spinach inside. The Greek salad, on the other hand, was really good. It was fresh, light, and well-balanced with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, and feta. For my main, I ordered the chicken frites. The chicken was grilled, thin, and cooked well, which I liked. The fries were thick-cut , not my personal preference since I usually prefer thinner fries, but they were still good. It also came with a tomato topped with tzatziki, which I wish had been plated separately because I would've liked to dip my fries into the tzatziki more easily. For dessert, I got the fruit plate, which included strawberries, oranges, melon, and pineapple, though the selection seemed to vary a bit between plates. We also sat outside in one of their booths, which was really nice and made for a great atmosphere. One downside was that the bathroom plumbing wasn't working properly, so only one bathroom was available for the entire restaurant, though they were actively working on fixing it.
Fam was visiting from out of town and us Greeks like to go and enjoy a good bite from our own. So we decided to check out this location to change up from the last location we went to. I actually prefer the rockerfeller location I thought the food was better but more so the ambiance. The service in both were amazing. But the rockerfeller location is way more quiet and just beautiful being that it's two floors. So here's the run down... the spankorizo was not bad a little dry. The Horta was horrible like super gross. It was like boiled lettuce. The lamb was great the filet was great. The ceviche was good but every time I took a bite I thought I was in a sushi spot so it didn't fit the menu and the Greek salad is always great as well as the dips. Top notch Diet Coke highly recommend.

Our server even showed us the fish before we gave the thumbs up to have it cooked. - Grilled Vegetables: These were hands down the best grilled veggies I've ever had! Even non-vegetable lovers would be impressed by how delicious these are. Drinks: - Me: Prosecco - E: Prosecco - B: Irish Bailey - S: Cosmo Dessert: - Olive oil cake: We ordered it out of curiosity and it was oaky. Complementary: - Hummus and pita: very fresh and delicious. The ambiance was beautiful. If you visit, I recommend sitting toward the center of the room on the ground floor for the best experience. Our server, Lance, provided excellent service with such positive energy. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

This is the first Avra location we visited in the city, and we were immediately struck by its warm, intimate atmosphere--such a lovely contrast to the more crowded Rockefeller spot. If you're hosting out-of-town guests, the Rockefeller location might be the better choice, but for a special date night, this place is absolutely perfect. The decor is stunningly romantic, with every detail adding to its charm, making it an extremely cute and inviting daily spot. On top of that, the Mediterranean food was not only very good but also incredibly fresh, with flavors that left us wanting to come back again and again. It's clear why this location holds such a special place for locals! Our server was extremely thoughtful, too--when they saw me carrying in a bouquet of flowers, they even provided a vase to make our evening even more special. It's clear why this location holds such a special place for locals!"
The beau and I had a delightful dinner with the gals here on a Friday evening. The food is very good and the service was acceptable but not exceptional. While this place is a bit of a scene and can feel like an extension of the Hamptons, I can see why people enjoy dining here. The food is fresh and presented nicely. It's attractive inside and also a great venue for a private party.
If i give 5 stars for something-- take it seriously. Go during the prix fix menu time! It is worth it every penny. $38 for 3 courses was a brilliant deal. I tried calamari for the first time and my fried gave it a big approval. Super fresh. The swordfish is more flavorful than branzino, but regardless, both are stellar. The salad in the first course was okayish-- feta outshined everything and was fantastic. I am in love with their olive oil. Their orange cake at the end was equally stellar and the right size. Friend said the whiskey sour was done super well, and i agree for the passionfruit mocktail as well. However, don't get their coffee-- it's not worth it.
Made a day-of dinner reservation on a Saturday cause we were craving Mediterranean food and we enjoyed another Avra location by Midtown which we enjoyed but ended up liking this place even better! Service was what you'd expect at a more upscale restaurant - attentive, prompt, and friendly. For food we got the filet mignon and the swordfish as our entrees which were both great. Filet mignon was cooked exactly how I liked it and they did give me a heads up that it's just the steak so would be best to order a side which I did. Swordfish was great as expected as well. For dessert I got the olive oil cake which was also good but the greek yogurt was actually one of the best I've ever had! The vibe of the place very nice. A good mix of mid sized groups and pairs with everyone enjoying themselves. Recommended for those looking for a good mediterranean place!

Loved Avra! The interior was absolutely beautiful and the whole restaurant had such a nice atmosphere. The sushi with tuna was one of my favorites, along with the steak and the butter cake. The butter cake was SO good and definitely something I'd order again. The staff was really nice and attentive, and I also wanted to mention how kind the bathroom attendant in the women's restroom was. She was so sweet and made the experience feel even more welcoming. I didn't get a ton of pictures this time, but honestly this is definitely a must if you're in NYC. I'd absolutely come back! read more
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I brought someone visiting nyc who's never been or even heard of Avra and this was their favorite spot of the trip! We came in around 4pm on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. Good for us so we got sat immediately. For drinks we both got the Hugo spritz and it was indeed not disappointing. They then gave us their complimentary hummus which was actually delicious and so authentic. I hate when people put too much cumin in hummus but this one was exceptional. For starters we got the crab cake and the grilled octopus. The crab cake was packed with meat and the meat itself was flavorful. The octopus came sliced, was a generous portion, and was sooo tender. I'd get both again in a heartbeat. For mains we got the lamb chops, lemon potatoes, and the scallops. They knew we wanted to split everything so they plated the proteins table-side for us. Great service. The scallops come with a ton of spinach so if you're worried about ordering a vegetable that's got you covered. The scallops themselves were so flavorful and sooo tender. The lamb chops were also super flavorful. 3 chops but we only had 1 each. The lemon potatoes were also the perfect accompaniment for both entrees. Probably the star of the show. For dessert the coconut pie was also tasty, not too sweet. The one complaint I have is when packing the food away I wish they packed the roasted garlic head that accompanied the lamb chops. It would've gone great with them. Other than that I think Avra is very underrated and a sure fire way to impress anyone in the mood for great Mediterranean food! read more
A very modern Greek and Mediterranean restaurant that serves topnotch food. Interiors is large and beautifully designed. Absolutely breathtaking atmosphere. I had to settle with a bar seating due to no reservation but it was worth it. Food was outstanding with lovely presentation. Their wine list had great selection for everyone. This place is amazing. Nice atmosphere, good food and great service. Everything about this place is nice. They have fresh fish that they filet table side. I highly recommend this place for work events, family dining, anniversaries, and birthdays. I will be back. read more

Always the best Fish!! This restaurant is sooo good. The ambience is elegant, the servers are eloquent and friendly. The staff is very accommodating and the food is consistently good. It is a nice place for an upbeat dinner and you will often see large parties. The bar is generally full which gives the restaurant a lively vibe. read more

The food was awesome but the only thing is the price... we got an order of yellowtail fish and there was only about 5-8 thing pieces of fish for 50 dollars!! My shrimp was pretty good and inside the restaurant, they had a place where they show the fish they have. They do have decorations and the waiters should be nice. The deserts taste pretty good but the place can be pricy. read more

The environment is beautifully decorated. A lot of artificial flowers are used for decoration, and there's no way around it since flowers are quite expensive in the US. The service is very attentive. They changed the tablecloth when the table got dirty and refilled hot water twice. The hot water here has lemon slices in it, which is more than what other restaurants offer. The soup of the day is very similar to the dough slice soup my grandmother from Henan used to make. It's such a familiar taste. The crab leg cake is incredibly delicious, with the sweetness of crab legs combined with the aroma of cheese. The lamb chops are grilled to a perfect state of being crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. read more

Food 8/10 Very fresh fish and exceptional olive oil. Definitely get the branzino-super tender and light. The appetizers were all solid, not the most memorable, but I enjoyed them all. We got the tartare, tomato salad, Avra chips, and the three dips. I thought the Avra chips were better than the ones at Milos, and the yogurt dip was also very fresh. But I think my biggest qualm with the food here is the fact that their pita came in the form of chips and not bread. I dislike chips so I think that honestly took away 2 points. If there was bread, I would've been able to soak up the olive oil even better. Atmosphere 9/10 We got a booth that fit nine people, very cute and kind of separate from the rest of the dining room, so it felt very intimate and perfect for a birthday celebration. Service 9/10 Nothing to complain about, provided us with everything and showed us the fish before they cooked it, so we knew how big the Branzino was :D read more
Delicious!!! I would 100% eat here again. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. We did not feel rushed at all. The ambience of the restaurant felt trendy, and relaxing with the white table cloths and the beautiful decor. The grilled calamari was flavorful, the fish was fresh with no fishy taste and the baklava was delicious! The coffee was delicious too! We lucked out when we found out they have a prefixed menu too! Wonderful choices on this menu too. The bill was a little over $100. I will most definitely recommend this place and will most definitely be back! Enjoy!! read more

First things first, WOW- the grilled jumbo shrimp were the best shrimp I've ever eaten. Perfect texture, flavor, WOW. Everything I ordered was amazing, but that was the true stand out for me. Also, the grilled octopus was delectable. The taste, the consistency, WOW. If I could knock off half a star I would simply because the waiter wasn't the friendliest. I was expecting friendlier service with great food recommendations for the price tag of this restaurant. Lovely decor, upscale restaurant. The downstairs area is gorgeous. It has a wine cellar and a whole separate dining room! I cannot wait to return to this restaurant! read more

Had another excellent experience at AVRA Madison. Once again the service and management were as professional as they come. They definitely recognize their regulars and were nice enough to send some complimentary desserts. The food was excellent as usual. The carabineros (scarlet prawns) are pricey but so sweet and delicious. The snake river farms wagyu eye of ribeye was cooked to perfection at medium and well seasoned, though the lamb chops will continue to be my go to meat dish. read more

Spectacular! Avra Madison is more than a restaurant; it's an experience. With a "big scene" ambiance that's both exciting and sophisticated, Avra serves up some of the freshest seafood and mixed-Mediterranean cuisine anywhere. Whether you choose to be seated outside in the amazingly designed and furnished Covid-era sidewalk Pavillion or inside at the bar, main or lower levels, it's all simply breathtaking, shimmering in gold and warm wood. We began our feast with the most amazing generously poured Old Fashioneds, and martinis. Moving into dinner, we started with Portuguese grilled sardines, saganaki and tuna tartare followed by real Greek salad, roasted beet salad and chicken frites, all consumed with several glasses of dry red wines. Service is of equivalent excellence at Avra; our waiter was a pro. Avra will transport you to the Greek isles, old Athens, or the Cypriot hills in an otherworldly experience here in the heart of Manhattan. It belongs on everyone's bucket list. read more
