Sorry it's taken so long to write and thank you for our wonderful Midwest Rock Tops counter tops. We had them installed about a year ago and love it! The counter still looks as great as the day it was installed it. We were trying to do an economical remodel of our smallish kitchen and our counter top space was a little longer than the standard one-piece granite slab. We really didn't want a seam and then we stumbled upon Midwest Rock Tops. Brian was able to find a slab long enough which worked perfectly. When he came out to measure our kitchen he suggested used some pieces to make a matching top to a new half wall entering the kitchen and a shelf below the window which we would have never thought about. It looks great and we get lots of compliments! Thank you Brian and all of your employees!

Regardless, I've sure spent a lot of time here lately, gathering supplies for various home improvement projects. You can pick up your supplies or have them delivered (for a fee). Weekends get busy so it's bests to plan ahead and get your order in early so you can get the delivery time you want! Also, they're not open Sundays so be sure to get what you need for the weekend on Friday/Saturday or you're going to be twiddling your thumbs on Sunday when you run out of something. The delivery trucks can usually hold two different items (i.e., dirt and mulch, gravel and sand) and only a certain amount of weight of each. Again, planning ahead can help you figure out how to be as efficient as possible. You also can pick up your gravel (or whatever you need) if you have a truck, be prepared to drive yourself onto the scale get weighed before and after so they know how much to charge you after a backhoe fills your truck up! We filled our raised bed garden with their 50/50 blend (dirt & compost) and our tomato plants are currently about 5ft high and look like a tomato forest. I'm not sure what's in that stuff but it sure seems to be working! The customer service here is pretty matter of fact, which I appreciate. We were overcharged for one item (cashier seemed to have incorrectly entered our scale weight and we didn't realize it until we got home). When I called later they didn't give me any problem at all, just worked with me to quickly figure out the actual amount of gravel we'd gotten and promptly issued a refund. Overall, the prices seem fair and there are plenty of choices no matter what your project! (landscape, stone, masonry, granite, etc.)

That leads me to the bad: we went to their yard and found the rock we wanted. We placed an order for the rock that was in that specific bin. They delivered us the wrong rock, apparently because their drivers put the rock we liked in the wrong bin. So they gave us a discount (not free) on a delivery of the right stuff. The delivery driver proceeded to dump the right stuff ON TOP of the wrong stuff while we weren't home. So we had the pleasure of both separating the right grave from the wrong gravel, and had to find a use for the wrong stuff that we partially paid for. Good rock. Poor handling of logistics. Will probably come here as a last resort in the future unfortunately.

Unfortunately, my old house has knob and tube and for any new fixtures etc we've had to call people out since it's against code (and just plain unsafe) to mess with knob and tube. Knob and tube doesn't work like newer wiring and there's no rhyme or reason why it goes where it does. THAT would be why the guy was banging on Sally's walls. He was trying to figure out the run pattern and where the wiring actually was. They are the only electrician I have used and they have also been great with my clients I recommended them too (I'm a realtor and know many tradespeople). As with anything on here, ymmv, but I don't think it's fair to hit a small family-owned business (at least two generations, maybe three) for something just because you don't understand the specifics of what they are doing. They treat their people well, do great work, and I'm having them back to my house in a few days to give me a quote for removing all of the knob and tube. Isn't that what's supposed to matter? How they actually are doing their job? It's also a Union shop which is important to me, although I've found their prices to be closer to the non-union shops in town. I endorse them heartily, and without reservation.

At the initial install everything was great and we loved the final product. Not even two years…read morelater, the Blanco sink chipped at the bottom. When I went in, an older unpleasant gentleman that I spoke with said "what are you using a chainsaw". They said I would have to contact Blanco, which I did. Blanco said we should have been advised to use a metal grate to protect the finish on the sink. We were never told this. Blanco was very easy to deal with and they made it right by replacing the sink for free. However, Granite Shop was quite the opposite. They would not come to do this unless they had a job in the area, which took months. They also charged us for a reinstall in addition to us needing to get a plumber, again. They then damaged our newly refinished wood floors and accused us of lying about it, even though it was on our security cameras that nothing was placed on the floor when they were here. In fact, they removed our throw rug at the sink! I highly recommend them if you like a company that doesn't stand by the product they sell and accuse their customers of lying even with proof.
