Been coming here 25 years. It's one of the places I feel comfortable and enjoy the atmosphere. They have bailed me out of jams numerous times. We've bought mowers, blowers, barbecues etc. because it's easier and staff are so helpful. Prices and the rewards club are at par with the big box stores. If you peruse the aisles, you'd be amazed how many items they have that you wouldn't think they would have. read more

I recently had the worst experience talking with Ace corporate customer service, where they refused to help even after admitting they were wrong. They even hung up on me. This is my neighborhood hardware store, and I stop in about twice a month for maintenance items like dog treats, mulch, and softener salt. North Side Ace is also great for seasonal items, including annuals, extension cords, and Christmas lights. But it's not just for small purchases. In the past few years, I have bought some big-ticket items here, like a gas grill, snow blower, and lawn mower. The prices are comparable to big box stores, but the difference is that everything comes assembled and delivered to my door. Plus, I recently had wonderful results from their knife sharpening service. North Side Ace truly offers everything a person could want from a hardware store. You don't have to be from the neighborhood to shop there, but they will make you feel like an old friend. We are lucky to have them. read more

Updating my review to three stars from previous five. I feel like the quality of advice I am getting here has decreased. I'm a homeowner and I like to handle small jobs on my own when it makes sense, and I used to get great info from the team here. Lately, it hasn't been so great. They are friendly and helpful, but I don't feel like I will get good guidance on products - I need to come in knowing exactly what I need for the job beforehand. This store is still an asset to the north side, it's still a great place to buy hardware, and they'll get a lot of my business, I just have to reframe my expectations. read more

Like I wrote about the Middleton location, this store is fantastic because they employ great people. Having a rental department is also great. This location is among the several that I visit sometimes daily when I'm working in the area, and more often than not, I can find hardware that I'd likely never get at HD or Maynards. read more

The worst I can say is that sometimes I've had to wait in line for a key which takes a while as is or at the register in which case they call for help. There was also one instance when the paint guy (kid) really messed up and took about 40 minutes and still couldn't get it right. I had to find a better match with samples than he could come up with. And they still get a four for willingness to help and friendliness and little things I find there I may not find in a bigger store like the perfect size travel dog dish, two of the best dog toys I've gotten and of course Grapeheads candy. Yesterday's visit was great, friendly and helpful as usual and they were open until 5 on a Sunday. Great place, so happy it's close by. read more

The staff at this store continuously goes above and beyond. They make it feel like I'm living in a city of 20,000 instead of 200,000. Today a gentleman changed the spark plug, air filter, drained old gas and put in new gas, and above the cost of the filter and new oil, he only charged me $2.00 for his time. He then took me outside and showed me some tips on easier ways to start my mower and to keep it working better in the future. Talk about service! I'll be brining my snow blower in there this fall for sure. read more

This is a very good neighborhood hardware store. It has a large variety of products, the staff is warm and helpful, and it's clean and fairly easy to find what you're looking for. I went in looking for tools for some kitchen remodeling projects, and when they didn't have a couple things I was looking for, they told me other stores that I could find them at, whether they were True Value stores or not. Having worked in retail, that was a comfort. They have the customer's best interest in hand. I will definitely stay a customer here. read more

Excellent hardware store on the north side. It's quite big so it's very likely they'll have what you need. Staff are usually quite helpful and easy to find. Prices are decent, I've never felt like things are dramatically different from the big-box stores. They actually set up a hoop house/ greenhouse in the parking lot in the spring so they are able to stock a number of plants. I felt like there really was a decent selection this year! Not as much as a full nursery, obviously, but a fair amount of plans and at reasonable prices. No need to head to a big-box store by the mall when this place is so close! read more

Great store with extremely helpful, nice and knowledgeable people working there. When most stores today have given up on trying to provide service these people go out of their way to help. Prices are competitive to any of the big box stores and you don't need to walk a mile to get what you need...in and out in minutes. If they don't have it they know where you can get it and will tell you. This is always the first place I think of going for any home repair, paint or planting. read more

North Side True Value has the friendliest and most helpful staff of any store I shop at. Tell them what you want, and someone will take you to the spot in the store where it's found. If it's a heavy or bulky item, they will carry it to your vehicle. They have a huge selection of products. By all odds, it's my favorite store for shopping. read more
