Prices are great too -- often better than the big-box stores. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and it's clear they care about their customers. It has that old-school, neighborhood hardware store feel that's getting hard to find these days. The only thing to keep in mind is their hours -- it's a small operation, so sometimes they close early or aren't open when you expect. But don't let that stop you -- this place is absolutely worth planning your visit around. A true local gem and the kind of place that reminds you why shopping small matters!

They've let me borrow a pipe cutter and given me helpful advice on what type of saw blade to use to cut a pipe, and tips to brace the pipe so as not to cause further damage....YouTube is great but a dialogue with a teacher who's expert in the field and old houses is priceless. The whole project to replace my leaking drain pipe, starting with advice-seeking at Howe, to grabbing the right sawzall blade at Ace to cut through the pipe above the trap, took about 2 hours of casual effort including travel time and cost about $21 in parts from Howe and a few bucks for the blade at Ace.
