Great service - I had a mixup on the paint order and the manager handled it really well.

Lily at Sherwin-Williams absolutely saved me!…read more My boss and I were cleaning out an old mailroom and found the paint cans for our office suite. We thought this was great, as the wall next to my desk was badly scuffed and had holes that needed spackling. I was advised to fill the holes and touch up the paint after buffing out all the scuff marks in the next few weeks. No big deal. I moved house last year and did all sorts of painting and this would be a tiny project. Well, the day came and I washed and spackled everything without issue, but the paint can had rusted shut and it took forever to pry open. The paint had also separated, leaving several inches of a brown slurry on top of the light blue paint. I quickly Googled this and the consensus seemed to be that it was fine if thoroughly stirred and blended. I stirred and stirred until everything was a light gray-blue and painted over the spackled holes. But it went on so much lighter than the rest of the wall. I let it dry, hoping that would help. My stomach sank. It dried just as light as it went on. The chemical composition of the paint must've changed due to the rust over the years. My boss was going to return to a wall that looked worse than before and it was because I didn't think to test patch it! I was worried that I would have to paint the whole wall that extended into the waiting area if I couldn't find paint to match. I razorbladed a paint chip from the wall to be spackled later and rushed to Sherwin-Williams before it closed with the paint chip and the original paint can. I told Lily the whole story in a panic. She was super comforting and professional. We determined it would be best to match the paint chip. It only took her a few minutes to mix it up. I also bought a few touch-up supplies that made the job way easier. I've included a Before and After photo, although the paint is still drying in spots in the After photo. It's a beautiful match. And I still have a job. Thank you, Lily!!

When it comes to staining...well let's say I am the clueless wonder. Their customer service is excellent....both super friendly and knowlegeable. Bring in a sample of what you want matched. Bring in a sample piece for them to use to make the match and they will match it dead nuts on. I never tried oil based stains as I thought they were so much harder to work with. WRONG!! OMG...their stains are virtually foolproof. Not even kidding when I say they are pretty much idiot proof. They go on so smooth it's like magic. Prices are super reasonable. You pay no more there than you would at a bigger box store and on many items like good brushes they're cheaper. I can not say enough good about this store and its employees. I would recommend them hands down to anyplace else. My days of water based stain and poly and being pissed and frustrated are over. Oil based and custom mixed colors all the way now thanks to Hallman-Lindsay.

Best prices on painting accessories in Janesville, hands down. There's almost always specials on…read morePurdy and Wooster brushes. Only place in Janesville I know of that has Tung Oil (not "tung oil *finish*" - which is tung oil and poly). Their house brand rags are the best I've ever used - if you do a lot of wiping, buy your rags here. Their bags of rags are almost entirely made of the rags you pick through other bags to find when you want a decent one for your project. The sell Jen brand foam brushes for what you'd pay on Amazon. (Jen is probably tied for first place for best foam brushes. The ones at the box stores are essentially unusable.) The only negative-in-a-totally-selfish-way thing I have to say about them is they carry every paint thinner in existence from denatured alcohol to naptha to the most uncommon ones, but they don't carry odorless mineral spirits. Which is understandable because most pros prefer naptha for application because it dries faster and paint thinner for cleaning because it cuts better but I'm a sensitive fucking snowflake and need my thinner's stink removed. Their paints are as good as anyone else's top tier, with competitive prices, but if you're not a contractor it's the hidden costs of painting that really hit you and their prices on those are far lower than the competition for either the same or a better product (drop cloths, painter's pal liners, brushes, foam brushes, sandpaper, etc). Working with wood, I use a lot of oils, poly, spar, rags, foam brushes, and sandpaper. I know the prices on Amazon and at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Sherwin-Williams, and Farm & Fleet for all of them. H-L is the place to go. Also their staff is ridiculously helpful if you need it. And they carry Cabot wood stain and General Finishes milk paint - both of which are top end for what they do. 5/5 all day.
