I am so lucky I just discovered this Jung Garden Center- have been working in Madison for 12 weeks as a traveling healthcare worker- as I would have tithed my entire salary to them and gone broke each week...although would have been over the moon with all the plants, shrubs, and fruit trees I could ever want. The health of the plants appears to be fantastic. I just bought 3 colorful and cheery items today, two shrubs and one small tree, and I plan to head back for 3 cherry trees before I leave town next week. I can only fit 3 trees in my car, otherwise, I would have bought a dozen fruit trees. There are so many choices of fruit trees and they all look so healthy and hearty, ready to be planted! The staff -both outside in the garden center- and inside in the check-out area- were so kind and helpful, giving me information about the best time to plant and if I need to buy two trees versus one due to the pollination issue. Such a great team here! I can't wait to come back, but I have to set a strict budget or I could spend thousands here. Prices are lower than in Chicago, by about 20%, for trees and shrubs. And the selection is immense. Each area was so well-stocked. And the compost, moss, mulch, and soil options were fab, too, and about what I'd pay in Chicago. Organic options, too. read more

While the location is convenient to where I live, I'm never thrilled with my experiences here. They rarely seem to have enough staff in the spring, so the staff will grudgingly provide assistance if they have time. The prices are on the high side and the quality of the bedding plants and perennials varies widely, so closely inspect any prospective purchases. Even though it's a longer drive, I prefer the broader selection of plants at the Flower Factory south of Stoughton. read more

Jung's is the best plant store in the madison area!!! Each location is great. The north side location is pretty much next to my house so selfishly my favorite. They have the best variety of all indoor and outdoor plants. We planted bare root raspberries and strawberries last year and they have exploded this year! Nothing that we have bought has died. The staff is always super helpful and willing to help and give advice. Also very dog friendly! read more

Like most other reviewers say this is a store that doesn't seem to get it. The chemical smell that fouls the air, being out of the thing you need, sickly plants and employees that ignore you. The worst for me today was waiting in line to buy one item for ten minutes. The person in the front was encouraged to get the reward card so that held the whole line up. I usually just set my item down and leave. So do others. Today I stuck it out. Sure the lady was pleasant once I got there but with no sense of urgency. When you go to Klein's flower store there are two people at the register, one who organizes and bags your stuff and one who does the register. They are fast even with lots of items. No stupid Jung dollars either, a dumb idea. Jungs used to be the best years ago but are no longer. The only good thing is that there is easy parking and it's a convenient location. read more

The people, prices and selection are really appreciated especially since I'm a novice when it comes to gardening and outdoor plantings. On multiple occasions I have felt that the people here are helpful and honest. You feel like they genuinely love their jobs and care about customers. The customer service is the absolute worst retail experience I have ever had. The issues is that I have been gardening for a long time and have ordered from this Company many times over the years. Plants were not delivered requested on my order, dead when they came, and when I contacted customer service they basically said too bad.... and wanted to explain about gardening to me. I have been gardening for over 40 years. I don't need help with gardening, Jung needs help with their customer relations. I contacted two people at the Company and neither were willing to do anything, no credit, no replacement, no refund, not able to out me through to an owner or an officer, nothing. I ordered from 2 other companies this year too, and no issues there. Not sure what has happened at Jung, but will not order from them again, ever. read more

Great selection, helpful, but not plentiful, staff. Kitchey stuff, too. The guy behind the counter has a great sense of humor. If you are easily offended, I recommend getting over yourself so you can enjoy connecting with people, instead of looking for offense so you can complain about it. read more

I have a like/dislike relationship with Jung. (Love/hate is a bit too strong.) The upsides: Location, location, location. It's right on the way to the Troy Gardens plot we grow our veggies in. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I can usually find what I need there. The downsides: The hours are not convenient at all. The management guy/proprietor is grouchy, rude and sarcastic. My daughter and I stopped in looking for tomato seeds earlier this spring. There were none on the shelf, so we asked if they had any. Grouchy old man response: "Do you see any? No? Well, that probably means we don't have any!" (The "stupid" was heavily implied.) Wow. Everything is overpriced. There is a strong, pervasive chemical smell in the place. As an organic gardener, I'm not impressed. So, go if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you. ;-) read more

The people who work here do their best to be helpful. They'll do what they can, or find someone else who knows more. They'll give you what information they have, and not try to BS you if they don't know anything. Staff changes often, but my experience with everyone has always been very good. In a garden center, it's really important to get the information you need before taking your plants home. Another thing I love about Jung's is their seed selection. The bare-root nursery is great, too. In general, their prices are reasonable. Some problems: - The indoor part of the store smells strongly of chemicals. I need a shower after visiting. - I often see plants for sale that aren't in good condition (leggy seedlings, houseplants with dead leaves, etc.) - There always seems to be new staff who don't know what they're doing (not the newbies' fault, and I'm giving them props for trying, but best customer service requires retaining staff). - You really need to call ahead if you're looking for something specific, since they don't get things in much before it's time to plant. -And the whole Jung Dollar thing -- meh, it's only good a few weeks of the year, and more trouble than it's worth. -No bike parking. read more

This place is very nice and convenient because it's close by. I just wish staff was more friendly. We weren't greeted at all. Mainly felt like we were in everyone's way. Maybe we came in at the wrong time. It was nice and hot out. Was a good day for ice cream and to stop by and see what deals they had on plants. They had a few plants inside that I was really interested in. But I couldn't find anyone to ask about prices and no prices were listed on the items we were interested in. I then thought they just weren't for sale... maybe just for display? Anyway, honestly... that was the first and last time I've been there. I wish I had a better experience. I used to go to Johannsen's all of the time and since they closed, I just haven't found a new place to go to. It's hard to replace such a nice and friendly business like that. We (my sweet wife and I) popped in for a quick visit based on our neighbors recommendation. The place seems decent. We didn't have much time to shop around. Purchased some grass seed, a pair of Atlas gloves, and some small house plants for a fairy garden. The store is reminiscent of Iowa based Earl May stores only feels rather drab and dated. We lived in Overland Park for a year. There is Family Tree which is a gold standard. Because of its excellence, Jung comes off as a yawner. read more

My review covers experiences from the last couple of years at the North Port store and my rating is based on their customer service. Last year I happened to mispronounce the name of a perennial I asked about and the woman who was 'helping' me asked if I didn't mean (correctly pronounced) said perennial. Just Snotty. If I had ever done that to one of my students, I would have been fired. This spring I was looking for a particular type of tree, and waited for quite some time to talk to another woman employee to finish with someone else. I was the only other person there. When she walked by me (!?) I asked if she could help me and and she looked at some half dead trees with me saying that they had more on that day's delivery. She suggested I come back or call later that day. I did. Nothing had come in. I called two days later. No one knew if they had come in. I stopped in two days later and was told there had been a shipment but they were all sold. WHAT? I told the man who was there about my having called and my frustration. He said they should get more in the next week and took down my name and number, telling me they would notify me, and writing my contact info on a plastic tree label. You see where this goes, right? Nowhere. There is enough rudeness in the world these days. I don't need to stop by and get more. read more
