Then it all fell apart -- weeding cost $75 per person hour, and weeds were left everywhere. When we called about it, they came to look and said all the weeds must have grown back in the time it took them to get out to see it. Then our fall cleanup -- clocking in at $2400 -- left leaves everywhere and plants untrimmed. When we asked for them to do the job properly, they came out, said it was too windy and that must have blown the neighbors leaves into our yard, declined to do more, declined to acknowledge they could have done better, and knocked some money off the bill. So it only cost us $1600 to do a job we could have done ourselves in a couple of hours. Don't waste your money here -- you'll waste a lot of it.

The planning and installation went well even though it was a rainy season and the installation got delayed until November 2019. This spring after waiting all winter, I was eager to install some plants as the rock work looked great. One thing I didn't anticipate is that previous to their work I had a layer of black plastic down to kill weeds (plastic had been in place at least 20 months). Even though there were some holes in the plastic the soil was now microbe and invertebrate poor because of the solarization. I reached out to Avant to consult and Becky has been very responsive and helpful in working with me with plans to amend the soil. So even after Avant's project was complete they continue to be supportive and responsive in making sure their customer is satisfied and the garden is healthy. Thanks AVANT!

I picked up two indoor plants and ceramic rainbow pots-they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. I'll definitely return! The checker said this is a third-generation shop! That's awesome. Other than the apple cannon and food/drinks or items in the store-everything we did was included in the price of admission which was really convenient and appreciated. The activities were easy to navigate, restrooms were clean, and there was plenty of seating throughout the farm. I am giving two stars because the flowers were fresh, but the arrangement was absolutely NOT not filled to value - and CLEARLY, they didn't think we'd any better. We're in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and they had time to write a review but not respond to any of the entreaties from the business to make things better? That's just someone who was angry at something else and took it out on this business by leaving that nasty review. I hadn't initially come to this page to write a review but I am so incensed that one person's pettiness would so hurt the ratings of this small family run business that I felt I had no choice but to respond. I first encountered Candle Cocoon (and it's sister business Karner Blue) when the owner had her first shop on Old University Ave. I was given a candle as a gift and loved it so much that I've been a customer since - over 20 years. As a former Franklin/Randall PTO Board member, we knew we just had to ask and Lyschel (the owner) would be up for anything to support the school (or the neighborhood) including donation of materials, demonstrations or even sales benefitting the school. My son still treasures his "wax hand" from a booth they had at our neighborhood 4th of July party when he was 4 (he's now 10). Not only did Lyschel and her staff help many (MANY) small children make candles and dip their hands in wax, but they also did face painting. While I miss being able to shop in store when they were on Monroe St, I understand why their business model has had to shift during the pandemic - with candles in the same diy category as bread from scratch and other handicrafts. With an immunocompromised person business adjacent, of course they would move away from in person shopping. I also understand the frustration of stopping by and not being able to get something, but really? There's no room for grace? A (hard to find and in short supply) hard working employee was short on the phone one time so they decided to trash a business they obviously aren't a regular customer of - that's ridiculous. In summary, if the one star reviewer had actually shopped there before they would've known they weren't speaking to the owner. That employee may no longer even work there - but to besmirch the reputation of an entire business out of spite? That's the kind of review that shouldn't be allowed on yelp. Shop with Candle Cocoon - there's a reason they're so busy. You won't be disappointed.
